She felt so depressed. Everyone - everything around her seemed to feel the romance she was so obviously lacking. She had read about it in books, she had heard about it from friends, but she had never known what it was truly like to be loved and cherished by anyone. Hell, she would settle with someone looking at her suggestively. It was spring and everything around her was screaming romance and love. Which in turn dug her deeper into her hole of depression. It seemed that everywhere she went there was some guy and his girlfriend holding hands, kissing, or just generally showing their affection. It was starting to make her sick. She just wanted to yell, "GET A ROOM!" till her lungs burst, but was afraid of sounding like the hentai's she hated. She knew she wasn't ready for a relationship, but she couldn't help but feel stressed, left-out, and all together miserable. She wasn't going to be like some of her friends and just pick of the first thing with a dick to pass her. No she was waiting for Mr. Right, as deluded as that sounds. She was waiting for the man that could sweep her off her feet with just one look, the man that would treat her as an equal and not just some manipulatable toy. She was waiting for the man that, with one touch could have her burning with desire. That is what she was waiting for, call it what you will, but she just called it raising the bar for future females. As she sat there looking out her window she longed for a man to come around and show her the true meaning of love…

"INUYASHA!!" a warm and bubbly voice yelled.

"What can I do you for Rin?" Inuyasha asked with his usual cocky edge.

"Sesshomaru-sama wishes to see you in his office." Rin replied casually. This had become well known to her. It was an everyday occurrence here at Youkai Headquarters.

"Well of course Rin, I would be pleased to see him. How is my brother doing anyway?" Inuyasha asked, his words dripping with spite and sarcasm.

"Inu-kun, why must you always pull his chain…" Rin sighed dejectedly. "I don't think it's be too bad this time. A new case maybe?" Rin asked optimistically. They had barely recovered from their last fight, she didn't need another one on her hands with all the stuff Sesshy was making her do today.

"A new case, really? Did he say anything about it?" Inuyasha asked a bit hopeful. It had been awhile since he had been on a case and he was itching to get back on the seen. `Anything to take my mind of… stuff…' Sesshomaru had let him have a little leeway considering what had happened between him and K… No, that was the past, he wouldn't dwell on it now. It was over… She was over…

"Inuyasha… you're late…" an icy, masculine voice rose from inside the office.

"Inuyasha, get in there…" Rin whispered as she proceeded in pushing him through the doors.

After Rin had sat him down and left, he was suddenly awoken from his trance. `What the hell, how did I get in Sesshomaru's office?' he questioned himself.

"Inuyasha, are you ready to continue working here at Youkai Headquarters?" Sesshomaru asked, and if not for his icy mask, Inuyasha would have swore he saw concern in those eyes.

"Yeah… I'm fine Sesshomaru…" Inuyasha said still a little surprised at the so-called concern he swore he saw. "So, is there a new case?" Inuyasha asked trying to snap himself out of the daze.

"Yes, there is. Her name is Kagome Higurashi, one of the KiHime Shrine's women. She is your new case." Sesshomaru replied, cold facade still intact.

"Oh really? And why would the co-op. send me to, I assume, watch over this wench?"

"It seems she poses a threat to our kind… well maybe not yours," Sesshomaru mumbled the last part under his breath. He knew how touchy his brother was about being a half demon and now probably wasn't the right time to push his buttons. "she is a young and powerful miko. Albeit, she is unaware of this. The co-operation is worried that one day she will rise up a rebellion against us… They intend to have you make sure she does not discover these powers of hers…" Sesshomaru said dismissively (AN: is that even a word? Oh well, is now… hehe).

"And if she does?" Inuyasha quipped, preparing for the worst. Killing youkai he could handle, but a defenseless female ningen, he wasn't so sure his very small conscience could handle it.

"Naturally you will dispose of her. The company and the government mind you, is not willing to have some powerful, attractive, young miko running around rallying to her cause. You just need to pull her plug and the rest will be taken care of." (AN: clean up crew!) Sesshomaru stated as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

"Attractive?" Inuyasha questioned disbelievingly. He hadn't met many miko's, but for the most part they were all ugly. Not to mention the fact it came from Sesshomaru, the almighty ningen hater, rarely called anyone attractive, besides Rin of course, the only nigen in his life, that he `graced' with his presence.

"Yes, see for yourself… here is her case file." Sesshomaru said evenly as he handed Inuyasha her case file.

Once Inuyasha opened her file and skipped to her picture, there was only one simple word going through his mind to describe her. `Wow. She really is beautiful… but there is something familiar about her that I just can't put my finger on…'

Sesshomaru was sitting back nervously in his chair, not that you could tell through his masquerade. He knew of Inuyasha's relationship and how amazingly alike this girl was to her. He was just hoping that Inuyasha wouldn't get over the initial shock of her beauty before exiting his office. The last thing he needed was Inuyasha on a tirade. Thankfully for Sesshomaru and the priceless artifacts in his office Inuyasha did not realize until later (AN: hmm who to make him explode on… Miroku, hands where I can see `em or it'll be you… HENTAI!! *THUD* well I think I've decided… sorry Sango… I'll send flowers).

`Gods… she is beautiful… She is a goddess… one hell goddess… what the fuck? Sure she's pretty, but honestly… stupid brain… stupid hormones… grr…' Inuyasha was battling it out in his mind until Sesshomaru interrupted his brain waves.

"Inuyasha you will be taking two others with you, a `Miroku Houshi' and a `Sango Taijiya'. I assume you've worked with these ningens before… so I want no arguments… Understood?" Sesshomaru demanded more than asked.

"Why The Houshi and Sango? I am perfectly capable on my own."

"`The Houshi' as you called him has access to many records and places, and Ms. Taijiya will be getting to know Ms. Higurashi… You didn't think you could just walk up to her, introduce yourself and then expect that she be with you every waking moment, did you?" Sesshomaru rose a delicate, curious brow towards his brother, who merely growled in return.

"Ms. Higurashi is renting a room in her apartment, and the shrine has an opening for another shrine woman. This is the only way we can have eyes on her at all moments. Between you and Sango, the girl will barely be about to breathe, let alone discover her powers without someone noticing. Besides, I have heard that Sango needs a little female interaction. Spending time with you and `the houshi' must be physically and mentally exhausting." Sesshomaru finished. "If you have any other concerns or questions, you know how to reach me." And with that said Sesshomaru went back to signing documents and reading papers.
