InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ For The Love of An Enemy ❯ The Nightmare: An Evil Revealed ( Chapter 10 )
The Nightmare: An Evil Revealed
Kagome watched, frozen in place, as Sesshoumaru walked out the door, leaving her stunned and speechless on the bed. Did it really happen? She wondered as she raised her hand to her lips, as if to recapture the kiss that stole her breath. It had happened. Sesshoumaru had kissed her. She vividly recalled the intense look in his eyes the moment before he claimed her mouth, and she could still feel the burning passion he had left on her. The kiss hadn't scared her, the sheer force of it, the initial brutality, the smoldering sensuality, no; none of it had frightened her in the least. What had scared her, what had caused the fear to creep into her body in the wake of all that passion was one simple realization. She had enjoyed the kiss; it had made her feel alive and beautiful. Exhausted from the onslaught of emotions, Kagome laid her head on the pillow and drifted off to sleep, wondering what you were supposed to do when you found yourself aching for the touch of an enemy.

She was asleep, providing him with the perfect opportunity to test his new powers. He entered her mind and walked into her dream, interested to see that she was not dreaming of Inu Yasha, the hanyou that had aided in his defeat, but she dreamt of the older brother, Sesshoumaru, the powerful youkai lord that had even worried him when he was alive. It was interesting and certainly worth further analysis, but that was not what he was there for. He took the place of Sesshoumaru in her dream, enjoying the fear which caused her to pale as she looked into the face of an enemy she thought she had killed.
"You're dead" she said, trying to convince herself that he was not there, that it was only a dream.
"Oh but I'm not, I'm very much alive. Would you like me to show you?" he questioned menacingly as he grabbed both her arms and twisted them painfully behind her back.
"You're so beautiful, so pure, so innocent" he whispered in her ear as his free hand roamed her body, finally stopping to cover one beautifully rounded breast which he squeezed, causing her to gasp in pain. "So innocent" he breathed into her mouth as he claimed the lips Sesshoumaru had earlier. He bit her bottom lip, causing it to bleed. His tongue followed the trail of blood down her chin, the taste of it arousing him more than anything else possibly could. His impatience urged him to violently shred the shirt she wore, slicing her breasts as they were exposed to his view. He brought his hand up to her throat, feeling her pulse beat rapidly in fear and pain. He looked in to her eyes as he slowly moved his hand down the length of her body, over the ridge of her breast, into the hollow of her stomach, and down her thigh, resting it there as she started to violently struggle realizing his intent. She needn't worry about that right now. His wish at the moment was to hurt her, make her realize that he was very real and very dangerous. Her useless struggles only succeeded in causing her further pain, her arm bending at an unusual angle, breaking it. As the pain shot through her body, he dug his claws into the soft flesh of her thigh, leaving gashes that went to the top of her knee. She would remember this when she woke, she would see the damage and she would feel the pain.
A pity he thought, that he wouldn't be there when she awoke from her nightmare only to realize that it was not merely a dream. Pulling himself out of her dream he smiled wistfully, he would be back.
~~
He smelled blood, Kagome's blood, not stopping to wonder exactly when he had started referring to her by her name, he threw open the door to room to find her in the throes of a nightmare. Her shirt was torn and falling off of her body, blood covered her chin and her chest, her left arm lay limp and useless at her side, and she had three deep and long gashes on her left thigh, as if someone had dug their claws into her and tore through her flesh. She was crying out in pain and agony as an invisible enemy attacked her in her mind. And then she sat up, her eyes flew open, wild and fearful. She shook her head and looked around the room as she slowly remembered where she was.
"He's alive" she whispered as she focused on him.
"Who?" He questioned, wanting to know who had attacked her so violently through a dream.
"Naraku" she said, bringing her knees to her chest and placing her head on top of them as she started to tremble.
"What does he want?" Surely not the jewel he thought. Once it had been completed and purified it had simply ceased to exist, seeming to understand that it caused more pain than good.
Bringing her head up again to meet his gaze, with eyes filled with unshed tears and a hopeless terror, Sesshoumaru felt a wave of fury take over his body at the demon who reduced this strong woman, this woman who had dared defy even him, into a trembling mass of fear.
"What does he want?" He repeated again, since it appeared she hadn't heard him the first time.
"Me." She said quietly.
"Why?"
"Because I ruined his plans, I sent him to hell, I destroyed his precious jewel." She answered, smiling sadly. "He wants revenge, but don't we all?" she added on a sigh.
A little concerned by her words, he walked over to the bed, picked up the blanket that was draped over the end and threw it at her.
"Sleep." He commanded, she needed to recuperate from her wounds, both physical and mental, and she would never do that if she stayed awake and obsessed over her fear, making it more powerful with each moment that she dwelled on it. Besides he thought if she died the Tetsusagia would forever be lost to him, and he that he would not tolerate.
"I can't" she replied to his demand, "he'll hurt me again."
"No he won't" he said forcefully.
"You promise?" she said, expectantly looking into his eyes for the truth.
"This Sesshoumaru does not lie." That seemed to satisfy her because she crawled beneath the covers of the bed and instantly fell asleep, leaving him standing there alone, watching over her. He would protect her. He would protect her only because she was the key to the Tetsusagia. Sitting in a chair next to the bed his gaze rested on her face, looking for any hints of struggle or fear that would indicate another attack. He watched over her all night, never leaving her side, refusing to believe that anything other than the sword motivated his vigilance. He refused to believe that he wanted to keep her safe; he refused to believe it even though he felt it to the depths of his soul.
