Chap. 2

Lunch was a bust. He laid back onto his hands watching his friends run in circles playing football. The grass beneath his palms was soft almost as if it was welcoming him to rest his body on it. A breeze picked up into a bitter wind. He looked around spotting the girl in black watching him yet again as she always seemed to be doing.

He sighed and turned his gaze back to his friends. Miroku fell head over heels, the rest falling over him as if they had rehearsed it all along. “Come on Inu! You have to practice sometime why not now?” Miroku called over. The silver haired boy shook his head.

“Sorry Miroku not today.” He said rather harshly. He turned away again to find the girl gone from her perch and sitting with another like her.

Dark Sprites the others called them. They always wore black, never looked happy unless they were with others like themselves. At all times they wore facades when others would pass. He longed to know what was going on in their cliché. Just once he wanted to be in their shoes, but his status would be in danger if he talked to the Dark Sprites.

He could not risk that. He was too good for that. She laughed the sound carrying over the other chatter between them. He looked back at his friend's for the last time before standing, brushing himself off, and returning to class.

The day drew to a close far to slow for him. A game of Dare or Disaster was going on when he arrived at his circle of friends after school, a little later than normal. “So Inu, Dare or Disaster?” Miroku asked smugly.

“Dare.” He answered throwing his books down on the bench.

“I dare you, to ask out one of the Dark Sprites.” Miroku said coolly. The other boy's eyes widened proportionally.

“What kind of dare is that?” Kouga asked, quirking an eyebrow. “It is a simple task that would get him a no straight off.”

“There are rules to Dare and Disaster my friend. Just wait-” Miroku cleared his throat. “If you should fail in getting one of them to say yes, you have to walk butt naked from the front door to the locker rooms the day of our homecoming game, saying if asked you did not have clothes for that day. That gives you a month my dear Inu, one month to A) Catch a Sprite or B) Be planning how fast you are going to run through the school.” Miroku almost laughed at the last thing.

“I accept your challenge, let us add something more to the mix. If I succeed in getting a Sprite- You are to pay for 1) Our dates, 2) Her homecoming dress, and 3) If it lasts that long- god forbid- Her prom dress.” Inu said leaning against his own knee for support.

“You are on.” Kouga said for Miroku. “I will pay for her prom dress and part of the dates if Miroku covers the rest.” With a smile on all of their faces they parted for their own reasons scattering like there was never a thing said.

Inu had an uneasy feeling as he looked over to where the Dark Sprites usually sat. And there they were staring at each other as if they were communicating silently. Then he saw they were holding hands. Was it possible that he wouldn't be able to win this bet because their sexual preferences were… different. Suddenly he winced.

Damn Miroku, if he knew something Inu did not it would be something like that. But he had to win this. His manly hood depended on it. “You are in trouble, Inu.” He whispered, and at that moment his artist looked straight at him with blackened bright blue eyes. Their eyes stayed staring at each other for a moment then she looked away to her friend, murmuring something. They both rose and headed toward him.

His heart nearly stopped when they came close to him. Suddenly breathing became a struggle, a battle more like it. He nearly bit a hole in his lip as they came with in inches of him, stepping just beside him and past. He could have sworn he saw the artist sneak a look at him out of the corner of her eye. Then the other girl caught up her hand and parted from her, flinging her back pack into an open window of a car and hopping in the front seat.

As one girl drove away with who ever was in the car, the other walked towards the football field stands entrance. Inu was intrigued, he had to admit. His feet moved with out his consent, following her with a slow and steady pace. She climbed to the top of the rafters leaning on the back support of wood.

He stood underneath her looking up, and watching her take out her sketch book. “Tioshi?!” He heard the coach call out from the field. Suddenly he realized it was a practice day. He silently cursed himself and rushed to the field.

“Sorry coach I have other priorities today and can not stay for practice.” He said as soon as he approached. The coach nodded silently, dismissing him. “Thank you.” He ran back to his place only to find The Dark Sprite had packed up her things and disappeared as if she had never been there in the first place.
