InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ For The Love of An Enemy ❯ It Begins ( Chapter 12 )
It Begins
The bright blue sky was dimming, turning into an ominous gray, seeming to understand that the cheerful beauty of the sky was not suitable for the upcoming battle. The gloomy gray skies and the black, threatening clouds bespoke of the evil rapidly descending upon her, upon the world.
She had been preparing for a week now. She had not stopped for food or for rest. This was too important, too crucial. She would have time to eat and sleep afterwards, if she was still alive. She had explored herself, her mind and her soul, finding wells of power she had not known existed, her sleeping miko powers, she had awakened them, she would need them. She was a demon now, she could fight, she could move with blinding speed, she could purify with the flick of a wrist, but this was not enough. Naraku's evil was too potent, too powerful, only a true miko would be able to stand against him, and miko she would be when they met for battle. She had learned to harness her powers, learned how to call to them, how to make them flow through her blood and come alive.
Standing up and walking out of the luscious and exquisite garden that had offered the peace and serenity she needed to focus, she made her way back into the castle, seeking out the demon lord who had reluctantly agreed to fight with her.
Sesshoumaru as the name floated through her mind a soft smile touch her face. He was not indifferent, he was not cold, and he was not evil. His expressionless face and hard demeanor only masked a deeper longing for something he was afraid to find; love. The great inu demon was a surprise indeed, a pleasant one. She would miss him.
~~
He smelled her before she knocked on the door to his study. Everywhere he went the light and pure scent of a spring day followed him, haunted him. For a week she had sat there, unmoving and silent. For a week she had not moved, her eyes closed to the world as if she had been searching for something inside herself, as if she had been calling for strength from the very core of her soul.
She's ready he thought, and he was as well. The hanyou bastard Naraku was coming. He had sensed the slight and imperceptible change around him. The sun had begun to dull, its bright shafts of life no longer glowing, the air had become thicker, heavier, as if it were absorbing the evilness slowly seeping into the world. Naraku was coming, Sesshoumaru couldn't wait.
"Enter" he said flatly, remembering the miko stood outside his door. The smell of powerful magic followed her into room, surrounding her, giving her aura a pink glow. Her miko powers have gotten stronger he realized.
"He is coming" she said without preamble.
"I know"
"He will come here, he will come after me"
"I know" he said again.
"Are you prepared for this?" she asked quietly.
"I, Sesshoumaru, Lord of the Western Lands, am ready for everything." He replied in his usual arrogance. The truth was he felt a snake of worry wind its way through his mind. He was not stupid; he realized this Naraku was extremely dangerous and powerful as his aura had affected even the earthly elements; the skies, the air. But he would not let is show, he was the feared Sesshoumaru, undefeated and invincible, he would not be defeated, he would not lose.
"Well" the woman replied interrupting his thoughts, "at least you are confident." She said, with the ghost of a smile on her face.
"The question is, are you prepared. You were once a human after all. You are still susceptible to their weaknesses and their flaws." He said looking into the face of the woman who dared question his abilities.
He aura flared to a violent red as anger filled her, fury storming her eyes, deepening the blue color of them. "I am a demon and a miko. I have powers the even you, the great almighty Sesshoumaru do not possess. I am the master of a sword that can obliterate 100 demons in one swing." She yelled as she walked up to him, stopping barely an inch away from him.
"Do not EVER" she emphasized as she placed her hands on his chest, letting her purifying powers burn through his kimono to scorch his skin, "say that I am weak." She added finally, lifting her hands off of him, glaring angrily into the eyes of Sesshoumaru whose own rage and shock at her actions flashed in his eyes.
In his anger he pushed her against the wall, imprisoning her with his body and his hands.
"So you are not as weak as one might think. Fine. But do not EVER" he said, imitating her earlier emphasis, "make the mistake of believing that you are stronger than me."
He was only slightly disappointed when anger again flashed in her eyes instead of fear. She's beautiful when she's angry. He frowned as the errant thought raced through his mind; this was not the time for such thoughts. He was about to say something when her body stiffened against him. He felt her muscles tense and the slight tremor that followed. He took one look at her pale face and terror filled eyes and he knew. He knew before she spoke the words, he felt it.
"He's here."
~~
He stood alone in the empty field, waiting for his guests. They were coming; he could feel them, smell them. His patience was rapidly deteriorating as the anticipation flew through his body. Then they were there, he would have to wait no more.
Each was beautiful in their own right. The Inu Lord resplendent in his masculinity, power radiating from every pore of his being. But his eyes were only for the woman. Her silver streaked hair flying wildly with the wind, her bright blue eyes flaming with fear and anger. She stood defiantly next to Sesshoumaru, her former enemy, determination etched into every line of her body. She was going to fight. Good he thought, a wicked smile turning his lips. He wanted to see her fight, to see her flaming spirit as she tried to defeat him. He would enjoy watching the fire die; he would enjoy watching her break. A cruel laugh escaped his lips as the picture of her helpless and broken flashed in his mind. His eyes narrowed as they focused once again on the figure of Sesshoumaru, he was preparing to strike. The time for fantasies was over. The time for battle had arrived.
He glanced at the miko once more before focusing on his attacker. Soon he silently promised her soon he will be dead and you will belong to me.
He had waited for this moment, yearned for it, ached for it. The time was now and his beautiful, horrific dream was within his grasp. The battle had begun.
