Kagome opened her eyes, the light from the sun was glaring off the white walls and she thought she might go blind from it. Blinking a few times and allowing her eyes to adjust she looked around the room. She was in the hospital. She thought about what had happened and felt nothing but confusion. How did we get out? Where’s Inuyasha? How long have I been out?

“Morning Ms. Higarashi,” a doctor came into the room, “Glad to see you’re awake.” He walked over to her IV and checked out her vital signs. “You seem perfectly fine.” He smiled.

“Why-“ Kagome began but wasn’t sure what to ask first. “Where?”

“I understand you must be confused Ms. Higarashi. Let me explain some things that I know.” The doctor gave a kind smile before listing off what he knew. “It seems to me you were in a nasty car accident. The boy who rescued you is in recovery. You had a nasty bump on the head, probably from hitting the door when the second vehicle collided with yours. You’ve been here for only a day and you will recover wonderfully with no long term damage at all, though you may experience a headache for the next few hours.” He continued smiling as he checked his watch. “Anything else I can explain for you?”

“Um, could you tell me where Inuyasha is?” Kagome asked, wanting to see him immediately.

“Ah yes, the hero is in room 207. Shall I have a nurse take you there?”

“No thank you, I’ll find it.” Kagome smiled and stood up from the bed

“Here, allow me to remove this obnoxious IV.” The doctor took out the IV and put a band-aid over the hole left by the needle.

“Thank you.” Kagome smiled and looked around the room. “Where are my clothes?” she asked, not seeing them in plain sight.

“Well they were pretty bloodied up, so we disposed of them.” The admitted, “But here,” he went to the wardrobe in the corner of the room, “State of the art scrubs.” He smiled and Kagome took the clothing.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. I’ll leave you to get about your business then, and I’ll notify your family that you are awake.”

“Thank you.” When the door was closed Kagome threw on the scrubs and walked out the door. She went to the elevator and waited for it to come down.

“Kagome!” Kagome turned to see her mother.

“Hi mom.” She smiled as her mother hugged her gently, but tightly.

“I was so scared. What happened? The doctor wouldn’t tell us anything. Are you okay? Is Inuyasha all right?”

“I don’t know mom, I’m going up to see him. I don’t even know what happened.” Kagome tried to remember but most of the night was a blur.

“Well I am so glad you are okay.”

“Me too.” Kagome hugged her mother again as the elevator ‘dinged’ open. Kagome stepped inside, her mother close behind her.

“I made Souta stay home, I didn’t want him around a hospital if I could avoid it.”

“Understandable.” Kagome sighed, quite relieved everything had worked out okay.

Inuyasha opened his eyes. He could smell the gas getting stronger. He saw Kagome resting her head on his shoulder. He couldn’t let her die… he wouldn’t let her die. He looked around, as though searching for a miracle. He didn’t find one. He grit his teeth as he lifted his arms, tucking them between his legs and the steering column. He used every bit of strength he had to lift the dash off of him. He felt his broken legs throb as circulation returned to them. He sucked in a deep breath as he felt the pain, he hated being half human. He elbowed the window, breaking the glass, he figured he was in enough pain already a little more wouldn’t kill him. He chuckled to himself, actually it might. He thought. He crawled out of the car, dragging Kagome with him. He would have preferred a more gallant way of getting her out of the car too, but he didn’t have many options. He dragged them as far away from the car as he could before his muscles gave up on him. Sighing he looked out at the car, waiting for the ambulance to come.

Kouga kicked his car, stumbling as he put his foot back down. He looked over and saw Inuyasha and Kagome, feeling rage at Inuyasha for ruining his car he charged toward them. Inuyasha saw a spark ignite from Kagome’s car and realized how close Kouga was to the car. But as he saw Kouga, another shape came into view.

“Sesshomaru watch out!” He screamed it out of instinct, knowing full well his brother was smart enough to steer clear of a combustible vehicle. Kouga however became confused and he stopped, soon the car blew up. Inuyasha looked away, he couldn’t watch as the flames rouse higher.

He heard an unidentifiable noise that could only be Kouga trying to speak. He looked and saw the charred wolf demon crawling away from the ruins. Inuyasha felt remorse; even after all that had happened he felt bad for the wolf demon. The sound of sirens caused Inuyasha to open his eyes again.

“It’s okay Inuyasha.” Sesshomaru said soothingly, almost kindly. “The ambulance has arrived.” He stated. And everything was going to be okay. Inuyasha closed his eyes one last time.

Kagome looked at room 207 and knocked softly. She heard footsteps and the door opened. Sesshomaru was standing there, “I was wondering when you were going to come up.” He allowed Kagome and Ms. Higarashi inside. “Inuyasha will be happy to see you, when he wakes up that is.” Sesshomaru allowed Kagome to sit down in the chair beside Inuyasha’s bed.

“I still don’t know what happened.” Kagome said, hoping Sesshomaru would have answers.

“I’m not positive myself.” He admitted. “I arrived as your car blew up.”

“How did we get out?” She asked.

“Inuyasha must have gotten you out. I was too late, and the ambulance arrived even after I did.”

Kagome took Inuyasha’s hand in hers. He used the last of his strength to protect me. “Sesshomaru, where’s Kouga?”

Sesshomaru hesitated; he didn’t know how to explain the situation. “As I arrived, Kouga was walking toward you and Inuyasha; he was close to your car… Inuyasha saw me and was worried that I might not sense the danger of walking toward you two, as you were still fairly close to the car… as Inuyasha yelled to me Kouga stopped walking, looking for me out of confusion… well, that is when the car exploded. Kouga was rushed to the Emergency Room, but it was too late. Youkai or not it was a very bad accident.” Kagome nodded, understanding that Kouga was dead. She couldn’t believe it, but she accepted the information.

“Has Inuyasha woken up yet?”

“Not yet. He became unconscious shortly after my arrival. The doctor says aside from some broken bones he will be just fine. There doesn’t seem to be head damage, at least that wasn’t already there.” Sesshomaru smirked slightly and Kagome realized he had been joking. She smiled, but her fear that he might not wake up worried her.

“He’ll be fine. He’s too stubborn to die.” Sesshomaru stood up, “I am going to get some coffee, I’ve been up all night. Would anybody like anything?”

“I’ll come with you Sesshomaru, I think I need a nice cup of coffee. Kagome?”

“I’m fine thanks.” Ms. Higarashi followed Sesshomaru out the door.

Kagome sat with Inuyasha for the entire day. He didn’t move much, but the few times his ears twitched or his arm moved she smiled, knowing he was at least alive. She went home that day, the doctor said she was perfectly fine to leave. She didn’t want to leave Inuyasha but the hospital was having a hard time even letting Sesshomaru stay, so she went home.

In the morning Kagome wasted no time going back to the hospital to stay with Inuyasha all day, even if he were still sleeping. She went up to his room, not bothering to knock. Inuyasha was sitting up, eating breakfast.

“’bout time you showed up.” He said, his mouth full. “I was beginning to think you didn’t like me anymore.”

“Inuyasha you’re alive!” Kagome hugged him excitedly.

“Feh.” He said, returning her hug with his good hand. “It’ll take a lot more than thirty two torn ligaments, a broken humorous, two broken femurs and three sprained phalanges to keep me down.” Inuyasha smirked as Kagome looked horrified.

“You have all that?” She asked.

“Yep.” He seemed quite proud of it actually.

“Well we’ll keep you bed ridden for a while and make sure you rest up.” Kagome fluffed his pillows as she spoke.

“Feh. Give me a week and I’ll be ship-shape.”

“Yea okay, and when week two comes around and you’re still on crutches we’ll see who’s right and who’s you.”

Inuyasha rolled his eyes, as Kagome did. “You two are meant for each other.” Sesshomaru shook his head in disbelief.

Kagome sat down next to his bed. “Sesshomaru told me what happened.”

“Yea.” Inuyasha seemed to be not phased by this.

“Thank you,” she kissed him on the cheek, “for saving me, and you.”

“Feh.”~

Two weeks later Inuyasha hobbled to the kitchen. He wasn’t using his crutches, but he still wasn’t walking properly.

“I told you that you would still be hurting two weeks later.” Kagome said from the living room. She had given up trying to do things for him because he just did them anyway.

“I’m not on crutches though! And those were your words.” Inuyasha seemed satisfied as he collapsed back on to the couch with his soda.

“Whatever.” Kagome rolled her eyes as she cuddled up next to him.

“Kagome,” Inuyasha’s tone was serious and she sat up to look at him easier. “With all the confusion of what’s been happening lately, I haven’t had a chance to ask you, how’s the baby?”

Kagome didn’t answer for a while. She worried her bottom lip and searched for the right words.

“I understand. You lost it in the accident.” Inuyasha said.

“No.” Kagome shook her head. “It was never there.” Inuyasha looked confused. “It was a false positive.”

Inuyasha seemed happier about this than if the baby had been lost. He kissed Kagome on the forehead and put his arm around her. “We’ll just keep trying.” He smirked.

“Perv.”
