InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Freak Out ❯ I Sing for You ( Chapter 5 )
Chapter 5: I Sing for You
"Of course I'm right! What d'you take me for; stupid?"
"But it doesn't…"
Mika growled. "It does too! Just read the flippin' book!"
Michi leafed the pages of her book as she walked alongside Mika. Her eyes followed the lines as she read, shifting from right to left, and then back again to start reading a new line. Her brow evened out and her eyes brightened in understanding. "I get it now! The frog's tongue is attached in the front so they can get food easier. That's why their tongues seem so long!"
Mika snorted, rubbing her shoulder as she walked along. "Can't say I didn't tell you so."
"What is this subject you're talking about?" Yuki asked as she floated above them.
"Biology." Mika stated, looking up at her half-sister. "Michi and Kane take this while I'm ahead of them in Chemistry." Mika boasted.
Michi giggled. "Only because she learned almost all of it from Nakura."
The wolf flinched angrily as Yuki became amused and smiled. "Oh yeah? Well at least I don't worry about how long tongues are! Especially a certain Thunder Brother's!"
Honorably, Michi put one hand in front of her chest, parallel to her height and perpendicular to her arm. "I am a monk. I do not concern myself with such matters."
"Like hell you don't! I've seen you grope Ori's ass before; don't deny it." Mika made a face at the girl.
The young monk reached for her subjugation whistle, keeping her Kazaana hand where it was. "Okay, I'll admit that I have groped his fine buttocks, but I'm still a monk."
Mika crossed her arms. "Yeah, a dishonorable one."
FWEE!! The high note resonated through Mika's skull and she collapsed onto the ground at the same time that Yuki landed beside the monkess. "Impossible, irrational, against my religion."
Yuki blinked as she looked down at Mika as her foot twitched repeatedly in the air. "You have a religion?"
Michi took her staff and bonked her on the head. "Of course I do; I'm a servant of Buddha."
"Okay! Enough horsing around!" Mika shouted, standing and hurriedly taking away Michi's staff. "Mutt-face and fish-breath need our help and arguing isn't doing shit!"
The monk sighed. "She's right."
Rubbing the welt on her head, Yuki agreed. "Shall we continue?"
Mika shrugged. "Problem is, where do we go to find them? They could be…"
"You're lost?!" Michi interjected.
"Not lost, just unsure of where those two love doves could be."
"Doesn't your nose work?"
"It does, I just can't pick up their scents. They trailed on that way," Mika pointed east. "But they seemed to have suddenly disappeared." She sniffed again; not one trace of their scent lingered in the air.
"What do you think happened?" Yuki inquired.
Mika shrugged. "Maybe the battle moved elsewhere. Either way, we need to find them."
"What about Nigiyaka?" Michi chimed in. "Maybe Setsuna and Kane are going to find him. Shouldn't we go to him to see if they're there?"
Mika blew out an angry breath. "Do you know where he is?"
"No I don't but…"
The wind shifted directions. "Wait…" Mika sniffed. "I smell them again." Turning to the other two, she explained, "The scent of Kane's and Setsuna's blood is overpowering their normal scents. There must have been some blood shed in that battle."
"How bad is it?" Michi asked.
"I smell more of Setsuna's blood than of Kane's." Her eyes widened at the sudden thought that made her cringe. "Kane might've killed him…"
Michi shook her head, unwilling to believe what her friend had said. "Kane would try to stop herself if it came down to that…" But doubt lurked in her mind as well. "…wouldn't she?"
"Under Nigiyaka's control, she might've tried at least. He may be too powerful for her." Mika frowned and closed her eyes.
Michi dug her staff into the ground. "We have no time to waste. Whether Setsuna's alive or not, we can at least save Kane, right?"
Mika nodded, but said nothing.
Yuki put a reassuring hand on Mika's shoulder. "Worried about Nakura?"
Again, she didn't say anything. Instead, she silently walked forward, not allowing her companions to see her concern.

"How're you holding up?" Setsuna asked Kane, who now lagged behind considerably.
"I'm a little tired." She rubbed her temples, feeling a slight loss of control for only a moment. `I need to keep moving. Concentrate on something other than resting.'
"Can't say I blame you. Nigiyaka made your body do some pretty impressive moves you've never even thought of before." Setsuna slowed down and fell into step with the hanyou girl.
She shook her head. "I know. You'd think I'd remember how to do them, but…" The tug increased. Kane had noticed all along how the further east they went, the stronger Nigiyaka's control waxed like the moon.
"But what?"
"N-nothing. Let's keep going."
Setsuna didn't miss how her eyes had glazed over for a brief moment. `Get her to sing something. Maybe that'll help keep her mind clear.' "Hey Kane?"
"Setsuna?"
"Wanna practice one of your songs from choir?"
"Why?"
"I want to hear what they sound like." He blushed. "I've also been thinking about joining your school so I could learn to sing like you do."
Kane thought it over. "But their all SATB and don't sound right without the melody and harmony put together."
Setsuna cringed. `I have to get her to sing; something, anything.' "Then a song from that music box you keep talking about?"
"The radio?"
"Yeah, that thing."
"Well, there's this really cool song by Kohei Koizumi called `Strength' that's pretty popular in modern Japan."
"Really? What does it sound like?"
Strength (from `X' Original Soundtrack II)
Vocals and Lyric Composition by: Kohei Koizumi
English Translation
(This song is possibly the best Japanese song I know about. It's really pretty and I adore it. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who loves to write because it gave me inspiration.)
No one to love in a world of sad dreams
If I can't stop living, what should I do?
Even though I loved and lost it all, I was still searching
Protecting, keeping, the beauty that is an illusion
I couldn't even protect your strength and kindness, instead I just suffered
If nobody can disobey their destiny to be born
Hey, tell me the meaning of tears
The promise from that day would never come true
But, I wonder why I felt a little happiness
No matter how hard the past was…it even denies where I am going
I can see a thin light that is not a phantom
With your strength and kindness, maybe a true feeling can be protected
I want to believe that one's heart can be changed to live for tomorrow
Don't cry anymore because I am with you…
Now, only an unstable future gives us hesitation in our hearts
Because one's heart can be changed, I won't give up on my precious thing
With your strength and kindness…
Because one's heart can be changed…
You can live without hesitation
Don't cry anymore. Let's start walking now
Finished, Kane looked to Setsuna for approval. "Did you like it?"
He nodded, feeling an odd sensation of relief and strength course through his body. "It was beautiful. I think you should've recorded that song, not Ms. Koizumi."
Kane blushed. "I don't know about that. Kohei is a very good professional singer and…"
"I thought that was you singing." Mika stated as she came through the brush. "Have I heard of that song somewhere before?"
"M-maybe." Kane's blush deepened since she had only intended Setsuna to hear her sing solo like that.
"Now I know why the choir at school adores you." Michi sang happily, embracing her friend with joy that they had found her.
Kane smiled and said, "Arigato." Looking up at Mika's forehead, she saw the white bandages that stood out against Mika's deep black hair. "Did my attack do that to you?"
The wolf demon touched her forehead. "It doesn't even hurt. In fact, none of my injuries, if you can even call them injuries, hurt from the start." She boasted.
"If they never hurt, how come you screamed so much after we pulled your shoulder back into place?" Michi poked the wounded shoulder. Mika's face flashed a slight wince, but she shrugged it off quickly.
"Keh! Like mutt-face here could ever hurt me."
Kane sighed. "Remember, that wasn't me doing those things. Nigiyaka had taken over my body." She turned to Michi. "How's Ori; will he be all right?"
Michi frowned and turned away, unwilling to talk.
Yuki spoke in her place. "He's dying from poison in his wounds. We think Nigiyaka put poison in your talons."
"Then how come I'm not poisoned?" Setsuna asked, taking off his kimono top to reveal his slashes from Kane's claws. The marks were red and irritated with small traces of dried blood lingering from when he had bled. It looked gruesome against his hard abs and delicate skin.
"Perhaps Nigiyaka hadn't intended to try and kill you quickly like he had intended Ori." Yuki noted.
"That doesn't make sense; wouldn't he want Setsuna dead along with the rest of us?" Michi asked.
"Since Kane harbors feelings for you, I think he may have wanted her to suffer by prolonging the battle and truly killing you with her own hands. Because the poison that has affected Ori isn't from Kane's talons, it's safe to assume Nigiyaka steeped them himself with his own poison." Yuki turned back to Kane. "What do you think you'd have done if you had killed Setsuna with Teretsu or your own powers?"
Kane frowned and turned away to continue walking. "I'm not sure. I might've retreated to the recesses of my mind and not fought back, knowing everybody I loved was dead."
"My point exactly."
Kane growled. "We need to keep moving so we can defeat this evil demon. Talking about what I did when he had control over me makes me sick!" Kane said angrily.
"She's right; it's pay back time!" Mika exclaimed.
Setsuna took Kane's hand from behind and squeezed it lightly. Confidant, they strode on towards the east.

Out of his trance, Nigiyaka shook his head to rid himself of the nauseating sensation he could feel in his gut. `So, the cat's managed to figure out how to defeat me and keep Kane-Sakura under her own control.' His blue eyes flashed in the dim light of the cave. `I must build up my power, but how?' He searched through the forest, finding almost all it dried and dead. Then he saw Nakura, breathing deeply as he slept to regain his strength. Once again, he blinked the vision away. "His plant powers have weakened, but they will suffice." Nigiyaka began his ancient chant as he plucked a rose from the lonely red patch. Drawing his own blood with the thorn, he smiled as he closed his eyes.

Myrako gently wiped Ori's forehead of sweat with a cool cloth as his fever escalated. "Come on Ori; don't give up." She said softly as means of comfort. Nakura made a muffled noise and she turned to watch him. "Nakura, are you okay?"
"Something's…calling me." He sat up and held his head with his hand.
"I don't hear anything." She cupped her ear, but only heard the gentle rustle of dead leaves flying in the breeze.
Nakura's eyes widened and he tensed. Shaking as he covered his ears, he shouted, "Shut up!"
Myrako jumped. "I'm sorry Nakura, please forgive me!"
`This voice, it's chanting something I can't understand and it's coming from within my head.' He squeezed his eyes closed and felt the rest of his senses diminish as the pain took over.
"Huh?! Nakura, what's wrong?!" Myrako wiped away some tears as he fell back onto the ground and started arch his back against the pain. "What's going on?!"
He screamed out in pain and went limp when he lost feeling in his body. "It's…Nigiyaka!"
***
Kane suddenly stopped walking and put her hand up to her head. She groaned and felt the control slip from her fingers. `No, not again!'
Noticing her distress, Setsuna rushed towards her as the rest of the group halted to see what was going on. "Don't succumb to him Kane! Fight him off!"
"I don't know…how." Kane panted, feeling her soul literally being ripped from her body.
"Sing something to take your mind off of his power."
"He's gained strength; I don't think I can…"
"Just sing something, anything!" He embraced her with his arms like her body was disappearing with her soul. "We're too close to give up!" He didn't know what else to do, so he brought his lips to hers and pressed against them tightly.
`Setsuna…' Kane said in her mind as her eyes were opened to her. She tore away from his mouth and sang out. "Win dain a lotica…" Those few words pulsated through her as she glowed a bright florescent blue. But Setsuna didn't let go; he clung to her with all his might. And when the light diminished, the pain was gone and Nigiyaka had lost his grip; for the time being. She opened her eyes slowly, in the embrace of the Neko demon. "Wha…what happened?" She whispered.
`The song, she's found it.' Setsuna shook violently, awestruck and paralyzed. His knees buckled beneath him as he released his hold.
"Setsuna, what's wrong?" Kane help him lower himself to the ground safely. "What is it?!"
"I…can't move…" He replied, but smiled nonetheless. "At least you didn't sing the whole song or I'd have been destroyed."
"Yuki, get some antidote from my knapsack. Wait, the song?" She thought over the words she had spilled from her mouth and gasped. "What about that song?"
"Kane, what's going on?" Yuki asked, kneeling next to the Neko to administer some of her antidote into his system. Slowly, the tingling in his hands and feet gave him the indication that his body was feeling everything again. "What was with that strange light your body gave off?"
"I'm not sure. I sang the first words that came to mind and those were it, for some odd reason." `How did those words pop up in my head anyway? I've never heard of them before and that melody was something even I couldn't have made up. This is too weird.'
"Either way, we need to keep going east." Setsuna sat up and dusted off his haori. "So long as he's alive, you're still under his control." He stood.
"Are you okay though?" Kane asked, grabbing his shoulder to stop him.
When he turned to face her, the sun hit his eyes just so that they sparkled like emeralds and twinkled like a million stars had filled his black lenses. She gasped and blushed as his stare bore down on her gently. "I'm fine. I just want to protect you from this Nigiyaka and my brother." Kane's heart pounded in her head as he turned away. A deep blush brushed over her face. He stopped and added, "Even if I'm right beside you, do what you must."
Mika waved a hand in front of Kane's face. "Hello, earth to mutt-face…" She said, tweaking her nose to get her to snap out of it.
`When he had looked at me…' Kane blushed even deeper. `His eyes were filled with love…and mixed with fear.' She started walking again, still flushed in her cheeks. `And that kiss…' She touched her lips. `That…that came so unexpectedly.' She relinquished the thought and kept going. Still, her mind was off balance as she walked along, thinking of the feel of his lips against hers.
***
Nigiyaka fell out of his trance and onto the floor, paralyzed more than Setsuna had been. Pins and needles poked and prodded at his senses and caused great pain as feeling finally came back to him. `She's discovered the ancient song; and should she come any closer to me, I'll perish.' He painstakingly sat up, groaning loudly as the pain spiraled through his mind; sweat poured relentlessly down his forehead like little droplets of blood as he forced himself to stand once again. `If I'm to defeat her and her friends, I must gain control of her faster to keep her from singing. And for that to happen, I need more power. But Nakura has been spent and the forest is almost dead. Thus, I must weaken her instead.'
Standing straight again, he uttered a curse as more pain rattled his veins. "Damn that wench. Now that she knows the song, I may stand no chance against…unless…" He smirked. "Unless I poison her blood before she can sing again." His bed of roses had caught more than one drop of her blood for a purpose. "It will require some risks, but I've done this before on one stronger than she. And to keep my freedom, and my life, a little risk is worth it."
***
"This is it you guys; Nigiyaka's stronghold." Setsuna pointed out the cave. "It may not look like much, but there's a strong demon hiding within there."
Mika looked around, cautiously sniffing. "He's here all right. My hair's standing on end from just smelling his scent."
"I don't blame you." Kane shuddered. `To think I trusted that bastard; he'll pay for making me hurt my friends.'
Yuki's eyes widened. "What're those?!" She asked, pointing towards the lip of the cave.
Kane whirled around and saw the same thing she did. "I don't know," Unsheathing Teretsu, she prepared to fight. "But we're about to find out."

Phew! Another chapter of Freak Out done. I hope there are people reading this movie along with Hidden Past Hidden Self. I will soon be resuming doing chapters for that story after the next chapter and epilogue are uploaded. Hopefully that will be within the month of January because our internet service will be cancelled by the end of this month. My mom's credit card number had been stolen, so she had to cancel the card and that same card pays the internet service monthly. Some guy in Canada ruined it all for my fans. Luckily, I've got the time to type the rest of this movie out before the end of the month. Wish me luck!
