Chapter 8
I do not own Inuyasha.
Strong warm arms held her, a soft gentle voice whispered her name and a soft blanket was wrapped around her. Sesshoumaru hadn't killed Ofuda. No, his fury wanted Ofuda to suffer, to scream and cry just as Rin had. He wanted him to be in such agonizing pain that he would beg for death, which Sesshoumaru would gladly give him; slowly and painfully. He'd nearly crushed his wind pipe and Ofuda had fallen unconscious. Rin though, Rin was a mess. He sighed and lowered her to the ground. She whimpered and pulled close. Bending over Ofuda with Rin still in his grasp, he quickly--so as not to drop Rin--inserted his clawed fingers into Ofuda's leg and pulled them out. The poison he'd injected would of course disable his legs if he woke up and he'd have to crawl away. As a safe mesure for Kohaku he had binded Ofuda's arms too, but he doubted Ofuda would wake in the time it would take him to bathe Rin. Leaving the cave and the scent of Ofuda's arousal and Kohaku's and Rin's blood Sesshoumaru made his way to the village well. People looked at him in fear and admiration. He was a beautifully deadly looking youkai after all, with an unconscious girl in his arms. The moment he shot them a look they immediately retreated. When the soldiers came he said, "If you disturb me I will kill you all," and they backed off. Gathering water from the well and taking a horse he attached two buckets to it and left the village. As he walked away he took a kimono hanging from a clothes line and vanished. No one said a word but stared in the general direction they saw him leave from. Who had the girl been?
Sesshoumaru set Rin down and tore some of the blanket, while he heated the water. He removed the strips of fur and leather that covered her and dipped the ripped cloth into the now warm water. With absolute care he proceeded to wipe away all the dirt and blood he found on her and plucking flowers from around them he rubbed them into her skin as he bandaged her hand and cooled her red skin. Finally he crushed the remainder of the flowers and poured them into the still heating water. When they finished boiling he let it cool and poured it into Rin's hair to rinse out Ofuda's disgusting scent. He admired his work and realized it would be extremely uncomfortable for her to wake up naked. He dressed her and gently re-wrapped her in the soft blanket. She would be hungry, he knew. He could leave and be back within moments, he would just have to be very quick. He didn't want to leave her, but she needed nourishment, especially fruit; she loved fruit. Sesshoumaru was off in a blur, thinking miserably that he had become a nursemaid.
Rin yawned and awoke, her hand throbbed, her body ached and she felt sore everywhere but she smelt delicious. "Sesshoumaru-sama?" she whispered, recognizing his fires and feeling his calming presence. When Sesshoumaru bothered to make fires they were always tinged gold and very attractive, he didn't usually bother because Jaken begged to do it to please him. Rin smiled and stretched, everything would be better now, because Sesshoumaru-sama was there. She felt him behind her and turned with a weary smile. He dropped the fruit he was holding into her arms and tended to the meat that was roasting over the fire. "Sesshoumaru-sama!" she exclaimed happily and tried to get up. He turned with a slightly dangerous look on his face that said, 'you move and you die'. She smiled and got up anyways. She sat next to him by the fire and said awkwardly, "Umm...th--thank you Sesshoumaru-sama." For some odd reason she felt extremely odd. Sesshoumaru turned to her and he asked, "How are you feeling?" She smiled brightly and replied, "Much better, who took care of me?" Sesshoumaru said nothing but looked at her. She continued, "I thought I was all dirty--and, and..." She blushed realizing it must have been him, and if so--HE'D SEEN HER NAKED!! Sesshoumaru stood up, "You need to get rest Rin, stay here. I'll be back." She nodded and crawled back into her blankets. Everything would be okay now.
Sesshoumaru was uncomfortable. The Lord Sesshoumaru embarrassed! And ashamed. He'd left her alone, so it was his fault she was so abused. She looked tired, and for some odd reason he wanted ot comfort her. Suddenly he realized the familiar musky scent was having no effect on him. (A/N: So he thinks....muahahaha!) He'd bathed her and everything, but it still wasn't having an effect on him. Why? Was it because she was hurt? He couldn't help his instincts to protect her. He inhaled deeply, he needed to get back. He needed to protect her, comfort her, hold her, and touch her.
Rin yawned sleepily and turned over. "Sesshoumaru-sama..." she whispered dreamily. "I knew you would come..." An ice cold hand latched onto her and Rin screamed. "Rin! Shush, it's okay, it's just me! Look, look!" A bloodied Kohaku let go of her hands and put them in front of him in a peaceful manner. Rin lurched forward and hugged him. "Kohaku-kun! You're alright! I was so worried!" She released him and wiped away the tears forming in her eyes. Sesshoumaru--as soon as her heard her scream--had flashed to their campsite only to recognize Kohaku's smell. He relaxed slightly and watched from the bushes. When Rin had jumped to hug him, Sesshoumaru felt a growl vibrate in his throat and didn't even try to stop it. He was about to stride forward when she released Kohaku and smiled in his direction. Did she sense him? No, there was no way, but...
Rin felt him, she looked up and smiled where she knew he was and called happily, "Sesshoumaru-sama!" He couldn't hide from her. She always seemed to know, and although it should have unnerved him, it made him feel elated instead. He walked forward and nodded curtly. Kohaku jumped slightly when he saw Sesshoumaru, still remembering his deadly grip around his throat--not for the first time. Sesshoumaru looked Rin directly in the eye and said, "I have to go speak to Ofuda, Rin." Rin paled but nodded bravely. "I want to go too, Sesshoumaru-sama."
The protectiveness kicked in and both Kohaku and Sesshoumaru immediately responded with a violent, "NO!" The hurt in Rin's eyes made Kohaku stammer, "T--that is, well, you're--you're really tired, Rin-san. You, you took a lot of damage, you--you need t--to rest." He blushed and looked away, "Please stay here?" Sesshoumaru regarded Rin with serious amber eyes. "Why do you want to go?" he asked. Rin took a deep breath and tried to explain. "It's hard to say, Sesshoumaru-sama. If I don't face him now, I will never be able to get over my fear of him. If I speak to him now, with you, I know nothing will ever hurt me again..." By this point the guilt gnawed at Sesshoumaru again, for the second time in his life and he didn't know what to make of it. "...I don't want to be afraid. I shouldn't have to be, right? Like it or not, we are all living creatures, and we shouldn't have the right to terrify each other. We are all equal. I guess, I guess I just want to prove that to myself. And, And there's something I've got to do." Kohaku looked up at the stony Sesshoumaru and expected him to repeat his earlier answer. Instead, Sesshoumaru turned away and said softly, "Fine."
