Kagome breathed uneasily as she stared pleadingly at Sesshomaru. She couldn’t have begged him if she tried. She needed him to help her. She knew it would be fruitless on her own. She felt tears welling up in her eyes as she saw his decision.

He shook his head at her slowly and she looked away from him, breaking eye contact for the first time.

“Kagome,” He began, “please try to understand. It’s not that I don’t care for my brother, or you. It’s just that, there’s still the appeal to think about.”

“Oh right, the appeal. Where they say ‘this is why he should die buh bye.’” She sat down on the couch and wiped a tear from her cheek.

“Please. Just wait to see what happens before you jump to conclusions.” Sesshomaru sat down next to Kagome, rubbing her back like he did to Rin when she was upset.

“Fine.” She sobbed. “But then, I’m taking matters into my own hands.”

Sesshomaru didn’t say anything. He neither condoned, nor accepted this statement.

The appeal was to be held a week before the execution. Kagome continued her self-destructive pattern. She barely ate, barely slept; she hardly paid attention in classes. She felt like a zombie. Worse than a Zombie. At least they couldn’t feel. She could feel nothing but aggravation and pain.

Kagome jumped as the phone rang. She looked at the ID and it read ‘Brooks County Sheriffs Department’. She smiled, but felt confusion. Inuyasha wouldn’t call until four. It was only three. She shrugged her shoulders and answered.

“Hello.” She said.

“You have a collect call from ‘Kouga’. An inmate at the Brooks County Correctional Facility. The cost for this call is one dollar and forty nine cents to connect and an additional nine cents a minute. Will you accept the call?” Kagome’s mouth hung open. How dare Kouga call her!

“Yes.” She said angrily.

“Thank you, go ahead with your call.”

“Kagome?” Kouga asked.

“Why the fuck are you calling me?!” Kagome screamed.

“I can get Inuyasha out of this.” Kagome calmed down. Kouga smirked on the other end.

“How?” She asked.

“Simple. Say you’ll be mine.” Kouga said contemptuously. “Say you’ll be mine and I’ll drop the charges. I’m getting out in a few months. Just say the word, and he’s free.”

Kagome wanted to cry. What choice did she have? Accept Kouga’s offer and get Inuyasha to be free, or refuse Kouga’s offer and allow Inuyasha to die. And if she did manage to break him out, what then? What would happen to him? To her?

“What do you mean, ‘be yours’?”

“I mean be mine. I want you to be there every night when I come home. I want to be able to fuck you whenever I want. You’ll be my woman.”

Kagome bit her lip to keep from screaming the agony she felt.

“Do you promise you won’t hurt him once your both free?” She asked.

“All right. I’ll give you that. As long as he doesn’t hurt me.” Kagome nodded to herself.

“Fine.” She hated to beg to Kouga, but she was desperate. “Fine, I’ll do it. Just get him out.”

“Done.” Kouga smirked on the other end. “I’ll see you in a few months love kitten.” Kagome groaned mentally. “And I’ll call you about five each night, so be by the phone or I’ll revoke my withdrawal.”

“Fine.”

“Bye sweet pea.”

“Good bye.” Kagome said coldly. She hung up before he could say anything.

She threw the phone across the room, feeling quite satisfied at the cracking sound and the smash of the battery to the floor. Then she got pissed at her self as she ran to put it back together. Inuyasha would be calling in forty-five minutes.

Two days later Kagome stood in the waiting room of the Correctional Facility. She was so happy to be there, taking Inuyasha home. However, Kouga had warned her not to hug him when he came out. He would be watching her, he warned. She believed him too. And she didn’t tell Inuyasha how she had gotten him out.

He called her and said “I’m free! You can come get me! They’re letting me go!” Kagome tried to act happy, but she couldn’t when she was still so miserable.

Then again, she would do anything to save Inuyasha. It was her turn to be selfless.

Inuyasha came out of the corridor, smiling toothily. Kagome wanted to hug him, cry to him, tell him she loved him. But she couldn’t. She smiled and said “Ready to go?”

He nodded, more than confused.

Kagome remained calm the entire way to the car, and on the way back to her apartment. She parked her car out front and got out of the car. Only when Inuyasha got out and she pushed the button on her keys (the lights flashing to signal it was locked properly) did she smiled. She didn’t care what she had to do for Kouga. Inuyasha was free.

“I’m so happy!” She screamed as she ran at Inuyasha.

He hugged her back, caught much off guard by her sudden enthusiasm. “I was so scared! I’m so happy you’re okay!”

“I have to admit Kags I was a little nervous myself there.” He confided, inhaling the strawberry scent of her shampoo. “I don’t know what I would have done if I had left you.”

“I don’t know what I’d do without you.” Kagome whispered back. “You smell like prison.” She laughed, pulling away.

“Yeah, well I wasn’t stayin’ at the Hilton bitch.” He smirked.

“Come on. You’re staying with me tonight. I don’t want to be alone anymore.” She looped her arm with his and they walked up to her apartment.

“Want to order carry out and watch a movie?” Inuyasha asked as Kagome opened her door.

“That sounds perfect.” She said. “Only, let’s make it Pizza Delivery and let’s get pay per view. I’m changing into PJ’s and not leaving for the rest of the night.”

“Deal.”

Kagome had only a few months left to share with Inuyasha, before her life was ruled by Kouga. She didn’t know when she’d get around to telling Inuyasha what she had to do to save him. But it wasn’t important right now. The only thing that was important was that Inuyasha was safe, and back in her life.
