InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Hidden Past, Hidden Self ❯ Revenge ( Chapter 17 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

I don't own any of the InuYasha characters in this fanfic. The ones I own are Kane-Sakura, Setsuna, and Trowa. Mika is owned by my friend Stephanie, Michi and Ori to my friend Nicky, and Yuki (coming in a later chapter) belongs to Danielle.

Last time on The Hanyou's Little Sister:

"So, what's eating you?" Mika stretched out her arms in an attempt to get the knots out.

"This is the second night in a row that Kane has had a nightmare bad enough to wake her so suddenly. I have a feeling that she's seeing something very disturbing." He closed his eyes. "And I think I know what it is."

***

"Who's…trying to kill me?"

Regret covered their faces as she flipped on the light to see better. Michi rolled over, squinting her eyes in the bright light. "Do you guys know what time it is?" She said groggily. But when she saw the tears forming in Kane's eyes and the panic that covered her face, right away she knew it wasn't good.

"Tell me, who's trying to kill me now." Kane demanded.

"Kane, who said…?" But she wasn't going to tolerate it. Kane ran from room, down the hall, and out of the house towards the well shrine.

"Kane, come back!" Setsuna got up and dashed after the hanyou.

"What's the deal with Setsuna? Doesn't he know that Kane's engaged?" Michi asked Mika, who closed her eyes and lay down again.

"Yeah, but he really likes her; perhaps even loves her."

***

"Come on; let me finish what I have to say." He complained from behind her.

Kane kept her eyes on the ground. "Please, we need to keep going; this subject can be discussed at a later time." Kane had been so `interested' in the ground that she didn't notice two things. One was Setsuna watching the sway of her hips as she strolled; the other was another guy who she ran right into. "Oof!" Kane plowed him over, landing right on top of him. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry; I didn't see you standing there!" Kane allowed him to sit up.

"No harm done, my lady. The only damage may be that my tunic is a little dusty." The man said as he brushed himself off. Kane gazed into his illustrious red eyes highlighted by black hair on his head, pulled back into a long braid in the back. He wore an array of colors on his armor, but it wasn't really the body armor of a warrior.

"She's with cat-boy! He'll save her if she does something stupid." She crossed her arms and leaned against the hut's wall.

Michi put her hands on her hips. "Fine! I'll go by myself and find her!" With a great STOMP of her foot and an angry HUFF, she charged off in the direction Ori was standing in.

She came closer to the top of the hill leading outside of the village, scared of the consequences she might face while alone in Feudal Japan. Not even taking one look up from the ground, she almost ran Ori over. When she didn't knock him over, like Kane had, she said, "Excuse me." And tried to get around him. Instead, she found herself wrapped in this person's gentle embrace. Intrigued and very flustered, Michi stuttered, "Who are…What are…?"

"My love, do you not recognize me?" Michi's eyes widened in disbelief at the sound of Ori's voice.

"Oh my God, Ori, is it really you?!" She pulled away to look into his smiling face. "It is you!" She squealed and returned the hug.

***

"I suppose it wouldn't hurt to go now. Thanks Ori." She grabbed Michi by the collar and began to drag her past the Thunder Brother.

"Mika, can he come too?" Michi asked, despite her predicament.

`Persistent, ain't she?' "I don't care. The more the merrier." Mika snorted as she let go of the monk.

Ori took Michi's hand as he and Michi walked behind Mika. He kept complimenting her and stuff like that and one glance back at them made Mika say, "I think I'm gonna be sick."

Chapter 17: Revenge

The smell of evil was lurking in one area all too much. Kane put her nose in the air and took in a giant whiff of the offending smell. She didn't know if this Ren-Tao fellow was promulgating himself on purpose or not, but either way, they were going to meet up with him.

"I don't know if you can smell it, but a wicked scent lingers in this area too much for him not to be here." Kane commented to Setsuna.

"How could I miss it?" He covered his nose with his sleeve. "It reeks of this guy's odor."

"Then we're right on track." She grabbed the hilt of her sword in case they ran into the enemy. Their movements into the perimeter of the forest were purposely slow, steady, and planned. Making no sudden jolts or sprints, they made sure they had the upper hand if Ren-Tao wasn't watching. Stealth was the only surprise attack they knew would, or might, work on this demon.

Little did they know that even with all of their silent steps, Ren-Tao was already watching them with murder in his eyes. "Night will fall, only then will I attack and slaughter you Kane-Sakura."

The sun set and soon the two hanyou's couldn't see well enough to continue. Setsuna made a cozy little fire, but noticed that Kane was shivering, despite the warmth of the blaze. As soon as he was finished, he removed his outer haori and handed it to her. Having only his inner, short sleeved kimono and pants on, she couldn't help but blush at his muscular structure.

"Are you sure you don't need this?" Kane looked at him as he sat next to her. She snuggled into it and absorbed his body heat that had remained on the haori.

"I'm being respectful, just like that Ori demon said I should be." He gazed into the fire, giving Kane no eye contact.

Kane looked away, not wanting to make him feel uncomfortable. "Look, I'm sorry I punched you on the head and stepped on your nuts, but was all of that really necessary?" Even with his haori on, Kane felt the wind cut right through it and she shivered.

He looked at her as she innocently chattered her teeth and shook to keep warm. He felt sorry for her, giving him that vulnerable appearance as she rubbed her arms. `Maybe if I do something nice, she'll forgive my perverseness.' He scooted over and put one arm around her shoulders. When Kane didn't reject it or shrug it off, he gently picked her up by the waist and set her on his lap as he sat Indian style. His strong arms wrapped around her in an attempt to keep her warm.

Being as cold as she was, Kane didn't try to squirm out of his grasp. Instead, she enjoyed this new comfort and closed her eyes. "Thank you, Setsuna." She slowly drifted off into a light sleep, knowing he's stay up to keep watch.

`She's the one for me, but that Trowa guy is standing in my way.' He took his finger and traced her jaw line. `Her skin is soft as a rose petal; her face as gentle as the morning breeze,' he breathed in her scent. `And she smells sweetly of freshly bloomed cherry blossoms.' When Kane squirmed to get comfortable, he loosened his grip just enough for her to adjust. Once she stopped, his hold on her body returned. He sighed heavily, thinking of what the rest of her body must feel like. His arms gently rested a top her bosom, and then he moved his hands to that he caressed them without disturbing his sleeping beauty. His eyes soon became heavy with sleep. `Funny, I was wide awake before. Why am I tired now?' He yawned. `I'll rest for a couple minutes, then I'll go back on watch.' He closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

The scent of the air changed suddenly. Noticing it instantly, Kane's eyes shot open and she snapped her head up. After her eyes focused, she saw a demon sitting across from her on the other side of the fire.

"Kane-Sakura, you have indeed grown up quite nicely." His red eyes smile with his wicked smirk.

"Ren-Tao I presume? The demon that's out to kill me for destroying his army?" Kane tried to stand up, but to no avail. Setsuna's arms were wrapped too tightly for her to move out of them. `Why is his grip so tight on me? Can't he smell Ren-Tao sitting right in front of him?!' Kane struggled a little more, but his arms remained steadfast on her.

"Can't move? Good, then my control over him is working." He stood and walked over to Kane.

"Why do you want to kill me?! I was only an infant when that happened!" Kane argued. "I didn't know any better!"

It was when he was only a breath away from Kane that he spoke again. "Your scent is enticing," then he traced her jaw down her cheek and to her lips, which he let linger there a moment longer. "And your skin is very tempting. If you surrender now, perhaps I'll make you my lover instead of killing you."

Kane tried to bite off his finger, but he pulled back just before she did. "I'd rather rot in the ground than become your whore!"

"From a beautiful flower to a nasty viper at the blink of an eye. You are quite lively, aren't you?" He laughed to himself. "I'll give you one last chance to save yourself. Be my woman and you'll be spared."

"Go to hell!" Kane spat in his eye.

"I'll let you go first!" Angry, he let his sword protrude from his hand and swung it above his head.

Setsuna's eyes popped open just as Ren-Tao began to run her through. As a defense tactic, Setsuna lit his left arm on fire with his fire stare. The demon's concentration was diverted and the Neko jumped out of the way with Kane in his arms. "Kane, are you okay?" He asked the hanyou. She didn't respond and her face was serene. He saw the blood on his haori she wore and his hands were now covered in it as well. He gently set her body down. His bangs covering his eyes, he turned to Ren-Tao, who was nursing his arm. When he looked up, his eyes were flaming instead of green and tears were streaming down his face. "You bastard! She doesn't deserve to die; she didn't know any better as an infant!"

"It might have been a different story if she had said she would be my woman, but now it matters not! If you will stand against me, then you'll die as well!" He charged after Setsuna.

"I won't let you touch her! I'll die with you protecting her before she does!" His muscles in his arms relaxed, allowing his claws to slide out of their cozy pockets of flesh in his hands. "Die, you bastard!"

Ren-Tao leapt into the air, his sword extended out in front of him. When it seemed he was going to run the boy through, he burst into flames. His concentration faltered and he landed on the ground and kneeled, waiting for the flames to subside.

`Good; that bought me some time!' Setsuna lifted Kane's limp body into his arms and sprinted into the wooded area. `If I can get her to safety, I can try to defeat Ren-Tao later.' His heart pounded against Kane as he ran.

Ren-Tao recovered faster than the Neko had intended. As he ran, he was suddenly struck in the back by one of Ren-Tao's sword's beams. "AAHH!" He dropped Kane and rolled on the ground from the force of the assault. Kane landed right in front of him, and his face was planted near her chest.

Setsuna groaned as he rolled over onto his back. Wincing in pain, he stood, ready to battle. "Show yourself Ren-Tao, or I'll put you in the hottest situation you'll ever be in! I'm not afraid to light this forest on fire!"

Kane moaned as she started coming to. "S-Setsuna?" Her vision focused and she saw him and Ren-Tao both scathed from battle. She sat up, holding her abdomen and feeling it already starting to heal itself. `Can I fight? Will I be able to defeat Ren-Tao?' Kane asked herself.

Setsuna cried out in the heat of passion to try and swipe Ren-Tao with his long claws. He managed to leave a long cut on his cheek just before he pulled away. Before Setsuna could retreat or try to hit him again, Ren-Tao punched him in the face, sending him sailing over Kane and into a tree. He landed with a hard thud! at the base of the tree and remained there; he'd been knocked out.

Before she could react, Ren-Tao was holding her in the air by her neck. Kane struggled to breathe as he constricted her airway.

He smiled in satisfaction, "Die." He mouthed with a smile on his face. Bringing his sword back, he prepared to spear her again. She closed her eyes and waited for the pain and darkness of death.

`This is it! My life ends now!'

A shorter chapter, but a good one. The reason I made it shorter is because I want to give you a little teaser for the movie I'm making for this fanfic. As I've said before, it's coming in a later chapter and will be a SEPARATE STORY FROM THIS ONE called Freak Out.

He lay dormant, unmoving as time went by. As the shadows danced on his sparkling body, a gentle breeze made his hair dance. His face was permanently secured in a grimace, never meant to smile or frown again. And yet, within that lifeless body, was a soul that yearned to be set free. I need a maiden's blood. A maiden who's half-demon and the daughter of a powerful dog demon. Once I get her blood, only then will I be free.

Then he gasped. That aura; it's the one I've been looking for! It must be of the one whom I need to free me of this accursed spell! He couldn't make a face, but he laughed nonetheless. Nigiyaka will be set loose of this incantation once I have her blood.

***

A kid stepped out of the shield of darkness. His white hair and green eyes looked way too similar to Setsuna's to just be dismissed as a coincidence. "Father, what are you doing with this woman? Mother needs you!"

After a moment of dazed silence, Setsuna started to sputter. "Wha…what th…the hell d-do you mean? I'm not…"

The kid interrupted. "Don't you remember me father? It's me, Nazuki. I'm your son."

***

As Kane held the squabbling infant, the man burst through the hut's door flaps, sweat pouring down his face. She looked up at him and then did a double-take. "Setsuna? I thought…" Kane looked over at Setsuna, who also stared up at the strange man; only his eyes weren't curious, they were knowing.

The other man spoke first. "So, my younger brother, we meet again."

***

Mika bolted right up in her tree. Tremors caused her to lose her balance momentarily; even so, Nakura was there to support her.

Michi opened her eyes and quickly stood. "What's going on?" The quavering intensified and she fell onto Ori's splayed body.

"Michi, what are…?" Ori held her shoulders as he helped her up using his own body. Mika and Nakura were both on the ground now as Yuki and Myrako woke up. A branch landed right next to Michi and she screamed.

"Nakura, please control yourself!"

He eyed her angrily. "It's not me, monk. But I do sense a disturbance in the deeper part of the forest." Nakura glanced in the direction Kane and Setsuna had taken. "Something is awakening within an ancient tree."

***

Koya smirked. "Scent alone will not get you to her in time. If you truly love her and wish to see her alive, take this." He held out the knife for Setsuna. "It's pulling towards its master."

He stopped, surprised by the sudden turn of events. "What do you mean, pulling towards its master?"

"Master, creator, no difference in this case." He simply let go of the blade and it sailed into a nearby tree trunk, sticking itself in the bark. "It was made of this demon from the tree." Koya took it out and gave it to his brother. "Do you feel the tug towards the east? Hang onto it and you'll be led right to your woman."

Setsuna stared at his brother. "Why're you helping me? I thought you hated me."

"I'm merely helping that woman, not you." He looked towards his hut. "My wife needs my immediate attention."

"Then why help Kane-Sakura?"

That's all I'll give to you for now. I'm not getting too close to finishing it, but hopefully I'll be able to get it out on the internet after a certain chapter. If you liked this little tidbit of the movie, e-mail me your opinion or leave me a review. Wish me luck!
