Chapter 1: Awake

An arrow flew through the black of night, casting a glow on it's path as it whistled through the air, it's holy aura cracking the night. A young woman with raven hair prayed for her arrow to hit it's target, smiling in joy when it did. But it wasn't yet time to celebrate, for the enemy lived, writhing in pain, but fighting none the less.
A silver haired man swung a sword, one of monstrous size, fiercly at the enemy, yelling a string of curses as it missed. The young woman drew another arrow, aiming this time at the enemies head. With a prayer to any God that would listen, the woman let her arrow fly. It struck cleanly, piercing through the demonic opponent, ending his life of tyranny.
The young woman jumped, and ran to the silver haired man, squealing in joy. The man bent and sliced the bloody head of his enemy clean of it's shoulders. Throwing her arms around the man, the young woman whispered, "The jewel is complete, our journey is ended..." Then placed a soft kiss on his cheek, unable to realize his blush as her world went black around her.

Ms.Higurashi sat by Kagome's hospital bed for the hundredth time, willing her daughter to open her eyes. Closed for almost a year, Ms.Higurashi missed the light of Kagome's sapphire eyes. But some wishes never come, while yet others come late, taking time to fulfill the heart's true wish. Slowly, Kagome opened her eyes, wincing at the sunlight in the room. Ms.Higurashi looked at her daughter, searching for signs of conciousness, when she realized Kagome's eyes had opened. Calling for a nurse, Ms.Higurashi embraced her daughter, tears of joy streaming down her face as her shoulders shook. "Oh Kagome, oh honey! You're awake!" Ms.Higurashi muttered, as though trying to reassure herself more than anything.

A plump nurse ran in and checked Kagome's vitals, muttering in awe about the recovery Kagome had made. Kagome arched an eyebrow in confusion. "M- Mom? Wh- what happened?" Ms.Higurashi looked Kagome in the eyes, "You were in a car accident with your friends." Kagome sat up in worry. "A- Are they okay?" Ms.Higurashi nodded, "Yes, Eri, Yuka, and Ayumi were hurt badly, but you took the worst of it. An Old Ford ran a red light and hit your side at 65 miles an hour. The doctor's thought you wouldn't make it..." At that Ms.Higurashi burst into tears once more. Kagome looked around, then back at her mother. "Mom! I can't see with my left eye!" Ms. Higurashi regarded Kagome sadly, "The optic nerves were damaged in the crash and the sight in your left eye was taken. I'm sorry Kagome, I really am." Hugging her daughter, Ms. Higurashi smoothed out Kagome's hair.
Kagome sudenly gasped, "Mom... how long have I been out, does Inuyasha know?" Ms. Higurashi drew back, looking bewildered and at a loss of words, "A year... who is Inuyasha?" Kagome's eyes widened in shock. Had her mother forgoten? How could she forget, she loved Inuyasha! He had spent a christmas with them even, and now her mother couldn't remember him? What about Souta, had he too forgotten the silver haired hanyou? Had her mother forgotten all about the magic of the well and the jewel? Had everyone forgotten? Throwing the covers off her legs, Kagome planted her feet on the floor for the first time in a year, shivering at the coldness she felt. Pushing herself out of bed, she cried out as she fell to the floor. Kagome's mother rushed over and helped her daughter up, calling in a nurse yet again. The same nurse toddled in, reprimanding Kagome gentley, helping her back into bed. Kagome sat dazedly as the nurse told her what therapy she would need to recover. Deciding to focus on the nurses words, Kagome put the Inuyasha delima out of her mind, at least for now.

Recovering at a mind staggering pace, Kagome left the hospital one week later, her legs strong, though not yet at their prime. As Kagome got into the car, Kagome tensed, remembering the pictures of Eri's new car, twisted and burned, with another car blended into the mix of metal, puddles of blood and broken glass lining the road.

Upon impact, Eri, in the driver's seat, was thrown three feet into a gaurdrail, the car skidding to land on her, upside down, moments later, the flame burning her back beyond repair. Yuka and Ayumi in the back seat were impaled with the metal of the gaurdrail when it hit, unconcious before they had time to scream. The car at fault's engine burst into chaotic flames, burning in it's heat Kagome's right arm and leg. Kagome's head hit the window Eri had been thrown through with startling impact, cutting her left eye deeply, thus damaging her sight for life. The car's outside twisted horribley to push the inhabitants of the car together like sardines. The metal of the other car cut into the exterior of Eri's new mustang, cutting Kagome's side so badly she had losst almost half the blood in her body by the time the ambulence arrive. Eri, under the car, struggled with conciousness as the paramedics searched for survivors. The driver of the old Ford did not live, but instead died immediatly, a blessing considering the life he would have faced.
Kagome's mom remembered with sickening detail the phone ringing, and the feeling she got that her life was going to change forever. Picking up the phone, Ms. Higurashi was forever scared when a doctor informed her of a crash, and the little chance her daughter had at life. Sixteen surgeries later, Kagome was stable, her nearly severed arm saved, and her burns reduced. Broken ribs and ruptured orangs healed, and blood restored, but Kagome remained trapped in her mind.
