InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Forbidden ❯ Trainwreck ( Chapter 12 )
A/N: yes, I made inuyasha call Kikyo, Kagome on purpose. By the way, all of the places the characters go in this story except Tokyo are made-up cities
Rin pressed the earphones onto her ears and switched the songs to the next one on the track. She and Kanna had made it to the train station outside of Tokyo and were on their way to Cienna, a small and unknown town that wasn't on the map. They had brought their tickets and were waiting for the train to pull up. Kanna was sitting down quietly playing with her hair, while she listened to the extra CD player Rin had brought with her. The station was unusually empty except for a few homeless people and stragglers. Rin meant to use a public train, but this seemed more like a private train. Just as she was having second thoughts, the old-fashioned looking steamer rolled up. The conductor was hanging from the window watching the few people run in. Rin grabbed Kanna and they boarded, took a seat and waited. Once everyone was on and secure, the conductor retreated to the front of the train. Finally, Rin had to ask. She got up and walked to the train's front where the conductor sat preparing for the ride.
"Excuse me sir." She said in her lowest voice. The man turned around and looked at the child surprisingly. He was strange looking with a small white moustache and white hair that curled around his ears but none on top of his head.
"Just call me Myouga." He interrupted. Rin nodded her head, rushing him.
"Okay, Myouga, Why is this train so empty?"
"Oh, you must be new son. This here is the Old Steamer, unless you're blind or retarded and you didn't notice that this was an old 1930's type train; not many people like to go the old way anymore. Naw they're too much into those new electronic trains. Besides, it was only used to transport the rich Japanese nobles, Usually after they got of the boat from the American gold rush. Wouldn't be surprised if there was still some gold stuck underneath the floorboards. Speaking of, you should get back into ur seat young man." He pointed behind him and Rin left with glee on her face. As soon as she sat down, the train started and they were off.
"He called me son, and young man. My disguise actually worked! I'm so excited! We're on our way to save Kagome!" she squirmed in her chair for a few seconds, and then finally settled down.
"Kagome is a milkjugger right?" Kanna asked. Rin cocked an eyebrow at Kanna's question.
"A what? What's a milkjuggler?"
"My uncle used to call these pretty women to come over and he would stick his thingy into their thingies. Then when he was done, he'd pay them." Rin tried to hide a giggle as Kanna talked, but it came out anyway.
"Kanna, you mean a prostitute? No, Kagome isn't why do you ask?"
"In my vision I saw her being used as a prostitute but she didn't get paid."
"Oh no, they're using her for sex! She must be hating every bit of her life right now." Rin stayed quiet thinking about all of the torture and pain they were giving Kagome. She had to get to her, she just had to. I'm coming for you Kagome, don't worry I'm coming to save you. She sat and thought about their next move until something popped into her head. The conductor said there still might be some gold left on the train. Kanna and I need that money for our traveling. Gotta go see if there's gold in the other compartments. After a few minutes Rin's butt started to hurt, due to the hard wooden seats. She decided to get up and walk around. The train was pretty small since most of it was carrying stuff, but what? She checked to see if the conductor was looking behind her and quickly walked to the second compartment, which was completely empty. Beyond that compartment was nothing. There was a wooden door with a window that showed the rest of the train and the link that kept the cargo and the compartments together. I wonder what's in the cargo? Rin opened the door briefly; checked as far as she could see, then shut it. If I'm going to do this, I have to have Kanna with me. She headed back to the first compartment and took hold of Kanna's hand.
"C'mon Kanna, we're going to go check out the other compartments." She pulled the confused girl out of her seat and they walked together through the opening of the two rooms. Once inside, she rushed to the door and looked outside again.
"Kanna, do you want to do something fun?" the little girl nodded. Rin smiled and put her hand on the knob. Slowly she turned it and the door was flung open by a sudden rush of wind and rain. A tough storm had started and the sky was flashing.
"Kanna, I'm going to go across first." She yelled over the wind. Kanna held onto the doorframe as Rin pushed herself to slide down to the links. It was extremely narrow and Rin was deathly afraid of falling so she grabbed it and began to slink across them. When she had gotten to the end, she let go and grabbed onto the edge of the cargo box.
"Now you go!" she shouted. Rin then saw another thing that Kanna could do. Instead of crawling across, she flew! Hovering a bit above the link she made her way across, and then went higher and landed on top of the cargo box.
"Or you could do that." She said when she landed, "Alright, we're going to go to the second cable box, and then we go back, I'm just really curious." Rin took Kanna's hand and together they walked quietly on top of the train. They made their way to the middle of the box where there was a door facing upwards. Rin got down on her hands and knees and took hold of the brass knob attached to it.
"Alright Kanna, I'm going to pull this open, hold onto me!" Kanna did as she was told and threw her arms around Rin's waist. Rin shouted too three slowly and loudly and right when she reached three she yanked open the door. The wind did half the job for her and she and Kanna were almost blown off the train. She grabbed onto the edge of the square-shaped hole and pulled herself towards it.
"Okay, I want you to grab a hold and jump in!" she yelled as pellets of water hit her face. Kanna grabbed onto the edge, and then slid in carefully. Rin waited until she was sure hit the ground before following in pursuit. It wasn't until light disappeared from the room that Rin realized she forgot to tie the door open.
"Shit! I can't see jack!" Rin stood right where she was, afraid that she would bump into something.
"Kanna?" she said out loud. Rin started to move forward, with her hands out in front of her.
"Kanna? Answer me if you can hear me!" Rin shouted even louder than before. Her heart was beating faster now and she started to sweat uncontrollably. She finally felt something that was soft, and closed her hands around it. A loud squeak of surprise sent Rin on her back in surprise.
"Oww." The squeak was a low and rough voice now. Rin got back on her feet, her heart now almost about to explode.
"Sorry about that Kanna. Didn't mean to hurt you." Rin bent over to catch her breath.
"Kanna? Who's Kanna?" the voice asked back.
"Don't play stupid with me." Rin replied a little suspicious.
"Seriously, I don't know who the hell you're talkin' about. My name is Kohaku."
"Kohaku? Oh, I'm sorry. You must be a stowaway. Did you happen to see a friend of mine? A little boy with short white hair in gray overalls?"
"Yea actually, even though she was a girl. Bad disguise. Well anyway she sort of disappeared. Dropped down here, then just disappeared out of thin air."
"Great, she bailed out on me."
"Where were you guys heading?" Rin thought about this question for a moment and whether she should lie or be truthful.
"Oh, we were going to Cienna to visit a cousin of mine. What about you?"
"I'm running away."
"To where?"
"I'm trying to find my big sister."
"Oh, do you have any idea where she might be?"
"Not at all. All I know is that when she was taken away she went with some rich family."
"Really? I might know her. I live in the rich section of Tokyo."
"Okay. Her name is Sango. I don't even think she would remember me since we were separated when we were very young. I was three and she was nine."
"Oh my god! That bitch! She told me she was an only child!"
"You know her!?"
"Yea, she's my friend, and my neighbor."
"Take me to her please!"
"I can't Kohaku."
"Why not?"
"Well, I'm heading in the opposite direction and I have a time limit."
"Shit!"
"Hey, I'll make you a deal."
" What?"
"The truth is that my friend Kagome got kidnapped a while ago and Kann and I were on our way to save her. We have to make it to South Tokyo in three days. If you help me, I'll help you." Kohaku didn't even think about it.
"Deal!"
"Great, now-," suddenly the train rocked from side to side violently. The cargo started to shift downwards. Rin and Kohaku went flying backwards, just as the cargo slammed against them.
