Chapter 2
I do not own Inuyasha.

Kohaku had been running down the riverbank, avoiding his furious sister. He’d accidentally upset the newest baby. Miroku hadn’t been joking when he said he loved kids. Five of them, five!! Kohaku couldn’t believe it. What on earth had possessed him? Kohaku liked girls just as much as the next guy and he was no virgin. He enjoyed sex, but to actually have five kids?! And with his sister! The thought made him shudder. He glanced out onto the river and looked away, only to look back with an exclamation. He jumped into the river and swiftly grabbed the thing he was being carried away by it. Ignoring his embarrassment at touching a female body, he pulled the girl out of the river and lifted away her hair to reveal her face. He turned pale and gulped nervously. Tilting her head back and realizing he’d have to do that CPR thing Kagome had showed him, he inhaled deeply. Finally the familiar girl coughed and spluttered up a tremendous amount of water and opened her eyes.

She flinched and screamed when she recognized him. He grabbed her hand and held it for a moment. “It’s alright,” he whispered. Quickly, he took of his shirt and pulled it down over her head. It was easily longer and reached past her thighs. She smiled tentatively and weakly said, “Hello Kohaku-kun, long time no see.” He smiled and helped her up. “It’s been a while, that’s for sure. Tell me what happened, while I take you over to Sango’s, okay Rin-san?” he said softly lifting her into his arms. He smelt wonderful, fresh and clean and he felt solid, she loved the way he moved. She leaned her head against his shoulder and was lulled to sleep by his even breathing. Kohaku was amazed when she fell asleep in his arms. “Nice way to treat someone who tried to kill you,” he murmured.

Sesshoumaru had brought the only youkai doctor he knew. Kamui was another inu youkai, who had a very wide knowledge of healing properties above most youkai. “Well, Sesshoumaru-sama, where’s my patient?” he asked cheerfully. Sesshoumaru sniffed, “Down by the river.” He and Kamui made their way to the river and Kamui called out, “Rin-san, we’re coming over.” No one answered. Puzzled Kamui called out again, “Rin-san?” Sesshoumaru strode forward, he didn’t care if he saw someone naked, but realizing it might be Rin had made him hesitate. Her clothing was discarded on the bank, but Rin was no where to be found. Kamui looked around, “Sesshoumaru-sama?” Sesshoumaru grit his teeth invisibly and calmly said, “We have to run with the current.” He took off like a bullet leaving Kamui staring in shock. He followed Sesshoumaru’s scent desperately.

Kohaku was almost there, he was getting tired and he really wasn’t in the mood to be teased-as he knew he would be by Miroku-for carrying a barely covered, enticingly pretty girl in his arms. Suddenly a snarl made him whirl and he came face to face with a red-eyed Sesshoumaru. He barely had time to react before Sesshoumaru-in a swift motion-took Rin, deposited her on the ground gently and lifted Kohaku off the ground by his neck. Rin blearily opened her eyes and took in the scene before her with horrified shock.

“Sesshoumaru-sama!” she cried. “Please, let him go.” Kohaku gasped and kicked for air desperately, his anger and slight fear coming off him in waves. At the point Sesshoumaru was at, if anyone else had told him to stop, they would have been instantly slaughtered, but because it was Rin, he regained his composure and lowered Kohaku to the ground. She went to help Kohaku sit up when someone grabbed her around the waist and twirled her. “Rin-san!” cried a familiar voice. Sesshoumaru bit back a growl at Kamui. Kamui was the only doctor Rin had ever seen since she’d been with Sesshoumaru. She giggled and hugged him friendlily. Kohaku looked up in amazement as the very dog-acting inu youkai doctor bent down and checked his neck. “You’ll live and have a very happy life,” Kamui proclaimed. He looked up at Rin and raised an eyebrow. “Nice outfit Rin-san,” he commented, earning a very low growl from Sesshoumaru and an uncomprehensive grin from Rin.

Kamui helped Kohaku up and asked, “Is there some place you were headed, friend?” Kohaku hesitated but Rin shot him a warm smile and he replied, “Yes, my sister’s house, it’s not far from here.” Kamui picked up Kohaku and Sesshoumaru grabbed Rin-as if by unspoken word-and they shot towards where they both saw and smelt firewood burning. Miroku was rubbing a sore cheek outside of the hut when he sensed two very powerful youkai approach. His ever present staff’s rings clinked together and Miroku said over his shoulder, “Sango, let me handle this one.”

Sango’s eyes widened at the sight of a protesting Kohaku being held by a very handsome youkai and by Sesshoumaru lagging a little behind him with an exhausted Rin. Miroku hid a smile behind his hand and cried out, “Welcome home, Kohaku. Brought new friends with you this time?” Kohaku cursed as Kamui deposited him and in a flash he approached Sango. “Aren’t you beautiful?! Have we met before?” Miroku’s staff hit him clearly on the head and Kamui turned to see an innocent-looking Miroku adjusting his hand wrap. Kamui sighed unhappily, “Well I guess it only makes sense you’re taken.” Sango blushed fetchingly and looked at Kamui uneasily. He smiled and with a flourish asked, “May we use you’re lovely home? Rin-san is not well and I would hate to have to expose her-in her fragile condition-to the harsh outdoors for too long.” Sango smiled and answered shyly, “Of course.” Miroku felt a pang of jealousy and walked over to Sango to wrap a protective arm around her (somehow after five kids) still slim waist. Kamui chuckled, “Yes Mister Husband, I’m not going to touch your lovely wife.” Sesshoumaru acknowledge their hospitality with a slight nod, and Miroku sighed. “I guess that’s his thank you.”

Sango took in Rin’s poor shape and her maternal instinct went haywire. “Get her in here, right now,” she ordered briskly. Sesshoumaru obeyed, knowing full well that women were always very accurate about-well, womanly matters. What did a man know anyways about such things? He placed Rin down and she greeted Sango cheerily. Sango smiled and brushed back her long black hair. “You’re growing up so lovely, Rin-chan.” Charmingly, Rin grinned and thanked her. Turning to the men in the room she ordered them to make themselves comfy while she quickly reviewed the situation. “Start from the beginning,” she said softly to Rin. “And ignore the men.”

Rin explained how she had been woken by Jaken and the bleeding, and her fainting and Kohaku saving her and Sesshoumaru and Kamui showing up and how frightened she was about dying. Sango started to laugh. Rin looked up, hurt in her large brown eyes. Sango kissed her head, “I’m not laughing at you Rin, I’m laughing at the stupidity of men. Of course they would no nothing about your bleeding. It’s perfectly normal.” Rin blinked. Kamui stood, “I’m not that silly. May I explain, Lovely?” Sango blushed and nodded. Kamui sat next to Rin and began.

“When a girl reaches a certain age-usually it is a bit younger-something happens to her body which declares her a young woman. It is called menstruation. What it means is simply that you bleed for a certain amount of time. When a girl bleeds it means she can have children. So, now you’re old enough to have children, and your body is showing you. If you indulge in sexual activities with anyone and you become pregnant, the bleeding will stop. It only occurs once a month, but symptoms of when it will be coming are cramps, higher tempers and cravings. As I am not a woman, I don’t know if this is true, but you will also be very easily-umm…aroused during this period of time. It is perfectly normal, and it’s nothing to be embarrassed about.” Miroku and Kohaku had turned red, even Sesshoumaru looked uncomfortable (in Rin’s eyes) and Sango was trying not to laugh when Rin turned her saucer-large eyes to them. “What’s a sexual activity?” she asked. There was a shocked silence before everyone-except Sesshoumaru-burst into laughter.

Kamui sighed as his laughter receded and started again. “Well, when two people love each other very much, they need to express themselves. In order to do that…” By the end of it Rin’s eyes were humongous and her mouth had dropped open. Sango thanked Kamui, took Rin aside and whispered, “You’ll also need to wear these. They’re called pads, and when you go swimming you wear these, they’re called tampons. Kagome brought them from her world for me and she drops them off once a month for me. I’ll ask her to bring some for you too, okay? I’ll give you a bag full and that should do for this month and next. Don’t worry too much about it, but congratulations.” She handed Rin new clothing; a little big, but nonetheless comfortable and they were pink. Rin was hit by the sudden urge to cry, which she did, in Sango’s sympathetic arms. “I was so-so scared!” she wailed. The men had exited the hut, needing space to breathe and to hide their embarrassment. Sango patted her back, “I know Rin, I know. It’s scary, but you’re strong, and you’ll get used to it. Would you like to stay for dinner?” Rin smiled and said, “Thank you Sango, I’ll just ask Sesshoumaru-sama.”

Kohaku hadn’t precisely wiped Rin from his memory, but she existed in the past he didn’t want to remember. However, when she walked out of the hut, sickness forgotten and a smile so warm and loving that it heated the scenery around them, his emotions went haywire and suddenly he wanted nothing more than to know everything about the lovely young girl-and to make the loneliness behind her laughing eyes fade away into nothing. Sesshoumaru felt Kohaku’s heated gaze upon Rin and felt a surge of uneasiness. Not that Lord Sesshoumaru ever felt uneasy. Rin went running to Sesshoumaru and was grabbed by Kamui from behind. She squealed and turned to scold him for scaring her.
