Chapter #3
Not Enough Time

Disclaimer: I don't own InuYasha … I know I can't believe it either but apparently it's true.

*Claps Hands* it's another chapter people! Ok InuYasha is a little bit more on the mellow side with his attitude in this fic. I hope you can forgive me but of course he is the teacher in this one and had anyone noticed how most of the time teachers seem so calm? Personally it freaks me out.

Be reminded that this is an Inu/Kags fic and they will eventually get together, main word being eventually. It will take a few chapters…

InuYasha had one period of free time before he taught his final class of the day so he did a little bit of paper marking before he decided to go grab a coffee; with his new job he seemed to be growing a dependence on caffeine. Either way though the job had been all he had hoped for and was glad for it since not all hanyou were as fortunate with job opportunities as he was.

With all of his extra time before next period he decided to see how Sango was doing with her gym class, or was there another reason? Suddenly the thought of the gym class reminded him that Kagome Higurashi was that class, and since he bumped into her earlier that morning he couldn't get her out of his head. It could have been the fact that the stain hadn't come out of his shirt and he had to borrow one from another teacher, but the truth was her aura seemed to draw him to her and he had no idea why.

Since the rain storm last night the field was soaked so Sango had the girls playing basketball in the gym that day and boy could the girls of Shinkon High play! They did not have the height advantage a boy would have but they were quick and spry which made them difficult to catch on the court when they were on a streak with the ball. One girl in particular seemed to be good at the sport and her name was Kikyo. InuYasha taught her English class as well and from his second day as teacher he could already tell the girl was not the brightest girl in the world … unlike Miss Kagome Higurashi who despite her timid nature was a brilliant rather open minded girl.

He watched the girls from the balcony where the bleachers were, sitting on them casually sipping his coffee when he spotted Kagome and his ears seemed to perk up at attention.

Kagome of course was far from an athlete and not fast like the other girls but she seemed slower than usual, almost like she was trying to play with weights strapped to her arms. She looked to be in better shape than what he saw her earlier that day but he knew makeup could do wonders to any face and hide almost anything.

“Come on Kagome lets see a little bit of effort,” Sango urged the girl.

The strain on Kagome's face was only slight but InuYasha wasn't an idiot, he could smell if someone was sick and Kagome was definitely not in the best of health.

She continued to push herself, running back and forth across the gym floor at least a dozen times following the ball where ever it went. Until Kikyo decided Kagome was in her way and accidentally crashed into her. Kagome was easily knocked to the ground and skidded across the floor, everyone expected her to just get up and keep going like she always did but this time Kagome didn't get up. It took a few minutes before anyone reacted to Kagome's fall.

Sango blew her whistle making everyone stop what they were doing while she ran out to Kagome. InuYasha set his coffee down on the bleachers and jumped over the railing easily landing on his feet below. He ran over to Sango to see if there was anything he could do to help.

“What is wrong,” InuYasha asked looking down at the unconscious girl.

“She's burning up,” Sango looked deeply worried, “We need to get her to the nurse.”

InuYasha nodded picking up the girl, Sango had been right about her fever, it was so bad InuYasha felt it when his hand was still inches away from her skin. The girl was very sick, and she had seemed perfectly fine the day before.

“Stupid little girl,” a seven year old Kikyo hissed at Kagome who was close to tears, “Why do you think we would actually let you hang out with us? No one wants a stupid little baby like you hanging around! You only get in the way!”

The expression on Kagome's face screwed slightly as she glared at Kikyo, her upper lip pulled back in a snarl, she wasn't going to take it anymore. She lunged at Kikyo with more strength than anyone would have thought possible in such a small child and knocked Kikyo to the ground.

Kikyo screamed trying to cover her face with her arms but nothing could seem to stop the enraged Kagome when she snapped. Kagome had punches that were much more powerful than they should have been for a human her size and did she ever feel angry. After a few punches Kikyo's lip had swollen to the size of an over ripe grape and dark purple and blue spots began to form around her eyes, the same thing happened to anyone to was brave enough to get near her to pry the two apart. One of which was Kagome's twin brother Souta.

Kagome failed her harms accidentally slugging her own brother right in the eye, for long moments Kagome is frozen as her brother falls back clutching his eye.

This gave Kikyo the chance to push Kagome off of her and run to the safety of her friends crying in pain.

“Souta,” Kagome murmured.

“Miss Higurashi I am disappointed in you,” one of the teachers frowned grabbing Kagome by the wrist, along with her brother ushering her into the school, “We don't use our fists Kagome.”

Kagome hated her dreams which were becoming a bigger and bigger problem for her since the memories she continued to see were the last things she wanted to remember. She would have rather have forgotten them all but something in her refused to let go of the past.

Her eyes fluttered open and she found she was staring at a white tile ceiling and she was laying on something soft. She blinked until everything around her came into focus, somehow she had gotten to the nurses office somehow. Kagome was laying in one of the white beds with the blankets pulled up snugly around her and a cold wash cloth on her forehead. It made her think of how much her head hurt right then and how her stomach seemed to be wrenched in a large knot in the pit of her gut.

I must have fainted in gym class, Kagome realized just laying on her cot for a long while before she heard the curtains being pulled aside.

“So your awake,” a familiar voice said in a soft tone just before she saw a pair of warm golden eyes looking down at her framed by dazzling silver locks, “I was beginning to worry about you.”

“What time is it,” Kagome mumbled rubbing her forehead.

“It's just three o'clock now; the bell only rang two minutes ago so you've been out for a little over an hour,” Mr. Taisho announced glancing at his watch.

Kagome's eyes widened slightly in shock and she sat up quickly only to have a whole world of colours explode in her face. Her head was spinning and pounding like a hammer at the same time and her stomach gave a great lurch threatening to bring up what she had eaten for lunch.

Mr. Taisho frowned making Kagome lay back down, “Miss Higurashi why did you come to school this morning if you were this sick? I checked your records, you haven't missed a day of school this year, I think the school would forgive you if you took one sick day. I think all you're running around in gym only made it worse for you.”

Doing everything in her power to avoid eye contact with her teacher Kagome refused to say a word to him.

“You know it takes a lot to get this sick Miss Higurashi,” Mr. Taisho sighed in defeat, “Now do you want me to call a taxi to drive you home?”

Kagome simply shook her head.

“Do you ever say anything,” the silver haired teacher muttered under his breath, “Well if you aren't going to say anything to me then you don't have to. Just get your stuff from your locker and I'll drive you home.”

“No, you don't have to do that,” Kagome said quickly in her meek whispery voice, “I always walk.”

Mr. Taisho shook his head insistently, “I am a teacher Miss Higurashi I am not just going to let you walk out in this type of weather with a fever. You have to realize that right now you really don't have a choice so come on let's get your stuff.”

For a minute Kagome just looked at her teacher saying `you can't be serious' with her eyes, despite what he said it was not his responsibility to get her home when she was sick. Though she couldn't help but blush, she hoped he would think it was just from her fever, but she just kept thinking about how cute he was and how he didn't look like a teacher to her.

“Come on, I bet after a goo night's sleep you'll feel a lot better and if I catch you here tomorrow and you're still sick I will send you right back home,” Mr. Taisho stated flatly.

Easy enough for him to say, Kagome moaned inwardly feeling her stomach upset itself again as she walked down the hall with her teacher beside her. She had always found it was awkward around teachers, you never really knew what you could say, though it was not like Kagome spoke much to begin with since she found her thoughts spoken out loud usually got her into trouble. There was still something about her new young teacher that made her stomach feel like butterflies were trying to fight their way free, but then again she was sick and that could have just been the nausea kicking in.

After Kagome got her things Mr. Taisho ushered her out to the parking lot where his car was and Kagome was quite surprised. She had seen the car before as being the nicest car in the school and seemed far beyond a teacher's salary. It was a nice looking Porch that was a deep red colour and comfy looking black leather seats, need I say it again IT WAS A NICE FREAKING CAR.

Mr. Taisho smirked seeing Kagome's surprised expression, “My father was a president of a wealthy company before he died, after he passed on he gave it to both my brother Sesshomaru and I. We are sort of the co-presidents of it now though it was a lot more powerful when my dad ran it, Sesshy and I sort of have our own things going on now. In fact Sesshomaru Taisho is the head of your school board in this county, and of course since he is a better business man he does most of the stuff for our father's business.”

Kagome still just stood there for a long time staring at the car before her teacher opened it for her like a butler and motioned for her to get in.

Still not having any choice in the matter Kagome got in the passenger's side and buckled up while her teacher closed the door and got in the driver's side to start the car. The car almost purred like a kitten as the engine started up and along with the soft seats Kagome felt like she was sitting on one of those really comfortable massaging recliner chairs.

“So are you going to tell me where you live or am I just going to drive around town like a moron,” Mr. Taisho laughed as he shifted into reverse and pulled out of his parking lot.

“116 Fergus St. W,” Kagome murmured.

He nodded slightly, “I know the street.”

Kagome swallowed hard, “Mr. Taisho-”

“InuYasha,” he interrupted.

“What?”

“It's after school hours so you can call me by my first name, I never did like the Mr. Taisho crap anyway. My name is InuYasha.”

How appropriate, Kagome thought, “InuYasha you really didn't have to do this, I didn't live that far from the school to begin with.”

“So the silent speaks,” InuYasha gave a grin that showed of his pearl white fangs, “Like I said before its no big deal and there is no way I'm just going to let you walk home in this rainy weather when you are sick, you shouldn't have even been up and about a school. You should learn to take better care of yourself; you're no use to anyone sick.”

By car Kagome's house was about ten minutes away and they were already there before she even knew it. She was so busy glancing over at her hansom teacher who had his window down making his ivory hair flow back, and it made it hard not to stare.

Sighing inwardly Kagome got out of the car, “Thank you Mr. - I mean InuYasha, I really do appreciate it. If there is anything I can do to repay you…”

“I told you before that it wasn't a big deal it wasn't really out of my way, but since you insist there is one thing you can do for me. You could,” InuYasha paused for a minute with a grin on his face, “you could smile for once.”

Kagome blushed deeply, what kind of thing is that to ask for? I thought he would ask for a real favor.

“Well,” he asked.

Kagome just stared at her feet not saying a thing feeling her cheeks grow hotter and hotter.

InuYasha gave a small laugh, “Maybe you're right I will wait until you are feeling better but I charge interest too so you'll owe me more than a smile by the end of the week got that?”

“Yes,” Kagome turned two shades redder.

“Get better Kagome,” was the last thing he said before he rolled up the window and pulled out of the driveway.

My stomach feels so weird and I don't think it's because I'm sick, Kagome thought sighing inwardly, Mr. Taisho is so different from other teachers.

Sighing and rubbing her temple she went into the house, she wouldn't get locked out that day; the ride had gotten her home earlier than usual. Plus the fact that her dad's car wasn't in the driveway was a pretty good indication her father had gone out with some girl yet again to treat her to some strong drinks at a bar he owned. It was all pretty typical and it also meant Kagome would get some time to possibly take a nap.

The door was unlocked, thank god, and the house was dark and dusty as usual with empty beer cans littering the floor which Kagome picked up as she walked. Her father often got angry when the house got to dirty so it became a habit for Kagome to absent mindedly cleaned as she wondered about the house. It was not much work for just her to do, her father never helped clean, other than the few tables, chairs, a TV and an old sofa. It was a fairly standard house with three bedrooms and one bathroom, the third room was used mostly to store extra stuff in which was her mom and brother's old stuff. No one looked at it much, especially not Kagome.

She set down all the empty beer cans on the counter, still feeling like she was going to throw up, she cleaned a few dishes and spotted the note her dad left for her on the windowsill in front of the sink.

Kagome,
Gone out for a few days with a few friends so don't wait up. You'll need to do the shopping and check in at the bar while I am gone, I better find everything in place when I come back!
Dad

It was wrong but she couldn't help a small sigh of relief, thank god I need a few days of rest.

She did just that, after doing a little cleaning she put on her pajamas she fell onto her bed and snuggled herself into her warm pink blankets. Her whole room looked like it belonged to a ten year old girl because it had not been redecorated since she was a little girl. The light yellow paint had held up well over the years as did the teddy bear border and pillow cases that matched it. She had an old oak chest of drawers with a mirror she let get dusty over the years because she had lost interest in looking in it so long ago. Other than that it was just her bed and a closet for the rest of her cloths.

It didn't take long for her mind to go fuzzy with fatigue and subconsciously she found herself dreaming of a curtain silver haired hanyou man she was rather fond of. That's the thing about dreams, there are no limits, and the fact that he was her teacher didn't apply, only the fact that he was the only one that was ever nice to her in such a long time…

*cries* Yes this is a sad fic, I should have mentioned it earlier but I'm glad you all like my fic it makes me feel so happy! I'm not a tragedy writer so you know that everything will eventually work its way out one way or another, but until then Kagome will continue to have a tough time.

Thanks for all the reviews! Please keep it up
