Sugimi glared at his equally outraged reflection in his dresser mirror, trying to straighten the damn tie around his neck. He couldn't believe his son! Did everything he ever taught to him as a father just go in one ear and out the other!? This was just ludicrous, he had already proposed to Kikyo for crying out loud! And then from nowhere out of the blue he comes to visit just to say he's met someone new and that he doesn't plan to marry Kikyo!? What the hell!?
Izayoi inhaled deeply before she stood from her vanity stool and walked over to her grumbling husband. “Sugimi dear, I'd like to talk to you a moment…” She smiled softly, taking the frustrating tie from the man's hands and working it herself.
He kept his stern gaze on the reflection in the mirror. “About…?”
“I… I don't want you to get offensive over what I'm going to say but… please don't make this night about you and what you want… this is about our son and what he wants in the future; whether he wants to include Kikyo in it or not.” She paused and glanced up at her still rather irritated husband and continued again when he didn't comment. “Whatever decisions he makes in life, good or bad, it's our job as his parents to support him and give him advice… so that when he's a father like you and his son or daughter is in a predicament… he can use what we taught him to guide them as well.”
Sugimi examined his finished black tie in the mirror while he continued to talk to his wife. “But Izayoi, the boy has apparently not learned a thing from us! What he's doing is driving away our chance to regain control over the companies Maboroshi stole from us!”
“What he's doing, Sugimi, is creating a life for himself! He's not going to live in your shadow forever! He's made himself a huge name around here with his band and you haven't even gone to see one show! And why!? Because you're just too busy caring more about your damn companies than to show your little boy how much he means to you!”
“InuYasha's not a little boy anymore Izayoi! He's grown man, and he's throwing his life out the window before my very eyes for some random bitch he met god only knows where!”
Izayoi stomped her heel on the floor and screamed up at her husband in distaste. “STOP IT! Don't you ever talk like that about someone you've never even met before! And about a young lady for that matter! Mr. Tategami, I'm not going to take any of your asinine foolishness at all tonight! If you ever so hurt Kagome in any way, you'll be sleeping in the living room for the rest of your miserable lonely days!”
Sugimi watched his beautiful wife angrily storm out of the bedroom, leaving him feeling like the scum of the earth. She had used the name `Mr. Tategami' meaning that she was pissed beyond all reason at him… and it didn't matter if he was on his best behavior, tonight he was definitely going to sack on the couch.
The door bell rang soon after he had carefully noted this in his aching mind and he turned, exiting the room in a hasty manner. `This is all InuYasha's fault…' He thought, frustration towards his wife twisting towards his son. `If he hadn't of screwed me over none of this would be happening now!'
Sugimi made his way down the lavished flights of stairs and into the foyer, rolling up his sleeves while he continued ranting to himself, though this time aloud. “I can't believe the nerve of that boy! What makes him think he can get away with making a fool out of his own father!? InuYasha's going to wish he never messed with me!” He grabbed the door handle as the bell rang again and gave it a small twist. “He and that damn-”
Sugimi gasped when he opened the door to the smiling couple on the front porch. The young lady holding his son's arm was definitely not what he had been expecting, that's for sure. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes upon, besides his amazing wife; in fact… she almost reminded him of Izayoi herself. She wore a long white sweater over-robe that tied around her skinny waist, a small white tank top underneath it with a scarf around her neck and dark blue jeans with boots. Her long black raven hair curled around her glistening face and cold, rosy cheeks which held chocolate brown eyes and a dazzling white smile… she was stunning. Sugimi found himself grinning widely at the rather intriguing site… `This young lady…? With my boy…? FUCK YEAH!!!!'
InuYasha cleared his throat enjoying the accepting look on his father's face. “Uh… dad, this is Kagome Higurashi. The girl I told you about yesterday, remember?”
Sugimi blinked a few times to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. “Holy shit…” He half-laughed, reaching out to kiss Kagome's hand. “It's… it's an honor Miss Higurashi.”
“Thank you sir… I've been a bit frantic about this…” Kagome admitted nervously, remembering how InuYasha had warned her on the way there that his father might not exactly greet them with open arms. The man standing in the doorway however was completely opposite from what InuYasha had portrayed… so now instead of seeming immensely outraged, Kagome sensed that he was awkwardly over-excited.
InuYasha glanced behind his father and saw his mother scurrying towards the door… her facial expression revealed that she was extremely worried about something. Izayoi cursed herself, how could she have let her out-of-mind enraged husband greet her son and his new girlfriend!? She only hoped that she wasn't too late…
“Dear? Why are our guests standing outside? Don't you think they'd be cozier inside rather than in that chilly weather?”
Sugimi turned around and smiled to his wife. “Izayoi love… this is Kagome! Ha! This-this is Kagome!”
The woman eyed her grinning son who nodded, telling her that his father was indeed quite impressed, and then opened her arms to the beautiful young girl. “Kagome, we've heard so little about you and yet I know that we're going to get along just right.” Izayoi laughed, “Isn't that right darling?”
Sugimi just smiled and nodded, `Holy fucking shit! InuYasha you'd better hope this girl will marry you because Kikyo has no business in this family anymore!'
Izayoi giggled and pushed her way past her dumbfounded husband, grabbing the hand of her welcomed guest. “Please, come this way to the dining room and I'll break out the champagne! You do drink right Kagome?”
“Oh… uh yes ma'am… though I should warn you… I just turned twenty-one and I've never had champagne so…”
“Oh don't bother honey; you won't go off your rocker with this stuff and even if you do get a tad drunk, the food you'll eat tonight will balance it all out!” Izayoi reassured her, jerking Kagome in through the comfy fire-lit living room.
Sugimi closed the front door, still wide-eyed and smiling.
“So… dad… whatcha think of Kagome huh?” InuYasha smirked, elbowing his father playfully.
The man reached out and patted his son on the back. “You did fucking great son… that is one god damn sexy girl you got in there. Please tell me she's a keeper!?”
InuYasha blew on his finger nails and gently rubbed them against his shirt as if to say he was an expert at things like that. “Well, that all depends on if Kikyo is still your number one choice for me.” He yawned, prancing arrogantly over to the dining room.
Sugimi rolled his eyes and laughed “That cocky little bastard.”

After dinner, Izayoi filled everybody's glasses with expensive white champagne and she took a seat next to her husband; examining the couple sitting across from them on the large fluffy sofa in the living room. `They look so cute together…' She smiled, finally clearing her throat. “Okay then! Let's make a toast shall we? Honey, would you do the honors?”
Sugimi sputtered, realizing that she was talking to him. “Oh uh… I don't know dear… why not you hunny?”
“Because, it would mean more to everybody if you did it dear…” Izayoi replied through gritted teeth.
InuYasha exchanged glances with his father who smirked, and InuYasha smacked his forehead… shaking his head no in a pleading way. But his father had better plans… if there was a new girlfriend; there was also a new embarrassing moment to go through…
He stood up and raised his glass to the ceiling, clearing his throat and smiling at the glass in his hand. “Um… InuYasha… A toast to you… a toast to me… may we never disagree… and if we do, then screw you… here's to fucking me! Hehehe!”
Izayoi glared at her husband for his laziness and inconvenience while Kagome giggled and held up her glass. “CHEERS!” The others followed suit, drinking to complete the family tradition.
“So Dad, aren't you forgetting to introduce yourself? After all Kagome still doesn't know your name.” InuYasha raised a brow, his grin becoming hard to hold back.
The man snapped his fingers nervously laughing. “Oh… yes… I c-completely forgot! Ahem… Kagome I am widely known around these parts as Sugimi Tategami!” He declared dramatically. “However, under these marvelous circumstances… you can call me dad.”
Kagome snorted, choking on her champagne. “W-what!?”
“Oh that's right!” Izayoi clapped her hands all giddy-like. “When am I going to be expecting grandchildren?”
InuYasha coughed and began punching his fist to his chest, feeling so fucking embarrassed that he felt like just letting himself drown on the champagne. “M-mom!? Wh-at the hell!? It's way… way too early to be thinking about that!”
“Oh nonsense, I want lots and lots of beautiful grandkids and I want them ASAP!” Izayoi smiled innocently. Kagome smacked her forehead, feeling herself turn seventy different shades of red.
“Yes, I agree with your mother son! You two had better get busy cuz I'd love to see my grandchildren runnin around the manor in their little bare feet; we'll even sugar them up for you before they return home at night! HAHA! Doesn't that sound great my boy!?” Sugimi laughed, punching his son's shoulder.
InuYasha rubbed his offended body part and faked a laugh. “Yeah dad… that'd be great…”
`Like a real nightmare…'
Kagome bit her lip and tried to refrain herself from laughing hysterically… this family was so laid back and cozy. She took a moment to glance at the blushing InuYasha… `And they definitely know how to embarrass a guy…'
The large grandfather clock near the fireplace began ringing 9:30 PM and InuYasha got up instantly. “Well mom, dad… thanks for the wonderful evening but I think it's time for us to leave… ain't that right Kagome?”
The girl looked up quizzically before catching the boy's pleading drift. “Oh! Oh yes of course! I have work tomorrow… you know how it is… early to bed early to rise.” She lied and in the corniest tone she had ever heard.
Izayoi and Sugimi rose from the sofa with them and walked them into the foyer.
“Kagome sweetie, it was such a pleasure meeting you tonight! And I do hope that we see more of you around… we will won't we?” Izayoi asked hopefully.
Kagome nodded giving the woman a hug. “Of course Izayoi.”
“Oh dear just call me mom.” She smiled.
Sugimi grasped Kagome's hand again and pulled her into a soft and yet fairly strong embrace, kissing her forehead. “Now you take good care of this young… stubborn and arrogant man Kagome. Keep him in order… you know, tough him up a bit!”
InuYasha laughed, “Yeah… you have no idea…”
“And that also goes for you InuYasha, take care of Kagome.” Sugimi ordered rather than warned.
Kagome giggled, wrapping a hand around InuYasha's arm. “I'm sure he'll do just fine…” She replied, gazing up at him softly and he returned her loving stare.
If there was anything to be sure of… it was that they were definitely going to take very good care of one another.

Kagome sighed leaning her head up against the car window; watching the dark and chilly world whiz by. “Your parents are something aren't they?”
InuYasha laughed, “They've got their moments… what about your dad? When do I get to meet him huh?”
Kagome was silent for a moment and InuYasha glanced over at her… finding that her reflection in the window was frowning.
“Kagome…?”
“He died…” She replied quietly. “My parents both died a long time ago…”
Another pause… “I-I'm so sorry… I didn't-”
“It's okay…” Kagome coughed still staring out the window. “There's nothing anybody could have done anyway… the point is, your parents made me feel welcomed tonight and I loved it. Thank you…” She smiled weakly at the guilt felt boy.
“Do… do you have to go straight home?” InuYasha asked.
“No… I only said I was going to work tomorrow so we could leave… I don't work every other Friday or on weekends.” She replied. “Why?”
“I want to take you somewhere. It's not exactly romantic… but you'll like it.” InuYasha smirked.

Kagome soon found herself deep within the city of Tokyo, outside of a junky looking shop with a giant blinking sign that read: Al's Music Thrift Store. She quirked a brow and stared up at InuYasha in disbelief. “You're kidding right?”
“No, no! This is the greatest place to be when you want to buy music.” He laughed, opening the door for her. It triggered a bell that rang to give notice there was a costumer entering.
“But I'm not here to buy music.”
“Well I am… and I think you'll like what I get.” InuYasha replied, urging her to go inside.
She shrugged and entered the brightly lit store, where she found five other people including the cashier waltzing around searching through hundreds of CD cases. She walked around and searched through a few things before InuYasha rejoined her and handed her a CD. “Merry very early Christmas.” He smirked.
She examined the case he gave to her. It was his band's new CD, with him in the middle and the others behind him with big red and black scratched letters titled: Sinful Remedy. She snorted. “You dragged me all the way to this dingy place to buy me a CD?”
“Not just any CD… my CD… and I'll even autograph it for you if you want.” He grinned, pulling out a black pen from his coat. “Who should I make it out to? Kagome? Miss Heart Breaker? Or My damn freak ass hott girlfriend?”
Kagome laughed, pushing the CD back into his hands. “I don't want it you moron.”
“Aw, but come on… I drove all the way here just to get it for you.”
“Sounds like a personal problem.” She teased and began walking again.
InuYasha followed her. “Take the CD Kag, you know you want to…” he sang.
“Would you stop it!? You're embarrassing me!” She hissed, walking faster around the isles.
“I'm not going to stop pestering you until to take the CD.”
“No!”
“Take it!”
“I said no InuYasha!” Kagome laughed, running up and down the rows of CDs and weaving through the shelves; squealing every now and then when she ran into him again and quickly trying to dodge another reunion.
She turned in a circle to make sure he wasn't following her after she had finally lost him before she froze. There before her… was none other than a smirking Kikyo.
The smile vanished from Kagome's face and she swallowed hard.
“Good evening Kagome.” She greeted sweetly.
InuYasha quietly ran out from behind the isle that was behind the woman and froze when he saw the terrified expression on Kagome's face, noticing that the person with their back to him was Kikyo and his eyes widened.
Kagome's eyes traveled quickly from Kikyo, to InuYasha and then back to the girl… hoping the Kikyo hadn't noticed her brief switch of concentration. But it was an impossible hope… and as soon as InuYasha had turned and tried tip-toeing away, Kikyo had turned…
“InuYasha? Hunny is that you?” She called.
The boy stopped dead in his tracks and turned slowly, waving to her. “Hey Kik… uh… what's up?”
“Nothing much, just thought I'd pick up a few holiday CDs to brighten up my house.” She replied, holding up two cases titled Songs of the Seasons. “What about you? Did you have fun with your parents?”
“Just uh… picking up my new CD… and yeah I did… thanks for askin.”
There was what seemed to be an endless awkward moment of silence before Kikyo decided to speak again. “So… are you going to introduce me to your lady friend?”
“W-what lady friend?” InuYasha repeated innocently.
Kikyo turned and smiled at Kagome then glanced back at InuYasha. “Her, silly.”
The boy dug a hand deep into his pocket. “W-what makes you think I know her?”
“Oh come now hunny, she was calling out your name.” She replied, turning to give Kagome an outstretched hand. “Hi, I'm Kikyo InuYasha's fiancé. And you must be one of his employees at his father's company?”
Kagome shook the girl's hand and smiled; she had completely forgotten that InuYasha was her mission and Kikyo had no idea they were together. `She thinks that InuYasha doesn't know I'm a Heart Breaker agent…'
“Yes… my name is Kagome… I'm InuYasha's secretary. He uh… wanted to buy me an early Christmas gift to thank me for all the hard work I did for him over the year…”
“How sweet!” Kikyo cooed, turning back to InuYasha. “Well you two have a good night, I've got to get home so I can call a few friends and let them know I'm back. See you later… nice talking to you Kagome.” She walked up to InuYasha and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek before walking past him. Just before she left the store, she glanced back at Kagome and gave her a `thumbs up' as if to say good work!
And when she was gone, InuYasha and Kagome released the breath they were holding in.
“Shit… that was a close one…” InuYasha swallowed hard.
Kagome agreed. “A very close one… I think it's time you dropped me home now InuYasha.”
“Yeah… I think so too…”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The black Mitsubishi stopped outside of the Apartment complex where Kagome lived at and the couple walked up the stairs to her room instead of taking the elevator. Tonight had been quite hectic… with the requests of kids and a difficult and unexpected run in with fiancé's… things just couldn't possibly get worse. And thankfully, it didn't.
InuYasha and Kagome now found themselves congregating outside of apartment 178… a place that InuYasha was familiar with by now. Kagome smiled at him, fidgeting with her keys a moment before clapping her hands together and kissing his cheek. “Well… I had an interesting evening… I guess uh… I'll see you later.”
InuYasha smiled back awkwardly… though he didn't know why, “Yeah, sure.” He replied saluting to her before she disappeared into behind the metal door.
InuYasha stood there a moment before shrugging his shoulders and sauntering to the elevators, pressing the buttons for the lobby. He heard the sounds of a door squeaking open and saw Kagome rush back out to him.
“Yash… um hold on a sec…”
“Yeah?” He examined her distressed expression and it worried him.
“Um… you see the uh… dogs are at Sango's for the night and I uh… I just… wanted to know if uh…” She paused, not quite able to find the words she was looking for. “Never mind…”
InuYasha watched her run back into the apartment. He slowly made his way back over and counted to three before she opened the door again and stood in front of the door way.
“Yeah…?” He asked again hopefully.
Kagome swallowed hard… fidgeting with her fingers a moment or two before finally blurting it out. “Would you… would you like to stay the night?”
InuYasha grinned widely, “Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting to hear that from you?”
Kagome blushed like mad, “Oh… I… I'm sorry… but I just-”
InuYasha hushed her absent-minded rambling with a love filled kiss, and wrapping a strong arm around Kagome's tiny waist… he pushed the apartment door open with the other hand and they disappeared together in the penthouse apartment room of 178.
