Chapter Nine: Ruining Kikyou; The Beginning

That Monday Kagome and Sango planned their outfits carefully. Sango wore a mid-thigh length black dress with a halter neck. It was form fitting down to her waist then flared out at the skirt. Over the dress she wore a cute white half jacket and white strappy heels. And on her right hand a ring with Miroku's initials on it. He'd asked her to be his girlfriend while Kagome and Inuyasha talked on the porch. Kagome wore a blue off the shoulder shirt with long sleeves. It was tight on her body but loose on her arms with a pair of dark blue jeans that had blue stitching with black boots and a simple black choker. Both girls wore their hair loose and flowing. They'd arranged for Inuyasha and Miroku to meet them at the front door to the school.
When they entered the building Inuyasha and Miroku were right there as promised. Miroku put his arm around Sango's shoulders and Inuyasha wrapped his around Kagome's waist. She smiled up at him and kissed him on the cheek. “Walk me to my locker?” she asked.
“Of course.” As the four of them walked down the hall together the girls could feel all the eyes watching them. They smiled and waved and nodded to those they knew. Kagome was just tingling with anticipation of the confrontation she knew she'd have with Kikyou. Word would soon get to her of how Kagome had kissed Inuyasha and that he'd walked her to her locker. Inuyasha watched Kagome with a content look on his face. “Kagome,” he said when she started to close her locker. She turned. Inuyasha grabbed her hand and pulled her into a kiss. It was then Kikyou arrived with her little entourage of friends. She cleared her throat loudly. Sango and Miroku stood back to watch the fireworks.
“Inuyasha,” Kagome said laughing as she pulled away. “You messed up my lip gloss.” She turned to the mirror on her locker door and began to reapply said lip gloss purposely ignoring Kikyou.
“And it tasted good to,” Inuyasha licked his lips and winked.
“Excuse me,” Kikyou tapped Kagome. “What do you think your doing?”
Kagome turned to Kikyou with a look of contempt. “You mean you don't know?”
Kikyou sneered. “Oh, I see. You're trying to bring me down. Well it won't work. Just because you've got a boyfriend and some nice clothes mean nothing.”
“Your right Kikyou,” Kagome said mildly. “Looking the part is only half the battle. But then what you have doesn't mean anything either.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Poor little Kikyou, you never did finish your lessons. Being popular isn't just being pretty and having followers. The only way your really popular is if people actually like you.”
“What are you talking about,” Kikyou said again. “I have plenty of friends.”
“You do?” asked Kagome feigning surprise. “Oh yes your little entourage. I'm surprised you consider them your friends. I mean you are the one who started that nasty rumor about poor little Kanna. You know the one where if a guy slips his phone number into her locker she'd call them and make an appointment to…have a little fun, shall we say?” The girl Kanna gasped and with a mutinous look on her face stepped away from Kikyou. “Oh my.” Kagome covered her mouth. “I guess she didn't know that. Does that mean it's safe to assume that Kagura here doesn't know that the week she was away you went with her boyfriend to the Snowflake Ball and did some major mouth to mouth with him, or that you left early and did a lot more than kissing according to him.” Kagura stared at Kikyou and ground her teeth together then stepped away also. “I'm mean really Kikyou, the worst rumors floating around the school were started by you.” At that all the people who had gathered around to see what was going on took a step away from Kikyou each wondering what she might have said about them.
Kikyou looked around in alarm. “Don't listen to her,” she said. “She's just jealous of me. She's always been.” Everyone murmured to one another wondering who to believe. The bell rang.
“Believe whoever you want,” Kagome said shrugging. “The truth will come out soon enough. I've gotta go to class.” She took Inuyasha's hand and walked away Sango and Miroku following. Kagome spent first bell reestablishing middle school friendships and digging up recent dirt on Kikyou. When that class was over Kagome's old friends wanted to walk with her to her next class and continue catching up but when they saw Inuyasha waiting for her they made a couple of teasing remarks and went on their way.
Inuyasha marveled at the change in Kagome as they walked to second period. Her eyes sparkled and she seemed to have this happy aura about her. And it wasn't faked for this revenge on Kikyou stuff. It was genuine. Kagome, as much as she talked about being tired of the politics involved with being popular, she thrived on it. Being popular knowing everyone was your friend; that's what Kagome was made for. And maybe just a little of it had something to do with Inuyasha. He was sure the happy smile she aimed at him and the gleam she got in her eyes when she saw him wasn't false either. Neither was the way she leaned her head on his arm as they walked. When they entered the class Inuyasha started to sit down with Kagome and Sango but his friends called him to the back of the room where Miroku already was.
“So,” Kagome asked Sango as she sat down. “How's life in happy couple land with Miroku?”
“Great, though I've had some trouble with his wandering hands.” answered Sango dreamily. “And you and Inuyasha? How's it going so far?”
“It's good.” They sat and talked for a while when a substitute teacher came in and announced that Teacher had left early and didn't leave any lesson plans. So as long as they weren't too loud and unruly they could do whatever they wanted, as long as it wasn't against the rules. The class cheered at this and got ready for some always welcome no work time. Kagome and Sango talked with some people in the class until Kagome got up and excused herself. She walked across the room to where Inuyasha was laughing with his friends; they fell silent at her approach. “Hi guys.” Said Kagome sitting down on Inuyasha's desk. She placed her hands on Inuyasha's shoulders and began to massage them.
“Hey,” Inuyasha smiled up at her. “Do you need something?”
“No, I just wanted to come sit with you for a bit. Why don't you introduce me to your friends?” asked Kagome directing a smile at the other guys. They fell all over themselves to tell her their names.
“I'm Rei.”
“Keisae.”
“Keichi.”
“Mark.”
“Are you from America Mark,” asked Kagome in a tone that could be called coy.
“Yes actually I moved here two years ago from Orlando, Florida.” He answered happy to be singled out by the beauty.
“Sounds wonderfully interesting. Tell me more.” Said Kagome slipping her hands into Inuyasha's hair and massaging his scalp. But before Mark could open his mouth someone else spoke.
“You don't really want to hear about some boring old place in America do you?” Interrupted a regal looking boy. He had pretty blue eyes black hair longer than Inuyasha's and an arrogant smile.
“Actually yes I did,” said Kagome mildly. “And just who might you be?”
“I'm Kouga.” He answered simply.
“And he's not exactly a friend.” Said Inuyasha. “Go away, I don't need you contaminating Kagome with your disgusting presence.”
“I'll go,” said Kouga. “When the pretty lady comes with me. I'm sure she'd rather be running her hands through my silky smooth hair than that rough flea trap you call hair.”
“Kouga,” growled Inuyasha starting to rise.
“Calm down Inuyasha.” Kagome moved her hands up to rub the base of Inuyasha's ears calming him immediately. “Actually Kouga I'm happy right here with Inuyasha maybe some other time.”
“I'll hold you to that.” Said Kouga winking before walking away.
“Kagome must you do that now?” Inuyasha moved Kagome's hands and pulled her down into his lap. “What's with this whole coy the world is my boyfriend act.” He whispered in her ear.
“Sorry darling, the admiration and adoration of the male species comes with the territory. So does the whole trying to steal me away thing. Don't worry; I'm not going anywhere. But I can't afford to alienate anyone right now.” She whispered back. Inuyasha growled slightly. “Calm down now,” said Kagome aloud kissing his cheek. “I prefer you any day.” She got back up on the desk, “Now where was I?” She went back to massaging Inuyasha's scalp and rubbing his ears. He leaned back against her eyes half closed with pleasure. “Miroku don't you think the guys would like to meet Sango?”
“You know that's a good idea.” Said Miroku. “Sango, c'mere for a minute please?” He called.
“Coming,” Sango walked over and Miroku took her hand and pulled her into his lap. “What's up?”
“Nothing just thought you might want to sit with us for a bit.” He wrapped one arm around her waist and then introduced her to everyone.

Well what do you guys think? By the way, InuHater was lying. I wouldn't ask her to read my fics if she was the last reader on mediaminer. But I need some advice. I have this book, Dying to Please by Linda Howard and I love it, I've read it so many times. Anyway I think it would make a cool fanfic but in the main male character I see hints of Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sesshomaru. And the main female is sort of a Sango cuz she's a fighter but I really can't see the male as all Miroku. What do you guys think? Oh and you should check out the book if you ever get the chance. Linda Howard's one of my favorite authors. I have another book by her Kill and tell. That's a good one too. Their romantic suspense stories. Oh and I had the coolest dream last night like I was watching a movie of a fanfic I'm totally gonna write it one day.
