Disclaimer:
Kathryne-San: Konchanwa! (Sighs) It's been quite a day, but everyone's finally quieted down...everyone's asleep except for me and Inuyasha. (Yawns) But the truth is that I am real tired...and so this disclaimer will be short...
Inuyasha: Your friends are freaky.
Kathryne-San: Yeah, well, they are my friends...
Inuyasha: Hmph.
Kathryne-San: Well, on with it. I don't own InuYasha. Rumiko Takahashi does.
Inuyasha: Right.
Kathryne-San: So...cue fanfic.

Chapter Two: Modern: The Sun Sets
“Kagome! Kagome!” The voice called. The voice of a man. “Kagome!”
The image of a young man, white-haired and two dog ears on his head, wearing a red haorihakama, was running towards her.
“Kagome! Answer me! Kagome!”
Who is calling me?
Her thoughts were clouded and locked away, so she could not get to them. She heard faint whispers near her. The man's frantic yelling was silenced only for a while, while the whispers grew louder.
“I'm afraid that Ms. Higurashi has suffered intense brain damage…she is in a coma, and it is possible that her mind may repair itself…but it is unlikely she will wake up…it would be a miracle if she did…”
Then, along with the whispers and the man's yelling, weeping. A woman weeping.
The man was growing farther away despite that he was running with all his might.
Her thoughts formed one question at the man: Who are you?
Then, all at once, the weeping, yelling, and whispers were gone. So was the man in red.
She was left alone.
She looked down at herself. There were cuts and bruises everywhere, and they bled profusely. But she didn't seem to be concerned about them. What was more important was getting her thoughts together. She felt a hole in her thoughts, a fathomless hole where, no matter how hard she tried, she could not find the memories within it.
She was filthy, covered in gore and blood. She wanted to wash off. She felt nasty.
She stood up shakily, trying to find her balance. Her body throbbed in pain like an avatar of suffering.
“Heh…” A voice, a deep one, rang out. “Well, miko, do you realize where you are?”
The voice belonged to a man, a man covered in a baboon pelt. Giant wasps guarded him.
“Who are you?”
The pelt came off, and revealed not a man, but a creature so horrifying she would have screamed had she the energy and strength. The torso and head in the center was a man, all right, but tendrils and tentacles squirmed from him, giving him a deformed mass for a body. The giant wasps buzzed around him.
“Then it's done.”
“What's done?” she asked.
“You're trapped.”
And he was right. The dark walls of this place (wherever she was) had no exit. The giant wasps shot towards her, picking her up while she let them. She was too weak to fight back…
“Hah…you like the Saimyoushou? They won't stay for long…”
The wasps (or Saimyoushou, as the creature called them) dropped her in front of the creature's pulsing body. Using a tentacle, he picked her up and held her to his face. Something was sucking the life from her…
“You don't know this place, miko? You will be spending the rest of your life in here. Get used to it. No-one can find you. Not even that foolish half-breed that has killed me…
“I am Naraku, miko. I am the man who has cursed you to be here. I am the hanyou that contains the rejected and pariah youkai that make this body. Your fate is my dying vengeance. I tore Inuyasha and Kikyou apart, destroyed the taijiya village, turned one of them against his own people, and cursed the houshi with the Kazaana. I sought the Shikon no Tama in your body…but it is not there now, and I will never have it, for Inuyasha and his group, including you, have murdered me. If I cannot have it, then those who possess it will suffer!”
None of what the creature that called itself Naraku said made any sense to her. She killed someone? “What are you talking about?”
A smirk twisted his mouth. “That is your curse. You remember nothing. Do you remember the hanyou Inuyasha? The houshi Miroku? The taijiya Sango? Or maybe the kitsune Shippou?”
“I don't remember anything…who are they?”
“ `Who are they?'” he mocked. “That is for you to figure out…and for me to know.
“Are you prepared, miko? This is your grave. You will stay here for the rest of your life. You will die here. Say goodbye to those you love, Higurashi Kagome…”
“No!” She found energy to protest. “No! Where am I?! Tell me!”
A black mist tore its way towards her, so she became enveloped in the Shouki. She tried to concentrate, but the force of the mist pushed her down. Naraku's voice gave one last deadly thought:
“This prison is your mind, miko.”
Naraku and the Saimyoushou disappeared.
The black mist dissipated, and she was left to her thoughts.
Who was he talking about?
It had grown cold…and she was alone…
Another voice crept in. It was a boy's voice, and it was weeping as well.
“Wake up, Kagome…”
“Souta?” she cried. “Souta!...is that you?”
The voice did not respond. The images of her mother, brother, and grandfather appeared, yet as she ran towards them, they faded.
“No! Souta! Mama! Grandpa! Come back!”
She looked wildly around. This place is my mind?
It did not feel like her mind. It was cold and lonely.
Three more figures appeared before her. One was a man with dark hair and grey eyes, wearing a monk's clothing. He held a staff in his hand. The second was a woman in peasant clothing, and had a big boomerang strapped to her back. Her hair was dark and her eyes were brown. The last figure had red hair and green eyes, and looked like a child, but had a fluffy tail and pointed ears.
“Kagome, please, come back…” they said.
Who are you?
As soon as they came, they left.
You see these people, miko? You will never see them again. That is my will. That is my curse.
“No! I don't want to be trapped here!” Naraku's voice was beginning to frighten her. “Please! Let me go!”
He laughed cruelly. Give it up, miko. You're trapped in here forever. And if you do escape, then I know someone who will make sure you never remember anything again…
She fell into tears as the voice of Naraku laughed and faded.
Someone, please, get me out of here…
But no one would hear her screams. She was a prisoner of her mind, her comatose body lifeless to do anything.
It would be this way for a while.
An excruciating while.

Kathryne-San: Is this depressing or what? It was raining when I wrote this, and that always affects my mood. Well, I hope this made sense…I was just spewing stuff as it came to me.
Inuyasha: (silence)
Kathryne-San: And Inuyasha has fallen asleep on my shoulder. As much as I like that, it is rather annoying…(yawn) Well…I'm real tired, and so I'm going to sleep as soon as I get Inuyasha off of my shoulder…Inu-sama, get off.
Inuyasha: (silence)
Kathryne-San: Inu-sama…
Inuyasha: (silence)
Kathryne-San: (whispers) Osuwari.
Inuyasha: (facefall) OW!
Kathryne-San: Heheheh…I shouldn't enjoy that, but I do…well, until, next time: Sayonara!
