*******************Present Day*****************

Kagome sat thinking silently to herself.

It's been so long since I've seen Miroku or Sango or....

It had been 3 years since They had gotten married and It had been that long since she had been to the Fuedal Era. She had been so busy preparing for college and she was finally there and now she couldn't concentrate. She stared at her school books and was a little scared about her first class. She started to think that maybe she should have waited to go to college instead of being so impulsive. She thought of Inuyasha.

*******************Flashback*****************

Inuyasha watched as Kagome walked toward the well. "Kagome wa wait" Inuyasha stuttered.

Kagome just kept walking not even turning around. Finally as she reached the well she turned.

"Inuyasha, I have missed so much school and I need to go back." She turned and jumped down the well.

****************************

I need to go back, I miss Inuyasha

The thought was so sudden that it surprised her. She had knew that she would miss them all but she hadn't expected to miss Inuyasha above them all. "My school is more important" she told herself. But Inuyasha...

"No" she said aloud. "I need to think about school."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The teacher was dragging on and on.
Kagome's thoughts wandered back to Inuyasha and the gang again.
How she missed them. What are they doing? she wondered.
"Kagome. Kagome."
Her name being called snapped her back to attention.
"Ye-yes?" was all she could mutter.
"Please step out in the hall if you cannot pay attention"
She couldn't believe it. The teacher was throwing her out of class! It was her first day and she had been humilated because she couldn't keep her mind off Inuyasha.
She fumed silently as she walked out of the classroom followed by the laughing of her classmates.
Everyone will know. I'm a freshman and this will follow me all over campus.
I'm such a fool I should of been paying attention.
Kagome just walked to her room and closed the door as if she could close the door and shut off the world.
*******************Feudal Era*****************
Inuyasha sat in front of Kaede's hut and sighed. Over the last 3 years he had resisted the urge to go and find Kagome. He just couldn't believe he had done that. He had treated Kagome as if she belonged to him and that her home was with him. As if she was property. He realized after that that was what Kouga had done to her, treated her as if she were property and nothing else. That was why she had left, she felt as if he were smothering her. She had used the school bit to cover up how she was feeling and to have an excuse to get away from him.
Even the wedding didn't stop Miroku and Sango from giving me a piece of their minds. Where is Kagome? I didn't think that she could stay this mad at me for this long.
"Where is Kagome?" Kaede had asked. "Why do you always come back when you two are fighting? How long is it going to last this time?" Keh she can be so so I don't know what she is!!
Inuyasha fought silently within himself. His internal conflict tearing him apart. He needed to see Kagome! He needed to hold her in his eyes, He needed to hear her voice.
I don't know if I can apologize to her or if it will even make a difference.
If she can stay mad at me for so long what can I do to apologize, What do I say? Maybe I should ask Kaede.
The thought of asking Kaede for advice about this made him angry. He remembered the last time and how she had scolded him for not apologizing and procrastinating for so long.
You should not have let it drag out this long she says. Like she knows anything! I don't need to ask anything from anybody! If Kagome doesn't want to come back that's her problem not mine! I don't need to sit around and wait for her to come back. I'm wasting time sitting here thinking of that wench!
Kaede watched Inuyasha get up from in the front of the yard and storm off. She sat thinking about where he was going at this time of night and hoped he was not going to get in trouble. Maybe he was going to apologize to Kagome and bring her back, but at this time of night? She sighed and went back in the hut to go to sleep. He can work this out on his own. If he needed help he would have come to her.
He'll be back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sango and Miroku watched the sun set as they talked about things of the past and the future. Their daughter was running around in the front yard. Sango called her in from the yard. "Mina it's getting dark, come to mommy."

It was such a change from the way things used to be. So quiet and peaceful.

Too peaceful

Sango was preparing their dinner when Miroku finally came inside and just stood in the doorway.

"Sango, do you ever wish things were the way they used to be? Traveling around with Shippo and Kagome and Inuyasha. Life was so invigorating." Sango looked at him and considered what he had just spoken. "Not that it's not now." He replyed quickly. She laughed at the way he corrected himself because he thought he had made a wrong statement. "I know what you meant. I miss the adventures and the danger as well. But you know if we had not beaten Naraku then you would still have your Windtunnel. But you don't and you have no weapon to protect yourself and think about Mina. What would we do with her?" The last part she said so lightly that it was barely audible. Miroku looked over at the 2 year old sleeping near the fireplace and sighed.

She's right. She's always right.

He sat down with a soft thud next to Sango and started to eat the dinner she had just placed in front of him. "I guess things always change and we can never go back to the way we were even if we want to." He replied.

"Thank you" was all she said. They ate in silence and Sango looked at Mina. "Look at how she sleeps so soundly. That's what you call peace. Do you want to jeopardize that?" Miroku just sat in silence and looked away from her.

"I'm going to bed. I'll see you in the morning."

"Goodnight sweetheart." Sango watched him fall asleep and then got up to clear the dishes. She went over to where he was sleeping and layed down beside him and fell asleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miroku woke up to the sound of footsteps. He lay there in silence controling his breathing to listen. No sound came. The only sound he heard was the deep breathing of Sango. He waited for a few minutes and then settled down, figuring it was just a dream and that it was because of the talk he and Sango had earlier. He was starting to doze when he realized that he had not heard Mina breathing. He sat up suddenly and looked around.
Where's Mina!
He woke Sango in a start. "What is it Miroku?" She said sleepily. "Mina's gone!" Sango sat up suddenly and looked around. "Where is she!" Sango yelled shaking Miroku. They got up and ran out the door. Sango went to the right while Miroku went left and searched the yard. Sango was crying when he came around and found his daughter's lifeless body in Sango's arms. It looked as if she had been torn apart. Miroku tried to move but he couldn't. He didn't know what to do and he stood there staring at her holding Mina till morning.
Inuyasha wandered around aimlessly. It started to rain as he tried to gather his thoughts together. Everything seemed to jumble together in his mind - all the disparate, incomplete reasoning, all the emotions that intertwined and colored. They would not sort themselves out for him; they would not arrange themselves in a neat, orderly fashion. They merely shuffled about like stray sheep and he chased after them hopelessly. His thoughts kept going back to how he had acted towards Kagome.
What had he gotten himself into? Why was I such a complete fool? I should have went after her and apologized. I should have given her more space, I should have not let her go or hoped she would come back after she had cooled off. Where is she?
Perhaps he should have given a little more thought to his decision. But it was too late for that now. Too late, as well, for thoughts such as these. He shook his head. There was little point on dwelling on it further. He would be well advised to turn his thoughts in another direction.
He spent the remainder of the day trying unsuccessfully to do so.
The rain turned to drizzle as the day lengthened, then at last died away entirely in the cold gray of early evening. Thunderclouds continued to blanket the skies as nightfall turned from gray to black, and the air filled with mist that wandered at the forest's edge like a child lost. Inuyasha turned towards the village and left his jumbled thoughts behind as the smell of dinner filled his nose. He walked up towards Kaede's hut and stopped. Something didn't fill right, something not human lingered nearby. Inuyasha turned suddenly and saw it, something that didn't seem like it should be here at all, something not of this world, more powerful than anything he had ever encountered. Nothing like Naraku or his brother but something far more foul, far more dangerous and evil. Then Inuyasha noticed that the village was dead quiet and the smell of food was now the smell of untended cooking left to burn overridden with the smell of death. He looked at the thing responsible and it smiled, it's hooked teeth gleaming. It's coming had gone unnoticed until it was too late. What manner of creature is this that could have done something like this without me noticing? Where did it come from?
At a distance, it might have passed for human. It was basically manlike in appearance. He walked upright on two legs. and it's arms were only slightly longer than those of a man. It carried itself stooped over, it's movements hampered by a peculiar hunching motion - but the dark robes that cloaked him made it difficult to tell the cause. It was only when close that one could see clearly the massive hump that crooked the spine almost double at the shoulders. Or the great tufts of greenish hair that protruded from all parts of his body like patches of saw grass. Or the scales that coated its forearms and lower legs, or the hands and feet that ended in claws. Or the vaguely catlike muzzle that was it's face. The eyes, black and shining, deceptively placid on their surface, like twin pools of water that hid something evil and destructive. Once these were seen, there was no longer any question as to the identity of this thing. What was revealed then was not man, but Demon.
Inuyasha lunged after the creature but it seemed to vanish right before his eyes and he hit the ground with a thud. Inuyasha got up and looked for it everywhere, he had run so far that he found himself far from the village and ran back as fast as he could to get back to the village and see who all survived. If there are any survivors. The thought was so raw that it made Inuyasha go faster and he came upon the ruined village at the break of dawn. The smoke coming from every house. The damage was devastating, the smell of blood was so strong that Inuyasha gagged at the smell. There was movement at the far edge where Kaede's hut was, the only hut left standing and it may have been in part to him coming back to the village early, he had saved Kaede's hut and anyone that was left. He ran to Kaede's hut and found seven survivors, all that remained of the village.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Demon smiled at the thought of the previous nights slaughter. Before happening on the delicious village he had found a little girl outside her house. Unsuspecting she was and wanted to make friends, she had touched him and he had not liked it. He had not eaten the child but instead had torn her apart. His name was Dagda Mor. And the Demon hated. He hated with an intensity that bordered on madness. Hundreds of years of imprisonment within the black hold that lay beyond the wall of the Forbidden had given his hatred more than sufficient time to fester and grow. Now it consumed him. It was everything to him. It was what gave him power, and he would use that power to crush the creatures who had caused him so much misery. And even that would not be enough to satisfy him now - not now, not after centuries of being shut from this world that had been once his - shut into that formless, insentient limbo of endless darkness and slow, wretched stagnation.

My vengeance will come, he thought. Just as his freedom had come. He could feel it. He had waited centuries, posted at the wall of the Forbidden, testing it's strength, probing for weakness - all the time knowing that it must, one day, begin to fail. And it had!

The wall had fallen after many tries to bring it down. It had weakened severely 50 years ago but not enough to break down and let anything out. With the magic that he had learned over the years he had been able to break it open for only a short time. It had been a risk for if it had not worked he would have been severely weakened and would have been overcome by the Demons that he commanded with the fear he ensued on them. Slowly he took in the smell of the death that had floated over to him in the air. He waited until the night had come. He heard the small village ahead drift softly toward slumber. He got up and walked toward his unsuspecting victims.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miroku and Sango packed provisions and left to find Inuyasha. Sango had her Hiraikotsu on her back and Miroku had his staff equipped with him. The look in Sango's eyes scared Miroku and he kept quiet, waiting for her to speak. What had befallen them was too much for him to think about. He needed answers and the person responsible, if there was a person. What if it wasn't a person but an animal, how would Sango take that? No what am I thinking, I heard footsteps. But if there were was a person than why were there no footprints outside the house? He couldn't figure this out. He wanted vengeance. He needed vengeance, he needed something to fill the void that made him so empty and made him feel that there was no purpose to him. Why has this happened? What have we done to deserve this? These were the question that he needed answered. They walked until they came upon they village and all the could do was stare. The village totally decimated.
*******************Present Day*****************
Kagome sat alone in her room and wanted to leave this place. She missed the adventures and Inuyasha. She had to go back, she had a bad feeling sweep over her and she needed to find out wat happened. She was packing her bags when Teras walked in. Her roommate looked at her awkwardly. "What are you doing?" she asked Kagome. Kagome looked at her and said "I'm leaving." "Your gonna leave just because the teacher kicked you out on your first day? That's weak." sighed Teras. "No I'm leaving because I need to take care of something."
Teras looked at her with a hint of surprise. "Is there something that happened? Is it your family?" Kagome finished packing and walked past her without saying anything more. She walked down the stairs. Teras walked to the top of the stairs and just looked at her until she couldn't see Kagome anymore.
Kagome reached her house around dark and slipped to the well avoiding her family and their scoldings. She wondered about her rash decision about leaving her school. What would happen when she came back, would she be welcomed back or shunned? Why does it matter? Something has happened and I need to find out what it is. I need to secure the bad feeling that has been haunting me for the past few days. I need to know why I can't get the feudal era out of my mind and why I can't concentrate after all this time. After all this time... Why is it bothering me? It never bothered me this bad to where I can't put it out of my mind until I have the time to think about it. I'm wasting time. I can think about this later.
She jumped down the well that went to the feudal era.
*******************Feudal Era*****************
She became overwhelmed with the smell of death and gagged. She climbed out the well hurriedly and ran through the forest and saw the ruined village. What happened here?She ran towards the village. She found Sango, Miroku, and Kaede and Kaede's hut. Where's Inuyasha?They looked up when she came in and Sango ran to Kagome and Hugged her. Kagome sat down and listened to what had happened. Inuyasha had gone to patrol the village and she heard of Mina's death. She had not known that they had had a daughter and she saw Sango's despair. Inuyasha came into the hut and saw Kagome. "Kagome," he whispered.He looked so surprised and happy and then that drained away when Kaede asked if had found anything. "No I haven't found anything. Kagome why are you here?"
"I came because I felt that something had happened and turned out that I was right. Who did this?" No one said anything. The silence was so deafening. "We don't know" Kaede said suddenly.
For the remainder of the night the group plotted on what to do and speculated on who might have down this. In the end they found nothing to gain ground on but to go investigate. They finally decided that they would head out in the morning. They agreed to get what little sleep they could before the journey.
The little group of four left early in the morning heading towards another village not far from the village that Kaede called home. They reached the village by mid-afternoon and were disgusted by what they saw. Kagome and Sango looked for any survivors but found none. Inuyasha and Miroku poked around the little village looking for clues to as where the Demon had headed. The group gave up and just walked on ahead and didn't look at the disaster. They had already seen enough, there was nothing to see here. They traveled until dusk and then made camp. Beneath a shaded area of the forest the group conversed about what they were going to do next.
"We need to keep going so we can reach the next village before this maniac does!" yelled Inuyasha.
"This is not the time for rash decisions, we need to think about our course of action before running headfirst into a situation that we have not been in before or that we cannot handle." Miroku said suddenly.
"I agree with Miroku. We need to strategize and think it through thoroughly." Sango chimed in.
Kagome sat silently and thought about what was going on. What can we do? Inuyasha had already seen this thing and he couldn't do anything to stop it. What can we possibly do against this thing? We need to find Kouga and see if he can help. We need to build up defences. We need to get groups all over and join people together to try and stop this thing.Kagome was stricken by how much her plan sounded as if they could stand a chance. She told them exactly what she had thought. Everyone agreed with her and determined to set out about midnight after a few hours sleep. Alternately changing shifts to watch out for the group. Miroku was on watch when midnight came around and the little group set out for their undetermined destination.
They came upon the third village about 3 in the morning. This one was gone too. They sifted through the debris and found a sole survivor. The little girl was so badly wounded that they weren't sure if she would make it. But instead of going on they stayed with the little girl. She died in her sleep sometime before dawn and Kagome felt empty. Sango had taken care of the little girl and Kagome could feel the hurt in Sango because she had lost two little girls, even if the last one wasn't really hers. They carried on, going from village to village. They came upon a village, totally protected on three sides by a valley. Apparently they had succeeded on reaching a village before that thing did. Or maybe it had just missed the village on accident. Anyhow, they decided to stay and see if the thing would come to this village tonight.
They had come to believe that it only slaughtered at night because the dark hid it from vision and that was when people slept. An easy slaughterthought Kagome uncomfortably. The idea disturbed her, why would he only attack at night if he was so strong that Inuyasha lost him?They rented a room at the village Inn and got as much sleep as they possibly could, trying to get their minds off all what they had been through in just 3 days for just a few hours of sleep. Finally lack of sleep overwhelmed them and they were asleep upon closing their eyes. Everyone slept except Inuyasha. He kept watch and had too much on his mind to sleep. He was mostly thinking about Kagome. How he had thought that Kagome would never come back and then she had. She doesn't seem mad at me, but that may just be put to the side for the meantime. Inuyasha was left to his thoughts for the time being. He sat under a tree near the Inn, he let his eyes close for just a moment, immediantly falling asleep.
