There was always a happy ending. In all the movies and the books and the manga's, there is always that happy ending that everyone hopes for, that everyone longs for. The hero would get the girl; sometimes it was the girl getting the hero, which was always the best, because the hero would see past her shyness, see her for who she truly was, flaws and all, and he would love her anyways.

The bad guy would be defeated, allowing the happy couple(s) to live in happiness and peace, raising their children in a safe home. They would never fall out of love, though they would fight, but, of course, they would have make-up sex and everything would be okay.

That was another thing; they never ever lost their attraction for each other. No, even when they had false teeth he would wink and her, and she flush and giggle, slapping his knee.

It was quite simply how it was done. It was the happy ending. The happy ending always happened.

But this wasn't some movie or book or manga. No, this was real life. A life that was so unbelievable that it could have made an excellent movie or manga. Bestseller, that was for sure.

The happy ending was so uncertain though. There were so many factors that were making that happy ending impossible. There was death, something they all faced daily, though now it was something they couldn't hide from. If they managed to live through the up-coming fight, there was the fact that she wasn't the only one who vied for the hero.

And because the hero was a hero, strong, brave, and above all, honorable, whatever vow's he made he would keep. And how was she to know if his vows would mean that he would be forced to leave her?

She sighed heavily and leaned her head against her knee's, which she had drawn up too her chest and wrapped her arms around, her eyes misting over. Oh, how she wished she could have that ending. How, if they survived in legend, that it would end with "and InuYasha, the hanyou who sought the Shikon no Tama, and the miko from the future Kagome lived happily ever after."

Kagome would give up her ties and claim's on the world she originally came from; she knew that without a doubt. Yes, she would miss her family but now…now InuYasha was the only thing that mattered. InuYasha and the way she loved him, and that if she lived she would take in the little kitsune Shippou as her son.

No, no matter what, she could never leave her little Shippou…he'd lost so much already…

But if she died…then Shippou would have no one, he would grow up alone, afraid. How could the world be so cruel as to allow the child to live alone? No, she had to live.

Kagome was drawn out of her thoughts by arms slipping around her. She leaned back against the strong chest of InuYasha as he pulled her into his lap, resting her head in the curve of his neck, breathing deeply of that wild scent that made her feel so safe.

He was not normally so forward with her. No, he hardly ever touched her in such a manner, but now was different. They might never have the chance to touch like this again.

Kagome glanced across the fire to see Sango and Miroku curled up in each other's arms, clinging to each other even as they slept. Shippou slept with Kiara, the fire-cat half awake, keeping watch over the silent camp.

InuYasha stood, pulling her upwards with him, and she found her footing carefully. He grasped her hand in his larger one, leading her forwards. They walked in silence, out of the camp and the glowing circle of the fire, into the inky blackness of the night in the forest, which was broken only by slants of moonlight that found their way through thick and tangled branches.

Kagome tightened her grip on his hand, moving closer too him, pressing her side against him as they walked. He squeezed her hand gently, looking over at her, and she looked up into his beloved amber eyes, her own filling with tears.

They reached a clearing, full of moonlight and sweet-smelling spring grass and flowers. Kagome felt something flood through her, and she stopped walking, InuYasha still at her side. She gazed on the clearing, feeling the rightness of it.

InuYasha pulled her into his arms, lifting one hand to tilt her face up, and she went willingly, melting into him when his mouth captured hers. She sighed, a tear trickling down her cheek, followed by another, and they mingled in the kiss, giving it the taste of sorrow.

She wrapped her arms around his waist, pressing herself against him, standing on her tip toes as the kiss deepened, his tongue sweeping the inside of her mouth. She could have happily stayed in that kiss forever, but he pulled away, looking down her.

"Kagome?" He asked softly, his voice rough. She smiled softly and lifted up her hand, her eyes liquid with tears, as her thumb traced over his eyebrow.

"Its okay, InuYasha. Lets make our own happily ever after, okay?" She swallowed hard, that sad, fragile smile still on her face as tears once again began to slip down her pallid cheeks. "We'll make our own happy ending, and no one can take that away from us, right?"

InuYasha nodded and took his arms from around her, slipping off his haori and under kimono. He laid them out on the ground, making them a bed, and Kagome fought back a sob.

He turned back to her and carefully lifted her into his arms, pressing a kiss to her forehead before laying her down, the now crushed grass and flowers sending up a sweet scent.

His hands, so large and hard and strong, so capable of killing a hundred demons, were gentle as the skimmed over her body. They slipped up her shirt, and she shivered at the feeling of his calloused hands on her soft skin.

She raised her head up slightly, raising her arms and draping them around his neck, offering her mouth to him again. His claws snicked through the cotton of her bra, and he pulled it off her, her shirt following suit.

He rose up, and for that time Kagome could see nothing but him. His face, so hauntingly strong, hauntingly beautiful, outlined by his silver hair, glinting in the light of the full moon, as his eyes looked down her. He was everything to her, her moon, her son, her earth, her entire universe, and her breath caught in her throat.

"Are you sure, Kagome?" She nodded once, her hands sliding down his neck and onto his arms, following them down his hands. She grasped them and moved them upwards, his sharp claws ever so slightly dragging across her skin, making her shudder. She stopped when his fingers were brushing the bottoms of her breasts and she bit her lip, looking up at him.

He swallowed hard, moving his hands by himself, cupping the soft mounds of flesh. A gasp caught in her throat, and she arched her back upwards. His thumbs teased over her nipple's, making them peak into hard nubs. His long hair brushed across her skin, making her shiver, and he leaned over, taking one breast into his mouth and drawing deeply on it.

Kagome was unable to breath then, and her hands locked in his hair. She cried out, moving under him as he drew upon her breasts like an infant upon its mother. He kept at it for a time, and when he finely left them, pressing warm, open mouthed kisses down her stomach, Kagome felt as if being slowly ripped apart at the seams.

When InuYasha reached the waistband of her skirt he slid his fingers under it, curling them and drawing his hands down, ripping the sides, catching her underwear in the processes. He pulled them off her, a low, rumbling growl starting in his chest when all her clothing was off her.

Even though Kagome wanted nothing more then this, a blush flared across her cheeks and down her throat, and she swallowed hard. InuYasha was unable of even a single coherent thought that didn't involve Kagome, and taking Kagome, and giving Kagome pleasure.

He leaned down, his side's keeping Kagome's legs apart, even though she tried too squeeze her legs shut.

His tongue snaked out and ran over her outer lips, making Kagome cry out, pushing against him and tightly closing her eyes.

InuYasha used one hand to open her, his fingers tangling in the soft, dark curls that tried to shield her from his gaze, and he drew his tongue over that tiny little nubbin of pleasure.

She was unable to even make a sound when he did that, only able to clutch her hands in his soft hair as her heart began to race even faster.

Kagome felt her world coming out from under her with every press of tongue and teeth against her center, shrill scream she arched her back off the ground, her eyes shut, her mouth opened wide as her body shook in her first climax.

InuYasha slid back up her body, wrapping his arms around her, murmuring to her softly as she panted, unable to move from the earth shattering pleasure that she had experienced.

As soon as she could move she lifted a shaky hand to his cheek, cupping it, tilting her face up and kissing him, her other arm wrapping around his neck.

He growled, his own hands grasping her hips, and he settled himself between her legs, his hardness rubbing against her slick folds. She moaned, wriggling her hips, and he hissed, eyes flashing between amber and scarlet.

His hands tightened and pulled her down, his hips thrusting up, pushing into her and breaking the barrier of her innocence. He snarled in satisfaction, and Kagome cried out, closing her eyes, swamped with a slight pinch of pain, and pleasure that she had never felt before.

He began to move then, pulling out of her slowly before slamming himself back into her. She moaned, tightening her arms about his neck, thrusting her hips against his, matching his pace perfectly.

He leaned over, tasting the skin where her neck and shoulder met, and then bit down hard, blood welling from the teeth marks.

It was all Kagome could take and again she came apart, screaming and convulsing in his arms as she lost herself to the pleasure.

InuYasha lapped at the blood that sluggishly ran from the bite that would mark her as his for the rest of all time, for whatever time they would have left together, and moved faster, satisfied that she had found hers, leaving her to gain his own.

With a last thrust he emptied himself into her, biting back a howl, eyes snapping shut, hands biting into the flesh of her hips.

He fell forward, somehow managing to roll himself onto his back before he crushed Kagome, and tucked her against his chest.

They lie there for a long time, not speaking, for no words were really needed.

They had made their happily ever after, there, in that spot. It might not last, no. Their first time to hold and taste each other might well be the last, but for that moment they could pretend that there was nothing else in the world, that they had no fight to finish when dawn broke.

Kagome lifted her head, eyes half-closed, pressing a kiss on InuYasha who responded gently, a clawed hand running through her hair.

"And they lived…" Kagome sighed, tucking her head under his chin and falling into a sleep. "Happily ever after…"
