Chapter 33: When it hurts…..
Kagome stared out into the morning sun as she stood on the balcony of InuYasha’s room. ‘I don’t want to hurt Hojo, but I can’t live a lie with him either.’ Suddenly, a calloused hand snaked around her waist as a broad chest pressed against her back and she was then surrounded by the warm masculinity that was InuYasha.
“Are you sure you want to do this yourself?” InuYasha asked.
Once Kikyo left, they decided they should be the first one to tell Hojo about their intentions. However, Kagome decided to tell Hojo herself….without the presence of InuYasha.
“I’m sure. I can’t take Hojo looking at you with disgust. I would feel as if I single handedly ruined your relationship.”
InuYasha sighed. He didn’t want that either, but he didn’t want Kagome to be blamed for it all. “I just want to support you.”
“It’s fine. I feel I need to do this on my own anyway.”
InuYasha didn’t want to admit that he was afraid that if she walked out of that door, she would be gone forever. “It’s just….the last time you two were alone…”He said as he let the phrase dangle.
Kagome turned to face him. “So, that’s what it is? I won’t leave you, InuYasha.” She said as she caressed the side of his face.
InuYasha turned into her hand as he inhaled the scent that was purely hers. It calmed him somehow. “I believe you.” He said.
“Well, I better go.” Kagome said walking towards the door.
InuYasha quickly grabbed her hand and effortlessly brought her into his embrace before landing a lovesome kiss onto her lips. “Promise you’ll come back.” He whispered after the kiss was broken.
“Promise.”

Kagome headed down the hall towards Hojo’s room. She was terrified to say the least, but that fear startled to dwindle when she realized what this confession could do for her.
“Hojo?” Kagome inquired as she slowly opened the door only to reveal Kikyo steam pressing Kagome’s wedding dress.
Kikyo turned around and smiled. “Oh, Kagome, you should hurry. You don’t want to be late to your own wedding.”
“Where’s Hojo?” Kagome immediately asked.
“He’s getting ready. Rin is off helping him with his tux.”
“What are you doing here?”
“I’m going to help you with your hair and makeup. What kind of mother-in-law would I be if I didn’t? Especially, since your mother isn’t here to attend the wedding.”
“There isn’t going to be a wedding!” Kagome shouted. “And as soon as I find Hojo, I’ll tell him that.”
“Oh, but there will be.” Kikyo chimed. “Or there might be consequences.”
Kagome shook her head. ‘Was she insane?’ “What are you talking about?”
“Well, I don’t know if you know, but I and InuYasha are involved in a really ugly divorce.”
“I’m aware of that.” Kagome clearly stated.
“Are you aware that I’m entitled to half of the Taisho estate?”
“Taisho estate?” Kagome asked as her face was etched with confusion.
“The billions of dollars that was left to InuYasha and Sesshomaru.”
“Billions?”
Kikyo giggled. “You don’t know anything, do you? Well, InuYasha and Sesshomaru’s father died when they were just kids. Their father left them all of his possessions but they could not receive the funds from the estate until they both reached the age of eighteen. Which is why they don’t like to speak of the past when they were homeless runts littering the streets. Sesshomaru turned eighteen a long time before InuYasha, but he couldn’t receive the money until InuYasha turned eighteen. So, Sesshomaru had to hustle and do a lot of illegal bidding to keep food on his little brother’s plate. But once InuYasha turned eighteen, they received their funds and InuYasha gave Sesshomaru all of it because of the way he took care of them. But….legally InuYasha is still sole owner of his half of the estate.” Kikyo then giggled. “Well, that was until he married me, and I plan to take it.”
Kagome shook her head. “No, you can’t. You cheated on him.”
“True, but they have no evidence or any witnesses.”
“Why would you do such a thing?”
“I won’t….unless, you do me favor.” Kikyo said as she handed Kagome the wedding dress.
Kagome looked down at the dress and realized what Kikyo was asking her. “You want me to marry Hojo so you won’t take away InuYasha’s money.”
Kikyo smiled. “You’re not as dumb as you look.”
“But why? You seem to have more than enough money.”
“It’s not about the money. I would hate to ruin Sesshomaru and InuYasha’s lives like this, but I love InuYasha.”
“This isn’t love!” Kagome stated. “It’s blackmail.”
“I love InuYasha the same way Hojo loves you….selfishly, and since I’m so selfish, I can’t let him be with anybody other than me. So, if I can’t have him, then you can’t have him.”
Tears began uncontrollably roll down Kagome’s cheek. “You’re horrible.”
“Oh, honey, don’t cry. Well, maybe you should cry now instead of later, it’ll mess up your makeup.”
“Hojo?” Kagome inquired as she slowly opened the door only to reveal Kikyo steam pressing Kagome’s wedding dress.

InuYasha incessantly tapped his foot as he waited for Kagome to return. It’s been well over two hours and she still wasn’t here. He began to think the worst….which was images of his son and Kagome involved in the throes of passion. “But she promised!” InuYasha yelled as he got up.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.
InuYasha immediately got up in hopes it was Kagome. He opened to door to reveal Sesshomaru dressed in a tuxedo. “What are you doing here?” InuYasha demanded.
“I would like to ask you the same thing, brother. You’re supposed to be downstairs.” Sesshomaru then looked over a pajama clad InuYasha. “And why are you not dressed.”
“Dressed? For what?” InuYasha asked.
“The wedding.” Sesshomaru stated. “Everybody’s ready except for you.”
“Wedding?”
“I thought you had heart disease not brain damage. Your son and Kagome are getting married today, remember?”
InuYasha shook his head in disbelief. “Where’s Kagome?”
“I just saw Kikyo finishing her makeup in Hojo’s room.”
“That can’t be.” InuYasha said as he pushed his brother out of the way and ran off.
“Where are you going?!” Sesshomaru yelled after him.
InuYasha ran down the hall before he reached Hojo’s room and all but kicked it open. His heart started to beat at the sight in front of him.
There was Kagome….in her wedding dress. Her hair was swept of in an art of curls while light makeup brightened her face making her more angelic. She was beautiful.
“Kagome.” InuYasha uttered.
Kagome turned around with a sad frown settled on her perfect face. “InuYasha.”
“W-w-hat….w-w-when….w-w- why” InuYasha stuttered as he tried to form a sentence. “Why are you in your wedding dress unless….you’re getting married today?”
“I am.” She simply said.
“To Hojo?” InuYasha asked, not ready for the answer.
“Yes.” She whispered.
““What the fuck, Kagome?!” InuYasha roared.
“I can explain.” She said as she walked towards him.
“You better. I thought we had an understanding. You promised?” InuYasha pleaded.
“I’m doing this for you.”
“You’re trying to kill me? Is that what you’re doing? Because that’s the end result of you marrying my son.”
“No.” Kagome said a she cupped his face. “Kikyo said that she would take all of your money if I didn’t marry Hojo.”
InuYasha sighed. “She said that.”
“Unless it isn’t true.” Kagome said with hope. “Tell me it isn’t. Tell me she lied.”
InuYasha grasped the hands that were on his cheeks. He set them to her sides as he remained quiet.
“Can she really take all of your money?”
InuYasha nodded. “She can. Damn, I should have come with you!” He said.
“So, I guess I have to marry Hojo.” Kagome sorrowfully said.
“No, you don’t. We’ll find a way.”
“InuYasha, I love you, and I don’t want Kikyo to ruin your life. I refuse to be held responsible.”
“What about us? What about what you want?”
“I want the best for you.” She said.
“And that’s you.”
“You’ll always have me.” Kagome said before pressing her hand against his bruised heart. “Right here.”
InuYasha caressed her hand loving the smooth contrast to his. “And you’ll always have my heart.” InuYasha chuckled. “Consider it something old.”
Kagome giggled as she leaned into his chest. “You better go get into your tux before you stop the whole show.”
“Don’t tempt me.”

The garden was in full bloom as exotic flowers created a warm, bright environment. The sun cascaded the hand crafted gazebo in a luminescent glow that sparkled like the rarest of gold.
Sango and Rin stood proud in their pink bride mates dresses while Hojo, Miroku, InuYasha, and Sesshomaru stood on the opposite side in uniform black tuxedos.
“So, Hojo decided to use my gazebo.” InuYasha commented to Sesshomaru. “Who made him do it?”
Sesshomaru turned to his little brother. “It was Hojo the one who insisted.”
InuYasha sighed as he looked over to the one person audience that was Kikyo, who was disrespectfully dressed in a tight fitting white dress and big sunglasses.
She blew him a kiss that made InuYasha roll his eyes and scoff.
“I see you settled everything with Kikyo.” Sesshomaru sarcastically said.
“Actually,” InuYasha started. “She’s going to walk away with nothing.”
Sesshomaru stood wide eyed. “How did you arrange that?”
“I just gave up the most important thing in the world.”
“B-b-but…” Sesshomaru stuttered trying to figure out what he was talking about.
“Sssh.” InuYasha said as the string quartet began to play Cannon in D. “She’s coming.” He said as he lovingly looked down the aisle.
Kagome slowly walked down the aisle like a heavenly angel floating above the clouds. The veil draped over her visage created a fine translucent curtain. She looked to InuYasha and saw the pain etched in his expression. She hated to see him like this. Once she reached the end, Benson came out in a traditional priest garb.
“I didn’t know Benson was a priest.” InuYasha whispered.
“It’s a lot of things you don’t know.” Sesshomaru stated.
“Welcome, as we join together these two in holy matrimony.” Benson began.
InuYasha couldn’t help but to lose himself in a daze as he looked at Kagome in awe. She was beautiful. Her small gestures and smiles weren’t going unnoticed in his eyes.
“Do you, Hojo Taisho, take Kagome Higurashi as your wife, to have and to hold…?”
Hojo sighed as he thought about how he was destroying Kagome’s life just so he could be content with his. “I do.” He said.
“Do you, Kagome Higurashi, take Hojo Taisho as your husband, to have and to hold…?”
Kagome looked over to InuYasha with passion filled eyes. “I do.” She said their eyes locked.
InuYasha wanted to look away as she gave up her life for him. She was doing this for him. Yet, he will be miserable without her. His world started to become a blur as he slightly stumbled.
Sesshomaru felt the light pressure as InuYasha gently bumped into him. He looked over to his brother to find him looking very ill. “Are you okay?” He whispered.
“Y-yeah…I’m….”He said as he strained to form words. Her throat was closing in on him.
“With the power invested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife.” Benson declared.
‘My chest’ InuYasha anguished inwardly as he clutched his chest.
“InuYasha, do you need to go to the doctor?”
InuYasha couldn’t speak so he just shook his head making everything around him spin and before he knew it he was tumbling towards the ground.
“You may now kiss the bride.” Benson said.
Hojo nodded as he closed his eyes as he leaned to give Kagome a kiss.
“INUYASHA!” Kagome shouted.
Hojo quickly opened his eyes once he heard Kagome’s cries and everybody gasp. He turned around to see his father on the ground with everybody crowding him…including Kagome.
“Dad!” Hojo said as he joined the others to his father’s side.

InuYasha was quickly rushed to hospital. It happened so fast. Just a minute ago they were at a wedding and now everybody sat languidly in the waiting room of the local hospital and InuYasha was going under surgery.
The room was draped in uncomfortable silence.
Kagome couldn’t help the tears that were falling down her eyes. She had to convince herself that InuYasha would come out of it okay, but they were waiting for nine hours straight.
A heavy hand was placed on her shoulder and she looked up to be faced with the hard cognac eyes that belonged to Sesshomaru.
“He’s going to be okay, Ms. Kagome.” He comforted.
Kagome smiled sadly as she nodded.
“Mr. Taisho.” One of the doctors said as he flew through the double doors that divided them.
Sesshomaru quickly turned around. “Yes, Dr. Miratsu. Is he okay?”
The doctor gave one nod. “He’ll be fine. He’s still very heavily sedated though.”
“Can we see him?”
“I’m afraid not. It’s way past visiting hours.”
“When do you visiting hours start?” Kagome said as he came up from behind Sesshomaru.
“8 Am. It’s only a two hour wait.”
“Two hours! I’m tired.” Kikyo stressed.
“We’ll wait!” Kagome interjected. “I’ll wait.”
“Then it’s settled. We’ll wait.” Sesshomaru finalized as he stared down Kikyo. “It’s only two hours.”
Kikyo groaned as she leaned against the uncomfortable chair.
The doctor looked over the group and nodded. “See you in two hours.” He said before he made his exit.
Kagome sighed as she claimed her seat. She looked over to Hojo who was in deep in thought. His eyes were glazed over as his lips were slightly pursed. “Hojo?”
Hojo couldn’t believe the events that occurred in his life. He wanted Kagome so bad that he disregarded any feelings she had. The stress of it all caused his father to become deathly sick. He felt he played a part in this.
“Hojo, are you okay?” Kagome asked again.
Hojo looked over to his wife. “I feel this is my fault.”
Kagome rubbed his back with a lovesome hand. “It’s not. You heard the doctor before. It’s hereditary, remember?”
Hojo scoffed. “Yeah.”
“Just…just get some sleep.” She said coyly placing a hand on his thigh before laying her head on his shoulder
Hojo sighed as he looked over to the beauty he finally had possession of. He looked at the modest hand that was placed on his thigh and saw the age old wedding ring on it. There was the proof, the proof that she belonged to him. So, why did he feel like she was someone else’s property? Hojo shook his head of doubt, for now, before leaning against the support that Kagome offered and closed his tired eyes.

Kagome ran a loving hand down Hojo’s back to soothe him. She’d been awake for about an hour as she watched everybody around her drift off into a slumber. She couldn’t follow them, not with InuYasha alone in a hospital bed. She had to be by his side. She had to see if he was okay. Kagome looked over to her husband. She gently maneuvered from up under him as she was set on getting passed those hospital doors.
Kagome quietly got up and walked towards the double doors that separated her from the other half of her heart. She dashed through the halls searching in each room until silver shimmer caught her eye.
“InuYasha.” She softly said before walking slowly into the room. He was sound sleep beneath the tubes that drowned him.
A single tear ran down her cheek as she gazed upon InuYasha’s dull form. She quietly stalked towards his side and knelt down next to the bed.
She grabbed his listless hand and entangled her fingers with his. “I love you, InuYasha.” She whispered. Kagome then rested her head against his chest letting his heart beat soothe her. Now, that she was next to him she could relax as she slowly drifted off into dream world.

Hojo cracked an eye open before looking at his watch and noticed that more than two hours had passed and became aware of the fact that Kagome was no longer by her side.
It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know where she had wandered off to and being as possessive as he was, Hojo got up in efforts to find her.
After wrong turns and being caught in a conversation with an old lady who mistaken him for her grandson, Hojo finally stumbled upon the right room and felt like he interrupted something he wasn’t supposed to be involved in.
There Kagome and his father lay. Their fingers intertwined and Kagome resting against his chest. He noticed that the area Kagome laid was soaked with her tears and that pained Hojo to see that.
The scene opened Hojo’s eyes and he realized how much Kagome was in love with his father and realized that he had to let Kagome go. He did love Kagome and wanted to be with her, but he loved her enough to let her find her own happiness; even if it wasn’t with him.
Kagome then began to stir as she felt another presence in the room. She looked up to notice honey eyes and ruffled brown hair. She wiped her eyes to make sure she wasn’t dreaming. “Hojo?”
“Hey, Kagome.”
Once confirmed that he was real, Kagome pushed herself away from InuYasha like he was something forbidden and she was caught.
There they stood in discomfited silence.
“I was just worried about him.” Kagome explained.
Hojo chuckled. “You don’t have to explain why you needed to see my father. I get it, Kagome.” He sighed as to release the anger that had built a wall inside of him. “For once in my life, I get it.”
Kagome was confused. “What is it that you get?”
“You love my father and I have a feeling that he loves you, too.”
Kagome was floored. Was this really coming out of his mouth? “Hojo,…”
“Don’t.” He interjected. “You don’t have to say anything.” He said before sitting down in a nearby chair. He dragged his hand down his weary face.
Kagome watched as pain physically drained Hojo’s boyish form. “I do love you, Hojo. You’ve always been there and have always been a sweetheart to me. That’s why I didn’t have the courage to tell you I didn’t want to marry you, and it’s why it breaks my heart to see how all of this ended.”
”You should’ve told me that in the first place, Kags.”
“I know. Too late know.” Kagome said as she waved her ring finger.
Hojo chuckled. “Yeah. You were never good with timing.”
Kagome let out a dry laugh. “So, what does this mean?”
Hojo sighed before looking up into her dewy sky orbs. “I want a divorce.”
“What about Kikyo? She’s threatening to take InuYasha’s half of the estate.”
Hojo shrugged. “She needs a witness, and it’s not going to be me.”

Sesshomaru woke up shortly after Hojo and decided to see InuYasha before anyone else. However, he stumbled upon Kagome’s and Hojo’s conversation. He couldn’t let that snake Kikyo ruin lives. He wouldn’t allow it and decided it was time to pull out the secret weapon he’d had under his sleeve.
He then pulled out his cell phone and dialed the number of his personal secret detective. “Yeah, Dai’ichi, I need a favor. I need you to find an alumnus from Seoul National University.”ojoHojo sdfsdfsdfsdfasdfsdfasdfassddfsfsd
