Chapter 36 - The Morning After

“You called that a docking?”

“Hey, I got us here, didn't I?”

“Baka.”

“Feh. Shut up, we have to find the kids.”

“Well we would have found them sooner if someone hadn't decided to become a human for the night and slow us down.”

“You just won't let that go, will you?” Inuyasha complained without looking up from the ground. “Like a dog with a fricken bone.” He muttered.

“I heard that.” Sesshoumaru scoffed. “Have you picked up their scent yet?”

“No. It stops in that office.” Inuyasha stood, waving at the open door. “Their scent just… disappears.”

“So what do you propose we do?” Sesshoumaru glared around the deserted compound.

“I dunno. What's your brilliant idea?” Inuyasha growled sarcastically.

“I suggest we trail the lizard youkai that fled the warehouse a few hours ago. He might be able to lead us to the children.” Sesshoumaru said with his usual pomp.

“Keh. Fine, let's go.”

“Rise and shine, baby!” A sing-songy voice penetrated Mujinku's sleepy haze.

“Wha?”

“It's almost noon, Jinku, we'll be landing in a second.” Warm air brushed past his cheek and Mujinku's eyes flicked open. “Come on sleepyhead,” Shitenshi chuckled behind him.

“Shi?”

“Yeah. We're coming up on some cliffs; I'll be landing in a second.” Mujinku could tell that the girl was smiling, despite her pouting tone. “I can't believe you fell asleep while I was bothering to carry you. I should have dumped you in the sea.”

“Hey, I'm not the one that got to sleep earlier.” The inu-hanyou teased back. They were skimming low over the water towards the main island, occasionally being sprayed by a salty mist as the waves broke against the rocky outcroppings below the surface.

“Ooh, I think my grip is slipping!” Shitenshi dipped and then giggled when Mujinku squeezed her hands.

“You won't drop me.” He said cockily.

“And why not?”

“Cause you like me.” Mujinku replied innocently.

Shi just tightened her grip and raced up over the cliff top on a thermal. She swerved over the trees until she found a clearing and hovered over it, back-winging gently to the ground. Sitting in the grass, pulling the boy down beside her, Shitenshi pouted again. “I still can't believe you fell asleep. You must be more tired than you're admitting.”

Mujinku sighed and dropped his staff beside them. “Meh. I'm fine, wench.”

“Why don't you take a nap, and I'll watch over you.” she teased.

“I can think of something I'd rather do.” Mujinku murmured, cupping Shi's head in his hand and drawing her forward into a kiss.
