“Come on Kagome you need to get a costume too,” Rin cried dragging Kagome into the costume store isles, “Lets find you something really pretty!”

Kagome wasn't all that into the idea of dressing up but either way she had been dragged to the department store, and Rin of course had money left over that she had gotten from InuYasha after she brought a classic princess costume. Now Rin had her heart set on getting Kagome a costume as well for Halloween night and Kagome couldn't get a word in edgewise being dragged all over the mall.

“Hey look Kagome they have a lot of pretty costumes in here,” Rin squealed in excitement dragging Kagome into a store (Rin is half her height so Kagome was running bent over and looking like a fool) with manikins dressed in skimpy looking outfits in the window. She barely had enough time to realize that it was a lingerie store before Rin had dragged her in and yelled to the girl at the counter, “My friend needs a costume for Halloween! Help me pick out something really nice!”

The girl at the counter looked up at them and smiled, she was a young woman, probably only just twenty-one, with short shag style black hair, “Welcome to Gabriella's you two, what is this about a costume?”

“Kagome needs a pretty costume for tonight, something to make her look pretty for my uncle InuYasha,” Rin announced again rather loudly.

“No I don't Rin,” Kagome tried to insist before she was cut off by the sale's girl.

The girl used a firm hand and pulled back on Kagome's shoulder's forcing her to stand up properly with better posture, “You have a good figure I have to admit but we will know exactly what we have to work with if you take off that huge sweater. What are you looking for exactly? Is there anything this InuYasha likes to see you in?”

“I don't need anything-”

The poor raven haired girl was dragged once again by Rin who was now joined by the sale's girl through the store looking for something for Kagome to wear. Once and a while they would stop in front of a rack and the sale's girl would pull out a skimpy little outfit that Kagome would always refuse. They had gone through so many different outfits, very few of them Kagome actually tried on only to have it put back and the search for the perfect costume continue.

“This is perfect for girls with glasses it will make you look so cute, and it's not as reveling as the other outfits. You are so pretty Miss Kagome I don't see why you are so modest about wearing something pretty,” the girl laughed handing Kagome another outfit and almost forcibly shoving her into the nearest change room.

A few minutes later Kagome came out to show Rin and the sale's girl what she looked like in the outfit that would be the one she would eventually buy. It was a maid's outfit that looked just right on Kagome. The skirt of the dress was an inch short of touching her knees; it was black with lots of white lace to decorate it. It covered everything Kagome wanted covered but at the same time left nothing to the imagination, especially around the chest area, and the fishnet stockings showed off her long slender legs. Along with the glasses it made her look so innocent and cute that men walking by the window of the store would stop to take a second look.

Kagome's cheeks turned crimson.

“That one is perfect,” Rin clapped her hands in approval, “Come on Kagome now that's we've got you a costume!
“Rin I really don't know about this,” Kagome murmured.

“Nonsense,” the sale's girl grinned, “I have never seen someone more suited for that costume! I tried one on like it but I couldn't pull it off.”

You just want to make a sale, Kagome growled inwardly but Rin was the one that had the extra money (which should never have happened in the first place but InuYasha wanted to get rid of her for a while) and there was no way she was going to let Kagome out the door without getting something. The maids outfit was better than the alternative outfits Kagome had already tried on.

Since Rin was already dressed in her flowing blue princess crown and gown Kagome was pretty much required to wear her costume out. She felt like everyone was staring at her, the male population anyway, but since it was Halloween it meant that she was not the only one wearing a costume. Though she was the only teenage girl wearing a maid's outfit purchased at a lingerie store.

“We are going to have so much fun Kagome,” Rin piped.

“TRICK-OR-TREAT,” chimed Rin as the patio door of their first house of the evening opened. An elderly lady with a kind smile looked down at little Rin, holding a giant bowl filled to the rim with assorted chocolates and other sweets. She picked out a good handful of candy and dumped it into the bag Rin was holding up so eagerly.

“What do we say Rin,” Kagome reminded.

Rin blinked for a moment before she remembered, “Thank you!”

“Your welcome,” the woman laughed, “you are a cute little girl now aren't you? The loveliest princess I've ever seen!”

Smiling with a look of pure pride Rin lead the way to the next house on the street which was unexpectedly not the best experience.

A middle aged woman came to the door with treat bags filled with candy ready for the young children but unlike the last house the woman had more of a look of shock on her face than a look of cheer. Kagome should have expected it, after all youkai and hanyou were often hated in society for what they were, and even though Rin looked almost human enough t pass for one there was no mistaking the red eyes, the striped cheeks and the noticeably pointed ears. The woman kept looking back and forth between Rin and Kagome who was of course human.

The woman holding the treat bag scowled, “Well let me guess a teenage mother that had the child of a demon? Have you no shame young lady? Despite what you may think the danger thing in guys doesn't work out in the future afterwards.”

“Excuse me,” Kagome muttered slightly in anger, she had never taken that type of tone with anyone before but she couldn't help it.

There was not much more said and the woman closed the door right in their faces denying Rin her candy completely.

“I'm sorry Rin that was not fair of her,” Kagome murmured as she lead the girl away from the house and continued down the street, “No one should judge you just because you look different, people just don't understand.”

Rin looked up at Kagome and gave a small smile, “It's alright Kagome I get that sometimes but it only hurts if you let it. I don't care if one person doesn't like me. My daddy told me on my very first day of school that if you spend all your time worrying about people that don't like you then you will never get the chance to meet the people who like you for who you are.”

Kagome had never though about the grief the young demon would have gone through at such a young age just for being what she was. She could remember when she was young how her dad would always whisk her away when she began talking to demon or hanyou children. Kagome never understood why, she always admired how much more powerful they were and sometimes in her childhood fantasies imagined she was a demon so she would not have people dare to tease her about her size.

“Kagome can I ask you something?”

“Sure Rin what is it?”

“How come you always seem to sad,” Rin asked, “I have never seen you laugh, I never see you smile, and you are always so quiet.”

The question surprised Kagome a little, no one had ever actually asked; the closest thing was InuYasha's saying she owed him a smile. Rin was so young but she seemed to be smarter than a lot of young children her age, most children in Kindergarten never even thought about things like that unless it was painfully obvious.

“You just concentrate on getting lots of candy tonight Rin, that way your uncle InuYasha will have to peal you off the ceiling with a specula,” Kagome murmured trying to lighten the mood a bit, “He'll have fun with that.”

The rest of the night went off without anymore people like that other woman snapping at them and turning them down. The most some people did was give Rin dirty looks which she completely remained oblivious to, only Kagome really noticed it and it just made her angry someone would act that way toward an innocent child.

After they had been out for a little over an hour Kagome was carrying her first bag which was full to bursting and Rin was carrying a lighter one that wouldn't slow her down on her quest for the ultimate haul.

They were going down yet another street when a car pulled up beside them and Kagura stuck her head out the window, “Rin come on hun I think that will be enough candy to tide you over for quite some time. Its getting late sweetie you should come home and sleep now.”

“Aw mom,” Rin whined running up to the car, closely followed by Kagome.

“Miss Kagome,” Kagura said in surprise, “What are you doing here?”

“InuYasha was busy with the dance so I took Rin out for Halloween,” Kagome replied meekly in a whispery voice as usual.

Kagura rubbed her forehead, “Damn it I told Sesshomaru that InuYasha was busy! I'm so sorry Kagome that you ended up having to do the babysitting for me that really wasn't fair, but my husband I swear he never listens to a word I say. I'll pay you for your troubles I promise.”

Kagome shook her head, “There is no need for that Miss Taisho I volunteered and Rin was no trouble at all really.”

“Well then get in I'll give you a ride home,” Kagura insisted, “or I think that dance at the high school is still going on if you were planning on going to that.”

“No I wasn't planning on it…”

“Well I need to make a quick stop there and apologies to InuYasha for putting you two through this trouble, believe me I know Rin can be quiet the handful.”

Yet again Kagome didn't have much choice in the matter; she seemed to be having kindness forcibly thrust upon her over the last little while…along with other things. She wasn't sure whether to be relieved or scared.

The whole gym had been taken up for the event and it was simply packed with high school students dressed in costumes. Halloween of course was the best time of year for girls to come to dances dressed like total skanks and no one would say a word about it, and all dances were one group orgy in the center of the large crowd of students where the teachers couldn't see them in the frenzy of crazy black lights.

Kagome was with Kagura so she didn't need a ticket to get in and no one asked questions when she walked by. They walked around the outside of the dancing group where the teachers were patrolling looking for InuYasha.

She expected him to be easy to spot with his silver hair in the black lights but surprisingly Kagura didn't walk up to a silver haired man and tapped him on the back. The man had regular looking black hair with no cute fuzzy little dog ears, whoever it was, was human there was no doubt about that.

“Yash,” Kagura yelled over the booming base of the music.

The man turned around and Kagome was slightly shocked, it was InuYasha, a human InuYasha. His face was the same though his eyes had turned to a dark brown, almost back, colour along with his hair. His ears were no longer doglike and sitting on top of his head but completely normal and human like. He was dressed in a pirate costume, everything from the rag like cloths that showed a lot of his chest to the bandana and eye patch.

“I'm sorry about today InuYasha I told Sesshy that you were busy,” Kagura sighed, “I hope she wasn't any trouble to you.”

InuYasha shook his head but he was hardly paying attention to Kagura, he was looking solely at Kagome who was blushing furiously under his gaze. He had never seen a girl look so perfect in a maid's outfit, Kagome just looked so innocent and cute he couldn't help but stare at her. In the costume Kagome was the definition of adorable in his eyes and even as a human he couldn't quite think clearly were her there in those types of cloths.

“I'll be taking Rin home now so she can get some sleep,” Kagura announced then turned to Kagome, “Since you're here already why don't you stay and have some fun, its Halloween and you should really do something for yourself. I'm sure after spending so much time babysitting a little girl you want to have some fun.”

Kagome blushed and shook her head letting her eyes wonder to the floor like she always did. She couldn't possibly stay at the dance, she didn't have any friends to dance with, and she had never really been a party person.

She was just going to leave when she noticed that Kagura had already disappeared, she was alone with InuYasha.

“I can give you a ride but it will have to wait until after the dance ends,” he offered, “I don't want you out walking this late by yourself, little children aren't the only people running around out there.”

“Thanks Mr. Taisho,” Kagome blushed.

“Come one the dance is almost over anyway so how about a dance,” InuYasha said taking a very bold chance for someone in his position. No one would recognize him in his human form right? And even though he was human he felt attracted to the girl, he didn't have a real reason, he just felt it. It was not only the fact that he liked her that compelled him to ask her to dance, there was a question he had to asked Kagome that bothered him.

The raven haired maid blushed turning redder than she had ever been in her life, was her cute English teacher actually asking her to dance?

Yes a bold move for Inu but don't think he's only after getting closer to Kags, the answer to his real reason is revealed in the next chapter! Hehe I know I'm a bitch sometimes and believe me I love to leave cliff hangers on important parts like right at the climax of my stories.
