Chapter 21: Afterburn
Kagome's P.O.V
After that very moment everything just happened so fast, so sudden, that I didn't get a chance to say I was sorry to my fiance. I was pitiful as I sat in my class thinking over the last stressful weekend. Going over the words Hojo said to me that night.
"Kagome?! Father?!"
"How could you Kagome?! How could you do this to me?! I thought you loved me. You're.....you're nothing but a....a slut!!"
It struck into my heart like an arrow on a target and I couldn't get it out of my head. "You're nothing but a slut." I thought to myself and at the moment I realized that was exactly what I was....a slut.
I was so caught up into myself, into my pain that I didn't register the bell ringing or my classmates leaving, or the teacher yelling my name.
"Ms. Higurashi! Hurry up and get your life together or it's going to be too late."
I snapped my head up at the words that was just yelled to me. "Ms. Hitomi, what did you just say."
The teacher sighed as she stacked the books on her desk. "I said hurry up and get out of class before you're too late."
I shook my head as I knew I was going crazy. I then gathered my things and headed out of the door. As I walked through the hallways it looked like everybody was giving me the death eye and everybody calling me a slut. It was too much for me so I did the only thing I could do....run. I ran trying to escape what was in my mind. I was going insane.
"Slut! Slut! Slut!"
They chanted, I was officially insane and I ran into the nearest room forgeting my 2nd hour class.
"Ms. Higurashi?"
My head whipped around as I was face to face with Ms. Mitsukai, the school's social worker. She looked at me funny as if I was stone cold nuts, but I guess it was the heavens saying I needed help.
"Ms. Mitsukai?
"Yes, Ms. Higurashi. Don't you have a class?"
I shoke my head in the affirmative as I took a seat on the chaise lounge. "Yes, but I needed to talk to you immediately."
"Sure. What is it that you want to talk about?" Ms. Mitsukai said as she folded her delicate manicured hands.
"Um...I have this friend that has this boyfriend who is a really great guy and really perfect, but see....she's...she's not very happy with him so she cheats on him with a very very close person to her boyfriend. Then after a little time passes she kind of falls for guy then her boyfriends finds out. What should she do?"
Ms. Mitsukai sat back in her chair and smiled. "Problems in paradise, Ms. Higurashi?"
I sighed as she knew that it was my problem and not my friend's. "Yeah, a little bit."
"Well, I know that you don't want to marry Hojo, but I don't think you should've cheated on him. That's not the way to go...trust me on that. My husband cheated on me not to long ago and if ever had the feeling of a lover's betrayal, you don't want it because something inside you kind of dies."
I then thought of Hojo and how he was only trying to be a good fiance and love her.
"As for the guy that you've fallen for, that you say is very close to Hojo. I think that you should talk it out with this guy and see that if you're really in love and that if you should pursue it."
Now I was confused. "But what about Hojo"
"Yes, Hojo...well... like my mother used to always say, a good man is hard to find, but true love is even harder." Ms. Mitsukai looked at her watched and sighed. "I think it's time you should be getting back to class."
I nodded as I got up and proceeded to the door. I stopped and turned around looking at the 40 some odd woman before me and said, "Thank you." Then I left out in the hallways. I felt like throwing up after the ordeal of the weekend. It made me so sick because just 3 days ago everything was fine then after that one second my life just crumbled. Me having not being able to see InuYasha also made me sick. He wouldn't return my calls and I haven't seen him since that night. I had to catch a ride with Miroku and Sango who for some reason were getting along better then we arrived at Seoul. Sango and Miroku didn't have a clue what happened that night, but I assume that Hojo's told Miroku by now. As I was thinking I didn't notice the hard figure I fell against before strong arms were enveloped around me.
I looked up into the piercing blue eyes of my ex-boyfriend and cringed at the smirk he had on his face. Could he know? Did Hojo tell Kouga?
"Being a bad girl, huh?" He said letting me go.
Oh, lord he does know. "Kouga, you don't get the whole part of the story."
"What's there to get, you're suppose to be in class young lady."
I blinked twice at his response and sighed. Hojo didn't tell him. Why would he anyway? He doesn't even like him?
"That's where I'm headed, Kouga. So, how'd everything go at SNU."
"You were there or at least I thought you were there. I didn't see you."
I sighed as I didn't even get to enjoy the tour of my future school because I had to fuck things up. "Well, we left kind of early."
"Too bad. They had some of the literature professors reciting poetry and I knew you would've liked that. Plus, they had this party and I knew Hojo would've liked that."
"Really?! Yeah, I would have....but...I guess I better go." I said pointing behind myself to indicate my point.
"Alright, nice talking to you, Kag." Kouga said as he walked off.
I watched him walk further down the hallways before I turned on my heel and headed in the opposite direction. I knew today wasn't over yet and I knew that something was going to happen. I could feel it.
I arrived at my Chemistry class a little earlier than usual because me and Hojo always seemed to bump into each other at this hour. I sat in the back which is a place I prefered more since Sango sat with to me. Sango walked in and waved to me as she sat down next to me.
"Hey, princess. Where have you been? I haven't seen you all day."
"Yeah, I've been trying to avoid Hojo."
"You should say something to him. He's been kind of down after that Seoul trip and you....you've been acting strange and...." Sango stopped her setence and took a loud gasp. "Oh, my God!" She screamed then lowered her voice after she realized where she was at.
"What is wrong with you?" I said.
"You got caught didn't you."
"Who told?" I quickly said.
"You really did? Damn, Kag, that's fucked up." Sango said shaking her head.
"Yeah, I know."
"So, what are you going to do. Did you talk to Hojo? Will he talk to you? Did you talk to InuYasha?"
"No to all questions?"
"Are you okay?" Sango said putting her hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah, I guess."
"Ms. Taijia! Ms. Higurashi! Please quiet down." our teacher exclaimed.
We didn't talk on the subject that whole hour.
After class me and Sango walked out of our Chemistry class and was mobbed by Eri. Yuka, and Ayumi. "Kagome, where were you?!" Eri exclaimed.
I was in no type of mood to deal with the drama my friends brought. At that moment I realized that I had to get all the drama out of my life and that included my friends.
"Eri, leave me hell alone. Forever!" I said curtly then pused passed her.
"But...Kagome."
"But...nothing. Don't call me. Don't come uninvited. That goes for all of you...maybe not Ayumi so much but it definetly goes for you, Eri." I then walked off and Sango flipped them off and followed me.
Sango draped her arm around my shoulder. "I can't believe you! Finally, you stood up for yourself."
"Yeah and I'm not done. How do you feel about skipping again."
"Hell, I'm up for anything." Sango said now hyper and giddy. "I think I'm rubbing off on you."
I walked towards the back door and Sango followed me to the student parking lot.
"Kagome, we could seriously get caught out here this early."
"Hey, you"
Me and Sango whipped our head around and saw the one of the school's security guards. This didn't faze me because I was on a mission and nobody especially some damn rent-a-cop was going to stop me. I walked towards my 2005 mustang that I just received recently for getting into SNU.
"Kagome, what are you doing ? The security guard is after us."
"So." I hunched my shoulders and opened my door. "You coming?" I said as I got in.
"Hell yeah." Sango said hopping in.
I sped off almost running the security guard over. "Damn, princess. what's gotten into you all of a sudden."
"I don't know, but it feels good."
"Whoo!! Damn right it does." Sango said reaching over to push the button that let down the roof.
The spring wind blew in my hair whisking my midnight curls about my head. I was loving the freedom and the feeling of being let out of that prison and I knew exactly where I needed to go. I hit a sharp left then parked infront of the collasal steps and immidiately got scared. Sango looked over to me with a puzzled looked on her face.
"Why are we..." She stopped her sentence as she realized what was on my mind. "Are you sure about this, Kag."
I nodded and got out of the car. "Um...Sango stay here. I need to handle this alone."
Sango silently nodded as she shook her head and turned up my radio. I looked up at the huge building that read Fukushima University.
"Here we go."
A/n: Cliffhanger! I decided to bring back the first person narrations because I kind of missed them. Anyways, look out for Chp 22 which will better then this filler chapter.
