OK so here is the problem, I had a very specific Epilogue in mind, but as I started to write it got hijacked and all of this stuff just started to come out and I ended up with what I am now calling Epilogue Version 2, it has all sorts of biographical information that must have been floating around in my head. Once I had gotten all of that stuff out of my system I went back and wrote the Epilogue Version 1 which was my original idea.

Epilogue – Version 1
Kagome sighed as she stepped out the small structure which enclosed the Bone Eaters Well. It had been almost three years and the well was still closed, but Kagome would not give up, she had to get back. Get back to her InuYasha, get back to the only man she would ever love.
As Kagome slowly walked back to the house she noticed someone just arriving at the top of the shrine’s stairs. Looking to see who was visiting the shrine, Kagome could not believe her eyes. No she must be seeing things. It was a tall man, impeccably dressed in an expensive suit, but that was not what caught her eye. The tall man had long silver hair, amber eyes, and was quite possibly the most beautiful man in all of Japan. He also had human ears, human teeth and human finger nails. There was also a noticeable lack of demon markings on his cheeks and there defiantly was no crescent moon on his forehead, yet beyond any shadow of a doubt this man was Sesshomaru, demon Lord of the West.
Kagome froze where she was, what was Sesshomaru up to?
Noting the wary look the young miko was giving him; Sesshomaru smiled and held up his hand. The Demon Lord then carefully removed a gold signet ring and suddenly there stood Lord Sesshomaru still in his elegant suit but also in all his youkai glory. “Have no fear Kagome, I mean you no harm, in fact I am here by your own request and there are many important things that you have instructed me to tell you. The well will allow you to return to the past in just a matter of days, allow you to return to InuYasha and there are things you must know and things you must do. When InuYasha asks you to marry him you will say yes, but when he asks you to become his mate you will say no…..”

Epilogue – Version 2

The tall man had long silver hair, amber eyes, and was quite possibly he most beautiful man in all of Japan. He also had human ears, human teeth and human finger nails. There was also a noticeable lack of demon markings on his cheeks and there defiantly was no crescent moon on his forehead, yet beyond any shadow of a doubt this man was Sesshomaru, demon Lord of the West.
Kagome froze where she was, what was Sesshomaru up to?
Noting the wary look the young miko was giving him; Sesshomaru smiled and held up his hand. The Demon Lord then carefully removed a gold signet ring and suddenly there stood Lord Sesshomaru still in his elegant suit but also in all his youkai glory. “Have no fear Kagome, I mean you no harm, in fact I am here by your own request.”
Now Kagome was really confused, by her own request? She had no memory of ever really having any sort of conversation with Sesshomaru and she certainly had no memory of ever making a request of him, unless you counted yelling at the Demon Lord not to kill his brother!
Suddenly Kagome realized if Sesshomaru was still alive InuYasha could also still be around. Gathering her courage Kagome hesitantly began to speak “Sesshomaru is InuYasha still alive?”
The Demon Lord only smiled gently in response and pointing at the bench that sat at the base of Goshinboku and replied. “Let us sit and I will answer as many of your questions as I dare.”
Kagome gingerly sat next to the great Taiyouaki, she knew Sesshomaru was not the sort of person who could be rushed, prodding would not really help.
Seeing that Kagome intended on letting him take the lead Sesshomaru began “Let me start by assuring you that InuYasha is alive and quite well. He is not here simply because he felt it would hurt too much.”
After a quick glance that assured him that Kagome was going to let him explain everything in his own way Sesshomaru continued. “First let me say that in a matter of a few days the well will open for you one last time and allow you to return to InuYasha. InuYasha could not bear to come here today for the simple reason that after many happy years of marriage you finally died of old age. InuYasha took your death very hard and even after all of these centuries he refers to you as the only woman he ever truly loved.”
Kagome was stunned; she would return to her InuYasha in a matter of days, marry him and finally die of old age. This was quite a lot for a young girl of eighteen to absorb in such a short span of time. Still Kagome was not sure just why Sesshomaru was here, she had been checking on the well every few days; her mother knew that if it did open she would not hesitate in jumping through to return to her hanyou.
Kagome bit her lip, and taking a deep breath decided to risk asking InuYasha’s imposing brother a few questions. “Sesshomaru, first off thank you for letting me know that the well will open, I’ll be able to properly say goodbye to my grandfather, brother and mother. They will feel much better knowing that I will live a long and happy life with InuYasha, but I’m still not sure why you are here or why you are telling me all of this.”
Sesshomaru once again graced Kagome with a small smile and deciding to end all of the mystery and plunged into his explanation. “Kagome let me once again reiterate that I am here because you told me that I had to come, that I must come. After you returned to the past, married InuYasha and had children, as odd as this may sound; we finally became very good friends. Eventually InuYasha, your children and you moved to my castle. One day you asked me to take a walk with you in your favorite garden, you sat me down and you told me that several days before your return to the past, I came to see you here at the shrine. You then proceeded to tell me almost everything that I had told you that day, so that when this day came for me I would be able to complete the loop. You were telling me about your past so that in my future I would know to come here. I know this is a bit much to grasp, but you should know as well as anyone how confusing time travel and its consequences can be.”
Kagome was stunned and slightly confused. Squinting slightly in thought she ventured to speak. “So you’re telling me that I go back to the past, marry InuYasha and eventually tell you that you have to come here to tell me that I will be returning to the past?”
“I knew you would grasp the timeline, but I did not come here to just tell you that you would be returning to the past. There is vial information I must give you before you return, also you told me that I let you know how InuYasha and your children would fare after you’re own passing. Of course you did not share any of that information with me at the time, you did not want me to know about my own future, but you did want me to tell you what would happen.”
As Kagome continued to absorb this wild information Sesshomaru pulled out a clear plastic sleeve which held an ancient slip of parchment or paper. He handed the sleeve to Kagome who was stunned to realize that the ancient paper was covered with her own handwriting.
“You did not want me to forget any of the important details so you wrote them down. As you can see the first and most important point is that when InuYasha asks you to marry him you will say yes, but when he asks you to become his mate, you will have to say no.”
There it was all mapped out, every wise move Kagome would make in her long life, spelled out in no uncertain words. She would not mate InuYasha fearing that he would follow her into the land of the dead, she would insist on hanyou children conceived during the full moon, she would send InuYasha to help his brother in battle to become respected as Sesshomaru’s general. She would suggest the move to Sesshomaru’s castle after the death of Miroku and Sango and she would agree whole heartedly to the mating of her son and daughter to each other.
Pulling Kagome’s attention away from the ancient paper Sesshomaru continued “InuYasha always referred to you as “wise” and we all eventually agreed with him, you never ceased to amaze us with your insight into matters pertaining to both humans and youkai.”
Seeing that he had Kagome’s full attention the great Taiyoukai continued “It will be very hard for you to say no to InuYasha when he asks you to become his mate, but you must be strong. If you do become his mate, when you die so will he, and then your pups will be without both mother and father. When you send InuYasha to aid me in battle, he will show his true brilliance and eventually he will become not just general of all my armies, but because you eventually move to my castle he will also become head of my militia and he will even take over every aspect of security in our Western domain. Because you accept that incest among youkai and hanyou actually weeds out genetic problems instead of intensifying them as it does in humans, your son and daughter will mate and produce eight near pure youkai pups of such power and beauty that they are held as examples of youkai perfection.”
At this revelation Kagome started “I’m sorry, I’m going to let my children – I mean pups – mate with each other? I know Sango told me youkai do those kind of things, but I’m really going to be OK with that?”
Sesshomaru’s smile grew larger and turning his head towards the long stairway leading up to the shrine called out “Pups come and say hello to your grandmother!”
Kagome could only stare as six men and two women topped the stairs. They all had long silver hair and amber eyes. They were all dressed in what Kagome could only call ‘expensive casual’, they all appeared to be in their early twenties and they all appeared to be human.
As Sesshomaru waved they all cautiously approached, then each one in turn removed near identical signet rings and there stood eight impossibly beautiful Inu youkai. Most of them had pointed ears like Sesshomaru, though two had Inu ears just like InuYasha. All of them also sported demon markings, different variations of the ones InuYasha sported in his demon form.
“These are your grandchildren, Kagome” Sesshomaru’s voice startled Kagome out of her contemplation of the beautiful youkai.
Having once again captured Kagome’s attention Sesshomaru continued. “The combination of InuYasha’s strong youkai and your own strong spiritual powers have combined to make your grandchildren quite special and powerful. The eldest is Hajme, then come the twins Makoto and his sister Minori – they’re mated by the way, though that was not of our doing. From birth they would scream if they were not put in the same crib and they have been inseparable ever since, they started calling each other mate by the time they were three years old. After the twins comes Kazuhiko, he’s mated to his older brother Hajme. Then we get to all the young ones, none of them are mated yet, Masahiko and then his brother Tadashi, finally we get another girl Miyuki and then last, but not least the last son Rokuro. As you can see only Masahiko and Miyuki inherited their grandfather’s Inu ears. By the way, this is a perfect example as to why there are so many male to male youkai matings. Youkai tend to produce many more male offspring than female. Most male higher youkai in fact are capable of baring young, though most require the help of special herbs, which with the aid of modern science, we discovered contain high quantities of estrogen among other rare compounds.”
As Kagome took in the sight of the grandchildren she would never live to see born, Sesshomaru bit his lip and taking a deep breath added “Kagome, there are two others I would like for you to meet. After your passing, InuYasha did finally find his destined mate, and his children from that mating are here to meet you, I now realize that you always knew who InuYasha’s mate would be, all those years you were married.”
Seeing that Kagome was staring at the normally impassive Taiyoukai, Sesshomaru decided to plunge ahead and in a rush explained “Kagome after you passed InuYasha and I became mates. We had truly grown to love each other. InuYasha even insisted on taking the herbs that would allow him to bare my pups. We have a son and a daughter; do you want to meet them? I’ll understand it if you don’t.”
Now poor Kagome was really floored, InuYasha not only would take his brother as his mate, but he would become a ‘mother’?
Seeing how her whole life was already planned out for her Kagome shrugged her shoulders and ventured “I doesn’t look like I will have much choice in my life, I guess I might as well meet your children.”
To say that Sesshomaru was disturbed would be an understatement so the youkai Lord quickly decided to set his dear friend straight. “Kagome, you do not realize the power you hold, do you? All you have to do is ignore your own advice and live your future any way you want. All of this will change and no one will be the wiser, not InuYasha not me. I have only come here today because you told me to. Change any of the things you do in the past and these children will never be born. Take InuYasha as a mate and he may decide to die with you, keep him from becoming my general and he and I may never become as close as we did. Forbid your children from mating each other and these children will not be born, nor will the children InuYasha and I have. You have all the power, our future is yours to shape.”
After a few moments of thought Kagome slowly spoke. “I think I would like to meet your children Sesshomaru.”
As if on cue, two more ‘people’ appeared at the top of the stairs; however these two immediately removed their concealment charms.
Kagome could only stare in wonderment, they were perfection. Tall, silver haired, amber eyed, their demon markings seemed to be a combination of the geometric perfection of Sesshomaru’s and the jagged edged wildness of InuYasha’s youkai markings. The male had a blue crescent moon on his forehead identical to Sesshomaru’s, while the female had a mirror image red crescent moon on her forehead. But it was their faces, as beautiful as Kagome’s grandchildren were these two were in an entirely different class. They even put Sesshomaru’s beauty to shame.
When Kagome finally found her voice she turned to Sesshomaru and gasped, “They’re beyond words, their youkai is overwhelming. They might grow to be stronger than you someday!”
Sesshomaru almost beamed “Yes InuYasha and I are quite proud of them, our son Yoichi is to be mated to your granddaughter Miyuki, our daughter Kimiko on the other hand is being courted by half the ruling youkai in the land. To be quite honest all the other ruling families feared these two would mate each other; the resulting pups would be ridiculously powerful so we decided that perhaps we should hold back a bit.”
As the two youkai moved to join the others, Kagome realized her own children were missing from the group. Once again turning to the great lord she inquired “Sesshomaru is there a reason my own children are not here?”
Sighing Sesshomaru replied “They feared to leave InuYasha alone; I do not think he ever has really gotten over your death. Even if he had not accepted me as his mate, he would have only mated with another male, he told me that you would be the only woman he would ever love or make love to. Your children and grandchildren are a great comfort to him. He has always been there for all of them, and he has been a wonderful loving parent to our own children.”
Taking another deep breadth Sesshomaru continued “There is something else, your children and grandchildren would very much like to meet your family, for it is also their family. InuYasha has always had the greatest regard for your mother; I know he would very much like to see her again.”
And so Kagome, her grandchildren and InuYasha’s and Sesshomaru’s children sat and talked, each grandchild telling her of their accomplishments until Sesshomaru indicated that it was time for them to go.
Each grandchild came and embraced their grandmother, then InuYasha and Sesshomaru’s children, and then, much to Kagome’s surprise, Sesshomaru took her in his arms for a brief hug.
As Kagome looked up at the great Taiyoukai she smiled and quietly spoke “Thank you so much for giving me glimpse of the future. I’m going to go and say goodbye to my family now, but I’ll let them know that InuYasha and you will be bringing them lots of new family to meet. I’m not sure how grandfather will deal with so many youkai in the family, but Souta and mother will love each and every one of them. Thank you – and tell InuYasha how much I love him and how I intend of cherishing every moment I have with him. Tell him how proud I am of him and all of the children and Sesshomaru tell him how happy I am that he found his mate.”
Then in an instant Kagome was running back to her house and Sesshomaru, the great Taiyoukai Lord of the Western lands smiled and marveled at a young human’s great wisdom.

Then we get to all the young ones, none of them are mated yet, Masahiko and then his brother Tadashi, finally we get another girl Miyuki and then last, but not least the last son Rokuro. As you can see only Masahiko and Miyuki inherited their grandfather’s Inu ears. By the way, this is a perfect example as to why there are so many male to male youkai matings. Youkai tend to produce many more male offspring than female. Most male higher youkai in fact are capable of baring young, though most require the help of special herbs, which with the aid of modern science, we discovered contain high quantities of estrogen among other rare compounds.”
As Kagome took in the sight of the grandchildren she would never live to see born, Sesshomaru bit his lip and taking a deep breath added “Kagome, there are two others I would like for you to meet. After your passing, InuYasha did finally find his destined mate, and his children from that mating are here to meet you, I now realize that you always knew who InuYasha’s mate would be, all those years you were married.”
Seeing that Kagome was staring at the normally impassive Taiyoukai, Sesshomaru decided to plunge ahead and in a rush explained “Kagome after you passed InuYasha and I became mates. We had truly grown to love each other. InuYasha even insisted on taking the herbs that would allow him to bare my pups. We have a son and a daughter; do you want to meet them? I’ll understand it if you don’t.”
Now poor Kagome was really floored, InuYasha not only would take his brother as his mate, but he would become a ‘mother’?
Seeing how her whole life was already planned out for her Kagome shrugged her shoulders and ventured “I doesn’t look like I will have much choice in my life, I guess I might as well meet your children.”
To say that Sesshomaru was disturbed would be an understatement so the youkai Lord quickly decided to set his dear friend straight. “Kagome, you do not realize the power you hold, do you? All you have to do is ignore your own advice and live your future any way you want. All of this will change and no one will be the wiser, not InuYasha not me. I have only come here today because you told me to. Change any of the things you do in the past and these children will never be born. Take InuYasha as a mate and he may decide to die with you, keep him from becoming my general and he and I may never become as close as we did. Forbid your children from mating each other and these children will not be born, nor will the children InuYasha and I have. You have all the power, our future is yours to shape.”
After a few moments of thought Kagome slowly spoke. “I think I would like to meet your children Sesshomaru.”
As if on cue, two more ‘people’ appeared at the top of the stairs; however these two immediately removed their concealment charms.
Kagome could only stare in wonderment, they were perfection. Tall, silver haired, amber eyed, their demon markings seemed to be a combination of the geometric perfection of Sesshomaru’s and the jagged edged wildness of InuYasha’s youkai markings. The male had a blue crescent moon on his forehead identical to Sesshomaru’s, while the female had a mirror image red crescent moon on her forehead. But it was their faces, as beautiful as Kagome’s grandchildren were these two were in an entirely different class. They even put Sesshomaru’s beauty to shame.
When Kagome finally found her voice she turned to Sesshomaru and gasped, “They’re beyond words, their youkai is overwhelming. They might grow to be stronger than you someday!”
Sesshomaru almost beamed “Yes InuYasha and I are quite proud of them, our son Yoichi is to be mated to your granddaughter Miyuki, our daughter Kimiko on the other hand is being courted by half the ruling youkai in the land. To be quite honest all the other ruling families feared these two would mate each other; the resulting pups would be ridiculously powerful so we decided that perhaps we should hold back a bit.”
As the two youkai moved to join the others, Kagome realized her own children were missing from the group. Once again turning to the great lord she inquired “Sesshomaru is there a reason my own children are not here?”
Sighing Sesshomaru replied “They feared to leave InuYasha alone; I do not think he ever has really gotten over your death. Even if he had not accepted me as his mate, he would have only mated with another male, he told me that you would be the only woman he would ever love or make love to. Your children and grandchildren are a great comfort to him. He has always been there for all of them, and he has been a wonderful loving parent to our own children.”
Taking another deep breadth Sesshomaru continued “There is something else, your children and grandchildren would very much like to meet your family, for it is also their family. InuYasha has always had the greatest regard for your mother; I know he would very much like to see her again.”
And so Kagome, her grandchildren and InuYasha’s and Sesshomaru’s children sat and talked, each grandchild telling her of their accomplishments until Sesshomaru indicated that it was time for them to go.
Each grandchild came and embraced their grandmother, then InuYasha and Sesshomaru’s children, and then, much to Kagome’s surprise, Sesshomaru took her in his arms for a brief hug.
As Kagome looked up at the great Taiyoukai she smiled and quietly spoke “Thank you so much for giving me glimpse of the future. I’m going to go and say goodbye to my family now, but I’ll let them know that InuYasha and you will be bringing them lots of new family to meet. I’m not sure how grandfather will deal with so many youkai in the family, but Souta and mother will love each and every one of them. Thank you – and tell InuYasha how much I love him and how I intend of cherishing every moment I have with him. Tell him how proud I am of him and all of the children and Sesshomaru tell him how happy I am that he found his mate.”
Then in an instant Kagome was running back to her house and Sesshomaru, the great Taiyoukai Lord of the Western lands smiled and marveled at a young human’s great wisdom.
