Chapter 1
I don't own Inuyasha.
Rin sat by the fire sipping on another one of Jaken’s ‘wonderfully delicious health drinks of the future’. He and Sesshoumaru-sama had left her alone with Ah Un again. Her thoughts were drifting. At 17 now, she worried about the hair that was growing on embarrassing places on her and the cramps she had recently begun to receive. And she had these gross red things appearing on her face. Luckily she had solved that problem with herbs she gathered but her skin was always dry now, but that might have been because of all the sun she received, her skin had grown darker. She sighed. Sesshoumaru-sama could only do so much and it had been years since he actually touched her. He used to always help her get dressed and do her hair-since god forbid Jaken touch her hair-but he’d stopped and she still hadn’t figured out why. At least he had his arm back. Kagome-san, Inuyasha's mate had healed it and Sesshoumaru was now complete. Sipping more of the horrible concoction she shivered and gripped the bowl more firmly in her hands; at least it was warm. Ah Un came over and-like a loyal pet-it lay down beside her. Its tail wrapped around her and its heads encircled her. Its warmth was comforting and made her feel slightly better. Jaken strode back into the small clearing-alone. A swift pang of worry struck Rin’s chest. Jaken was furious. “Sent me to watch you. I remember the days when I followed Sesshoumaru-sama to the very ends of the earth. Now I’m just a babysitter to some stupid ningen.” Rin smiled at him and said softly, “I think your drinks are getting even better Jaken-sama. Thank you for letting me try them out.” Jaken blushed and mumbled something noncommittal. Rin smiled again and asked, “Can I go pick flowers, Jaken-sama?” Jaken nodded stiffly and ordered her to take Ah Un. “I’ll be making a late snack.” It was late after all, so dinner had already passed. Flattering Jaken almost always worked. He’d let her do what ever she wanted most times. She loved the old imp very much, gruff and mean as he was.
Glancing around furtively once she got to the moonlight meadow she picked up the long staff she had hid there. Patting Ah Un lovingly she whispered, “Remember, no telling!” She kissed its foreheads and stepped away. The staff felt good in her hands. It made her feel a lot more confident than she was. Concentrating she swung it in a slow, graceful arc and then leapt into her usual workout. Ever since she’d been kidnapped, Rin had felt the need to be independent, Sesshoumaru couldn’t always save her. She needed to be strong too. She had gotten quite good and could easily beat lower youkai, however, she’d never actually fought with anyone. Violence wasn’t her thing. She practiced but never tried it out. The thought made nausea rise in her stomach. She spent a straight thirty minutes in her usual routine before she remembered Jaken would be coming soon. Swiftly she plucked a handful of lovely, moonlit flowers and rested against Ah Un, faking sleep. Jaken did come for her. He scolded her thoroughly for falling asleep in a dangerous place, but she just smiled at him and kissed his wrinkled head. She could get away with kissing Ah Un and Jaken, but never Sesshoumaru-sama; he wouldn’t stand for it. She fell asleep easily, feeling his gaze graze over her.
The next day, she was rudely shaken awake by a very worried Jaken with an impassive Sesshoumaru looming behind him. Knowing his moods quite well she was surprised to find him looking anxious-although to anyone else he would have looked emotionless. She yawned and then blushed, “Sorry,” she mumbled. Rubbing her eyes tiredly, she asked Jaken, “What’s the matter?” Jaken looked hysterical, “Are you hurt anywhere?!” Rin raised an eyebrow, “Umm…my stomach hurts slightly, but I’m not hurt anywhere.” Sesshoumaru bit back an angry snarl, his patience wearing thin. He looked over coolly and asked, “We can both smell blood on you.” Rin’s eyes widened, “Blood?!” Jaken nodded vigorously. Rin bit her lip, “Honestly, I don’t have a single wound on my body.” Jaken stood up and rubbed his hands together nervously. “I’ll gather herbs to get rid of your stomach pangs.” He dragged Ah Un away with him to the meadow. Sesshoumaru stayed behind eyeing her with slight curiosity. She looked up at him and jerked back slightly when he dropped to his knees. Grabbing her arms he sniffed from her head and downwards, pausing just above her stomach. Rin had long ago gone into shock. Sesshoumaru-sama was touching her! She pressed her legs firmly together, as something began tingling in her lower regions. Sesshoumaru started. “Rin, you’re bleeding from between your legs.” She gasped and her blush burnt her face. Getting up she put her hands to her face and fled. Sesshoumaru didn’t go after her. He had no solution for her bleeding. If she died, he would just revive her. He wouldn’t let her die; he’d get her the best youkai healer there was. He left swiftly.
Rin was in a state if panic. She was bleeding?! Why?! Swiftly she made her way to the nearby river and stripped of her clothes. Blood ran down her thighs and she almost fainted. Blood always made her light-headed and dizzy. She slid into the river clutching at the gravel to give her a sense of reality. There was blood dripping down her thighs. She was dying. The river made her yelp and unconsciously she viewed her body through the blurred running water. She had a good enough figure. It wasn’t hour glass but it wasn’t a stick either. She sighed, why couldn’t she have died with a nice body? She had average sized breasts and barely any curves. From what she saw, other girls around her age had figures that could kill any man. Nobody would ever want her with this kind of body, not that it mattered since she was dying. She held onto the side of the river as the long grass cut into her stomach and arms. She let go and submerged herself. Standing with the water raining out of her hair and off her back she shrieked. It was colder than she had previously thought. Her long black hair draped across her breasts and she swallowed nervously. She didn’t want to touch the blood, but she wanted it off. Scrubbing fiercely she saw that the more she scrubbed the redder the water ran. Blood everywhere, screams and pleading, prayers to fend off evil. The stench of burning flesh in her nose and howls in the distance. Something was chasing her. Rin touched her face where tears ran along with the river water. Blood from her fingertips was smeared under her left eye and on her cheek. She fainted and fell into the river.
