~Last Time~

 

“About what Kagome?” the taiyoukai asked quietly.

 

“About burying my claws into you, but I don't have claws and why would I? I don't hurt people I care about why would I…” she trailed off as her trembling began anew and Inuyasha sat down behind his pack sister and wrapped his arms around her and leaned into her back as he felt one of his brother's hands reach up to scratch his ears.

 

“You were reacting as mother would Kagome, well at least a youkai mother. For a split second you saw him as a threat to your pup so you reacted in defense of Shippou.”

 

“But I'm not a youkai.”

 

“Looks like we'll be having this talk sooner than I had planned,” Sesshoumaru sighed as the sun rose and shined brightly in through the kitchen window.

 

“Talk about what?” Kagome asked.

 

 

~This Time~

 

 

 

I Am A Mother

 

 

Kagome sat in Sesshoumaru's lap, held in his arms, her face a mask of thoughtful confusion as her mate thought of how best to go about the explanations. Deciding to start of with the simplest first, he merely said, “You will share my life span, among other things.”

 

Just as Kagome was about to ask `like what?' Maika came bursting through the kitchen door upset and out of breath.

 

“There's four youkai in the village, all have jewel shards according to Miroku! I must agree with him, they're too strong and too fast for what they are. One of them has Rin!”

 

Kagome was the first to react. Without a second thought to grabbing any weapons or a change of clothing for that matter she jumped off of her mate and raced for the well, her eyes glowing red the whole time as Shippou clung to her shoulder as best he could. She leapt into the well Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha and Maika following fast.

 

Kagome didn't give a thought to climbing the vines out and instead gave one strong leap, landing in the grasses of the feudal era to a sight that both terrified and enraged her. Rin was be dangled nearly fifty feet in the air by a bear youkai that had two jewel shards in the paw that it was holding her with. The hanyou child was screaming fear and calling out for her - for her mother.

 

Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru and Maika came bounding out of the well just in time to see Kagome leap at the youkai holding Rin, and turn into a black inuyoukai while doing so. Her hackles stood on end as she growled and barked fiercely. She tore the youkai apart with her claws and fangs and snatched Rin up in her jaws, tossing the child to her father as she proceeded to tear the other youkai apart. The entire battle between the inu Kagome and the other youkai lasted mere minutes before the youkai were nothing more than piles of blood and guts and torn limbs on the ground.

 

The red eyes of the black inu turned blue and horrified as Kagome realized what she had done, what she could have done to her own kin. The big inu whimpered and shook her head as she began moving away, Shippou long since being held by Miroku who had passed him on to Kaede who was tending to his broken leg inside her hut, adding crushed herbs to his bandages and giving him tea for the pain and healing.

 

“Kagome,” Sesshoumaru began hesitantly as he moved towards her. When an inu youkai turned into their true inu form they were as mindful as they always were, but in battle they were only mindful after the fact.

 

Kagome whimpered again and shook her big head as she began backing up, panting harshly as watched her mate coming closer, their child in his arms. Her tail hung low as she looked from the massacre she had made to her mate and child and then to Kaede who held Shippou in her arms. She backed away even more, her tail firmly between her legs, what had she done? She could have hurt Shippou or Rin. She could have…

 

Kagome bounded into the woods and Sesshoumaru tossed Rin to his brother as he followed his distraught mate. After nearly a half hour of following her scent he found her near the mouth of a cave. She was terrified, he could tell by her scent, and it wasn't of anyone but herself that she was scared of. He approached slowly and talked in a low soothing tone hoping to calm her.

 

She heard his voice and her head snapped up as she moved back toward the mouth of the cave, back into it. Her panic was escalating quickly and he was at loss of how to comfort her, what the hell was going on in her mind? Sesshoumaru closed his eyes and calmly turned into his inu form and walked to her side slowly.

 

She began to back away the closer he got and he lowered his head to show that he meant her now harm. Her breathing was still harsh, but she had stopped moving when he lowered his head. He came closer and she sniffed at the large silver-white inu and sat on her haunches before lying down, her tail covering her face. Sesshoumaru curled up behind her and curling up, wrapping his form around hers and laying his large head on top hers.

 

:Kagome: he mind spoke to her, using the connection through their mating bond. She tried to pull away and he rose up just enough to stand with his front legs on either side of her shoulders and laid back down, his body half on top of hers. :No, shh, it's alright. I'm not going to hurt you.:

 

:I might hurt you. Get away.:

 

:I will not.:

 

:You don't understand:

 

She began struggling underneath him and he quickly subdued her with his jaw loose around her throat. Once she stopped moving he began licking her muzzle and face with his large pink tongue. :It is alright, you are safe my mate. Come let us turn back.:

 

Sesshoumaru stood away and turned into his humanoid form and looked at Kagome who was still lying on the ground in her inuyoukai form. :Why haven't you turned back?:

 

:I don't know how. I don't know how I got like this.:

 

He smiled and spoke, “Think of how you look. Concentrate on that.”

 

She did as instructed and changed back, but instead of being an inuyoukai she was human, with no scent of youkai on her. He looked at her in astonishment and she looked at him confused.

 

“What?” she asked.

 

“You.”

 

“What about me?”

 

“You are not a youkai. You are though you show no signs of it.”

 

She held up her hand, “Umm, not getting the problem here.”

 

“You changed into a inuyoukai when Rin was in danger, you fought and protected her and acted upon those inu instincts.”

 

“Mmhmm.”

 

“But you are not a youkai now. Now you are once again human.”

 

“Does that upset you?” she asked softly, not certain as to his thoughts.

 

“No, it does not upset me,” he said taking her into his arms and lifting them upon his energy cloud as he flew them back to the village. “It is simply that I have not seen anything like this before. That is all.”

 

“Oh…Sesshou?”

 

“Yes.”

 

“I'm hungry.”

 

Sesshoumaru's chest began quaking seconds before he broke out into full fledged laughter. He held her close and carried them both to Kaede's hut where Miroku handed her the seven jewel shards collected and she purified them and added them to the vile around her neck. Rin, carrying Shippou, settled in Kagome's lap once she and her mate were seated and they all feasted on the rabbit stew Kaede made for breakfast. The shard hunt must begin again, was a thought shared by all.

 

 

 

AN: ok I think that's all for now but you never know I may add to this chapter or revamp it a bit. I'm not sure I'm completely happy with it as it is, but I'm posting it so we'll see.
