Chapter 6
“Hi, did you wait long?” Sesshoumaru said as he came walking up to the teen. His face neither showing the drowsiness or weariness from being the night before.
InuYasha returned the smile with one of his own. “No, I was a little late myself so don't mind it.” He gave the other a fast look up and down, was there anything that didn't look good on him?
“Any wish what we do?” asked the man as he took a look at the clock, 11:42.
“Not really.” he felt ridiculous, why hadn't he thought about it earlier. Awkward. He looked around, trying to decide fast on something but what was closest was some cloth stores and he wasn't really into that. Not to mention how his family had its own tailor that took care of all their needs.
Sesshoumaru steeled his jaw as a yawn tried to press its way out. He opened his lips slightly when the pressure fell and how he seriously needed something to keep awake.
“How about some breakfast or a brunch?” he suggested. “I didn't eat before coming here.”
With the suggestion and chance to please the other he shinned up. “Sure. There's a place not far from here. They are awesome with their waffles.”
He couldn't suppress the chuckle, “Sounds good.” he placed his hand on InuYasha's back to get the youngster to lead him the way although he knew which place it was.
The next two hours passed fast as they remained in the café. Sesshoumaru sipping his coffee and filled his stomach and it helped him to wake up. InuYasha sitting with his hot chocolate, which had made him slightly depressed when he ordered it, but had warmed him and proved to be a good distraction from staring at Sesshoumaru's handsome face.
They talked about everything that came to mind and found the other to be more open minded than previously assumed. Where one couldn't be sure of where one standards stood it made a good discussion when compared their different opinions. When they finally realized the time they left the café and while walking out the door InuYasha laughed good heartedly.
Next they walked through some random stores that drew interest. InuYasha found the air between them to be far better than he ever could had hoped for. He never got tired to learn something new about the adult and at the same time he shared something about himself, just not related to his family.
It was the best time of his life, or at least close to. He couldn't be happier when the hours passed and the fun never ceased. When the clock finally showed 16:08 they both came to a stop in front of a flower shop and Sesshoumaru was the one to walk inside. He asked asked the florist, who blushed, for a bouquet. He pointed at a special kind behind the glass display and waited until his order were carried out.
Soon he came back out with a bunch of tulips under his arm. “Sorry for the wait.”
The teen gave him a smile while shifting his two bags from one hand to the other. Feeling his fingers sore from the weight they had carried he flexed them.
“Don't you have to contact your family? They might be worried.” Sesshoumaru raised his other hand that held a plastic bag with a book.
InuYasha looked at the clock and thought about it, he really did have to call his family otherwise they would worry but he didn't want the day to end. The conflict might had showed on his face but Sesshoumaru didn't comment on it.
“I have to get these in water.” he mentioned toward the flowers. “You can borrow my phone there to call home.”
“Really? It's ok with you?” he were going home to Sesshoumaru?
It wasn't even any hesitation when Sesshoumaru walked in the direction where his apartment were. “I wouldn't had offered if it weren't.”
InuYasha's face nearly split it two as he smiled. He couldn't believe his luck. He knew he shouldn't get his hopes up but it was hard when his wishes were being fulfilled one by one.
He followed the other down the street, talking and laughing. InuYasha took notice of the way they took and while it was a distance from his own home he still knew the area.
Sesshoumaru took them to a two store building with a wooden stair leading to the second floor. The journey took them up it and two doors out of three down the path stopped Sesshoumaru. He fetched out his keys and unlocked the door, stepping in first before InuYasha followed.
The apartment wasn't what he had expected from the outside. It was much more airy and larger. It consisted of a large room with a kitchen connected to it. It was still sparely decorated but tastefully. There were probably not a single thing that didn't feel outside in this space. There weren't any littering anywhere in the room, if you didn't include the bed that were rumpled and unmade from the night that had been.
He could hear the older man moving about in the kitchen and the sound of running water as he looked at the bed.
“The phone is by the bed.” called from the kitchen.
“Thank you.” he said without thinking. He grabbed the phone rougher than he intended.
After he pushed the number and waited Sesshoumaru came back into the room, carrying a vase with the tulips and walked over to the only table in the room. He put it more to the left side before walking over to the window, pushed the curtain that almost blocked the sun aside and opened the window.
A soft breeze pushed past him and hit InuYasha square in the face.
“Ah, hello? It's me! No I'm all right. Yes. Yes. Yeah. I will be staying out a little longer. I'm at Sesshoumaru's place. Is that so. OK. Yes. I understand. No. No problem at all. Yes. See you soon.”
“Trouble?” asked Sesshoumaru with his back to the window.
InuYasha put the phone back and looked up with a slightly disappointed face. “Some. Seems there are some of the family causing trouble. Father wants me home soon as possible.”
“Is that so.”
Something suddenly stroked itself against InuYasha's leg. Causing him to jump high and scare him witless.
Sesshoumaru laughed as he bent down and caught the running animal that came his way. He held it firmly against his chest and stroked its fur with one of his fingers.
“It's just Missy.” he said as he showed InuYasha the cat that had just surprised him. The feline couldn't be more than one-two years but still were just a little larger than Sesshoumaru's hands. Her fur were a mix of grey, white and brown. One ear was tipped with a white spot and her tail wagered back and forth while purring in curiosity.
“You have a cat?” stated InuYasha as his racing heart came back down.
“Yes. Is that so surprising?”
“I took you more for a dog person.”
“Haha.” Sesshoumaru lifted Missy to his face so they were nose to nose until she licked him and looked away just to rub her head against his and purr loudly. “Well... I like cats more. While a dog can be faithful to its master I think cats are more sensual creatures.”
“Is that so.”
“Yes.” Sesshoumaru gave a sly smile. “Owners tend to pick up their animals habits, be it consciously or unconsciously it happens all the time. Beside there are some advantage to Missy.”
“And that is.”
Without explaining Sesshoumaru walked closer until he was standing at arms length. Missy still in his hands but she was looking at the unknown human that had entered her home. Suddenly she was handed over to the newcomer and she put her pawn against InuYasha's chest to keep from getting to close. She pushed back and slipped from Sesshoumaru's grip to land safely on the floor and escaping to the kitchen.
“If she accepts you she will come back soon and snuggle. If she doesn't she will keep her distance. She is like a walking approval machine.”
The teen gave it some quick thought. “That can be useful.”
A hand landed on InuYasha's shoulder and he looked at it before facing its owner. Sesshoumaru gave him a smile before letting go. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
Sesshoumaru just walked away and didn't say anything.
“For what?” InuYasha repeated after him, wanting to hear the answer but got no reply. He instead picked up one of the tulips and gave it to InuYasha.
“I want you to have it.” he said gently.
InuYasha was dumbfounded and could just stare at it. He was given flowers. Him. Flowers. From Sesshoumaru. No way.
“Don't you want it?” he asked, tilting his head slightly.
He snapped out of it and took it, their fingers brushed, and a faint crimson tinted InuYasha's cheeks. He didn't know how to respond to this and stammered a 'thank you' before he turned to leave. Better do that before he embarrassed himself even more.
“I had a nice day.” he mumbled but when Sesshoumaru leaned forward and kissed his check, it really took him by surprise and he didn't know what to do. His face felt like it was burning.
“Me too.” Sesshoumaru stepped back and watched the teen when the feline decided to come back and she walked right up to InuYasha and rubbed against his leg with all her might. She let out a 'Reow' before doing so on the other leg.
A chuckle drew his attention and Sesshoumaru lowered his hand from his face. “Looks like she approves of you very much.”
“Thank you, Missy.” InuYasha jokingly said to the cat and was answered with a meow. “Thank you, Sesshoumaru. See you soon.” he opened the door.
“Yeah. Bye.”
“Bye.”
“Reow.”
“Bye Missy.”
The door closed between them, leaving Sesshoumaru standing in the hall with Missy sitting at his feet. “Shall we get to dinner, my Queen?” She looked up at her master and her ear twitched before she walked back into the room with a skip in her steps.
Outside InuYasha walked down the stairs all the while his heart beat against his ribs and he held tightly onto the tulip. Afraid that if he didn't he would drop it somewhere and think it all a dream.
