The journey back to the castle had been more then uneventful. No one seemed to have any idea of what to do.
“Hey Kagome? Why do we have to wait so long, especially since winter is only three months?”
Kagome looked over at Sesshomaru hoping he would answer her sister's question. Seeing no help she bit her bottom lip.
”Well ya see, I'm…pregnant. And I can't just leave the baby alone I mean that would be neglect and I can't do that, and I know I'm never going to want our baby out of my sight and in my birth time mothers raise their children and not give them to servants like in this time.” She rattled.
“Kagome.” Sango barked taken back by her friend.
“Sorry, it still a new thing.”
”So I'll be an aunt?”
Kagome nodded and smiled. That was when the screaming started and the two embraced in happiness. All three men watched the exchange with mild humor.
“Congratulations Lord Sesshomaru.” Miroku bowed.
Sesshomaru seemed unfazed by the commotion, however he carefully hid his joy. While it was true he was young and was in no true need of an heir, that didn't stop the pride in knowing he would have a child.
“If that is the case then we need to make sure things are in order in the lands and in the castle.” Inu Yasha spoke up.
“I never thought of you to act like this Inu Yasha. You and Sesshomaru have rarely fought, you've taken command and have help run things around the palace. What have you done with my hanyou?”
”Feh. I haven't gone anywhere, but I've finally got to return to my home. We've traveled around it and I've avoided it as much as we could. I know there are people who don't like me but I don't expect everyone to be happy. I'm just making sure your happy and safe. Sesshomaru promised me that. I won't leave your side Kagome. Even if that means I have to pick up his slack.”
Sesshomaru snarled at the hanyou. “I have not neglected my duties as a Lord.”
“No but we make plans and you drop duties to follow us around. If you had told me, like the Alpha you are to my Beta, that Kagome was pregnant we wouldn't even have left the walls.”
”This Sesshomaru does not need to explain himself to you.”
”By your will no you don't, but as family and Beta if something is not in the best intrest of a pack mate then I can out vote you and challenge the decision by bringing it up with the rest of the pack.”
”Do not lecture me on the rules.” Sesshomaru gripped his brother's throat and growled a warning.
“And what would you have done if Kagome got hurt and lost the baby?” Inu Yasha remained calm.
“This one would not let harm come to her.”
”Really? Do I have to remind you of a battle before the accident in the clearing?”

Flashback:
One of Naraku's puppets grabbed Sango and Miroku tossing them at Koga and Sesshomaru. While Koga caught Sango and helped her to stand, Sesshomaru ran to attack the puppet from the back.
“INU YASHA!” Kagome screamed as a tentacle came from his blind side tossing him across the clearing and into a line of trees.
Sesshomaru leapt over the puppets about to strike when he was repelled by a barrier, knocking him back sever hundred feet into the forest.
Kagome lined up and arrow and poured what she could of her miko powers into the tip of the arrow. However seconds after it's release a tentacle slammed her across the back and onto the round, her head hitting a rock.

“I doubt any baby could have survived Kagome getting hit across the back, hell I'm barely conscious after hits like that.”
“You doubt my skills?”
”Damn it Sesshomaru. Just face it, we can't protect her every second if we have to kill whats attacking in order to protect her. There just isn't any way.”
Sesshomaru let go of his brothers throat not happy. Everyone watched him carefully.
“Mate.” Kagome said softly. “It's ok, I know what battle is like, I know I can't be protected and things happen. I know you can protect me and I know if you can't Inu Yasha will. That's how it works. I also know, however, that at the moment we are about to have a child in a couple of months and I don't want to lose it because I'm too stubborn to say we need to take a break. You may not like it but I think Inu Yasha is right, we need to stay at the castle. I don't want to be the cause of us losing our first child, and I don't want you to carry the idea it was your fault.”
”This one understands accidents happen.” Sesshomaru defended.
“That's great, but I can accept that I need to stay in the castle until after the pup is born. I can find something…tame to do.” Kagome bit her bottom lip watching how she worded the sentence.
Sesshomaru sighed. He wasn't angry but he wasn't happy about how his brother had almost challenged him either.
“If it is what you wish mate.”
“No. It's not and I know you know that, but I'm accepting my duty as a mother and a mate.”
“So it is a duty?”
”Damn it Sesshomaru. You don't love me so don't even turn that against me. What do you expect? I am trying. If you're not happy with it then go jump in a lake. I hope you drown.” Kagome snarled and walked away from the stunned group. Her calm and controlled aura whipped around her in anger.
Shippo and Rin hurried after her and the adults let them go, knowing they could get her to calm down without much damage.
 
Sesshomaru howled to the sky. Inu Yasha had tried to explain the being called Kagome that was his mate, but nothing made any sense. She liked flowers but wasn't much into gifts. She liked to be carried but always opted for walking. She was a walking anomaly. It was at this time he really hated his beast for choosing her as their mate.
She is perfect, admit it.
She is insufferable.
We like it.
You like it.
So do you.
The barrier dropped back into place again and Sesshomaru hated himself, mostly because it was true. If she was like all the other women in his time he would probably killed her on sight, but instead she had captured his interest, which lead back to his current headache and the start of his insanity.
“Look Sesshomaru. She is patient, caring, beautiful, and the most loyal person you will ever meet. Don't abuse her and she'll forgive you…in time.” Inu Yasha rubbed the back of his head. His brother was powerful but didn't seem to have all of his brains sometimes. But he did give him some credit, at least he didn't have subjugation beads around his neck too.
Sesshomaru didn't like the other man calling his mate beautiful, but pushed the feeling away knowing Inu Yasha had been with her longer then himself and had seen her at her best and worst and could have that opinion with out it being sexual.
“Are you even listening to me Alpha?”
”Hn.” Sesshomaru turned and followed the trail of his mate's scent. The slayer and monk had followed at a safe distance allowing his mate to think and calm down before entering the firing area.
Inu Yasha muttered obstinacies but followed his pack loving every minute of it.
 
Kagome slightly regretted being so mean to Sesshomaru. She wondered what had come over her to be so cruel. Sighing she continued her pace not really wanting to be in the said demon's presence. Shippo jumped on her shoulder and Rin grabbed her hand.
“Momma, even though you are having a pup will we still be your pups?” Rin asked.
Kagome smiled down at the girl and stop to kneel. “Just because me and Sesshomaru are having a pup does not mean you are Shippo will be replaced. Sesshomaru and I love both of you and that will never change. Shippo will always be my son and you will always be my daughter. A new pup will not change that no matter how many pups we have.”
”So we will still look at the stars and have story time?”
”Of course Rin. We'll just have one more with us to look at stars and listen to stories.”
”See Rin I told you it wouldn't change.” Shippo bragged.
Rin stuck her tongue out and scrunched her eyes shut.
Kagome stood but decided against it and bent down again to offer her back to Rin. The girl understood the offer and quickly climbed on.
Sango and Miroku watched Kagome almost a quarter mile ahead of them. Kirara lay in Sango's arms asleep and Miroku quickly made a decision.
“Sango, my lovely butterfly, we are now aware of where Kohaku is and the jewel is almost done. Naraku is gone and so is my wind-tunnel. I am no longer obligated to have a son…”
”You will never change monk. Your wondering hands will still get you into trouble…” Sango intergected.
“But Sango again you misunderstand me. I wish to ask you if you will marry me?” Miroku stopped Sango in the road and stared into her eyes.
“Miroku…”
”I am aware of my habits and I wish to only use those habits on you my butterfly. It is you who I strive to be with. I wish for us to be married. To have many children, not because of obligation but because of want.”
”Oh Miroku.” Sango reached up to touch his cheek. “I will marry you.”
Miroku smiled. “Thank you Lady Sango, you have made me a happy man.”
”Oi. Why are you not watching Kagome? Where is she?” Inu Yasha interrupted voicing his and Sesshomaru's annoyance.
“She was just a head of us.” Sango looked at the road and gasp as her best friend was no longer in sight.
 
Kagome began humming to herself. A old song her mother and her use to sing popped into her head. Shippo and Rin listened before they were entranced in the melody.
“Momma, will you sing?” Shippo asked.
“Oh Shippo, you know I can't sing.” Kagome chide.
“Rin has never heard your singing Lady Mother Kagome.”
Kagome sighed and looked behind her realizing she was alone. “We will stop and wait for the others and I will sing, but you can not laugh at my singing.”
Shippo gave her innocent eyes and crossed his heart. Kagome glared playfully at him knowing he was playing.
Rin climbed off Kagome's back and sat at the road's edge. Kagome sat next to her and Shippo climbed down to sit on her other side.
Kagome started out at a hum and slowly began to old song. She knew her voice wasn't as good as her mother's but she tried to hit all the notes. Kagome ended her song and smiled down at the children leaning on her body.
A bush shook in the woods in front of them. Shippo and Rin were both alert and Kagome was up, her miko blade drawn. Both children hid behind her. Shippo watched his mother's back knowing all too well they could be attacked from behind.
The bush shook again.
“If this is one of those time something small happens and we all of a sudden get jumped by the biggest demon out here, or some small creature hops out and moments later the big monster comes, I'm join to be pissed.”
“I got your back mom.” Shippo told her.
“Thanks Shippo.”
The bush wiggled and finally a small bird hopped out. It's wing lay lame at it's side.
“Ok we got a bird, anyone wanna take up the bet we got one of those evil siren birds behind it.”
”Kagome.” Shippo warned. Sometimes he hated how she always expected the worst.
“Sorry. But you have to admit it would be our luck.”
The bird flapped weakly for a moment. “It's not a demon, Shippo stay alert.” Kagome placed a barrier around the two kids and stepped cautiously forward.
Getting closer Kagome realized that the bird wasn't as small as it looked. Upon futher inspection Kagome concluded it was a red-tailed hawk.
“Hey little guy are you hurt?” Kagome reached out gently and wasn't surprised as the bird tried to spread it's wings and attack. Kagome hushed it and knelt offering her hand. The hawk snapped and began to hop away. “Oh no you don't, I'm not going to let you die.” She reached out ignoring the pecking and grabbed the wounded bird. She held it in one hand and gently took the injured wing flexing it lightly assessing the damage.
“Everything ok Kagome?” Shippo called.
“Just stay in the barrier and hope nothing attacks.” She called back.
Focusing on what was obviously a broken wing she began to mend the bones with her energy. The bird calmed down and stopped it's relentless attack.
Finished with the wing Kagome reached in her kimono and pulled out a pouch full of dried meat. She used her mouth to tug open the pouch and reached in to pull out a piece. The bird eyed it then her and back to the food.
Setting the meat on the road she laid the hawk down gently. He snatched it up and quickly left with a gust of wings. Kagome smiled at a job well done and stood dusting herself off.
“I'm getting paranoid about this Shippo, let's head back up the road and find everyone else.”
Shippo nodded and turned to face his mom. Kagome dropped the barrier and both children rushed to her side. Kagome led them back up the road in hopes of figuring out how they got so far ahead.
 
Sesshomaru snarled again for more then the eighth time in less than 300 feet. Kagome was no where to be seen on the road.
“Calm down.” Sango huffed. “It's not like we meant to loss her, besides with Kagome's power she will be fine along enough for us to sense her and get to them.”
”Hn.”
At that moment Kagome could be seen coming over the hill a mile ahead of them.
 
Sesshomaru forced Kagome to stay at his side until they reached a good place to camp. The sun was starting to set and the day gave rise to the night.
Deciding she was done walking, Kagome veered off the road and sat in a clearing to the side of the road.
“What are you doing, we can still get a few more miles in before it gets too dark?” Inu Yasha whined.
“And what will you do if we get attacked and even I can't see? Would you risk everyone's lives? We've been over this Inu Yasha.”
“Fine, don't start letting things go to your head Kagome, powerful or not, we are not your slaves. We're not going to jump every time you want.”
”I don't want everyone dead. I don't want to suffer any more then I already have. I don't want Sango or Miroku to suffer. I don't want you or Sesshomaru to suffer. What would you do if one person in this pack died? Naraku is dead. We know where Kohaku is with the shard.” Kagome cried. “What more do you want?”
Inu Yasha looked at his best-friend. He knew she was right, he was being stupid. He mind was still thinking they had to hunt Naraku. They had to push on. Traveling nonstop for 4 years had twisted his mind into thinking it would never end. What was he suppose to do now?
“I'm sorry Kagome. At times I forget we killed Naraku. I'm sorry.” Inu Yasha's ears drooped.
Kagome took a deep breath. “You are forgiven, but don't ever accuse me of treating my friends like slaves.” He nodded and her expression softened. Walking over to him she wrapped her arms around he and held him.
Inu Yasha felt like a pup again and took in Kagome's smell forcing himself to calm down. “Are you ok?” He heard her ask. Nodding deftly he pulled away.
”Ya, it's just what we have been doing for what seems like forever is done.”
”I know.” Kagome smiled at him.
 
They settled down for the night and Sesshomaru took guard duty. Kagome lay against his side, her head resting on his thigh, his hand petting her hair. Shippo was cuddled against her thigh and stomach and Rin used the upper part of her stomach and side as a pillow.
“Sesshomaru.” Kagome whispered.
“Go to sleep mate, we are safe.”
”I know.”
“Then sleep.”
”I can't. My mind is racing. I'm wide awake.”
Sesshomaru growled low and let it turn into a purr in his stomach. Above him Inu Yasha responded and began to purr also. Shippo woke to look at them through sleepy eyes. Kagome smiled and rubbed her cheek against the thigh under her letting the sound wash over her.
She fell asleep moments later.
 
Sesshomaru stepped through the gates first followed by the rest of the group.
Kagome dismissed herself with the children and led them to the gardens. Inu Yasha and Sesshomaru locked themselves together in the study, leaving Miroku and Sango alone together also.
 
“Momma?” Shippo asked hanging on to her shoulder.
Kagome mumbled something between the bundle between her teeth. Rin had asked if she could carry it but had instead been picked up and tossed over a shoulder like a sack of potatoes. They headed out into the garden. Kagome looked around hoping no one was around. It was her lucky day, they were alone.
She would have to thank the cooks in the kitchen somehow. Maybe a day off? “Where are we going?” Rin asked.
Kagome mumbled something.
“Training, what kind of training?”
”Mafhij.” Kagome supplied.
“Magic? Why?”
Kagome looked at the big tree in from of them and dumped both children at its base. Placing a barrier so nothing could get out and few things in Kagome set the package down. “I'm going to start your training. Rin you are showing a small amount of power, if it's from Sesshomaru or if you're a miko or what I'm not sure. Shippo being a kitsune you need to learn more then one attack if you plan on growing. I don't think you wanna be that small for all of your life.”
Shippo shrugged. Rin smiled excited with the idea.
“I have a surprise in this package, something I had cook make just for us. But to get it I want you to meditate. I'll direct you to find the power within you and if you can grab it you can have the surprise. First one to do it gets a second one. Fair?” Shippo and Rin looked at each other. It would come down to who is better in this game. Rin nodded first hoping she could win before Shippo, she did after all, love Lady Mother Kagome's surprises. Shippo seen Rin nod and he thought about it one more second before nodding himself.
“Alright, I want both of you to sit back to back.” She helped them into the position. “Relax on each other, you'll help each other sit up.” Shippo was half the size of Rin but after relaxing he realized Rin sat up straighter with him along her spine. “Alright close your eyes and focus on my voice.” Both children did as told. “Clear your mind and listen to only my voice.”
Kagome knelt beside the children. Her mental lessons from her other half made her feel like a whole new person, she knew of things that had been lost to the current age an knew of things that were glad to be forgotten, hopefully through her children she could pass on her new knowledge.
Shippo concentrated hard, Miroku had done something similar with him and so had Inu Yasha but everyone had seemed to lose patience with him.This time he would try harder and not fail in font of Kagome.
Rin listen to what she was told. Her Lord having mentioned a growing power in her only excited her more finding out her Lady agreed. Now she would have a chance to use what she had, hopefully to make her mother and father figures proud.
 
Kagome slowly instructed both children through their minds watching as fear, happiness, sorrow and love passed over their faces. She knew they were close to their powers and prepared a shield just incase.
Shippo slowly reached out to his blue flame mentally asking it to come forward.
Rin giggled and reached out to her purple star motioning it forward like a lost pet.
Kagome threw up the barrier between both children as their power flare to life at the same time. She shielded her eyes at the intensity. Shippo lost his glow followed by Rin. They looked at each other from different sides of the barrier grinning.
“I beat you.”
”Un uh. This Rin beat you.” Rin stuck her tongue out. Shippo copied her.
Finally able to see Kagome looked at the two and smiled. “Congratulations you tied. But more important you have more control over the power you have. We're closer to being able to see your attacks or gifts.” Kagome took the package and gently unwrapped it revealing four chocolate strawberries.
“What are they?” Rin asked never seeing anything like it.
“Since you tied, and I know you will like them you are allowed two apiece.”
”But your not having any Momma?”
”No this was about you two. There are more, but it will not be something to get everyday. Is that clear?” Both nodded taking one of the treats.
Rin watched Shippo pop the whole thing in his mouth. His cheeks puffed and he rolled onto his back after a moment, the food no longer present.
“Is it good?” She asked.
”Try it, Kagome has never lied to us and she hasn't started yet.” Shippo reached out for his second and last one this time enjoying it.
Rin took a small bit of the tip. It was really sweet. Recognizing the two items as a strawberry and chocolate she ate it with less fear. Shippo left the last one fore her and she ate it with a smile.
Kagome smiled happy that they were happy.
“Alright, I think we should get ready for dinner.” Kagome stood and dusted off her kimono.
“Dinner is being served as you speak Mate. You are late.” Sesshomaru growled.
“Sorry.” Kagome blushed and quickly sent to children to dinner.
Sesshomaru stared at his mate. “Kagome.” He muttered.
“Did I do something wrong again?” She paniced.
“No, but you need to eat. I will need to be strong for the pup.” He reached out touching the side of her face.
Kagome stared into his eyes. “I know, but I just don't think about it much, I worry about Shippo and Rin, and you, and Sango and Miroku, and Inu Yasha. Myself comes last, it always has.”
Sesshomaru let out a sigh and pulled her into his embrace. Nuzzling her neck he could faintly smell the change of her body and the pup. Inhaling deeper he couldn't help but feel proud and wanted. Somewhere deep in him the ice around his heart cracked.
 
Kagome and Sesshomaru never made it to dinner, they instead sat in the tree where Kagome had begun the kids' training. He had her wrapped tightly in his arms. The sky was clear and the full moon could be seen.
“I heard what you had told Aries.” Sesshomaru whispered suddenly breaking the silence.
Kagome jumped and suddenly felt the need to leave. “Put me down Sesshomaru, please.”
Sesshomaru tightened his grip becoming almost painful, “A hundred years is a long time to wait, and I can not say how sorry I am for not asking you for your permission for the change. I can only ask your forgiveness for all of my mistakes. That day when you got hurt, my beast was already trying to take control. When Naraku attacked, I had control, but then I say your would and I smelt the blood and we were fighting. It was like when Inu Yasha and I fight, we are on equal ground but can't get an upper hand. My conscious always held me back from really doing damage. My beast and I are equal. If I could change that day I would, if only to make you happy.” He relaxed knowing she was listening to his rambling. “I have never thought someone as strong as myself would be brought to his knees as I was.”
Kagome listened unsure if she should also apologize. “Sesshomaru, every person, demon or human, has flaws. Yours is your power and your pride. Mine is my kindness and ability to see only the good in people. It makes us who we are though. A hundred years maybe a long time, but with the way things are going, someone will love the other soon. We have a child on the way and I will never regret telling you yes. I know what I agreed to, and yes you make mistakes but I should apologize also. You didn't cause the situation. You tried to explain what was going on to me and I blamed you later for it. I listened to only what I wanted to hear. You gave me power to save those I care about and to survive whatever problems may come to me, us, but I hated you. You have been kind, slow and gentle. Even for a icy demon Lord. You have my apologies also. I have been rude and unfair. I was raised better.” Kagome bit her lip so hard trying to stop the tears but bit so hard it bled.
“Kagome we have both had mistakes. I wish for us to start over.”
Kagome thought about it sucking her lip “Agreed.” She turned to look at him careful not to fall.
Sesshomaru know she was bleeding but it wasn't until he was the blood painting her lips that he craved to lick it, to taste it.
“Sesshomaru?” She hesitantly asked. She followed his eyes realizing he was staring at her lips, probably the blood. “Please, Sesshomaru not yet.”
Her begging brought him out of the trance. Instead he reached out and smearing away the drop of blood with his finger. Staring at the red substance he licked it off the single digit. Kagome shivered in front of him. He smelt was empty showing she was just most likely cold. Her blood was sweet, unlike anything he had tasted in his lifetime.
“Let us retire.” He commanded. Kagome only nodded.
Kagome let him carry her to their rooms and lock the door. A barrier surrounded them glowing green and pink. She stared at the patterns it seemed to make.
“It is your power and mine. It can occur is both mates are strong enough to raise a barrier and hold it no matter what.” Sesshomaru watched her and smiled.
Kagome caught his smile and added her own. “It is beautiful.”
“Yes you are.” Kagome gave him a pointed look, which he ignored.
Stripping, Sesshomaru pulled his mate close to him and slowly took off each layer of clothing.
Kagome lay on her back, finding no reason to beg him to stop. His hands peeled away the last bit of clothing revealing her fully naked body. She expected him to ravish her body but instead he pulled her close, scooted lower in the bed and placed his head on her stomach, promptly falling into a deep sleep.
 
Inu Yasha sat on the top of a guard post. He knew they wouldn't be attacked but he stayed having nothing else to do.
”Lord Inu Yasha.” A guard called up to him.
“What?”
”Lord Sesshomaru wants you in his study.”
”Now what? Inu Yasha lept off the tower and walked through the castle to his brother.
Sesshomaru sat behind the desk working through the maps his mate had given him. Looking up momentarily to nod at his brother.
“What do you want?”
“This one needs a favor. Totosai requires Kagome's and my fangs I order to finish her sword. You will take them to him and wait until the weapon has been finished.”
Inu Yasha growled. He knew better then argue. “When do you want me to leave?”
”Tomorrow sometime is fine.” The further silence signaled his dismissal.
“The fangs?”
”This one will give to you at dinner.”
Inu Yasha left muttering.
 
Kagome had taken both children out as soon as breakfast was over. Today they would work on manifesting their powers. Shippo got it quickly but Kagome had to work with Rin for another hour before she had it. They meditated for two hours and finally Kagome let them play a bit before lunch.
Sesshomaru joined his Mate and the children just as they were sitting down in the gardens to eat. The children scarfed the small salad and ran off to play leaving Kagome and him alone.
“You said I could make my friends lives longer, how does it work?”
”This one is unsure of detail since it has never been recorded. It is not often humans and demons become friends to the level we are exhibiting. This one is aware of the ritual. He had a trusted retainer get it from the Ancient Tree. “
”Aw, I've meet him once. We were looking for shards. I'm not sure he liked me much.”
”Rest asure he has you marked as an ally. You are either no threat to him or can benefit him in a time of need.”
“Oh, well I guess that is better then nothing.” Kagome shrugged. “So what is the ritual?”
”It is similar to the one preformed to change you.”
“I have to have sex with them?” Kagome turned pale and felt sick with the idea.
“No.” Sesshomaru snarled and realized they had been having sex when he had changed her, understanding her assumption he continued. “No, you will have to give them your blood and will say the spell.”
“Oh, thank Kami.” Kagome relaxed letting out a breath she had been holding. “Does it matter when the ritual is done?”
”It must be done on a full or new moon.”
“We'll have to wait for the full moon. Inu Yasha can't be out on the new moon.”
”This one is aware, however, he believes it would be wise to do it on this night because the hanyou's lifetime is questioned. If he ages during his human night I would be of no help to only bind his immortal side.”
”So you're saying I should do the spell with his human side because the demon side will live longer anyways?”
”Yes.”
“I guess that makes sense. What risks could this rise?”
”Since it has not been recorded this one had no idea. No one is alive that is known to ask either.”
”Alright, what is the worst that could happen?”
”Do you really wish to know?”
Kagome thought about it and flinched at some of the ideas. “No not really.”
”Hn.”
”I think I'm done teaching Shippo and Rin today, are you busy?”
A servant cleaned up the dishes and quickly left.
“Not that this one can not think of.” In truth he had one think he had to do, it could wait though.
“Can we go take a very long bath?”
He thought is over and agreed. “Get your materials and we will go to a hot springs this one knows of.”
Kagome sighed grateful he had agreed. The last day and a half it had seemed like he was mad at her. She knew he would keep his image up in public but just this conversation was hard. She had come to like what he was when they were alone.
Grabbing her shampoo, body soap, luffa, and razor, Kagome returned to the garden.
 
Sesshomaru flew low to the trees looking for the mark. Seeing it, he angled down and landed next to a hot spring. Next to it was a river that funneled in and out of the steaming water. A waterfall could be seen 100 yards to the north. The plant life was at it's greenest feeding the butterflies and bees.
Kagome looked around in awe. It was breath taking. There was nothing like this in her era and she knew that she would be sad to see it destroyed and built on top of. She looked at her mate and smiled.
“It's so beautiful. I've never seen something this tranquil.” Kagome left Sesshomaru's side and headed for the water.
He was content that she had liked the area. He and Rin had found it one day while traveling his lands. He watched at the woman in front of him stripped and eased herself into the heated water.
 
Kagome lie back against the heated rocks and let the water sooth away the aches she had beginning in her body. She knew it probably wasn't such a good idea to be taking the bath considering she was pregnant but something told her she and the baby would be fine. Beside her Sesshomaru eased into the steaming water. He reached out and pulled her to his side.
“Will you allow me to watch you wash?”
Kagome blushed. She couldn't think of any idea that didn't sound wrong with his words. Settling for shaking her head she continued to blush. “If only you will allow me to wash your hair.”
Sesshomaru thought of it and knowing her `shampoo' was acceptable he agreed.
Kagome smiled a red tint still splashed across her cheeks. She motioned for him to stand in front of her and to dunk. Wetting his hair, Kagome poured a handful of soap in her palm.
Working the mint and cucumber shampoo in Sesshomaru's hair took awhile. It was long and the silk like texture deserved her unflinching focus. When she finally finished she began the even more daunting task of washing the soap out.
Sesshomaru stood relaxed as the woman behind him played with his hair, her hands working the long tresses with skill and care. He would agree to anything to have her do it for eternity.
Kagome had him dunk and scrubbed the last of the shampoo out. Smiling, Kagome eased a stray lock back into place.
“Thank you.” Sesshomaru breathed taking her in his arms. “You will wash and we will return for dinner?”
Slightly disappointed they wouldn't stay longer Kagome nodded. Seeing her unhappiness Sesshomaru tilted her head up to look at him. “Do you wish to stay longer?”
“I would but I understand if we need to get back.” Kagome admitted.
“This one needs to talk to you and get something so that Inu Yasha can leave tomorrow.”
”What? Why is he leaving?” Kagome whined suddenly afraid she had done something to upset him. Not wanting one of her best friends to leave.
“Fear not. He will return. This one will require a fang so that Totosai will forge a demonic blade for you. Your hanyou will return.” Sesshomaru wasn't happy with her reaction.
“I didn't mean it to sound like that. Sorry. What I meant was I was afraid he was leaving for good because of something I had done. I care for Inu Yasha, you know this, but he is a brother, I love him but I have you and while he is with me I know that we are mates and there is only you and me. There could be nothing between him and me, it wasn't meant to be. Kami put us together for a reason, at times I don't like it, but I accept it.” Kagome resigned. Hours of thinking by herself had brought her to that conclusion. Inu Yasha and her would have been together is it was meant to be, since she was with Sesshomaru instead, she would accept her destiny set by them.
Sesshomaru listened and calmed himself down. “This one is not happy with our relationship with the hanyou, but he has given his word that you will remain together as long as you see fit, I will not interfere with your friendship, however understand that if the pup challenges me or takes the wrong moves that threaten his place in our pack, or threatens to take you from me I will severely hurt him. This one understands he can not kill the pup, but there are things I can do worse then death.”
Kagome grew angry. “I get it Sesshomaru. I accept the role that's been dumped in my lap, but don't ever threaten my friends. Inu Yasha and I have faced more together then you know of. Like it of not we are friends, and I know enough that it will go no further then that. I'm not a whore Sesshomaru, but the fact that you assume I would be unloyal is starting to wear thin on my nerves.” She pulled away from him and began to wash quickly, no longer feeling like taking a bath.
Sesshomaru snarled but held himself in check. She doesn't know better he kept thinking over and over. His beast fought not to punish her but he held him back. Finally calming down he watched as she dunked under water to wash to soap from her hair and body. The soap floated to the top blocking his view of her. Seconds passed and she had yet to surface. The soap heavily clung to the water blocking his sight.
“Mate?” He growled. “This one is not amused.”
More time passed and still she had not surfaced. Beginning to worry he spread his aura over the area and leapt from the hot spring into the river. Looking around he took a step and plunged his arm into the river pulling the missing woman from the riverbed.
Kagome lay limp and unconscious in his arms as he went to the bank. He set her down in the grass and looked around. Normally he wouldn't have bothered to save someone from drowning in a river, but as his mate he felt he had to, but what did he do now? Any regular human would be dead, and any demon with common sense wouldn't have been in the river without full consciousness. Her breathing was gargled, he knew she had water in her lungs but couldn't figure out to remove it. Panic began to set in and he didn't like it.
 
Kagome didn't know what was going on. She had been removing the soap from her body and suddenly the water turned shockingly cold and she lost consciousness. Unable how though she had gone from water to mountaintop with no water in view was beyond d her. The rocky slope covered in snow seemed to have no effect on her naked body. Standing she brushed the water from her body and forced herself to throw up, forcing the water in her lungs out.
 
Sesshomaru sighed in relief as water began to flow from her mouth. He wasn't sure what Kagome was doing or what had happened but he would wait.
 
Kagome wrung out her hair and tossed the thigh length tresses onto her back. Looking over the baron lands in front of her, Kagome tried to find some sort of land mark, but the land was unyielding.
“Just great. I don't even know where I am.” Placing her hands on her hips she growled.
Shikon Miko, we welcome you to the lands of the Gods.
Unsure of what was going on, Kagome sealed herself away and forced herself to show no emotion. “Why is it you have brought me here?”
Many things have changed have they not? It was not our will that created Naraku, and it was against our faiths to condone his trials. For that balance must be restored.
“So, you have brought me here as penitence?” Kagome shifted from foot to foot. Boy was she confused.
You will not pay for the deeds of the evil one. We have brought you here to grasp your new power. Through you the world will be balanced again.
“I have never doubted you, I may not like how things are but I will accept the duty you place on me.” She bowed hoping she wasn't facing the wrong way. The voice was strange to her but she couldn't bring herself to be anything but respectful to it.
You will train here in the realm of Gods. You will them have the power to open our gates to release your friends. It is a gift of good faith. More will be waiting with them if we decide you are worthy of the power.
Kagome stayed bowing. “I am grateful. But I'm sure you are aware that I am needed with my mate.”
You will return to your life during the day, at night you will train. Every five moons you may rest. For now you are dismissed from our presence.
 
Kagome gasped for air. She rolled to her side and coughed out more water. A hand pulled her hair away and rubbed her back. Between gasping for air and coughing up water, Kagome felt her throat going raw. The blood was beginning to mix with the last of the water.
“Mate are you well?” Sesshomaru questioned, unsure of what was truly going on.
Taking in another gulp of air she shook her head. “Take me back.” She whined.
Understanding her demand he dressed and wrapped her in his fur.
“I will send someone to retrieve your supplies.” He said taking to the sky in a flurry of power. It took less time to return to the castle then it had to leave. Landing on his balcony her pushed open the doors and went to place his mate on the bed. Kagome shivered uncontrollably understanding her need for warmth he placed her under the sheets and undressed to join her.
Kagome felt cold all the way to the bone. Burying her body against the man beside her she felt him wrap his arms around her. The fur twisted around her body moved like a snake and replaced itself against he back.
“I'm so cold Sesshomaru.”
”I will return.” Removing himself from the bed he replaced his pants and hurried from the room. Minutes later he returned with servants carrying blankets. The pulled the comforter down and spread the blankets quickly and efficiently on the single sheet covering their Lady. They replaced the comforter and started a fire in the fireplace before leaving. Sesshomaru shut the doors outside and placed a barrier up. He rejoined her in bed pulling her close.
Kagome tried to pull heat into her body but to no avail she remained cold.
“Mate, Kagome, what happened?” Sesshomaru brushed her hair off her face.
“Gods…meeting on mountain…training at night…balance.” She was so cold her teeth chattered making full sentences impossible.
Sesshomaru growled unsure of what to do. The heat was beginning to effect his body it was cool outside but the heat he had brought to her was beyond simple warmth.
“Sess…?” She chattered.
“Hn?” His attention snapped to her.
“Training…return dead…good faith.”
“This training will return the dead in good faith?” He asked confused.
“No… good faith of gods…more may…come.” A strong chill over took her body and Kagome tensed in pain. “Need heat.”
“I can not do much more short of taking you to Totosai's mountain.”
”Volcano will…kill me.” Shaking her head Kagome thought of everything that made her warm. Smiling she remembered some of the silly things. “Aries?”
Sesshomaru thought about it. “He had returned for a time to his lands. As have all the others. It will take a full day travel to reach him and another for his return.”
Scratching that mentally off her list Kagome continued thinking. “Sex?” She remembered the heat of their bodied pressed together and shuttered.
“No.”
Teeth still chattering Kagome looked at him. “Why?”
Sesshomaru pulled her tighter to his body. “I do not wish to harm the pup. After a female is pupped, the male will often leave so that he is not tempted to mate again. I have felt no such need and have stayed knowing you would not understand.
“Oh…my time…not matters.” She tired to make sense.
“You mate still even if you are pupped?” He was stunned.
“Yes… some men…like… not hurt…pup.” Surprised with this information he thought about it. His mate was in need of warmth. If she didn't get warm she would get sick and weak and could unwillingly harm their pup. Or he could try to be gentle and mate with her again. Not liking either choice her took the less evil.
“I do not like the choices but I trust your knowledge of future events. If you say it will not harm our pup I will trust your word.” Sesshomaru bowed down and nuzzled her neck.
Kagome pulled them so that she was on her back and he hovered above her.
Sesshomaru started at her neck and slowly teased his way down her body. His kisses lighting her skin on fire, but still her bones lay chilled. He spread her thighs with his hands, he watched her as he licked and kissed the only lips he was allowed to kiss. His tongue gave one swift lick before he climbed slowly back up her body. Kagome pushed his fur away from her body and pulled the man above her closer. She rubbed her face against his cheek and bared her neck to him.
“If I don't wake later tonight, don't worry. But don't leave me. Please.” Kagome whispered. Something inside her didn't want to be left alone. That feeling led to deeper feelings of abandonment. She knew that in asking him to have sex she was pushing his traditions past the limit and didn't want to wake in the morning alone.
“I will be here.” Sesshomaru vowed before lining himself up and slowly pushing himself into her willing body.
The cold that seemed to clench at her body seemed to break as the man above her sheathed himself in her fully.
Sesshomaru felt the change in his mate but couldn't bring himself to stop. He pulled out and pushed in watching the woman below him writhe in pleasure.
The slow pace was torturous for Kagome, but she kept her mouth shut. Something told her Sesshomaru wouldn't do much more then what he was now because of the baby. The orgasm hit them both unexpectedly. Kagome dug her nails into the skin under her hands, and Sesshomaru roared as his seed spilled into her body.
Not wanting to hurt Kagome, Sesshomaru collapsed to the side of the woman and lay only on one leg. Kagome groaned as her heart raced, she moved her upped body closer to the warm body next to her. Sesshomaru reached out and threw his left arm across Kagome's body and rolled over just enough to pull her to his chest.
“Good night.”
”Good night mate.” He growled before falling into a light sleep.
 
Kagome stood on the snow cover mountain again. She knew that her body lay next to Sesshomaru, but whatever piece of her that was here was uncomfortable.
Your soul will not be affected by these visits Miko.
Kagome bowed and kept her voice respectful. “I am ready to train my Lord and Ladies.” Kagome said unsure how to address the superiors watching her.
Your first tasks are to master your holy energy. The miko Mideriko has already showed you many lessons, but as the true soul and wielder of the Shikon no Tama, you must be able to absorb the jewel and control the power you will gain.
“With respect, how do I learn to control a power I do not have?”
We will multiply what energy you have to match that of what it will be with the jewel, you will lose the power when you leave and gain it when you return, until the training is finished.
Kagome felt something growing in her rising to the surface of his skin. It felt like a beast was trying to claw it's way out of her body. Screaming in pain, Kagome clutched her chest.
This similar to the power level you will feel when the jewel is reunited with your body. To start your training, you must first harness this power and form it into a form easier to handle.
Kagome nodded and focused on the power flowing through her veins. Basic shapes seemed to simple for the power she carried so she had to think for a moment what would be appropriate. The shape had to be complex; if it were too simple it wouldn't do any good if she had to draw from it quickly. But on the same thought it couldn't be too complex that she couldn't reach it at all.
A symbol will be effective enough.
Kagome thought about and gathered the energy into a ball forming it into a celestial constellation, Libra to be exact. The constellation for balance.
Appropriate miko. Your next task is to form attacks and defenses. For the time you are here your power will be unlimited, however in life you will know your limits.
“Do I also need to learn to heal?”
One step at a time.
Kagome spent what seemed like days training just her holy energy. Finally he mind was exhausted and she felt herself falling back into her body.
 
Sesshomaru had woke when the first light had came over the horizon. The fire had died out and most of the blankets were on the floor. He lift his head from his mate's stomach and tried to wake her. Something told him not to be worried when she didn't respond. She herself had told him not to worry. Taking the opportunity he opened her mouth and placed a small amount of poison in her gum to numb it and pulled a single canine. She lay still through it and he knew she was truly where ever the gods had taken her. He stared at her moments longer before sending out a mental call for Inu Yasha.
The hanyou arrived angry and sleepy. Sesshomaru pulled his own fang and handed them to his brother with orders. Inu Yasha waved him off and left with a flurry of insults. Sensing the children's melancholy from his room he sent a servant to fetch them. Deciding to allow them to lay with his mate.
Dressing Kagome in a sleeping kimono he pulled the sheet over her just as the children knocked on the door.
“Enter.” His voice was cold and stoic.
“You summoned us Lord Sesshomaru?” Rin and Shippo were still dressed for bed, meaning they hadn't been awake long.
“You will lay with your…mother.” He hesitated over the word. Deep down he knew Kagome would be glowing at him for the word but couldn't find it in himself to let it show.
Shippo and Rin nodded not minding the order. The climbed into the bed and lay down, snuggling against her skin, both children fell promptly asleep. Sesshomaru looked down at them for a while before sealing the room and laying down beside them to watch over them.
 
Kagome woke to a pile of bodies. It took her a moment to figure out what was really going on. Shippo lay against her chest snoring lightly. Rin's back was pressed lightly against the front of her body Shippo resting at the nap of her neck. Sesshomaru was at her back one arm under her head, the other around her and Rin's waists. By Sesshomaru's breathing he too was asleep, if only vaguely.
Yawning she stretched causing the bodies around her to shift.
“Mate? Are you well?” Sesshomaru said fully awake now.
“Yes. Training went well. I will return tonight.” She told him. Sesshomaru allowed her to turn and stare into his eyes. “Thank you for stepping out of your traditions to warm me up last night. If there is anything I can do to say thank you…” She trailed off realizing it was kinda stupid to offer.
“Thank you for your offer. I will think on it. It is past high sun and I am in need of taking care of some business. You will rest for the day and spend time with the children.”
“Alright, can we have lunch together in a couple of hours?”
”We will see.”
Kagome looked into the golden eyes that seemed to just stare into her soul. She smiled and reached out to quickly lick his nose. The face he made was between shock and horror. Kagome giggled and did it again barely getting away as he playfully growled and tried to bite her tongue. “We will finish this later.” He vowed before leaving the bed in one swift motion. His fell back into it's regular form showing no emotion. Kagome watched him with a cold chill. He left moments later moving with power down the halls and into his office.
Kagome felt more aware of everything. It felt like she had just gotten over an illness that blocked her senses. She tested the new feeling and was surprised that she could feel almost the whole Western territory. Pulling her power back she smiled as Shippo and Rin began to wake.
“Come on my little Love's it's time to wake.” Kagome cooed.
“Don't wanna.” Shippo groaned covering his eyes.
Kagome raised an eyebrow and grinned wickedly. Her hands hovered above the kitsune a second before the attacked his sides. He screamed himself wide-awake also waking Rin in the process. Kagome stopped her assault after she was sure he was awake.
“You need a bath.” Kagome smiled picked the boy up and grabbing the squealing Rin. She carried both into the washroom and laid them on the floor. They quickly evacuated their clothes and dived into the steaming water. Someone had replaced her bathing necessities and put them where they belonged.
 
Shippo, Rin and her all trooped to the study three hours later. Kagome had given a handful of servants the day off after seeing they were cleaning areas that were already clean. Jaken had of course complained but she hurried him away saying he could spend the remainder of the day out by the pond relaxing. She had smiled secretly at him and winked knowing he would go out there and sleep. He didn't argue much after her `order'.
Rin carried a basket of food and Shippo carried another basket holding a bottle of tea and the cups. Kagome herself led both children with a smile through the halls to her mate, whom she knew what overworking.
Sesshomaru was leaning over a scroll as they entered with little warning. Only their auras told him they were entering.
“It is polite to knock first.” He said dryly. Kagome shrugged and motioned the kids in.
“We have come baring lunch.” She walked over to his desk pulled the scroll away, rolled it up and set it back down. “You're taking a break.”
”This one does not have the time to `take a break'.”
”You do and you will. Your children wish to have lunch with you, you will accept.” Kagome gave him a glare much colder then anything he could muster up. He let out a `hn' and left his desk.
Shippo had laid out a blanket and began placing the cups from his basket. He appeared timid when Sesshomaru came towards them. He finished setting up and stood to bow and the demon Lord.
“Lord Sesshomaru, I wish to ask a question.” Kagome glared at the boy.
“Not now Shippo.” She hissed.
“What will you ask this one?” Sesshomaru cut her off.
Kagome made slicing motions across her throat behind her mate's back trying to get Shippo to stop.
“You have mated to woman I see as my mother. She adopted me, feed me and protected me. Like what my birth mother would have done should she not have been killed. Kagome has been there and after these years I see her as my mother now in every way but blood. As her mate I wish to ask, will you be my father?” Shippo bowed not wanting to really see what the demon Lord would do.
Kagome let out a sigh, “Alright Rin, since Shippo started, say your piece.”
The little girl smiled and nodded. She stood in front of her Lord and began, “Lord Sesshomaru had adopted this Rin, this Rin would like to ask if Lady Mother Kagome can be this Rin's mother?” The girl bowed in respect.
Sesshomaru stood frozen in place. Both questions had been asked with full seriousness much to the frame of what his generals asked. However their questions were anything but an easy dismissal. He looked back at Kagome them at the children in front of him. Unsure of what to really say he turned to his Mate. “Mate?”
”They have thought long and hard on these questions. Shippo and Rin have both told me how they feel. Shippo knows that by not being blood he cannot become your heir unless you announce it. Rin understands that should you allow it I am only an adoptive mother and am also not blood. They understand what they are asking and wish nothing from you or I, only wish to have the ability to address us as Mother and Father in private and with titles in public. Neither is uneducated, you have made sure of it and so have I. Answer them yourself as you wish Sesshomaru.” She left him to finish setting up.
Both children remained bowing as he thought another minute. “You have addressed this one with respect. This one will accept your wishes.”
Rin was the first to pop up. “Rin thanks you Lord Sesshomaru.” She turned and finished helping her `new' mother set up lunch.
Shippo raised and addressed his `father' again. “I also thank you Lord Sesshomaru. I will try to reflect well on your image.” He bowed again.
“Your mother has told me it is your choice to decide your own fate. You have proven you are wise kit. I offer you the chance to train as this one has, to become a warrior.”
Shippo looked back at Kagome. Again she spoke. “Look Shippo, in the four years we have been together I have taught you what is right and what is wrong. As a kitsune you like to push those boundaries. But I trust you to always make the right decision. If you wish to learn, I will support you, I will even help if I can. This is your choice, not mine.”
Shippo looked back at the man in front of him. “I will train.” He tone was firm and final.
“Your training will start the day after tomorrow.” Sesshomaru nodded and led the kit to lunch.
 
Sesshomaru sat behind his desk. Kagome, Shippo and Rin had left only moments ago. The scroll in front of him had held his attention for most of the morning and the break had been a welcome. His uncle, to say the least, was unhappy with his mating and demanded, as his `elder', to be allowed into the territory to `access' his new mate. That was the summery of it excluding that fact that if he didn't agree then there would be war. However, Sesshomaru caught a underlying meaning to the demand. Never in the years of his uncle's exile had he been allowed back into the lands, this `assessment' could and might be all his uncle needed to try and take reign of the territory. He was unhappy with the demands.
Kagome chose that moment to return. “I know you're busy, but something told me I was needed here. If that makes any sense.” She blushed as he looked up.
“You are correct.” He placed a barrier and motioned her over.
“Why do you do that? Place a barrier them let yourself relax.”
”It is sound proof, only you can hear what I say. Also, nothing can come in unless I want it too. With you in here nothing is able to stop your moment if I wish it.”
”Oh. So what is wrong?”
”As expected my uncle has sent a message demanding to meet you. He has heard of you and I believe he is using you to get back into Western Lands to try and take over.”
”Oh, but can't you just say no?” Kagome placed one hand on his chair and the other on the desk looking down at the scroll.
“I could if I could get someone older then him or of higher rank to veto his presence. However there is no one to summon for such a deed.”
“Would your father work?”
“Kagome, his resurrection will take months, I have weeks to respond.” Sesshomaru leaned into her side placing his ear almost against her stomach but not quite. Her smell now showed she was pregnant, something was different about the smell though. He shrugged it off, she was after all very different.
“If I train hard enough I might be able to get far enough I can maybe get your father back sooner. I don't know everything I have to do but I can ask. You make it sound like this guy is evil, your hesitation and anger is enough for me to understand he is bad news.”
”I don't want you to force to much on yourself Kagome, it would be helpful to have him back, but it will also create problems that I have only bean to figure out how to fix…” He trailed off hoping she didn't press.
“We may not have ever gotten alone Sesshomaru but a part of me trusts you and that is good enough.” She placed a hand on his head. “I will return to the children, tonight I will sleep and train and try to help fix problems that I have in part caused.” She held a formal tone that was too close to other court members.
“You do not sound yourself Mate.” He warned.
Kagome sighed. “Sorry, it's just everyone wants me to act this way or that way and it's hard. I don't want to be so nice that if something happens I get walked over, but I don't want to be so cruel I am feared and even hated…” Two tears slipped from her eyes. “It's stressful and then I worry if I'm ready to be a mother, and if I'll let you down somehow…” Her tears came faster.
“You worry too much.” He pulled away and stood to take her in his arms. “Things will fall into place. You must wait for it to be and not rush. Relax, be happy in our home.”
”Say that when we wake up at all hours of the night to a whiny little brat of a pup who is either hungry or just pooped.” She teased.
Sesshomaru thought about it and cringed. Maybe he should rethink about relocating. She had yet to even reach the mood swings he had observed in other pregnant females.
