InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ I Heard That ❯ My child......Ye need Help ( Chapter 2 )
Chapter II
Kagome reached Kaede's village a little after noon. Kirara landed gracefully in front of the old miko's hut. Kagome rushed inside the small living area calling for Kaede. She jumped as Kaede called from behind her.
"Yes child."
"Ah" Kagome yelped.
"What is wrong with ye" Kaede said surprise and confusion written all over her face.
"Oh Kaede something's happening to me and I…I think I'm going crazy" Kagome said worried. Kagome had been thinking about the incident during the whole trip. She still had no idea what had happened. Kaede just looked at her with compassionate eyes and motioned her to sit down.
"Now child, tell me, what is troubling ye" Kaede said sweetly as she poured hot tea into Kagome's cup. Kagome sipped it slowly before explaining what had happened earlier that day.
"So you see that's why I came here" Kagome said relieved that she finally told someone she thought could help her.
"My child………….Ye need help" Kaede said flatly but she had an odd expression on her face. Kagome stared at the women slightly angered. `Uh duh that's why I came here' Kagome thought her anger turning into frustration. She was about to speak when Kaede cut her off.
"And I….can not help ye" Kaede said with the same expression. Kagome just froze for what seemed the hundredth time that day. `Oh no if Kaede can't help, then who can' Kagome thought.
"Thy may know of those who can, but…" Kaede broke off. She looked lost in thought as she poked the coals in the fire.
"But what, Kaede" Kagome urged.
"But they are difficult to find and are very… selective about whom they help" Kaede said pondering if sending Kagome for their aid would be a good idea.
"Why are they so selective?" Kagome asked wondering who they are.
"Because they are outsiders and not trusting of others" Kaede tried to explain.
"That still doesn't help me any Kaede" Kagome groaned
"They have a power that can help ye, but they fear the power falling into the wrong hands." Kaede stated with a sigh and then continued. "They are the three; past, present, and future. Sanshi, can hear echoes of the past but can not see or tell their meaning. Tenshi can see visions of the future but can not hear or tell its meaning. Last is Misuteri who can tell the feelings of the present, she tells their meaning with out hearing or seeing the" Kaede was about to explain more when Kagome cut her off.
"You mean ones blind, ones deaf, and ones mute." Kagome hastily inquired trying to imagine how they help each other survive.
"Nay, Kagome ye have misunderstood my words" Kaede said calmly "I do not mean physically. I mean mentally."
"Oh, so they are not impaired." Kagome said.
"Aye child" Kaede stated sighing. Sending Kagome after the three was not something Kaede wanted to do. She knew the three well having had several encounters with them. True they were not evil and did not wish harm to anyone. The fact was that they were highly defensive against new comers and in these dangerous times had become even more so. `…but what other choice do I have at this time' Kaede thought with a slight knot forming in her stomach `We need to know what Kagome is experiencing and why, for this could be the work Naraku.' With a look of pure concern Kaede continued to explain about the three.
"Ye will need to convince the three to use their power to help ye find the answers." Kaede was about to tell Kagome how to find the three when again she was cut off.
"But Kaede you said they each had their own power" Kagome said slightly confused.
"Aye child, that is what I said, but ye did not let me finish." Kaede said now getting frustrated at all the interruptions. "They all have their own special ability but when they join together they can hear all, see all, and tell all. This is the power that may be able to explain what ye is dealing with."
"Oh so how do I find this three" Kagome said
"I will tell ye, if ye will let me finish" Kaede said even more frustrated then before. "Ye will need to travel in the direction of the setting sun for half a day, then ye will need to continue on foot since I presume you will be taking Kirara with ye, and the three can not be seen from above. Continue traveling in the direction of the sun until ye come to a small valley. There ye must use this." Kaede handed Kagome a small beautiful flute with a dragon and cherry blossoms engraved in it. "They hath given this to me incase I ever require their assistance. Do ye know how to play this instrument?" Kaede asked
"Uh well my cousin plays the flute and she once taught me, a little" Kagome said unsure if she could do this, it was starting to sound dangerous and very difficult.
"I will show ye." and with that Kaede pulled out an old less impressive wooden flute and began playing a short simple six note tune. It sounded like what it was meant for, a calling. The tune steadily increased in pitch for two notes before dropping to a low note and then repeated this but the last low note was trilled the second time. It wasn't anything special. "Now ye try it." Kaede instructed. Kagome mimicked Kaede movements but the sound that came was anything but musical. "Try again, let go of ye thoughts and let the flute guide ye." Kaede said showing Kagome the fingerings again. `Let the flute guide me, maybe Kaede is losing her mind, oh well what have I got to lose' Kagome took a deep breath and put her lips to the mouth of the flute like her cousin had shown her many summers before. This time the sound that came out was not only musical but magical and her fingers did not stop after the trill but continued, building in beauty and grandeur. It echoed through out the village like a whisper on the wind before fading into the distance. It was enchanting to say the least.
"What….what just happened?" Kagome said startled and awe struck at the same time. "It was if I had always known how to play that song."
"That flute ye hold is enchanted, no matter who plays it, as long as they know the first part of the tune, the flute will guide the player through the rest of the song" Kaede explained.
"Ok, I guess I should get going then." Kagome said getting to her feet. `I can do this just as long as I remember the first part of the song. Oh boy am I in trouble.' Kagome walked outside with Kaede and Kirara close behind her.
"Just remember all I have told ye. I shall await your return, it should only take ye a day or so to find them." Kaede said.
"Oh that's right, I forgot I was supposed to return to Inuyasha and the others before night fall. Maybe I should get them to come with me." Kagome said climbing on the back of the fully transformed Kirara.
"Nay child, I am afraid the others would only make this journey more difficult. Ye must go alone." Kaede said her face never faltering from its concerned expression.
"Alright, if you say so Kaede." Kagome then took to the sky once more. `Should I at least go tell them where I'm going. No, they would only insist on going. I hope they don't worry to much or get angry with me. Man I can almost here Inuyasha now: YOU WENT WHERE, TO SEE WHO, AND YOU DIDN'T TELL US, YOU COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED STUPID'
Kagome sighed before taking one last look at Kaede and waved.
"Good luck child, ye will need it" Kaede sighed as she watched Kagome wave at her from the back of Kirara.
