Chapter 27: Imagination

InuYasha woke up that Thursday morning, what he thought was morning, tossing and turning. He gently rolled over to look at the clock that read 6:09pm. He slept right through work and right through the day. He threw his legs over the edge of his king sized bed and sighed heavily. He took his hand and placed it on his forehead as he shook his head. InuYasha looked at the pop cans, plates of half eaten food, and ramen packages that settled about his room.

He ran his hand down his neck and over his shoulder, trying to ease away the pain. Ever since his heart attack, he hasn't been acting the same. He often worried about the amount of sleep that he had. He rarely went to work and rarely went anywhere. He often felt extremely tired and his body ached all over. Was Kagome really that serious? Could love do that to one or should a hospital check be involved? She was really taking a huge toll on him. At that game, he didn't know what to do. He just had to except the fact that she wasn't his, but someone else's

Hojo walked into his father's room expecting him to be in a cold sleep, but to his suprise he was wide awake. "Dad, you're awake? That's a first."

InuYasha looked over to his son. "Yeah, I've been under the weather lately." InuYasha said cracking his neck as he stood up.

"Um....sorry. Dad, I'm about to go. I don't know when I'll be back sooo...don't wait up." He said then closed the door.

"Hold up there!" InuYasha's anxiously said.

Hojo walked back in. "Yeah, dad?"

"Where are you going?" InuYasha said wondering why his son was so secretive about his plans.

"Um...I was going to suprise party for....um..." Hojo tried to occupy his eyes before he finished. "Kagome." He said quickly and in a low voice.

"Who?"

"There's a suprise party for Kagome." Hojo said looking in his father's eyes.

"Why wasn't I told about this? I could've wanted to go."

"Yeah, but you weren't...um...invited."

"I wasn't? Why?" InuYasha asked in curiousity as to why wasn't he able to go to the party.

"I don't think you should. I mean it's just us kids." Hojo said trying to cover up the fact that he didn't want his father around his fiance. Not after what they've done.

InuYasha could see in the honey-brown eyes of his son. He could see right pass his act. He was lying. InuYasha knew the real reason and, hell, he couldn't blame him. "I get it, son. Have fun." He solemnly said.

Hojo looked at his father once again. Golden eyes lost it's usual luster, hair dull from his usual shine, he was far gone. "See ya, dad." He said low as he shut the door leaving his father alone in the room.

"Sango, I thought I said I didn't want a bacholorette party!" Kagome said as she staggered in an unknown parking lot with a blind fold over her eyes.

"It's not a bacholorette party. It's just something I whipped up before we go to Okayama."

"Something you whippped up? Hmm, smells like a stripper party to me."

"Whatever." Sango said opening the door to the place that she set up for her friend. She untied the blindfold as the black fabric fell to the floor and all was heard was a loud "Suprise!" and a gasp.

Kagome looked at the people that were in the sultry club. The faces warmed her heart and she looked up to see a banner that said, "Congratulations, Kagome." She turned to Sango and embraced her. "Thanks." She whispered into her ear.

Sango smiled. "It was nothing." At that moment, she felt like she belonged to a...real family. She felt wanted and felt loved.

"Here's a whisky sour on the house, Kagome." A waitress said handing her the drink.

"Thanks, Seiko." Kagome said taking the drink and watching the friendly waitress of the poetry club walk away. She then turned back to Sango only to see that she was gone. 'Where'd she go?'

==========================***===============================
InuYasha stood in the steamy shower letting the almost scolding water purify him. 'It's been so much hell lately.' "I should've known better than to get involved with a little girl." 'No, she's not a little girl. She's a woman. My woman.' InuYasha put his hands on the wall as he hung his head under the shower water and let the artificial rain pour onto his silver locks making a metallic waterfall. He shook his head of his thoughts. He needed to clear his mind, vent all of the bottled up emotions and it was only one place he could do that at.

===========================***=========================== ====
"Miroku, I...."

Miroku put his finger over the naturally ruby lips of Sango. "Sssh, babe. Don't talk...not yet. I want to know right here and right now what we're going to do."

Sango sighed. She was tired of this with Miroku. He wanted too much. Something she couldn't give him. "I thought I made myself clear the other day."

"I know you didn't mean it. Look me in my eye and tell me you don't love me, tell me you don't want us....me." His amethyst eyes piercing through any shield she tried to keep up "And I'll leave you alone."

Sango crossed her arms over her chest and looked away. She remained silent, refusing to talk, afraid that something she wasn't ready for would come out. Instead, she looked down the long corridor where the bathrooms were, where he took her.

"Sango?" Miroku asked.

Silence.

"Sango, I already know the answer just...just say it."

Again. Silence

"Sango, talk to me?!" He yelled as he grasped her shoulders.

She couldn't take it anymore. "I do!" She yelled, looking into his eyes. "I do want us. I want you, Miro."

Miroku took her in his arms and kissed her lightly on the forehead. "I want you too, San."

Sango sighed. She did want it. Was she ready for it? "But I can't give you that. I have to know for sure."

Miroku was seriously getting frustrated with her up and down emotions. "Sure about what?!"

"About us. If this is for real or some quick high school fling. Is this lust or love?"

Yep, he was tired. He was tired of her doubting him so much. Why didn't she realize or figure it out yet? "I know what this is between us. I'm not so sure that you do." He said as he walked away.

=========================***================================ =
InuYasha arrived in the parking lot of the Velvet Room. It was pretty crowded than usual, but he didn't notice nor did he care. All he was worried about was how he was going to cry his heart out to no one in particular, strangers if you will, but he needed someone to listen. InuYasha went into his pocket and pulled out an orange pill bottle. He took two out and swallowed them. Personally, he didn't think he needed the pills his doctor gave him, but lately pains have been taking a toll on him. He walked up to the club's doors and opened them noticing the odd amount of teenagers that were walking about. InuYasha took it as a sign that they finally realized I.D.'s weren't a must to get a drink. Yeah, word's out.

"Hey there, Yash. Long time, no see." Seiko said as she handed him a dark brandy in a glass. "Here's your Jack. I saw you from the bar and I knew you must have had a bad day."

InuYasha took the firewater in one swig. "The worst." He sat the drink back in her hands. "Thanks, Seiko. Nice seeing you again."

"You, too."

"Hey, what's with all the kids."

"Oh, it's a celebration for somebody. Nice girl."She said smiling.

"Yeah, whatever. Just send me another Jack."

Seiko smiled widely. "Take it easy, big boy. I don't want you to hurt yourself" she said as she sauntered away.

He loved it here. It was quiet, during school hours, and the people were friendly and snapped for you even if you poem sounded like crap. Yeah, he loved it. No troubles. Nothing could go wrong. Nothing. He walked towards his favorite spot on the couch when he saw her. Raven tresses hung over silky milk shoulders. Slim, trimmed frame draped in a black next to nothing dress. He rubbed his eyes making sure he wasn't seeing things. No, he wasn't. It was her. 'So, this is the girl that the party's for. Figures. It would be my damn luck.' She was talking to his son and InuYasha wanted nothing more than to jet and run out of sight, but something gravitated him to her. His feet began to move on there own towards her.

============================***==================== ==========
Silence came between the two, both just taking in the scene.

"This is a nice party Sango set up for you." Hojo admitted to break the mute enviornment.

"Yep. So, everybody's here, huh?"

"Just about." the voice rumbled.

Both heads whipped to see InuYasha. Both were suprised, but with different thoughts.

'He's here!'

'Why is he here?'

"InuYasha." Kagome said as she latched onto him. InuYasha bathed in her scent and in her glory before he reluctantly let her go. "You made it." She said cheerily.

"Couldn't miss it for the world." He said smiling. InuYasha looked over to his son who had a scowl across his young face.

"Yeah, dad you made it." Hojo said through clenched teeth as he glared his father.

InuYasha saw the anger in his face and so did Kagome. "Hojo, what's wrong?" She asked.

"Nothing. Absolutely nothing." He replied tightly.

InuYasha couldn't help but see the tense scene and he didn't want to be the cause of his son's despair. 'But how can I not stay away from her. That tight dress she has on.' InuYasha bit his own lip trapping the moan that was threatening to come out of his throat.

"So, you're packed, InuYasha." Kagome said cheerily. She wanted to cherish this moment she had with him. She haven't seen him in awhile and she just wanted to know that he was real, not some heavenly creature in her dreams.

"Yes. I am packed and ready to head out to Okayama." InuYasha then realized the reason for leaving. There it was again. That pain. The heart wrenching pain that struck him every time he thought about it. He had to shake it off. Just had to. "This is a great party so I might as well mingle. I'm very glad for you, Ms. Higurashi." He smiled then walked off.

Kagome watched as his figure dissipated into the crowd of rowdy teens. Just like that. He was gone. She felt a hand that was gently placed on her shoulder. She looked over to see Hojo. He wasn't him. Not in her mind. InuYasha was the one, if only he could see it.

"You okay, Kag." Hojo asked.

She smiled at him. "Yeah. I'm going to go find Sango." Kagome said as she walked off.

Miroku sat at the bar contemplating his relationship with Sango. Or lack there of. 'She just needs to know. Everybody needs to know how I feel about her'

"You okay there, stranger." Seiko, the waitress, said approaching him.

Miroku eyes shot up to the green eyed brunette. "Not really."

"Well, what's the problem. It's too much going on for you to be sad. I mean great music, great poets, great..."

Miroku jumped out of his seat. "That's it!" He yelled. It was like a epiphany. He looked to the waitress and hugged her. "You're a genius." He said then walked off leaving Seiko dumbfounded.

She scoffed and shook her head. "Kids."

Kagome searched the crowds looking for her friend. 'Where is she?' Kagome thought. 'SHE set the party up and is the one missing.' She walked down the hallways were the bathroom's were kept and saw a familiar brown haired bad ass on the floor...crying.

"Sango?" Kagome said slowly approaching her friend.

Sango looked up with eyes that were dull to the usual fiery, crimson ones. "Hey, Kagome. How's the party?" She said trying to cover up her doleful voice, but failed.

"Are you okay?" Kagome asked in a worried tone.

Sango jumped up from her spot on the floor and wiped her tears. "Of course. I'm fine."

"Sango, what's wrong with you?"

"I said I was fine so stop worrying about me and let's get to this party." Sango said leading Kagome into the lounge. It was quiet and Kagome knew that it was time for open mic. Sango led them to a spot on one of the couches next to Hojo.

Everyone's eyes were averted to the stage. The M.C stepped out on stage. "Hello everyone. I'm here to welcome you old and new comers to the Velvet Room." The hoots and hollers echoed through the room and it was evident of the high school new comers. "Well, I would like to welcome a virgin to our stage. A man who wants to show his love to someone special."

The audience whistled and oooohed. Again, showing their immaturity. Kagome was completely embarrassed because it was her schoolmates causing all of the ruckus and true poerty and art heads stared at them with digust.

"I should've never invited half the school." Sango groused.

"It's okay, San. I'm having fun. I think it's sweet for someone to go out on the stage and pour their heart out."

"I personally think it's a waste of time. Especially, with half of Shikon High here; he's sure to get booed. Poor kid." Sango drolled.

"Hey, have you seen Miroku" Kagome said looking for her lecherous friend.

"Nope." Sango said as she cringed at his name. She then wondered where could he have gone. Her eyes widened. 'No, it couldn't be! Please, Kami, no.'

"Welcome Miroku Houshi to the stage!" The M.C. said and the teenagers cheered for the football kicker.

Miroku walked out onto the stage, violet eyes searching for crimson. They landed on her and she sunk in her chair trying to hide her deep scarlet blush.

"San, you okay?" Kagome asked.

"Never better." She squeaked.

Miroku walked up to the mic, tapping it so it made a screeching sound. His lips lowered to it. "Um...this poem is dedicated to the one and only Sango Taijia." Miroku said pointing to the brunette and she could only sink deeper into her embarrassment. Kagome watched bewildered.

His eyes fixed onto her. Violet rushed into ruby like an unusual clash in the sky just before sun down. "Her eyes, like the most precious of gems." His voice was calm, silky, and every bit of sensual. "Skin, soft to the touch. Lips, sweet to the taste. I devour her into me. Her soul. Her being. Everything, but her love. I want to capture her heart like a firefly on a warm summer night and keep it to me all the time. Glowing, shining, making my whole day bright. How I want to stand onto the moutain tops and scream those three little words."

Sango watched and her heart fluttered. Never have anybody done something so extreme as to recite a poem to her. Her eyes turning vitreous to the tears that were forming.

"But I can't. I'm unable to speak. I yell and dust forms. I yell and silence awakens. I yell, but she doesn't listen, nobody does. My love falls upon deaf ears, but...." Miroku stopped as he saw Sango eyes.'Was she crying?" He threw the mic down onto the stage and hopped off it and walked towards her. Eyes still connected, still joined like a hand and glove. Now, towering over her, his violet orbs penetrated into her. He drew out his hand and Sango silently took it and he sweeped her up to her to feet. The room seemed silent to the unspoken truth between them. Miroku lowered his lips dangerously close to hers.

"Sango?" He asked just above a whisper. His voice floating over to her ears.

"Yes." Sango said in one passion suffocated breath.

"Let me love you." He said before he titled his head and planted his soft lips against hers.

The crowd cheered and Sango broke the kiss and nodded, her face reminiscent to a beet.

Kagome looked at the couple shocked, amazed, and kind of envious. She smiled at her friends expressing themselves to each other and Kagome wanted nothing more than to have what they had....it was rare.

=*=*=*=*=
InuYasha rubbed the sweat off his hands from behind the curtains of the stage. He was nervous, so nervous that he could feel his heart beat faster than usual.

"You alright there, Yash. You looking a little flushed."

InuYasha turned to the smiling green eyes of the waitress, Seiko. "Yeah, I'm fine." He said even though he was so far from fine.

"You ready?" She said rubbing his shoulders like a coach would a boxer before the match.

His palms were sweaty. Knees weak. Head dizzy. Breathing irregular. His heart beating faster than the usual rate. "Ready as I'll ever be." He said.

"Good!" She squeaked. "Knock 'em dead, big boy" She said as she pushed him out onto the stage.

InuYasha walked out into the small, dusty stage that was placed in front of a million sets of eyes and all were on him.

=*=*=*=*=
Kagome looked out into the stage when the M.C. came back out. "Alright, that was a beautiful display of love out there. Congrats, to the lucky couple." He said nodding his head towards Miroku and Sango. "Now, on a different note. The Velvet Room is happy to bring out InuYasha Taisho."

Kagome took a small gasp upon hearing the name. 'InuYasha?' she thought. She felt a hand on her shoulder and she looked over to see Hojo. "Yeah."

"Let's step outside for a couple of minutes. I need a word with you." He said grabbing her hand.

Kagome nodded. "Of course." She said. Kagome didn't want to disturb her friends from kissing so she got up quietly and followed Hojo out the building and into the parking lot.

Once they were out in seclusion, Kagome looked over to Hojo. "So, what's up?"

=*=*=*=*=
Sango stopped making out with Miroku long enough to see that Kagome was gone and InuYasha was on stage. "Where's Kag?" She asked.

"Mm mm," Miroku said shrugging his shoulders. "but baby that's not neither here or there." He said moving in for another kiss.

"Keep that tongue to yourself, Houshi." Sango said pushing him away from her.

"I thought we handled this problem." He whined.

Sango smiled and leaned her lips closer to his ears. "I promise once we get to Okayama, I'll make it worth your while."

Miroku pouted. "That's too long. That's like....tomorrow."

Sango whispered naughty nothings low into his ear and Miroku began to drool. "You promise?" He asked and she nodded. "The whip cream too."

"The whip cream too." She confirmed.

"And the ropes."

"Yes, the ropes." She said. "Now, let's just listen to the poem."

=*=*=*=*=
Once InuYasha got on stage he closed his eyes, knowing that if he looked Kagome in those aquamarine eyes of hers, he would fumble. He lowered his lips close to the black felt tip of the mic.

I remember when beauty once had name
When it once had a face
But maybe that was my imagination
I remember when happines was once so alive
When my eyes were so elated
But maybe that was my imagination
I remember when her aura struck to me like lightning on a tree
When she were as apparent to me as white on a blackboard
But maybe that was my imagination
I remember when her perfect smile made my heart stop
When it made time stop
But maybe that was my imagination
But like an imagination
It faded
Like you
It faded
Like our love
It faded
To what is only now my....imagination.

Kagome looked up into the dark blue sky, gazing at the waxing gibbous that shone brightly with the few stars that stood feebly next to it.

"You're going to give me an answer, Kag." Hojo asked. He wanted her. He wanted this so bad. He had to hear her say it.

"Hojo, I love you, but moving to Tokyo? What about my scholarship to SNU?" Kagome asked.

"I got it all figured out. You're going to SNU for literature hoping to get a degree to jump start your dream of becoming a renown poet, right?"

Kagome sighed. "That's right, but I doubt that it will go that far."

Hojo smiled and cupped her face. "Baby, I don't want you to doubt anything when you're with me. Now please live with me in Tokyo. It's going to be great."

"Hojo I don't know."

"Kag, I wanted to save the news for when we get to Okayama, but I think I need to say this for you to go with me."

Kagome closed her eyes and shook her head. "What news are you talking about?" She was getting really frustrated and confused at this point.

"I got you a deal at Poets House Publishing in Tokyo. They'd want to meet with you."

It took a second for Kagome to realize what he said to her. A second to take in gasp of air. And two to start screaming. "Oh my god!!!" She squealed. "I can't believe this. I...can't believe you. Thank you, Hojo."

"Don't thank me just yet. When they publish you, they would want you to tour all of the areas in Tokyo. This means you would simply have to move there...with me. Now what it's going to be, baby? SNU or your own poetry tour in Tokyo with...oh, I don't know...does a Saiyga Ing ring a bell?"

"Are you talking about THE Saiyga Ing." Kagome switched from foot to foot trying to find a decision. "Yes."

"What?" He asked in disbelief of that she was actually saying 'yes'.

"Yes, I'll go!"

Hojo sweeped her up and kissed her. "Oh, baby you won't regret it." He said as he engaged into another kiss.

=*=*=*=*=
InuYasha could feel the hot tears burn behind his eyelids like lava. It was too much and he was too damn old. "My Kagome." He whispered to the crowd just hoping it carried on to the ears of his beloved. He opened his eyes only to see outside the window of the club, his son and his Kagome kissing in the parking lot. InuYasha grimaced as he felt a shooting feeling in his chest. He grabbed it as he walked off the stage, not paying attention to the applause. He leaned against a wall as he went through his pockets to grab his pills. He took two and swallowed the medicine. InuYasha shook his head and began to breath deeply.

'Maybe....maybe it was my imagination' But he quickly knew the only illusion was that him and Kagome could ever be.
