still lies hidden in the heart of the deep, deep forest.)
They walked through the forest in complete silence, enjoying the beautiful day. Soon they came upon the camp and the golden silence was broken by Jaken's annoying voice. “Sesshoumaru-sama, who is this wench?” Sesshoumaru said nothing as he walked over Jaken. Mary followed behind him, and made sure to grind her heel in extra hard. “Ne! Lord Sesshoumaru, where were y…” Rin trailed off as she saw Mary walking along behind Sesshoumaru. “Who are you?” She said, drawing her sword out of it's sheath. Mary bowed and said “Atashi wa Mary desu. Anata wa?” Rin glared at her “Rin, sheathe your sword.” Sesshoumaru said as he stared at his pupil. She stood there, defiantly refusing to sheathe it, but finally did. “Watashi wa Rin.” She glared at Mary for a few minutes, causing her to shudder, then stomped away. You could hear, when she stopped, the sound of trees being killed by her sword.
Later that night as Rin and Mary were preparing dinner, Rin kept grumbling under her breath at Mary. They made rabbit soup, and baked tubers. They served the dinner, and as everyone sat down to eat, a large thunderclap echoed in the sky. The quickly packed up all their stuff, and ran to a secluded cave nearby. As they finally got all their stuff into the cave, the rain began to pour down. They sat down around their hastily erected fire, to eat their lukewarm food. Once they had finished, and put away all the garbage, Mary walked out into the now light sprinkling of rain. She walked around to the back of the cave where no one could see her and sat down. She looked up at the sky and began to sing

The melody of her song began to carry on the wind, enrapturing all who heard it. Men and women villages away wept at the soft lilting voice the heard. Inside the cave, it had a different effect. One heart almost broke at the sadness buried within the words, while the other two were in a rage. Completing her song, Mary leaned back. And collapsed to the ground, as blackness washed over her.
Sesshoumaru was getting worried, a few hours had passed, and Mary still hadn't returned. He stood, and walked outside the cave, searching for her once again. this time, his sharp ears picked up a small moaning noise coming from behind the cave. He walked around to investigate, and found Mary collapsed on the ground, unconscious. He began shaking her, trying to wake her up, and when he got no response he felt for a pulse. He released the breath he had been unknowingly holding when he felt a weak pulse. He touched his fingers to her forehead, and snatched them away as soon as he felt her burning skin. He picked her up, carried her into the cave, and placed her next to the fire. He began to strip her waterlogged body, toweling it dry, and wrapping her in blankets. When she was entirely dry, he sat down next to her and placed a cool cloth on her forehead, causing her to thrash a bit before settling down again. suddenly she began to thrash once more, in the grip of a delirious dream.
“What's going on, where am I?” Mary said as she wandered around the dreamscape. She looked up at the murky gray sky, and suddenly it was overlaid with a flash of blue. “Oh no! What happened to our meeting place? Sesshoumaru-sama are you here?” she yelled out as she began wandering across the dreamscape, looking for him. She came upon a pile of clothes, and when she poked it, it stood up. In front of her stood a full grown demon, with a sharp sword in his hand. “Fresh human!” It hissed gleefully, before it began to chase her across the dreamscape. Mary collapsed as she hit the tree, wearied beyond all belief. She looked up to see the sky once more, and caught a flash of movement up in the tree. She glanced at it and finally saw Rin sitting on a branch above her head. “Rin-san, help me! A demon is after me!” As the demon caught up to Mary and swung its sword downward, the last thing Mary saw was Rin's evilly grinning face.
Mary sat bolt upright, and hit her head on something above her. She looked up, and saw Sesshoumaru rubbing his chin. “Itai!” He said and began to chuckle. Mary joined him, laughing heartily before suddenly stopping. She grabbed her head, and lay back down. “Ow! What happened to me?” she said, as she shivered lightly. “I don't know. When I found you, you were lying on the ground unconscious, with a really high fever. Are you getting sick?” Sesshoumaru said as he covered her with another blanket. Mary shook her head. “I wasn't sick before, and I've never gotten sick this fast before. But you never know.” Mary's eyes closed, and Sesshoumaru began to worry, but he calmed down when he saw her breathing. Mary took internal inventory of her systems, and of her symptoms, trying to figure out what this was. When she finished, she was no farther along than before. She opened her eyes and sighed “I have absolutely no idea what this is, does the feudal era have any doctors?” Sesshoumaru shook his head, then realized that the old woman in the village, Kaede, might know what to do. So he picked her up, and carried her out into the night. He arrived at Kaede's village, and knocked on the door to her hut. “Old Woman! Wake up!” Kaede opened her door, and almost shut it at the sight of a youkai standing there. “What do you want youk…” She stopped when she saw the limp body in his arms. “What happened? Quickly, bring her inside!” She began stripping the now soaked blankets off Mary's prone form, and covered her with fresh ones. “I don't know, she was fine at dinner. But when I found her later, she was unconscious. She is running a really high fever, but she has been conscious for a short period of time.” Sesshoumaru said as Kaede propped Mary up beside the fire. Opening Mary's mouth, Kaede poured some syrupy liquid down her throat that made her start coughing. Giving her a few sips of water, Kaede laid her back down next to the fire. “We'll see if that breaks the fever, and if it doesn't…” Kaede said as she turned to Sesshoumaru. He stared at her and whispered “If it doesn't? What then?” Kaede sighed sadly. “That means that whatever caused this wasn't natural. And that could be bad, very bad.”
A few hours later, Kaede checked Mary's fever once again. “I guess that it's time to assume that this wasn't natural. The fever should have broken a long time ago if it was. I guess it's time to start the toxin tests.” Pulling out a large needle, Kaede pierced Mary's arm and drew some blood. “This should be enough for now. Keep her quiet, and if she wakes up, keep her calm.” As Kaede walked out of the room, Sesshoumaru felt a familiar tingling at his side. He looked down at the sword and said “You want me to use you?” As the aura around the sword began to swell in acknowledgment, Sesshoumaru pulled out of his sheathe. “I… This may hurt.” He whispered as he plunged the Tenseiga into Mary's chest. He swiftly pulled it out and watched without any expression as the wound closed. Mary sat up, one hand clutched over the receding wound on her chest. “What… What happened? What was that?” She whispered hoarsely. “You just got a speed healing, courtesy of Tenseiga.” She nodded sharply, and glanced around at her surroundings. “Ano… Sesshoumaru-sama, where are we? I don't know where we are.” He placed his hand on her forehead, checking for any last remnants of the fever and sighed when he didn't find any. "You're in Kaede's house. You had a really bad fever, and you were quite delirious.” Mary looked at him, grimaced, and said “Oh.” She slowly stood up, clutching the blankets to her shaking frame. “Please, let's just leave. I'm so sleepy, please thank lady Kaede so we can go.” *Yawn* She shook a little, then straightened up before she walked out the door. Sesshoumaru poked his head around the corner and told Kaede what happened, before he joined Mary.
