A Worthless Confession
Kagome sighed as she stood looking back at herself in the mirror. She held her skirt up to examine the bruises on her hips. There were even a couple of punctures on her sin from Inuyasha's claws. She was hoping to wear jeans to the Christmas party tomorrow but she knew it'd only hurt if she attempted to dance or sit down even. The door swung open.
“Hey!” She clutched her skirt down over herself.
“Oi. Gomen,” Inuyasha said. He stood there in the doorway holding a long, purple box. “I didn't know you were in your room.”
“Yeah right, you should have smelled me in here with your precious little nose, Inuyasha!” She huffed.
“It's not my fault, your room always smell like you. Keh. Sorry to have bothered you.” He turned out the door,
“Wait!” she called. He paused and turned back to her. She leaned her head to the side eyeing the box under his arm. “What's that?”
“Nothing special,” he huffed. “I just picked it up.”
“Can I see it?”
“What for?”
“I wanna know what it is, alright?! Why are you hiding it if it's `nothing special'?”
“Because it isn't. It's just a stick.”
“What?” She blinked in confusion. Inuyasha sighed as he walked over to her and opened the box. And there lying was a stick. A long, dark and thick stick with twigs all over it. “Are you hunting trees now? You're such a weirdo! What's going on, Inuyasha?”
“Feh! Just forget it! You wouldn't understand!” He closed the box quickly and pulled it away from her and stomped out the door. She followed him up to the door with a growl of frustration and slammed it with great force that shook the walls of the house.
“Stupid, Inuyasha! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!” she screamed. The door swung open to the sight of an angry hanyou.
“Who are YOU calling stupid? STUPID!” he growled in her face and then slammed the door back at her. With great fury, Kagome hauled the door open. Inuyasha was on his way downstairs.
“BAKA! SIT!” She yelled. He flew down the stairs with great force, kissing Sota's shoes at the end and being impaled by the branch that flew from the box to his head. Kagome slammed her door for the final time and retreated for the night screaming in her pillow.
“Ya know. I think she's mad,” Sota said as he kneeled down to Inuyasha.
“No really? Ya THINK?!” He asked sarcastically. He then lifted himself off the floor and picked up the tree branch.
“You did ask Grandpa if you could take that right? I don't want him running around chanting and screaming that someone stole a piece of the Sacred Tree. He'll put up a fit to no end.”
“Of course I asked the old man. He'll probably die of a heart attack if he noticed without knowing that I've taken it.” Inuyasha explained while putting on a hat. “You stay here and make sure Kagome doesn't snoop around. She knows I'm up to something. I'm gonna run this by the woodworker before the place closes. I want it done before Christmas.”
“Yes, Sir!” Sota straighten his back and gave him a soldier's salute. “You can count on me!” Inuyasha playfully nudged his chin with his knuckle and was off.
Kagome heard the front door close. She quickly got up and looked out her window and watched the hanyou run out in the snow and towards town. She raced to her bedroom door and opened it in the hope of tracking Inuyasha down. Sota was standing there glaring at her with his arms folded.
“And where do you think you're going?” He asked. She glared back at him with a more piercing stare. He leaned more over to her staring back with not a wink. The battle was on. It was a sibling staring contest to the death. They would often do this when they we're younger. The one who gazes without blinking gets to have the last cookie. But in this case, Kagome will get to pursue Inuyasha if she won, and if she loses she'll stay in her room for the rest of the night. Two minutes go by. This was about to get interesting.
Five minutes. Sota's sister sighed and wrinkled her nose to intimidate him but he never faltered. Seven minutes. Kagome knew he was breaking, his face tensed up and his eyes threatened and cried for moisture. `Just a little longer.'
“Meow!” Buyo rubbed up against her leg scaring the wits out of her and sending a shocking shiver up her spine.
“Ah!” Kagome yelped as she broke eye contact.
“I win!” Sota proudly announced and laughed.
“That's not fair!” She said. “Buyo scared me!”
“Don't be a sore loser, Kagome.” Her brother teased. She huffed in frustration as she shut the door. `Stupid Sota.' She soured to herself.

Kagome groaned at the sunlight hitting her pillow. She barely got any sleep last night because she couldn't help but to wonder what Inuyasha's been doing all this time. She slid off her bed carefully, her feet searching for the ground but touched down on something soft that she couldn't make out. It let out a moan and gently grabbed her foot. She looked down at the side of her bed and found the one and only lying on his side next to her bed (of course he just can't stay away from her).
“Inuyasha?” She called. His eyes were closed but she could tell by his breathing pattern that he was wake. He looked about as tired as she was. He pulled her down off the bed and by his side on the ground. Kagome winced in pain as she attempted to lay on her side with her hip on the ground. She pushed him on his back and lied on top of him with their legs weaved in together.
“Ohayo goziomas, Kagome,” he greeted opening his eyes to her. He flattened his ears sadly on his head as he carefully place a hand on her hip. “I'm so sorry. I know it hurts. I never meant to hurt you. I never want to hurt you. Sometimes I wonder why you put up with me. I'm nothing but a worthless half-breed asshole.” Was she really hearing this? He was actually trying to make up with her? She tapped a finger on his chest to assure her that he was real.
“You may be a jerk sometimes, Inuyasha. But I never want to hear you say that you're a worthless half-breed ever again.” Her voice was firm. “You may assume that I think of you like everyone else who rejected you but you're wrong. I like you just the way you are. And I always will.” He picked her up and laid her back on her bed and straddled her with his knees.
“No! Kagome, I really am worthless. I can't even protect you from myself! I don't deserve to even be considered as a friend to you. I want you so bad. But that's how I've always lived my life, wanting things I can never have. It's the destiny of a hanyou. And mine is to roll over dead into hell with Kikyo. She'll never let me go.”
Tears swelled up in Kagome's eyes. She grabbed him around the neck and pulled him into an embrace. “No. Don't say that. You aren't worthless, Inuyasha.” Pain struck into Inuyasha's chest, he nuzzled his face in her neck as she cried for him once again. He wasn't worthy of her tears. He couldn't bring himself to return her embrace but only breathed deeply to drug himself in her sweet scent.
`I love you, Inuyasha,' Kagome cried out in her mind. She just couldn't force out the words.
