The house was quiet all but the sound of the grandfather clock in the living room. There Kagome stood shocked at the request she just heard. “Inu…Ya...sha…” Just the mere look of lust and love in the hanyou's eyes answered her questions of doubt. “I love you Kagome, please don't stand there in silence…I need you so much. It kills me when you go through that well and tell me to stay there. Time and time again I watch you jump through, never knowing whether I'll ever see you again…please Kagome...tell me that you love me.”

 

All the arguments, the sittings, the arrogance and down right stupidity flew out the window, and there stood a hanyou, confessing his love to a girl who never even know if he had the least bit of compassion for her. “Inu...Ya...sha… I love you… I've always loved you I just thought that….you know… with the promise you made to Kikuyu…” A flash of anger could be seen in his eyes. “I don't want her! She reeks of grave yard dirt and clay and could never fill the place you have in my heart. Tell me Kagome, if I wanted her, do you think I would've ever come back to you all those times I went to her if I didn't truly love you?!”

 

Before she could answer his protests of love, she felt warm, soft, lips crashing down on hers. InuYasha asked her again, holding his beloved around her waist with pleading lustful eyes,” Kagome…will you be my mate?” The all too familiar look InuYasha was used to when Kagome would think of where a fragment of the Shikon jewel shard could be next feel upon her face. But this time, this look, was not what he wanted at all. His ears pinned to his head as he loosened his grip. He started to feel a familiar feeling creep up his spine. Rejection. `What was I thinking how she could love a lowly hanyou like me…maybe Sesshomaru was right…bastard....'

 

“I'm…I'm sorry…I didn't mean to push somethin' like this on you. I jus' wanted you so bad…that I….” In mid sentence he stopped to the salty scent that crossed his way. `Is…she crying? OH GOSH she's gonna sit me to hell for this' “Kagome please don't cry please please I didn't mean to…” “Shush InuYasha….these aren't tears of sadness. I've waited for so long to hear you say those words….it hurts me so bad to see you go off to Kikyou every times she's near…if feelings could kill, I'd be dead a hundred times over by now.” His heart did a summersault as he lifted her up kissing her with a passion he so longed to give her. For the third and final time, that question left his lips “Kagome….will you be...” “YES INUYASHA YES!” Kagome kissed him back, wrapping her fingers in his long beautiful hair. He kissed her back this time with more urgency than passion. As he set her down gently on the couch and prepared her for the ritual he'd witness countless youkai do. “ Since you accepted my proposal to be your mate, we have to um…you know…how you humans in your time say…'Do it'…there's a number of things that Myogua told me that we have to do.” Kagome sat there in awe as she listened to some of the things being listed. Turning redder than a beet, she had one question on her mind.” InuYasha…does this have to be done all at once? I mean Mom, Souta, and Grandpa will be gone to my aunt's house for a week starting tomorrow…do you want to come back tomorrow or stay another day?” “It takes 3 days to complete the ritual, so we can go back tonight but we must be here tomorrow. Oh and Kagome don't tell the others about this until were ready.” With a nod of acceptance, Kagome grabbed her bag, went to the kitchen to pack ramen, and headed off to the well with InuYasha as the blue light engulfed them both.

“Oi! Shut up runt!” InuYasha yelled to the kitsune. Shippou started his normal teasing after each battle, of how he could have done better than InuYasha himself. “Shippou, that's enough, we've had a long and tired day and need much rest. Kagome?” Sango jeered Kagome from her thoughts of the events of last night. She had so much on her mind and was all too nervous about the events to come. She had told Sango about last night and how her feelings toward the hanyou changed. She grew a deeper appreciation for him that burned with the love she wanted to express so much. She was also proud of him that he could finally open up to her without looking away or only hearing a `Feh' from him every other time. She realized that InuYasha wasn't the type of person to wear his heart on his shoulder or weep when an innocent person died because of Naraku's evil ways. The overbearing, annoying, chauvinistic, rude, arrogant, bad mannered, hot tempered hanyou, turned into the loving caring, sensitive, loyal, and patient hanyou she never knew existed. And better yet he was hers.

He caught her staring at him in the glow of the campfire and immediately started turning a light shade of red. “Whatcha' lookin' at wench?!” With a tiny laugh she realized something else to, he let his pride get the better of him and won't display the type of feelings he poured into her the night before. `Oh my stubborn hanyou, I guess love doesn't cure all things....' “Nothing InuYasha I was just thinking that's all.” Little did they know that Miroku knew what was going on? Earlier that day as the girls were talking he stumbled upon their conversation on his way back from relieving himself. Being as nosy as he is he dropped the bomb. “So you took Kagome as your mate huh?” If words could kill InuYasha would have keeled over and died. “How….did you…Kagooommmeeee?!” “I didn't tell him honestly!” The look on her face put to rest all suspensions. “ Oh they didn't tell me, I over heard them talking on my way back from relieving myself, you know you girls should be more careful of how you tell your secrets to each other, you never know who might be listening!” With a chuckle he glared at InuYasha seeing the look of embarrassment and laughed even harder almost falling over. “Why you…I'll give u somethin' to laugh about monk!” As he got up to give the monk a beating Kagome yelled to him warningly. Seeing as how he ignored it she had no choice but to say those dreadful words “InuYasha, osuwari” “Gah!” With a thud he hit the ground beneath him eating dirt while the monk laughed even harder. His laughing abruptly stopped as he saw the look on Sango's face. Whatever Sango was going to do to the monk must be twice as worse as what InuYasha could have done to him. “Sango my sweet why are you…….” “You insensitive, eavesdropping, lecherous monk why I never!” “Sango… wait… NO!” “HIRAKOTSU!” Kagome and InuYasha couldn't help but laugh as Sango threatened to kill him all the way down the road. InuYasha couldn't help but smile “I swear the monk never learns his lesson.”
