Haunted House, Haunting Past ch. 4
Kagome slipped off her shoes and flopped down on her bed.
’I better start on my homework..’
It had been a long day and Kagome was exhausted. She really hated to do homework, but if she put it off any longer, then she wouldn’t get it done by tomorrow. She had come to realize quickly that most of her teachers were really strict.
She had expected to hate her new school, but she actually kind of liked it. She and the girl named Sango had became good friends and Kagome had met a boy named Miroku who was one of Sango’s friends. Sango and Miroku were definitely an odd couple, but very cute together.
Sango had showed her around her first day at the new school and Kagome had met Miroku at lunch.
She had learned fast of Miroku’s perverted ways when he had grabbed her rear; Kagome had accidentally slapped him out of reflex. Sango had burst into tears laughing at the beat red handprint left on his cheek.
It had been three long and agonizing weeks since Kagome had moved from her old home in Tokyo.
Kagome was starting to get used to her new house and lifestyle, even though she still missed her old home dearly.
Kagome picked up her school bag that she had discarded by her door and set it on her desk. She pulled out all her books, scowling at the text book that read ‘Math’ in thick bold lettering.
Kagome sat down with her pencil in hand, her expression determined. “Okay, evil math! I’m gonna show you who’s boss! There’s no way I’m going to let you get the best of me!” Kagome shouted to the empty house, glancing over the complicated equation.
Kagome’s expression turned blank and her face paled, staring down at the mixture of seemingly foreign letters, symbols, and numbers before her. Letting out a frustrated sigh, she threw down her pencil.
“I HATE MATH!!” Her scream echoed through the whole house.
Kagome took another deep breath and let it out slowly. Calming down, Kagome turned her thoughts to other things.
‘I wonder how my friends back home are doing..’
She hadn’t seen any of them since she had moved. Some of them had called a few times, but after the first week, most of the calls had stopped. Maybe they had forgotten about her. Kagome felt a tinge of sadness.
‘Would they really forget about me?’
The house was empty and lonesome. Kagome’s mom and Gramps had said something earlier about having to run into town to get some groceries and Souta was visiting at a friend’s house. Everyone was gone except for Kagome.
She didn’t really like being left alone in their creepy mansion. It had been awhile since anything strange had happened, but Kagome was still a little suspicious. The house was still a little run down since their grandpa was too old to do all the work by himself.
The floors and stairs creaked and the doors were old and had rusty hinges. Although with all their furniture and a few other personal touches, the house didn’t look as bad.
The house was so big, that they didn’t even use half of it.
Remembering back to the first day they had spent in the house, all the doors had been locked, but somehow the next day; all the doors had been unlocked. The even weirder part was that some of the doors didn’t even have locks.
Her bedroom door would always be open after she was sure she had shut it. Every now and then Kagome would have a strange feeling she was being watched, but that was all. It was probably just her imagination anyway.
Kagome looked back at her homework and sighed. Maybe she should take a break..
She got up from her desk chair and went down to the kitchen. Everything was deserted and seemed so.. Well, lonely. That was really the best word to describe it. It was as if the house actually had feelings. It was depressed and sad.
It was as if every creak and groan within the old house told a story; a sad, tragic story. If only Kagome could understand what it was saying..
Kagome sighed as her thoughts trailed off again. She sat at the kitchen table with a cold glass of water. She took a drink and almost spit it back out. ‘Even the water tastes funny..’
Kagome dumped the rest of her water and put the empty glass in the sink.
The stairs moaned and fussed in protest as Kagome made her way back up to her bedroom. She paused as she came to her door. For some reason that not even Kagome knew, she continued down the hallway until she stood in front of the attic door. For some reason, it seemed to draw her to it..
When she made it to the top of the steps, everything looked exactly the way she had left it. The daylight shone dimly in through the small window. Kagome made her way over to the window peering out.
Kagome was surprised of the view. The thick forest that surrounded their house went on for miles and seemed never-ending. But what caught Kagome’s attention, was beyond that. There was a tall, thick stone wall surrounded by some kind of pink glow.
Kagome grabbed her shoes from her bedroom and headed to the front door. She opened it to find her mother and grandpa standing in front of her with lots of groceries.
“Oh, hey guys. I’m gonna go for a walk.” Kagome pushed her way past them and continued on her way, heading in the general direction of the strange glowing wall.
Her mother and grandpa exchanged confused looks. The old man shook his head in pity, "Huh, children these days.. They all seem to have lost their manners. If she didn't want to help with the groceries, she should have just said so."

The air was warm and dust drifted through rays of golden sunlight that extended down through the trees as Kagome maneuvered through the forest. The drone of crickets and birds had a strangely calming effect as the crunching of leaves sounded under her feet.
She carefully stepped over a fallen branch and made her way through the underbrush and deeper into the forest until she had finally found it. The wall was so tall she couldn’t even see the top of it. The thick grey stone was cold and vines cover almost the whole thing.
‘It seems like something you’d see in ‘The Secret Garden’. Maybe it is a garden..’ Trust Kagome to compare everything to movies..
The glow came from inside..
Kagome pushed aside the overgrown vines from the door and tried to open it. The door didn’t budge. It was either locked, or it was stuck.
Kagome thought a minute before getting an idea. Reaching in her pocket, Kagome pulled out the key.
“Maybe this will work..” She slid the key in the hole and twisted it.
Pushing with all her strength, Kagome pushed the door open.
The pink glow flickered and disappeared before her eyes. She guessed it as some kind of barrier.
Her grandpa was always talking about old myths and mythical creatures, but Kagome never really believed him or even paid any attention to his stories. He’d go on for hours and everyone else usually tried to ignore him and avoid any topics that could lead him into a story. Although it was hard when he seemed to have a story about everything.. Now, Kagome was wishing that she had paid just a little more attention the old man.
Kagome was starting to doubt that any of this was real. She had to be dreaming. She had been having dreams like this for months now. This just had to be another one of those weird dreams.
There, through the dead plants and overgrown brushes, Kagome could make out a tall tree. It seemed to go on forever; reaching past the heavens. But it was black and dead. The branches were empty of any color and any leaves were long gone.
Silver hair brushed lightly in the slight breeze. The boy’s face was pale and tranquil. An arrow rested pierced through his chest.
This HAD to be a dream..

A/N: Okay, now it should get more interesting from now on. I really wanted to have Sango and Miroku in this fic, so I’m going to try and work them into the story somehow.. I didn’t originally plan to have them in it, so we’ll just have to kinda wait see how it goes.
Anyway, tell me what you think and as always, Please R&R!!!!
