From Demons to Dementors
Far away in England, a young girl in her mid-teens sighed. She was sitting in her room, the one that she shared with another girl a little younger than her. The other girl was the little sister of one of her best friends.
It was the middle of the night, but she sat at the desk they shared, frantically scribbling on a piece of parchment with a feather quill. She sighed, crumpled up the bit of parchment, and tossed it onto a small pile that was growing steadily around the rubbish bin.
`At this rate I'm going to have permanent ink stains on my hands, not to mention I might completely run out of parchment. Then I won't even be able to write to him!' She was obviously dismayed as she glared at her now black and gray hands as if it were their fault. The splotches were the result of many hours trying to write the perfect letter to her friend who lived nearly half way across the world.
“Argh!” the girl grit out angrily.
“Why can't I write this properly!?” She nearly screamed in frustration, but paused, remembering the other girl sharing her living space. She made some last minute scribbles on the current vict-ah… piece of parchment, and then held it up to admire her handy work.
“There, that should do it,” she smiled contentedly, re-reading her letter one last time before she would send it to her long-distance friend.
Dear Souta,
(AN- Coincidence? I think not!)
How have you been? You haven't written to us in a while, so I decided to write to you today. How has your summer been? I hope you're having fun! Mine is well enough, but I miss you. Things are never the same when you go home for the summer. You should really think about moving in with us here at HQ; it would save your family a lot of money and we could always use your help with recent events concerning You-Know-Who. As far as we know, you're the only person with holy powers left, even if you are not trained. We need you desperately, but we all also miss you. But if you can't work it out with your mother and grandfather, then maybe you could at least come here early this year so we can catch up and have some fun before school starts. I hope to see you soon! Write back via owl ASAP.
With love,
Hermione
The girl now known as Hermione smiled at the thought of seeing her friend again. With luck, he would return to them soon. She sealed the letter with wax and then walked out of the room, down the hall and to the room at the far end to the left. She knocked quietly.
“Harry…Harry, wake up!” She waited for a moment, and then knocked again, this time louder.
“Harry! It's me, Hermione…Harry, wake up!” She said, her whispers growing louder. Hearing a rustling noise, she took a step back from the door as it swung open, missing her nose by centimeters. A grim looking adolescent plodded out of the room with a sour look on his face.
“Wad da ya want `mione…” he grumbled sleepily.
“It's 2AM…” he mumbled, wiping the sleep out of his eyes.
“Harry, I'm sorry to wake you, but I wanted to ask if I could borrow Hedwig to send a long distance letter?” she smiled apologetically.
“Yeah, sure you can borrow her, but who's it to? If you don't mind me asking,” he inquired, barely coherent.
“I'm sending a letter to Souta to ask him if he can come early this year!” she whispered, observing his face with amusement as his eyes instantly cleared and his eyebrows disappeared into his messy bangs.
“Really? That would be great! Why didn't I think of that?” His voice rose in his excitement.
“Shhhhhh!” Hermione hissed, reminding him that it was two in the morning and that the rest of the household was asleep.
“Sorry,” Harry murmured sheepishly.
“When do you think he will answer?” he asked her excitedly.
“Well…It should take about a week for Hedwig to reach Souta, so we should find out in about two weeks, if he responds on the same day she arrives,” she answered. Harry grinned and shuffled back into his room before coming back out with a large, white, snowy owl on his arm.
“Thanks, Harry,” she whispered, taking Hedwig onto her own arm and striding swiftly back down the hall to her room.
“Good night!” she called softly down the hall.
“'night, Hermione” he replied before moving sluggishly back to his bed. She strode briskly to her desk where her letter lay, taking it and tying it to Hedwig's leg.
“This is going to Souta in Tokyo, Japan, alright? Do you remember where the shrine is, Hedwig?” she asked the owl. Hedwig nipped her finger affectionately in response and flew out the window and into the night.
“Thanks, Hedwig! When you get back, I'll give you a handful of those treats you like so much!” Hermione smiled when she heard a hoot of pleasure from the dark background of the night. She watched until she could see no more of the great, white owl, and then walked over to her bed. She changed into her pajamas and crawled under the covers.
“Might as well get some sleep,” she whispered to herself. She yawned and plopped her head down on the fluffy pillow. Almost instantly, she fell fast asleep, smiling in her sleep as she dreamed of the boy she loved.
“Mmmm…'night, Souta…” she mumbled dreamily.
(AN- I know this is a short chapter, but bare with me; it will get better! Also, you know that if you review, I will be happy, and a happy author is a fast writer! *smirks and winks*)
