Chapter 6
Gone?
“What about when the jewel back together? What after that? How long will I be able to stay in the past?”
Inuyasha didn't say anything for awhile. “Shut up with ya? We will worry about that when the time comes, until then just don't think about it.” Kagome sighed as she looked back at the sunset.
Soon the sun had disappeared, almost looking as if it never to return. Leaving the world in eternal darkness. “Come on Kagome, we should be heading back now,” Inuyasha said getting up.
“Yeah, let's change first.”
When Kagome came into her room the night before they had to leave again to go to the Feudal era, she found Inuyasha starring out her window.
“Kagome, when we battle Naraku, I want you to stay behind,” he said not looking at her.
“But,” she began only to be interrupted.
“No!” he yelled. “Damn it, I don't know what I'd do if I lost you.” His voice got quite, “I almost did. And I won't give him the chance again.” He still didn't look at her. His body tensed ready for her to the `word', but it never came, instead he felt her arms around his shoulders.
“I'll stay behind, but you better come back to me,” she whispered into his ears. He turned around and looked at her.
“Promise? No matter what happens to me?”
“What will happen to you?” she asked.
He pulled away from her embrace, “Promise?” he asked looking deep into her chestnut eyes. This time she answered her question and shook her head in agreement. He pulled her back into his arms and held her.
“Come on Kagome!” yelled an impatient Inuyasha from beside the well.
“I am coming!” she yelled back. She said goodbye to her family and walked over to Inuyasha. He grabbed her hand and they jumped through the well together. Inuyasha lifted Kagome out of the well once the reached the other side.
“We need to find the others,” Kagome said.
“Yeah, they are not too far away,” he replied.
“Inuyasha and Kagome should be back soon,” Miroku said.
“Yeah, but when?” Shippo cried.
“They'll be back soon don't worry,” Sango replied.
Miroku stood up, “In fact, they're back.”
Shippo jumped up, “Really?” He looked around franticly seeing no sign of them anywhere. “Where?” he asked.
“They are just around the corner,” Miroku pointed out. And, soon enough, Inuyasha and Kagome came walking around the corner.
“Hey guys!” Kagome yelled. Once Inuyasha and Kagome reached the rest of the group she said, “Sit down! We have a lot to tell you guys.” So they told everyone what they found out about Naraku. While Miroku and Inuyasha were talking Sango went over to Kagome and asked, “Hey wanna go to the springs?” Kagome shook her head.
“We're going to the hot springs, we'll be back soon,” Kagome told the guys.
“Er…sure,” Miroku said.
“Ehh,” Inuyasha said.
“Kagome, did Inuyasha mark you?” Sango asked noticing the crescent moon on her body.
Kagome deeply blushed, “Yeah.” She then noticed Sango looked depressed as she sat down in the water.
“Kagome, I am in a mess and don't know what to do,” Sango whispered.
“What is it?” Kagome asked sitting next to her. Sango was quite for a minute but soon tears started flowing from her eyes. “It is okay Sango, you can tell me. I won't tell anyone, promise,” Kagome reassured her.
Sango took a deep breath. “I…I…I am…” she paused. “I'm pregnant!” she blurted out followed by even more tears.
Kagome stunned by what she just heard, but soon came back. “Sango…that is…….WONDERFUL!” she yelled. “Have you told Miroku yet?” Kagome asked guessing the father. Sango shook her head. “Are you going to?” She received the same answer. “Sango, you need to tell him.”
“I…*sniffle*…don't…know…*breathe* 8230;what to say.”
“You need to tell him soon. We are going after Naraku either today or tomorrow.” She gave Sango a hug. “Don't worry it will all be okay.”
“I'll tell him in time, in my one words.”
“Okay but soon Sango,” Kagome said. “Come on lets go back to the guys.”
“Yeah, okay,” Sango said wiping the tears from her eyes. They walked back to the guys in silence after they redressed. They stopped talking when they arrived. Inuyasha smiled as Kagome walked over to him.
“Hey,” he said as she sat down in his lap.
“Hey yourself,” she replied.
“You know we should get going, the sooner the better.”
“Yeah, I know.” She looked over at Sango and Miroku. He was trying to talk to her, but she was starring off into her own world. Kagome got up from Inuyasha's lap not wanting to.
“Come on you two, we need to get going,” Inuyasha said. Sango walked ahead with Kagome, while Miroku stay far behind with Inuyasha.
“Do you know what is wrong with Sango?” Miroku asked.
“……,” no answer.
“Inuyasha please, is Sango alright?”
“……,” still no answer. Being a dog-demon, Inuyasha could smell people's scent, he knew that Sango was going to have Miroku's child. `Sango needs to tell him, not you,' he said to himself.
“*sighs* Alright, I see you are not going to tell me anything. Can you tell me is she is going to be alright?”
“……,” no reply came from Inuyasha's mouth. Miroku sighed and kept walking.
“We are about a day away,” Inuyasha said as he looked up at the mountains. They stopped to make camp for the night. The sun was already gone when they all sat down by the fire. Kagome in Inuyasha'' lap with Sango on one side of them and Miroku on the other side. Shippo, sad because he wasn't with Kagome, sat with Kirara. Something was on Inuyasha's mind. He had not told Kagome the whole truth about the mating. He bent down into her hair, “We need to talk,” he whispered. Kagome understood. Both of the got up and walked into the forest.
“Yeah, Inuyasha?”
He sat down pulling her with him. “I didn't tell you the whole truth about the mark,” he said. “You see, I will live longer than mush longer than you, so,” he paused. “And there is more. I have marked you but have not claimed you.”
“……” Kagome said nothing.
Inuyasha continued, “You see, the mark will be final when we…huh…mate.”
“Mate? Oh you mean when we have sex?”
Inuyasha looked nervous. “Yeah, then after that you'll live longer, with me,” he sighed. “And, until we mate, any demon can take you.”
“What about the mark?”
“Some, well most, demons don't care.
“…,” no reply, but she moved closer to his warm body. “I understand,” she said. “But, can we wait? Until I am ready?” Inuyasha smiled.
“Yeah,” he whispered softly. But then Inuyasha felt the presence of a demon.
“How sweet. It is a shame that I have to kill you Inuyasha,” came a familiar voice. Kagome gashed as she saw how it was. “Naraku,” she whispered. Inuyasha lifted Kagome and placed her behind him. “What do you want?” Kagome asked.
Naraku laughed. “I came here for you,” he said with an evil grin.
“Well to bad, you're not going to lay a hand on her,” Inuyasha said.
“But she will be mine,” he said. “After you are out of the way, she will be mine.”
Kagome rolled her eyes, “I'd like to see you try,” Kagome whispered under her breath.
“If you want her so much, why did you try to kill her?” Inuyasha asked angrily.
“Oo yes, that poison was not meant for her, but for you Inuyasha. She was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“You bastard! Kagome get out of here, remember your promise!” he yelled. Kagome started to run away. Miroku and Sango soon appeared coming through the trees. Inuyasha pulled out the Tetsusaiga as Naraku went for Kagome, “You won't lay a finger on her!” he said running toward Naraku. But Inuyasha tried to hit him forgetting about the barrier. While being blown back, his sword turned red and he attacked Naraku again. Naraku, being taken off guard, was hit by the attack after Inuyasha's sword broke through the barrier. But he soon recovered from the attack to see Sango he peered at her. `Something is different about her…what is it?' he asked himself. But, she then put her hand to her stomach, at that moment Naraku knew what was different. “Hmm, interesting,” he said. Kagome stopped running, but Inuyasha yelled at her. “Get out of here! Take Sango with you!” At that she ran over to her good friend and dragged her into the forest. But they stopped so they could watch. “He knows!” Sango cried.
“Who?” said Kagome, trying to catch her breath.
“Naraku, he knows about the baby!” She fell to the ground. Kagome looked back at the battle before trying to soothe Sango. Miroku and Inuyasha were both fighting Naraku.
“Don't worry Sango. Everything will be okay.” She said to Sango. Then Kagome yelled for Kirara. “Take Sango away from here, but try to stay close.” Once they were gone, Kagome fell to the floor already tired. She got back up remembering her promise and started to run father away.
“HA! You two can not beat me!” Naraku said, as Miroku attacked him with his staff. Then Naraku's body changed, legs started to grow out of his back. (these legs are more like spider legs….uhh…I can't explain it that well so bare with me…) Inuyasha was taken off guard and one of the legs punched straight through his chest. He heard Kagome scream his name from the forest. Naraku was about to strike Inuyasha again but a blue light blew all the legs to pieces. Inuyasha knew how it was. “How nice of you to help Sesshormaru,” Inuyasha said getting from the ground.
“Hai, hello little brother,” Sesshormaru said.
Miroku on the other hand was still battling Naraku. “A little help guys!” he said in between jumps. Sesshormaru and Inuyasha looked at Naraku, whom had grown his extra spider legs.
“Look I can take care the whole family at once,” laughed Naraku.
“Like you could,” Sesshormaru coldly. He knew he had to work with Inuyasha no matter how much he didn't want to. “Inuyasha, we must work together.”
“What?!” asked Inuyasha in confusion. But at that time Naraku stabbed Miroku like he did to Inuyasha. Time seemed to stop as Miroku fell to the ground.
“Miroku!” came a voice. Sango quickly came to the ground, got off Kirara's back, and ran over to Miroku. Blood was all over the grass and his robes. He smiled up at Sango. “Stay with me Miroku,” Sango pleaded. She pulled his head into her lap and put her hand through his hair. “I love you,” she said tears coming down her face.
“I'll always be with you Sango,” he gasped for air and from the pain. “Don't worry Inuyasha and Kagome will take care of you.”
“What are you talking about? You are going to take care of me,” she bit her lip. Miroku closed his eyes. “Miroku? Come on, get up,” she cried. “Wake up, Please!” Sango fell onto his body crying heavily.
Inuyasha turned to Naraku who was enjoying himself at the sight. Inuyasha looked very mad. “You will pay,” he said. He looked at his brother, “Ready?” he asked. Sesshormaru didn't say a word but moved forward with Inuyasha. The both started to fight Naraku. But, Naraku couldn't keep up with both powerful brothers at the same time. Sesshormaru noticed at one point Naraku was off guard and he attacked with his sword, Inuyasha followed. Both attacks hit Naraku at the same time. Naraku yelled but soon was blown away, leaving no piece of him left. Sesshormaru looked around, he knew Kagome wasn't far away, his gaze stopped at crying woman holding the monks body. He felt his sword pulse but ignored it.
Inuyasha walked over to Sango. “Come on Sango there is nothing we can do for him now.” She looked up at him.
“He's gone! I didn't even telling him that I am pregnant!” she cried.
Inuyasha bent down. “No, he is not gone. He lives in you and in your baby,” he replied softly. Sango fell into his arms crying. Sesshormaru looked down at his brother.
“Inuyasha, Naraku is dead. Do not think we will fight on the same side again,” he then started to walk away, he again felt his sword pulse.
Something then came to Inuyasha's head. “Wait!”
