Chapter 27~Fame?

~~~Kagome had gotten up late and had hurridly dressed to get to work on time. She hadnt had time to eat breakfast, much less anything else. So when she walked through the office building towards the elevator, she was a bit thrown off by the way she was getting looks from sone of the people milling about in the huge lobby of the building. She didnt know why she was getting looks or saw grins or smiles on thier faces, but she soon found out when she entered the office and heard heated voices coming from her bosses office. She heard the voice of Sesshoumaru, but she also heard the voice of Inuyasha. A tingly feeling started in her belly at the sound of his voice and the memories of the awsome kiss the night before. Part of her still gnawed at the thought that she might of made a mistake no going back to his place. But this was not the time to think about that. Right now she had to get to work and mind her own business.

"What were you thinking Inuyasha?" came Sesshoumaru's irritated voice as he again glanced at the picture in the newspaper of the society page. A huge picture of Inuyasha and Kagome kissing outside of the club they had gone to last night was front and center with the captions..'Millionaire playboys newest Conquest?' then below another caption that said..'whos the mystery woman?'

"What does it look like I was thinking Sess?" Inu growled, shredding the paper in front of them. How could he have been so careless. How could he forget that there was alot of perverted journalists out there that loved to follow him and plaster the papers with his exploits.

"It is clear of your intentions Inu, but what were you thinking to make such a public display?" Sess asked in a aggrivated growl. He was used to Inu's face being plastered in the papers, but he wasnt happy that his new assistant was also plastered on it with him.

"I fucking forgot about the damn photographers!" yelled Inu in irratation. Just his luck. kagome was going to kill him when she saw this. He knew her enough to know she didnt care for the spot light, and what the paper was implying would not sit well with her. it would only make her more eager to keep her distance. Fucking papers and nosey photographers, he growled.

~~~Across town in a ritzy part of the city, high in a penthouse suite, loud crashes and yelling could be heard. Kikyo sat in the bathroom cringing in fear as she heard Hojo going nuts over the picture he had seen in the morning paper. She had only seen him this angry one other time, the night that he had tried to bail Kagome out of jail, only to be rejected. That night Kikyo had gotten her first beating, in fact she was still recovering from it. No matter how much she had cried or begged him to stop, he had hit and slapped her mercilessly, telling her that if she ever interfered with him and Kagome again that he would kill her. She had had no doubt that he would do just that. She had heard of his temper and had heard the rumors of how he had treated his other women, including Kagome. But she had never in a million years believed that he would subject HER to such cruelty. She had thought herself better than all the other women who had come before her. After all, she was the one he was going to marry. She was his fiancee, and surely he would treat her with more respect than his previous sluts. How wrong the had been.

Kikyo cringed when she heard something else being slammed into the wall. A peice of furniture from the sound of it. What was his obesession with kagome? Why her? Why that plain, uncivilized girl? What was it about her that made him want her so badly? Even knowing she would be his wife, Hojo had made it clear that he was not giving up on Kagome. That even if they were married, he was in love with Kagome. As far as Hojo was concerned he was only marrying her to please his father, and he told Kikyo as much. He had told her that she better settle for power and riches, because thats all he would give her, his heart belonged to Kagome. That bitch. Kikyo never hated anyone more than she hated Kagome. Always Kagome. Kagome, Kagome, Kagome! Her whole life had been plagued by this inferior girl. Kikyo blamed Kagome for her beatings, blamed her for the life she was destined to live with Hojo. Kikyo wished she could just leave Hojo like she wanted to. But he had threatened to hurt her if she did. She was his fathers choice as a bride, and untill he succeeded in taking over his fathers company, he would do anything to appease his father, even marry her against her will.

"Kagome you Bitch!...I swear...I swear upon my last breath I will make you pay for all of this." she cursed into the air in a harsh whisper. She didnt dare speak it to loudly. If Hojo heard, he would no doubt take out his anger upon her once again.

~~~Hojo slammed another peice of funiture against the wall in his rage. That BITCH! He cried out in hatred. When he had seen the morning paper and the picture of her and Takahashi kissing in front of the newest night club he had gone ballistic. How dare that bitch betray him like this! How dare Inuyasha think to take what was HIS! He would make them pay. He would see to it that he destroyed Inuyasha Takahashi and punish Kagome for betraying him. No matter what he was going to make them both pay and pay dearly for this.

~~~Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru were still in Sess' office when they heard a shriek from outside. Both got up and rushed to the door, only to open it and see Kagome staring at the paper, her eyes wide, her face red. Sesshoumaru walked back into his office, not wanting to witness what might happen between his assistant and his brother. He would allow this personal exchange during business hours, for this time. After all, what good would it do to let it linger and wait?

~~~Inuyasha walked up to Kagome and looked very very worried. Again he cursed internaly the parantage of the paparatzi<sp?>. He hated the sticken look on Kagome's face and wished he could make it go away.

"Kagome?" he dared to call to her. She snapped her head up and looked at him with a bit of fear. That made Inu frown.

"Oh Gods Inuyasha Im..Im sooooo sorry!" she replied apologeticly. Now Inu was confussed.

"Huh?"

"Omg this must be sooooo humiliatting for you...to have people think..to have them think that..we're...that we're...together....it must be so embarrasing for you." she replied sadly and Inu was now totally pissed.

"What the fuck are you talking about?" he growled.

"I know that you..we..well that it was in the heat of the moment and all...that you regret last night...I never wanted to cause you any shame..now..now the world thinks that you and I are an item and...well Im sorry." she stammered.

"Are you insane?? Who the fuck said I was regretting last night?" he roared.

"Well maybe your not regretting it but Im sure you dont want anyone to think your intrested in me as more than friends or a lover...the paper makes it sound like we are an item and I know that must upset you."

"You are insane arent you? Kagome you have no idea how I feel about you, and what the hell do you take me for?? If I had any intrest in you as just a lay I would of taken you home last night and fucked your brains out...you and I both know thats not what happened...I told you that I wanted our first time to be special...does that sound like someone who has no intrest in you? Someone who wasnt considering maybe on a relationship with you? I didnt push last night because I care about how you feel...I didnt want to force you do anything you werent ready for...I WANT a relationship with you, but till your more comfortable about it, and willing to take a chance on me then I will wait...I dont give a fuck what the papers say, I never have, I only worry about how it makes you feel..your not used to the spotlight and all the stupid things people will say about you if your with me...I hate the fact that some stupid morons who couldnt mind thier own business might make it impossible for you to trust me..to give me a chance." Inu stated with a heated glaze. It wasnt a declaration of love but it was as close to one as he was willing to go right now. he didnt want to freak her out and scare her away for sure.

"Your not mad?..you..you were worried about my feelings?" Kagome asked in shock, trying to absorb everything Inuyasha had just confessed. He cared about her. How much he hadnt said, but it was more than lust or friendship, he had made that clear enough. Her heart raced at his words and the look he was giving her. God she wanted to just jump up and wrap her arms around him and kiss him till they both couldnt breath. She cared about he, that was clear to her, but was she ready? Could she take the chance on falling in love with him? Gods she didnt know. She was scared.

"Dont worry Kagome im not pushing you for any sort of answer now...I just wanted you to know how I feel...and that Im sorry you got caught up in the insanity that is my life." Inu told her, seeing the hope, then the fear in her eyes. Dammit she was still affraid to take a chance on him. That hurt, but he understood it. He just wished like hell he knew how to prove to her, that he wouldnt hurt her.

"Thank you Inu..." she replied with a sigh as she looked down at the picture of them kissing and wondered if she could ever risk her heart again. God she wanted to. She wanted to know what it was like to be Inuyasha's girlfriend. But she was really really scared. It was stupid she knew, but she had found it better to be alone and want than to be with someone and get hurt. Now she was confussed. She had alot of thinking to do, and soon. She couldnt expect Inu to wait forever for her to grow a spine.
