It's the way that he makes you cry.
It's the way that he's in your mind.

It's the way that he makes you fall in love.

It's the way that he makes you feel.
It's the way that he kisses you.

It's the way that he makes you fall in love...

SUGARCULT-“Pretty Girl”

“READY.”

“SET.”

“GO!!!”

Leaning against the reception desk Kagome watched in amusement as Shippo, Kohaku and her brother Sota raced across the main foyer on luggage trolleys. She could remember several times over the years in this industry when she had done the same thing.

…or in fact still did.

Late night shifts on a Wednesday did that to people working in this hotel. There hadn't been a single customer in sight since eight, and seeing as it was now ten Kagome couldn't see that many more would be turning up in the near future. In fact it was so quiet that she had already sent Ayame home for the day. There was no need for both of them to be stuck here.

Kagome turned her attention back to the three teens and watched as they made their way to the other end of the lobby and lined up their luggage trolleys once again.

It had come to quite a surprise when Sota and Kohaku had revealed that they actually knew Shippo and were in fact best friends with him. Even more of a surprise when she found out they had met through Sango. Apparently she and Shippo were really close friends and would often visit Sango's family with her—go figure?

“You realize you guys are never going to beat me?” Shippo spoke up, “I am a demon you know.”

Kohaku and Sota shrugged. “We're up for it.”

“READY.”

“SET.”

“GO!!!”

Getting a run up Shippo launched himself across the room. “See ya guys later!” Not wanting to be beaten the other two teens followed suit and sped after him. Not surprisingly the race only lasted twenty seconds. With his skill, not to mention his demon speed, Shippo was over the finish line before the other two were even half way across the floor.

Shippo came to a graceful stop and gave his friends a smug smile. Unfortunately for the other two however their skills at stopping where the same as their racing.

Flying past, Sota used his feet to skid to a halt. “Damn!! He beat us again!!”

“SHIT!” A loud crash echoed throughout the elegant lobby as Kohaku crashed his luggage trolley into a near-by marble pillar.

Kagome shook her head as Sota and Shippo rush over to their friend. Those guys seriously needed to learn how to break.

Turning away from the pile up of luggage trolleys, Kagome suddenly found her attention drawn towards the other side of the hotel. There, acting as if he had no care in the world, was Inuyasha standing off in the corner flirting with one of the customers—obviously female.

Kagome shook her head. She still found it hard to believe that out of all the hotels she received a job offer from it was one that he was working at. At times it definitely felt like fate was just not on her side. However, there was no way that she would let Inuyasha get to her and ruin the best job she could possibly hope to acquire at her age. In the hospitability industry, jobs were extremely hard to come by, especially now since Japan was in the midst of a slight economic depression. Kagome knew she had to stay on top of her game if she wanted to keep this job.

Ironically, it seemed that now not only was she going to have to be on top of her game at work but with Inuyasha as well. Kagome knew only too well what type of game Inuyasha could play. Her first few days here had definitely proven that. Though they had not spoken since that first encounter last week, Inuyasha had made it abundantly clear that he was not going to let her time here be peaceful. No matter where Kagome was in the hotel, he was somewhere nearby—it was almost as if he was her shadow.

Kagome narrowed her eyes as she watched Inuyasha suddenly kiss his current victim on the hand. God how she hated him. Women to him were just toys to be played with—she learned that the hard way. Oh how she wished she could go over and give that arsehole a piece of her mind. Unfortunately however she knew that that was exactly the reaction that Inuyasha was probably aiming for.

Manipulative bastard.

Not able to take any more of the pathetic crap in front of her Kagome turned on her heels and decided to go visit Sango in her office. Knowing the former boxer, Sango was probably devising knew ways to torture Miroku next time he decided to grope her—not that it would deter the perverted chef in any way. Miroku was definitely a man who did not take no for an answer. Kagome had already witnessed her fair share of beatings between those two and it was only her third day.

An arm suddenly snaked its way around Kagome's waist and jerked her backwards, jolting her away from her current train of thought. “And just were do you think you are going?”

Kagome's eyes widened as she found herself face to face with the very man she had just been cursing. “Inuyasha? What the hell do you think you are doing?!”

“What does it look like I'm doing?” He replied, pressing Kagome up against the corridor wall. “I am giving you exactly what you wanted.”

Inuyasha bent his head closer so that their faces were nose to nose, “I saw you staring at me while I was talking to that other woman. You forget that I am a demon, Kagome. I could smell the jealously radiating off you a mile away.”

“Get the hell off me, Inuyasha!! Take your deluded fantasies and shove them up your arse!”

“Such language, Kagome. And here I thought you were trying to become a respectable woman.”

Anger flashed across Kagome's eyes as she attempted to break free of Inuyasha grip on her. Using all her strength she raised her arm and punched the inu-hanyou straight in the jaw.

“You should have learned by now that I don't put up with your shit, Inuyasha.” Kagome spoke up, breaking free of his grasp and placing a gap between them.

Inuyasha moved towards her, his tall, muscular body crowding her, too close, too angry and too male. “You know, Kagome, anger and jealously seem to really suit you.” He licked his lips, “Besides, we've already been through this once just recently and we both know how that ended. Why don't we just skip this charade and get down to the fun stuff?”

Kagome took a single step back but allowed herself no more. She wouldn't back down, no matter what. “Just what do you expect to gain from this, Inuyasha? You know your tricks don't work with me. I've seen your true self. You can't fool me like you do all the other simpletons you try and seduce.”

This just couldn't be happening. Kagome knew that Inuyasha was determined to get unde her skin but she honestly didn't think he would try again so soon after his first attempt. This was going exactly how it had the last time. She had to try and defuse the situation before things got totally out of hand. There was no way she was going to let this bastard get the best of her.

If Inuyasha wanted to play with fire then he had better be prepared to get burned.

“I am sorry to contradict you, Kagome, but I must say that you are wrong about me on several accounts.” Inuyasha began to once again walk towards Kagome, “You see, for one, you make think you know me—but you aren't even close. You may think that you know what I can do, again…” he stopped in front of the fuming woman and leant forward, “You are wrong.” He whispered into one of her ears.

Inuyasha traced Kagome's collarbone with his thumb, watching with satisfaction as her eyes flashed. His other hand swept over to her back, her waist, slow, tantalizing circles that were gradually making their way along the back of her body. Kagome narrowed her eyes and clenched her fists, trying desperately to prove that no matter what Inuyasha couldn't affect her any more. She refused to let this end the same way as it had before.

She'd rather die then admit defeat again.

Unfortunately for Kagome however, Inuyasha was just as determined and it was time to step up his game. Slowly, almost languorous, the inu-hanyou began to trail hot kisses up and down Kagome's neck, softly nipping at her delicate flesh once in a while.

“This…won't work against me again.”

Inuyasha smirked and pressed himself closer to her, pulling his lips away from Kagome's neck. "Is that so? Well once again, I'm afraid to say that you are mistaken. You forget,” leaning his face only inches away, Inuyasha caressed her neck with a lone finger, “I've heard you beg for me,” he replied huskily.

Kagome eyes flashed open—once again, she knew that she was letting Inuyasha weave his spell over her. No matter how much she hated the bastard she had to admit that regrettably the man (or half demon in his case) did have a way with his talented hands.

“I think I've had my fun for today.”

To Kagome's total humiliation Inuyasha suddenly pulled away from her and gave her a cocky grin. “As much as I'd love to pursue this further I actually have to get back to work.” Turning around, the inu-hanyou started to walk away. “It's been fun.”

Wait…wait a second; he did not get the last word! “Now you just wait one fucking minute! Don't you dare just walk away!!”

Inuyasha's infamous smirk formed across his lips, “What? You want some more!”

Kagome stormed after him and shoved him against the wall. She knew now that no matter how she tried her body would always betray her. It pissed her off to no end that though she may hate him her body sure as hell didn't.

If this was how things were going to be then it was going to be on her terms.

“You think you're all that? That it's all one sided, Inuyasha? Well let's see how you feel when I turn the tables.”

Lifting herself up on her heels, Kagome crushed her lips against his and kissed him, savouring his mouth, teasing his lips with her tongue, delving within when Inuyasha had moaned in longing for her touch. This kiss went on and on, evoking memories of pleasure, promising oblivion from pain.

Her hands clenched and pulled at his hair as her tongue unrelentingly tangled with his, biting harshly into his lip, not hard enough to bleed, but hard enough to hurt. Kagome constantly found herself pressing against the hardness gouging her middle, seeking that unattainable contact. Pain was most definitely balanced with pleasure in this act of intimacy.

As response to this, the sound that issued from Inuyasha's throat was feral. He savoured her, nibbling her sweet, small mouth. He tasted her, running his tongue against the seam of her lips, delving within. They both became engrossed in their heated kiss. As all their kisses were, it was consuming, mind numbing and earth shaking. No matter how hard they tried, they were addicted to each others touch.

Kagome knew that what was supposed to simply be a kiss to prove a point had turned into something far more. She had now personally verified that he no longer thought he was the only one with the power to play this game of seduction. However Kagome knew that if she didn't stop now everything she had achieved would be ruined.

Breaking their kiss, she used Inuyasha's surprise at the lost of contact and shoved him aside. “Seems like I'm not the only one who can't get enough.”

“Unbelievable…” closing his eyes, Inuyasha frowned, hating the fact she was right—hating the fact that this time she had beaten him.

He turned away, annoyed at himself. How could he have let Kagome make him give into temptation like that? It seemed that even now, nobody but her could make him lose control like that. Nobody.

“Well as much as I'd love to pursue this further I actually have to get back to work.” Kagome spoke up, imitating Inuyasha's words from before. Turning around, she started to walk away. “It's been fun.”

Inuyasha stood there silently and watched. It was obvious that she would head towards Sango office, however he decided to let her go for now. He had to admit Kagome had seriously pulled a fast one over him just now.

“Fuck.”

Inuyasha

I was a first year student studying Business Management at Sydney Uni when I first met Kagome Higurashi. She was the type of girl that made friends easily however preferred to be alone. She wasn't afraid to tell people what she thought, and often stuck up for those who couldn't.

Everyone in the university knew I was not one to be messed with, and when it came right down to it…that was what made me king. In fact, most girls basically worship the ground I walk on; despite the fact I was a total arsehole to all of them.

Kagome Higurashi on the other hand was the only one in the school who at first didn't even acknowledge I existed. I was used to girls falling all over me and bending to my every wish, but Kagome would simply push me out of the way and move off to her next class. Kagome was the only person I knew besides my brother that could seriously piss me off. (Maybe the mangy wolf)

I thought that I would like the fact that she wasn't infatuated with me. It would be a nice change to have at least one girl who didn't try and get in my pants. I like my solitude, so having one less person to get out of my way seemed like a good thing.

But Kagome Higurashi didn't fear me either; she isn't afraid to tell me off, or lecture me. Kagome was the only girl who wasn't afraid to tell me what she really thought of me. We were total opposites, getting along like cats and dogs. In fact, she's even punched my jaw at one stage. Kagome Higurashi was a person who was a complete enigma to me.

And I'm not use to that at all.

One afternoon, instead of heading straight off to Karate, I followed her. I watched as she headed down Acacia Boulevard, turned into Centennial Park and then climbed to the highest point—observatory hill.

Kagome opened her bag and spread out in front of a tree with her textbooks. “I know you're there,” she called out and looked over her shoulder towards me. “Don't you have some fan-girl to fuck? Why were you following me?”

It's a free country, I can walk wherever I want.”

Kagome let out an irritated sigh, “Stop with the bullshit, Inuyasha. We both know you were following me. Now, I'll only ask once more, what is it that you want?”

What did I want? Why was I so fascinated with Kagome Higurashi? And then it hit me. Kagome presented a challenge that I was at this moment losing. At this moment, I could have any other girl—except her.

Take a walk with me?” I asked.

I raised an eyebrow as Kagome stood up and stormed over towards me. “Listen you! I don't what game you are playing at but I, unlike you, actually enrolled in university to study and earn a degree. I don't want, nor do I need, you to follow me around in attempts to try and get in my pants! It won't work!”

Unfortunately for Kagome she was so busy lecturing me that she failed to notice the loose tree root sticking up from the ground. I watched in surprise as she suddenly tripped over the said root and collided right into me, in turn causing us both to fall back and topple down observatory hill.

We roll down as a pile of entangled limbs—no really distinction where one of us started and one of us ended—and tumble into the lake pond with a loud splash.

Dragging myself out of the water, I attempt to squeeze the pond scum from my hair, “I hope you realise you are paying for my dry cleaning.”

You have to be kidding,” Kagome replies, bursting out laughing as she followed me out, “It's not like a little water ever hurt anyone.”

A little amount of water? My clothes are soaked? Not to mention there is seaweed in my hair.”

Kagome simply waves her hand dismissively, “You'll get over it.”

Don't you dare just walk away from me!” I argue, determined to get some sort of retribution for my humiliation.

You want payment?”

She saunters over and if I wasn't mistaken it almost looked as if she planned to kiss me. I have to admit I was surprised but hey, if that was her game then I certainly was not going to complain.

Standing in front of me, Kagome stared into my eyes for a moment before tilting her head up towards mine. Slowly, both our mouths closed in—however what I didn't realise was that a wicked smirk had suddenly formed across her lips.

Just when we were millimetres apart, Kagome suddenly gave a short laugh and pushed me back into the pond.

HIGURASHI!!!”

There's the first piece of Inuyasha and Kagome's long history. I assure you there will be several more looks into their past to come—I have it all planned out. It's a very long and bumpy ride (but then since when is any relationship not like that?)

Hope you guys are satisfied with what I have given you so far, there is plenty more to come. Kagome's father will be introduced soon as well as a complete plot twist that will change our favourite characters lives as we know it!!

Shameless plug: I have just posted a new Inu/ Kag story that has been rolling around in my head for a while now. I am really excited to have finally putten words to paper. (or computer screen I guess.)

Here's a summary: “Look, we'd just be asking for trouble” Kagome said. “It would be a stupid move” Inuyasha agreed with her. “Stupid?” she laughed, “It would be one of the biggest mistakes in the history of the world!” Do they care? Of course not!

So if you have time take a look. I promise you, you won't be disappointed!!

Cheers!!

Jess.
