Mine

Sesshoumaru crossed the distance between himself and Naraku in mere seconds, unsheathing Toukijin (damnit! I don't remember how to spell it!), the sword that craved blood. He swung his sword in deadly arc, aiming for the hanyou's head, intent on slicing it from his body. He was stopped in mid swing as a black tentacle shot out from Naraku's body, wrapping itself around Sesshoumaru's body and throwing him into a tree some hundred yards away/

This isn't happening Sesshoumaru thought in his head. His attack had been rebuked as if her were nothing more than a slight annoyance. No! he screamed silently. He swiftly stood up again and rushed the hanyou, prepared for any extremities that might attack him this time. And sure enough, they did. Dozens of them, coming out of every part of his body, attacking Sesshoumaru from every direction. His blinding speed allowed him to slash each one before they reached his body. But if the battle continued like this he would tire without ever touching Naraku's physical body.

His movements began to slow, his reactions began to fade, allowing one dangerous black tentacle to slip under his guard. It plunged into his chest, tearing through skin, muscle, and bone, the pain intensifying as it was ruthlessly yanked out of his body. Sesshoumaru fell to the ground, the pain and agony exploding in his body and blood forming a large pool at his feet. He dimly heard a woman's scream as he fought to stay conscious, to stay alive. Through the dizzy fog he saw a flash of pink and then felt cool steal in his empty hand. He stared at the object he now held, shock penetrating his pain filled brain, he waited for the burst of power, the electrical shock which would surely push him away. None came. Adrenaline shot through him, numbing the pain and allowing him to move despite his debilitating injury. The battle was not over, he had not lost, he would not be defeated, because in his hand he held a silver blade of hope, he held the Tetsusagia.

Kagome had watched, frozen in fear, as Sesshoumaru futilely fought Naraku. She watched, helpless as he began to tire, and she watched in pain as one of Naraku's tentacles impaled his body.

"Noooooooo!!!" she screamed agony. Sesshoumaru would not die. Cool determination swept through her body accompanied with a growing anger for Naraku, the bastard was killing him. She would not allow it. Her body began to emit a growing wave of pink, her miko powers were awakening, taking over her body. The silver streaks in her hair disappeared, her fangs retracted, and her markings faded as the miko blood in her began to replace the demon blood.

She focused her energy on the Tetsusagia she held in her hand. She knew what needed to be done. She relinquished her power over the fang and sent it to Sesshoumaru, its new master. She knew that was where it belonged, she could feel it. The great Inu Lord had finally won the Tetsusagia and he had won her heart. She loved the powerful demon. Whose rare tenderness warmed her, whose pride and honor went unmatched. She loved the demon who fought a battle that was not his, the demon who was prepared to give his life to save humankind, a race he claimed to despise. She loved him and Tetsusagia belonged with him.

Her thoughts were interrupted as a jolt of pain shifted her focus from Sesshoumaru to Naraku. He was slowly making his way towards her, having obviously dismissed the lord who was even now bringing himself off of the ground, preparing to fight once more. Naraku's black appendages were reaching for her, surrounding her, attacking her. She could feel them as they cut into her flesh, she could feel the blood and pain as the tore at her, trying to take her apart piece by piece. She stared into the black depths of Naraku's eyes as he stopped before her, his arm snaking out to grasp her neck. She heard the laugh, the pure evil nature of it as triumph began to light those hard eyes.

That's enough! She screamed. She would not die, she would not fail. With that resolve in mind she closed her eyes and focused the hand bruising her neck, her powers gathering in the one spot, disintegrating Naraku's hand. Yelling in pain he jumped back to escape further purification.

Kagome fought the fatigue that forced its way into her body at the sudden and overpowering use of her powers. She had only succeeded in purifying a part of his arm and she was already weary. She needed to concentrate but she was afraid she would not be able to as Naraku advanced on her again, seeming to know that the vulnerable position she was in. But the hanyou was stopped when a cool voice trembling with fury spoke.

"Your opponent is me Naraku." Sesshoumaru calmly stated as he unsheathed Tetsusagia, and held in all its transformed glory before him. "I've had enough with these little games, I will destroy you...now."

"So you are still alive Sesshoumaru." Naraku replied, irritation evident in his voice "you are stronger than I gave you credit for. But that puny sword is not going to help you" he replied. He closed his eyes, mentally calling every source of evil to his side. At his silent call thousands and thousands of youkai swarmed the area, surrounding him and creating a barrier of demons.

This was the distraction Kagome needed. As Naraku was busy with Sesshoumaru she began to create her own barrier, confident that she would be able to complete her task, until the youkai began to appear in masses. She would not be able to focus all of her energy on Naraku if she had to also fend off the offending inferior demons. As the thought swam through her head she noticed a soft blue beginning to surround her, as if it was protecting her. She looked out onto the battle field and met the gaze of Sesshoumaru. He nodded in her direction and his eyes fell to an object in front of her. Glancing down to see what had caught his attention and then she saw it. Embedded into the ground in front of her was Tenesiga. It was protecting her,, Sesshoumaru was protecting her. She mentally smiled and thanked whoever had sent her this wonderful man. She closed her eyes once more and focused all her energy on Naraku, she had to stop him before he killed Sesshoumaru.

Soon the sounds of battle dimmed, the sounds of death, the smell of blood, they all disappeared. She walked into the mind of Naraku, much the same way he had done when he had entered her dream. She struggled to stand under the dark pressure that was his evil, that was his soul.

"Naraku" she called out, feeling the surprise and shock race through him at her sudden appearance.

"It seems" he began, "that I have underestimated your strength. But it does not matter, you WILL be mine" he stated emphatically, reaching for her within his mind.

"No" she said calmly but firmly, erecting a barrier around herself that he could not breach. "Not this time Naraku, not ever. Your time is over. You lose." And with that Kagome let go of the pink tide of power that had been begging for release. The wave of purifying power destroyed him from within. Eradicating the blackness and banishing the evil. When she was done they both collapsed. She out of exhaustion from draining her powers and he out of pain. Naraku was a bloody heap on the ground, small and frail, his human side all that was left of the hanyou.

Concern flickered briefly across Sesshoumaru's face as he watched both fall helplessly to the ground. The youkai he had been fighting had disappeared, evaporated into the air as Naraku's evil had been purified.

He walked briskly over to the rumpled form of Naraku, taking in the broken and pathetic remnants of the hanyou. Sesshoumaru raised Tetsusagia, ready to decapitate him and finally rid the world of his presence, but he was stopped by the frantic words that slipped from the defeated demon's lips.

"You would lower yourself to save the life of a mere human? You the mighty Lord of the Western Lands who hates all humans with a burning passion?" Naraku questioned in desperation.

Leaning in closer, eyes tinged red in fury and anticipation, Sesshoumaru gave his answer in a deadly whisper.

"She is a demon, a miko, a woman, her name is Kagome, and she is mine." He finished as he severed the hanyou's head from the rest of his broken body. As Naraku's body dissipated into a heap of ashes, he rushed over to the spot where Kagome had collapsed, cradling her in his arms and praying that she was ok.

As he gazed down in to the liquid blue eyes he felt the tender touch of her hand at his cheek, his body growing warm at the simple caress. Three words passed her lips before the exhaustion and pain took over, and they were three words he would never forget.

"You are mine." She slumped in his arms, the deep oblivion of sleep finally claiming her. He brought her closer to his chest as if to protect her, though he was too injured to effectively do so. Looking down into her face he wiped off a streak of blood off of her cheek, noticing that her demonic markings were slowly reappearing. His gaze drifted up to the sky, the pale blue shining triumphantly through the ominous gray. He closed his eyes as realization swept through his body. He had found her, his mate, his love, and he would never let her go.
