I Was Scared…
-An Inuyasha One-shot
WARNING!!!! LEMON MARKED WITH ***

“Kaze no Kizu!” Inuyasha cried as he sent claws of his youki barreling towards the enormous, disgusting, smelly warthog demon with his sword.

He could feel how much his power had waned - it was the night of the New Moon, and even though they had travelled back to Kaede's village for the night, one youkai had singled them out, in search of the miko that could see the shards of the Shikon no Tama. So now they stood here, battling this demon that was much quicker than it looked.

He watched as the pig rolled away, easily avoiding the attack. He looked over at his friends the demon slayer and the monk, hoping they could offer help. Inuyasha hated to rely on others, but he could feel his youkai blood getting sleepy, preparing to go dormant for the night. They needed to finish this thing off before he changed fully…

“Inuyasha, watch out!” Kagome called to him.

He turned just in time to find the warthog charging at him, only a few yards away, his tusks screaming for hanyou blood. But Inuyasha had fought this battle countless times with numerous foes, all calling for his death and all believing they were stronger.

Unfortunately tonight, the demon was indeed the stronger.

That's not to say Inuyasha had given up. Not by far. He had been in worse predicaments, and in much worse shape. In fact, he was still virtually unharmed. Grinning at the boar whose eyes were red in its' madness, Inuyasha prepared to leap out of the way.

But the effect of the New Moon was evident - Inuyasha was too slow. As he leaped to his left, one of the demon's tusks ripped through Inuyasha's haori, grazing his side and effectively demolishing the only protection the hanyou had. Growling, Inuyasha tore the garment off, throwing to the floor. He turned to find where the youkai had stopped so he could ready himself for another attack, but there wouldn't be one… yet.

“Kagome!” he cried, watching in horror as the demon charged straight for the woman he loved.

Why hadn't he anticipated it? Why hadn't he stopped it? If only he had killed the beast earlier. If only… Shaking his head clear, Inuyasha leapt towards the rushing creature. Sango threw Hiraikotsu, following her battle cry, but it was to no avail. The brute sidestepped it mid-run, and kept going. Miroku could do nothing - his sutras would not reach in time, and his size was no match for the gigantic boar.

Kagome watched in a stunned dreadfulness as first, Inuyasha nearly was killed, and then the fiend kept coming - straight at her. She was scared stiff for a moment, but some tiny part of her brain - in charge of self-preservation - kicked in, and just as the youkai reached her, she performed a strange maneuver that allowed the animal to hit her in the back. There were no real wounds, she discovered soon, just a torn uniform and a bruise. And as an added bonus, the monster was temporarily stunned, having hit the trunk of a rather large tree after passing Kagome.

Inuyasha was so relieved that when he reached her, he scooped her into his arms, holding her tight. She saw the emotion in his eyes, and she felt so much joy in that moment, she nearly forgot their situation.

“Oh, Inuyasha… I thought you… Are you changing already?” She didn't know where to begin.

“Kagome, I'm sorry… I should've been there sooner,” he said, not listening to her words, his concern too great.

“Um… guys?” Sango warned, not wanting to break up the moment, but seeing as the youkai was coming to his senses…

Inuyasha looked up at the taijiya, then to the demon. It was shaking its' great head, attempting to clear it. He knew he should strike while he could… Scowling, Inuyasha put Kagome down and told her to get away. She nodded and ran towards her friends, hiding behind the massive firecat. Sango leapt off, running towards the fight. She wanted to help, and she knew Inuyasha wouldn't ask. Miroku wasn't far behind, and the little miko was left alone with Shippou and Kirara.

Sango let the giant boomerang loose again, this time grazing the creature that had their hanyou friend cornered. It squealed in pain, and Inuyasha was almost glad for his dulling senses. Tessaiga would no longer transform for him, and he used his claws to swipe at the animal. He was able to rake his claws down the demon's face, making it wail all the louder, but there was no punch to it - his demon power was fading quickly.

It was dusk now, Kagome realized. Any moment, Inuyasha's hair and eyes would change color, and his fangs and claws would disappear with his youkai heritage. He would be human - and vulnerable. She called out to him, but with his weakened hearing, he couldn't hear above the foul monster's cry. She watched as the ever-crafty houshi approached from the side…

She heard Sango cry out to her fiancée as his plan backfired. He had slapped an ofuda on the beast's back, but when it felt the electricity of the spell, it kicked backwards, landing a blow to the monk's stomach and sending him flying into a nearby tree. Kagome ran towards him and was joined by the demon slayer. They tried to assess his wounds, but they seemed to be internal.

Inuyasha had watched his friends become targeted, one-by-one, and was fed up. He hadn't been good enough. The swine was beginning to take control of himself, and Inuyasha had little time to figure something out. He saw something on the ground…

Kagome was prodding a spot on the houshi's side, and he whimpered even in his state of unconsciousness. “Broken ribs,” she told her friend who was sobbing quietly.

Sango nodded. “Houshi-sama…” she whispered.

There was nothing else she could do. Kagome looked up and watched in horror as the youkai loomed over Inuyasha. Something didn't feel right, and she realized the sunlight was almost gone. The hog reached for her hanyou friend; Inuyasha jumped and wasn't harmed. But then the creature, not wanting to take any more chances, lunged. His giant frame was at least four times bigger than the half-demons'. Kagome saw the beast cover Inuyasha, falling onto him; she couldn't see him anymore…

She screamed his name.

And then, there was silence.

Kagome realized the demon wasn't moving as well, and began walking towards the grisly scene. Tears fell as she began to jog. She called to him, over and over, as she ran blindingly towards the man she wanted to spend her life with. Sango held Miroku, still not awake, and hoped…

She couldn't move it. It was too heavy. It was just too big. Crying his name and using her grief to gain strength, Kagome budged the creature. But she couldn't move it off of Inuyasha. She cried and pushed, but to no avail. She felt a hand on her shoulder; Sango had come to her, even though Miroku still needed her care. She wanted to throw herself into Sango's arms, but there was still work to do. With a rush of warm air, the two-tailed cat landed beside them, also pushing. Shippou called to them from Miroku's side, but they were absorbed in their task.

The two women pushed with all their might, and it moved, little-by-little. After several moments, it moved more. And then more. With one heavy thrust, the creature was rolled onto its' side, and to their surprise, Inuyasha had pushed the last bit. He had been helping the whole time. Kagome knelt at his side, checking for wounds and sobbing, but he assured her he was fine - just a little winded from the weight of the beast. He was, however, thoroughly coated in demon blood.

But Kagome knew better. Inuyasha always made it seem as if he wasn't hurt, or not as badly - always playing the tough guy. She shook, her blood filled with adrenaline and her quick heartbeat rapidly distributing it. He brought her into an embrace, smoothing her hair. When she opened her eyes, she realized his hair was black; really, she had known it would be, it was just always a shock to see it.

Her attention was grabbed by Sango, who was pulling her sword out from the youkai's throat. Inuyasha smirked at her when she turned towards him, swiping the blade downwards to rid it of the thick blood.

“Hmm… I guess I dropped it when I ran to Houshi-sama,” she said to no one in particular.

“Yeah, it's good thing ya did,” Inuyasha said.

Kagome said nothing as she realized how Inuyasha had triumphed. They got up and walked over to where Miroku was laying. Shippou was wiping tears away, and Inuyasha teased him. The kit whined to Kagome, but she remained silent, as if in a daze. The fox looked at her strangely, but since no one else said anything, he let it be.

Sango and Inuyasha lifted Miroku onto the nekomata's back, and Sango jumped on, holding her betrothed as they flew the short distance to their friends' home. Inuyasha and Kagome walked in silence, with Shippou filling the silence from the miko's shoulder.

----------------------------------------------------------------- --------

When Miroku was taken care of and awake they ate greedily, made hungry by the strain on their bodies and minds. Kagome hardly ate, giving most of her dinner to the kitsune, despite Inuyasha's attempts to swat him away.

Shippou laughed at the now-human. “You can't hurt me now, Inuyasha. Actually, I'm probably stronger than you now,” the little demon gloated.

He was kept from boasting further by the subject of his taunts, who had him by the tail.

“Wanna test that theory, brat?”

They scowled at each other, but they both noticed a huge absence, and looked over at Kagome, who was playing with her food. They watched her push her rice around with the chopsticks for a moment before Inuyasha put the fox kit down. They were both sobered, and Shippou quietly went to play in a corner of the hut as Inuyasha eyed the young woman. He decided not to say anything.

When they were done, Kagome quietly offered to wash their dishes. No one argued - the moody female was unusually silent, and that meant trouble. They didn't know how to act or how to fix it. She gathered up the things she needed and left for the river nearby.

When he thought no one was paying attention, Inuyasha left the hut to follow Kagome. Miroku looked to his partner dubiously, but she only shrugged. They each tidied up, and went to bed. Shippou was already asleep, curled up on Kagome's sleeping bag with the demon cat. The elder miko, Kaede, had fallen asleep shortly after dinner was finished.

Down by the river bank, Kagome kneeled, washing the last of the earthenware. Inuyasha didn't know how to approach her, so he waited, sitting on a low, thick, branch that allowed his feet to nearly graze the grass underneath him. He watched her as she piled the last dish on top of the stack and placed them all in a large kettle. Lifting herself to her full height to stretch her tense and throbbing back muscles, Kagome looked towards the village, and was shocked to fins Inuyasha sitting in the tree, watching her.

He looked casual - perhaps a little too casual - with a leg up and a hand on his knee. A delightful, crisp breeze lifted his black mane, and his eyes, the color of a stormy sky, stayed on hers. She gasped, feeling the intense gaze. For a second, her heart fluttered and she forgot all that troubled her. But then Inuyasha took his forearm from his leg, and allowed both to come to his side. As he did so, he moved in such a way that he stirred the bruises earned from his battle with the youkai.

He flinched, and everything in Kagome's world came crashing down. She remembered why she had been so upset, so terrified, and the tears began to fall. Without his youkai senses to help him, Inuyasha hadn't known she was crying until her face began to contort in her intent to keep them from falling. Then he saw the shimmer in her eyes, making them appear to be little pools of sea water.

“Kagome…” The name ghosted on his lips without his meaning to, and she came undone.

She sobbed as she ran towards him blindly - she wouldn't have been able to see if she had wanted to, because of the tears rapidly filling her eyes. When she reached him, she grabbed him so tightly he cried out in pain; most of his wounds centered on his chest and abdomen. She tried to pull back, apologizing profusely all the while, but Inuyasha chuckled despite his pain. He kept her close, trying to pull her into a hug. But it was awkward, since he was higher up than she.

He grabbed her around the chest, attempting to lift her onto the branch. But she was wounded as well, and where his hands reached around to her back, was her worst wound, a terrible and painful bruise left by the boar youkai. When he picked her up, she hissed in pain and he tried to let go - the irony that this had happened mere seconds ago but reversed was not lost on them. Kagome refused to be dropped, and he brought her up to sit on the rough bark.

When she was placed comfortably, straddling the branch with a leg on each side like he was, he scowled at her. She raised an eyebrow in contest.

“What?”

“Kagome,” he said soothingly, yet firm, “what's wrong? You haven't been yourself, and now this? What's going on?”

What was she supposed to tell him? That she had thought she was going to lose him and it terrified her so badly she was now traumatized? Or should she lie; wanting to see her family would be a good enough excuse. But looking into his thunderstorm-colored eyes, Kagome couldn't lie. She wanted to tell him the truth, and he deserved to hear it.

“I…” she began. Her eyes were downcast, not able to find the words.

He frowned and grabbed her chin, tilting it gently upwards so that the sky blue of her eyes would meet the steel grey of his. When she saw the resolve in his eyes, she gained the courage to speak.

“Inuyasha… I thought… I thought I was going to lose you - forever. I was scared…”

She paused, but didn't seem finished, so he remained silent.

“Inuyasha… I don't know what I'd do without you.”

They gazed into each other's eyes, each hoping the other would be able to feel what they wanted them to. Then Inuyasha gingerly wrapped his arms around her and brought her close. She gasped in surprise, and he smiled gently. But it quickly faded as his expression turned to one of determination. He tried to look at her back, assessing the damage.

“He got you good, eh, Kagome?” he said in such a dark voice, she was reminded of Inuyasha's brother, Sesshoumaru.

Regardless, she nodded. “Yeah. But I'll survive. I'm used to being human…” she chuckled, and he smiled, his hand still resting on her back. “But you…” Her smile turned into a look of concern as she brought a hand to his face. “Inuyasha, I couldn't see what was happening. All I saw was that thing… and then it fell…”

Another tear threatened to fall, and Inuyasha understood. “Kagome… I felt the same way.” He paused when she looked at him, shocked. “You can't imagine what I thought when I it heading straight for you, and I wasn't going to be there in time.”

Kagome smiled gently as he brought his hand up to cover hers where it lay on the side of his face. “I did okay for myself,” Kagome said, smiling proudly.

“Yeah. Not bad, kiddo,” he returned warmly before becoming serious yet again. “But I was scared, Kagome. I was scared… that I'd lost you.”

Hearing her own words come from him broke something inside Kagome. Her inhibitions snapped. But before she could do anything, Inuyasha's lips crashed into hers, sending her mind reeling. She lost all train of thought - she could barely remember to breathe. As their mouths moved, each trying to learn the rhythm of the other, Kagome felt her heart pound in her chest. Her blood roared in her ears and sang in her veins.

Inuyasha had one coherent thought before succumbing to the joy of being in the arms of the one you love: Why hadn't he done this months ago? Smiling against her full lips, Inuyasha gave in to the emotions running wild in his human blood. He wished for his powers back, so that he would be able to smell her, taste her, feel her even better than he could now. But he was slipping quickly into the foggy depths of his mind, made hazy by the rush of emotions and the new feelings he was experiencing.

Inuyasha pulled away briefly, allowing them both a reprieve. He panted, looking up into her dazed eyes, his bangs falling haphazardly into his field of vision. He appreciated her rosy hue, proof that she had been excited by their kiss. He memorized her face, attempting to lock this moment into his memory forever.

Kagome wasn't much better off. Her chest heaving, trying to bring in much-needed air, she gazed through her own hair to lock eyes with his hazy, stony eyes. He seemed the worse off, his lips parted - swollen and pink from their kissing - and his breath coming in raspy puffs from his injuries. But it was his lips she couldn't take her eyes from; she still felt flushed, but she was ready for more, breath or not.

She quickly leaned forward, pressing her lips to his. He was surprised, but he seemed pleased. With her thoughts leaving her, Kagome slid her right hand up his chest, and he burned with desire at her touch. But she didn't stop there. Her hand moved up his neck, finally coming to rest against his firm jaw. Inuyasha became fevered; he felt as if he would never get enough of her.

After a few moments, Kagome brought her left hand up, entangling it in Inuyasha's black tresses. It moved slowly to the back of his head, forcing him closer, harder… He had wanted to stop. He thought about it. But she was making it so hard to stop…

******************************************
Suddenly, the branch creaked, and Inuyasha noticed off-handedly that she had moved closer to him. Another creak, and Kagome was flush against him. He hadn't thought it possible, but Inuyasha's heart pounded even harder when he felt her breasts pressed against his chest. The urge to touch them became unbearably strong.

With a slow, trembling hand, Inuyasha squeezed his hand between them to land on her breast. She moaned a desperate, low noise, and it stirred Inuyasha's loins further. He applied pressure, tried different motions, and speeds. With her arousal, Kagome's nipple began to protrude from her shirt, and Inuyasha became fascinated with it. He rubbed, pinched, and caressed it. All the while, Kagome gasped, groaned, and whimpered.

He could take no more. With confidence, Inuyasha slipped his hand under the young woman's shirt and bra, and his touch set her ablaze. She pushed into his hand, brushing against his erection as a result. He emitted a long groan, and Kagome loved the sound so much, she pulled away from him to better position herself to move against him again. She rolled her hips forward, only the thin cotton of her panties and his hakama separating their most intimate parts.

When she deliberately ground against him - proud, confidant, rebellious - he gasped from the thrill of it. He never imagined it could feel so good… And if this felt this good, then… He looked into her eyes, darkened to a deep blue with lust, and saw so much more. Love, adoration, acceptance. Her skin was flushed a lovely shade of pink, her lips a deep mauve, bruised from their passion. He saw no hesitation, and no amount of control could hold him back from his next move.

Inuyasha took to her inviting lips once more, plucking at her nipple as he used his other hand to untie his hakama. He released the beast, and Kagome gasped when she felt its' weight against her thigh. But she didn't stop him. Instead, she reached down between them, gingerly feeling for it. She felt the velvety skin and took hold, making him groan in ecstasy.

Every step they took was better than the last, and neither was eager to come down from their lusty high. With a swift movement, Kagome pulled and pushed, pumping him once. He separated from her lips to throw his head back, leaning against the tree. He tried to growl, but it sounded silly, coming from an obviously human throat. She smiled, pumping him faster, harder. He twisted and wriggled - he had no idea what it was he needed, but he felt the overwhelming hunger for something unknown.

Kagome grinned devilishly, but his hand grasped her wrist, effectively stopping her. He looked at her, wide-eyed and panting. She looked back, curious to why he had stopped her.

“Gods, Kagome…”

She smiled again when she realized he had stopped her because he couldn't take much more. But she didn't have much time to think, because she was tasting him again, his tongue moving heatedly with hers. She was so into it, she hadn't noticed that his hand had moved down…

With a little gasp, Kagome jumped, feeling Inuyasha's fingers in such a sensitive spot. Experimenting, he tried different things, noting what he was doing when she cried out. He found that the little nub was by far the most sensitive once he felt past the fabric barrier, and when he concentrated on it, she trembled and gripped his arm as hard as she could. When he stopped to give her respite, she gasped painfully, still holding onto his arm.

“Sorry,” she said, embarrassed.

Inuyasha chuckled as she removed her nails from his flesh. “Don't worry about it,” he told her, nuzzling her neck. “It's kinda hot.”

Her eyes widened, taking in the knowledge. But she didn't have time to process it, because Inuyasha grasped her around her tiny waist and lifted her along with himself, then leapt to the ground. He helped her down, and she laid on her back, his body covering hers. He placed little passionate kisses down her body, pulling her shirt off as he went. From months of experience, he knew all too well that the skirt proved to be no obstruction, and he left it on. But when he came to her underwear, he gently coaxed them from her hips, kissing every available inch of skin he found.

Returning back to her face, he noticed she looked apprehensive. She was - like himself - a virgin, but there was far more involved for her, as far as intercourse was concerned. He had an idea and smiled wickedly, disconcerting her. But all thoughts were banished when he began to tease her once again, making her squirm and wriggle. She moaned and tossed her head, and he drank in every moment of it. Finally, he dipped a finger inside, and she whimpered from the very pleasure of it - she had finally figured out what she felt she needed.

She had been feeling so horribly empty, so incomplete; when he entered her, it came together, and she understood. She bucked against his hand, and he needed no further encouragement. Inuyasha moved his finger in and out, mimicking the motions he hoped to create with another part of his body. Preparing her, he joined the first finger with another. She groaned, moving like a snake on hot pavement. He knew she was ready when he pulled out his hand and his fingers were thick with her arousal.

He bent to her face, kissing her deeply while aligning himself with her. He hesitated at her warm opening, wary of hurting her. But she looked up at him with pleading eyes, desperate to have something to hold on to.

“Please,” she whispered.

He couldn't deny her if he wanted to.

He crumbled, and in one fluid movement, he was nestled deep within her. She cried out in pain, and Inuyasha was glad he didn't have his hanyou hearing - he would have gone deaf - but he attempted to soothe her all the same, kissing, whispering, stroking… When she had control over herself and the tears had stopped flowing, Inuyasha dared to move. He was ecstatic to feel her body move with him.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

There was so much love and concern in his voice, Kagome couldn't help but smile. “I'll be fine.”

He returned the gesture, and began to move slowly, not pulling out or pushing in very far. He was surprised when he felt Kagome raise her hips, allowing him deeper access. The tip of his cock rubbed against a wall, making him moan with pleasure, and she reciprocated by whimpering. She attempted to meet him every time he came down on her, and the pleasure it created had them panting and making little noises of satisfaction.

Kagome felt a knot in her abdomen - it was pulsing, as if it had its' own heartbeat. It beckoned and called, but Kagome didn't know what she was supposed to do or how to go about relieving the incredible tension.

Inuyasha, feeling his own sparks of lust becoming a fire, began trying new motions. He arched his back and rolled his hips, and as Kagome bucked into him, he touched a spot that ignited her passion. She gasped, her eyes snapping open. Inuyasha looked at her, concern playing across his features. But her own expression softened instantly, and for once, he felt like prey - she looked into his eyes with a predatory glare. He smiled his lop-sided smile that Kagome loved - if he had been hanyou tonight, a fang would have shown.

“Inuyasha,” she said in a husky drawl.

It boiled his blood to hear her speak his name with such desire laced throughout. His eyes rolled in the back of his head as he repeated the previous motion, and she made the most beautifully long and satisfied noise. It goaded him, and he thrust harder and faster. They moved together, each trying to bring the other towards whatever it was they knew they were working for. Inuyasha felt as if a spring within him was about to uncoil. But he knew Kagome was close too. She was crying out as if possessed, and he wanted her to finish first. He tried to think of random things, staving off his climax.

A few thrusts later, she was complete.

“Inuyasha!” she cried out.

She gripped his arm with one hand, the other raking its' nails down his back. Her muscles tightened around him, and together with the pleasure-pain of her claws, he was sent over the edge. He grunted as he shook, his climax owning him. Sweating and panting, he lowered himself onto her and held her as she trembled in his arms. They began to calm, their breathing slowing as post-coital bliss set in.

They lay in silence, Inuyasha drawing lazy swirls on her body as she twirled strands of his hair in her fingers. There was no moon, only the shine of the stars as they touched each other lovingly and whispered to each other.

“I love you, Kagome,” he told her quietly.

Kagome smiled, feeling like she had won the lotto after playing for years. “I love you, too.”

********************************************************

The next morning, Miroku was the first to find them as he came to the river to meditate. They were decent, yet disheveled. He smiled in knowledge, but let them be. He did not pass without being noticed, however. Inuyasha, again a hanyou, heard the familiar footsteps and cracked an eye. He saw his friend pass them, and thought they should get back. He lifted Kagome in his arms, her flesh on his hands stirring memories of the night before.

He shook his head, making his way back to Kaede's hut in hopes that the monk was the only one awake. He wasn't - the miko Kaede was also awake and beginning the rice for the day. But instead of the scolding he expected, the old woman smiled and bowed her head slightly. He did the same and brought Kagome to her sleeping bag. He laid her down, lying next to her and watching her sleep. He stroked her hair and whispered in her ear, and sometimes she stirred, but it wasn't until the delicious smell of cooking rice roused her. She blinked dreamily, happy to find Inuyasha next to her.

“Good morning,” she said, yawning.

He grinned in that way that exposed an elongated canine, and it made her giggle.

“Good morning, Kagome”

He swiftly leaned in for a kiss, and she blushed, knowing they weren't alone. But Shippou had gone outside to play with the village children and Miroku and Sango had tasks of their own to accomplish. Kaede was preoccupied with the rice. When she realized this, she reached for another kiss, this one more passionate than the other.

“How are you feeling?” he asked her when they separated.

“I'm a little sore and in need of a bath, but I'll be okay,” she informed him.

He nodded at first, then looked at her, grinning in a suspicious manner. Kagome looked at him curiously. Still smiling, he whispered in her ear, her eyes growing wide as she listened. If it was a threat or a promise, she didn't know:

“Good. Because tonight, I'm hanyou…”

A side note - this takes place at some point after Kikyou dies, but not too current, obviously. I know I usually make things up to date, but for the sake of keeping things interesting and having a plot, I put this story in this timeline. As you can tell, the jewel is completed, but it's at the point where demons still seek Kagome for her powers. Just thought I would clarify for anyone that didn't get it. And if this is a spoiler in any way, I am sorry…
