Chap. 11

“Kagome!” Sango sounded almost happy as she jumped on her friend shoulders. “I heard about last night.”

Kagome gave no expression. “What'd you hear?”

“That you fell asleep in his arms.”

Kagome smiled. “True.”

“That you got some.” Sango said untrustingly.

“False.” Kagome said almost laughing.

“And that he found out about your arms.”

Kagome lowered her eyes but didn`t stop smiling. “Truth. Wow, rumors are very truthful.”

“Kagome….” Sango growled.

Kagome looked at her friend. “What?”

“It's just…”

“Don't worry, Sango.”

“Yeah, Sango don't worry.” Inu said coming up behind Kagome and kissing her cheek softly.

“Oh look it's Inu.” Sango said rolling her eyes.

“We have English my love.” Inu said softly. “Better not be late. You worked hard on that poem.”

Kagome smiled then leaned forward kissing Sango's cheek. “I love you Sango.” Kagome whispered before pulling away and taking Inu's hand. “See you after school.”

“Yeah.” Sango smiled back. “Get to English you love birds, Before I puke.”

They all laughed then went their separate ways. Sango knew this change was good for Kagome, but she couldn't help but feel left out. She watched the couple move through the crowd with saddened eyes. “Sango?” A whisper behind her startled her. And she turned to find Inu's friend.

“Yes? Is there something you need?” She asked softly. Her dark eyes searched his face before meeting his eyes.

“I wanted to know if you…” He took a deep breath. “If you will go out with me?”

Kagome sat in the back, Inu taking his original seat up front. The people gathered around him glancing at her first then sitting. The teacher entered a little late and disorganized.

When the teacher was finally ready he turned to the class. “I suspect everyone wrote their poems.” A few grumbles went up from the crowd. “If you didn't I will give you another day but those who did may present today. And I prefer you to, because next class will be very full.”

Kagome looked at her paper, reading it over again and again. “Can I have volunteers?”

Several people raised their hands, but it was Kagome the teacher was looking at. Her eyes scanned the paper again. Gods she made it so hard on herself. When she looked up under the feel of eyes she found most everyone looking at her. “Kagome would you read your poem?”

“Yes sir.” She said softly. Everyone almost let out a gasp. Kagome didn't argue? Laughable. Something was different. Definitely different.

She cleared her throat of the lump it had in it.

“You forgot me long ago
My God…
How could I not see?
Am I that unwanted?
Am I so mortal?

Please forgive me
But I won't be back again
I know what you'll say
Heaven is better than Hell

You forgot her long ago
My Lord
How could she not see?
Is she that unwanted?
Is she so mortal?

Listen to me
Fallen angel that I am
My God this is my plea
Can you hear me?

You forgot us long ago
My God
How could we not see?
Are we all that unwanted?
Are we all so mortal?”

She stopped for a moment smiled then started again.

“How could we not see?
We are all unwanted creatures
No power have we?
Are we that powerless?

You forgot us long ago
My God
How could we not see?
Are we that unwanted?
Are we that childish?

You only see
What I want you to see
How do you know the real me?
This façade is lacking

You forgot me long ago
My God
How could I not see?
Am I that misunderstood?
Am I that childish?
Am I that unwanted?”

She looked away from everyone and down to the floor. Kagome sat looking down at her desk. “Very good Kagome. I applaud you.” The teacher clapped softly.

“If you liked it so much can I ask you a question about it?” Kagome asked softly.

The teacher thought for a second. “Yeah sure why not?”

“What do you think it was about?” Kagome met the teachers eyes. Something she rarely did unless she was challenging them.

“Is this a trick question?”

“Perhaps.” She shrugged. “But I want to know what you think.”

“I think it's about God forsaking us. But this one girl, a fallen angel she calls herself, pleads with him to know if he really has forsaken us- the mortals. And in the end she finds that she is forsaking herself, hiding herself from what is real perhaps in a relationship or in life itself where everyone misunderstands her.” The teacher said thinking carefully as he talked.

“Now who's giving the lessons?” Someone said softly. Kagome pinpointed the voice.

“The only one giving you lessons Kikyou is your multitude of boyfriends.” Kagome snapped.

This got a laugh from the class and a look from her. “You really think so? And what are you doing with Inu? Like he can go that long without it.” She gave Kagome a questioning look.

“At least I didn't fuck him on the first date.”

“Alright ladies that's quite enough.” The teacher said, stepping between the two.

Kikyou didn't stop though. “At least I don't cut myself.”

A fire lit in Kagome's eyes then. A deadly and predatorily fire. She flew from the desk, up and over the row of desks next to her, around the teacher and straight at Kikyou. “Don't you ever bring that up.” Her hand wrapped in Kikyou's shirt collar and took her straight to a wall. The back of the other girl's head slammed against the stone hard. Tears filled her eyes. “You`re so weak, you`re not even worth it.” Kagome dropped the girl and then left, storming out of the door.
