CHAPTER FOUR

The wind was cold and carried thick heavy snow flakes through the city's streets. The sky was as grey
as it had been the entire winter and it didn't light the mood the slightest bit that Kagome would leave
her home and parents for at least six months now. Even If it would help her father, even if he would
get the chance on medicine or a place in hospital as soon as Kagome had reached her new school on
a small peninsula beyond the city of Kanazawa. It was a pretty much lonely and closed up place, at
least as far as Kagome could get out from the small information magazine that came with the papers
she had picked up at the office.

The young girl had said goodbye to her family at the subway station close to home, not willing to make
a long scene on the train station that would hurt all of them more as it already would, so she choose to
go alone. The Train came pretty much in time, full of people in black uniforms that still made her
nervous, even if she would be one of them soon. It was no secret that Kanazawawas one of the main
training areas for any unit it the defence of their country, some of the best military schools were up
there.

She had leaned her head against the glass of the window as soon as the train had started to move out
of the station, blocking out nervousness and the strong feeling of homesickness that already bloomed
inside her heart. She had almost drifted off to something like sleep as the familiar feeling of a hand on
her bottom made her wake up very abruptly. She slapped before she even had opened her eyes,
meeting the face of a familiar young man beside her.

"Miroku?!!"She growled at him and he once more looked pretty innocent, holding his bright red cheek.

"Nice to meet you again Higurashi Kagome…" He smiled sweetly at her. Instantly the woman moved
a bit away from him as answer to his words and glared warningly at him. He sighed giving in to her
defence and changed subject, not very successful with lightening her mood. "So... you were accepted
in the unit… that's great…and what a surprise to meet you here…" He grinned and she nodded
silently.

She could think of many possibilities why he had ended up beside her, most possible because
she was the only one who was tolerant enough to only slap him and not kick him off after his nice kind
of making friends. For a moment she wondered why she hadn't kicked him off, but her look fell on his
hand and she remembered that he had far to much in common with her to really be mad at him. The
train turned slower and Kagome leaned backwards with a look on her clock, she had slept more than
the half train ride before Miroku had earned his slap and woken her. It didn't seem so long for her but
she was glad to have taken the first part of it like this, perhaps the rest wouldn't be so bad now that
she wasn't alone anymore. "Now we only need to get the same room in the dormitory and I would call
it a connection made by the will of the gods…!" He announced and Kagome wasn't so sure anymore if
she should not ignore her thoughts and kick him off anyway.

They left the train and forced their way through the mass of black around them, so many people, so
many voices and no clue where to find the place where they should report to. Both didn't need many
words to come to the understanding that they had to wait till the waves of people thinned out, so they
waited on the side clutching to the bags they held. Well, Miroku was clutching to the bags, Kagome
had given him hers after deciding that he was better company as long as his hands were occupied
with something different than her behind. Finally the managed to find some orientation, mostly
because of the woman that was standing in the half empty hall now, holding up a sign with their
names.

"So you two are the new gifted ones?" She greeted them as soon as both had reached her, lowering
the sign.

"Yes…" Miorku smiled Charmingly at the woman.

"You are late…" She said sceptically.

"Yes, And we are sorry that we could not find you the moment we came here…" Kagome wanted to
excuse them being late but the woman waved it off with a smile. "But there were so many people…"

"I thought you would get lost here… the new ones always do, I did myself as I was younger... it's no
problem..." She smiled. "You must be Higurashi Kagome … and you are Nagawa Miroku... am I right?"

"Yes milady..." Miroku smiled, making a slight bow. She was what Miroku would call eye candy; dark
hair up in a tail on her head, brown eyes and curves under her black uniform that made his hands itch
to have some fun. The only slightly disturbing was the small cat that had taken place on her arms by
now, it mewed loudly at him and waved two tails. He frowned at her and the cat seemed to frown back,
so it was a youkai.

"I am Ito Sango and your Matron and supervisor…" She informed the two new students and the cat
gave a sound of greeting of her own. "I am here to bring you to the training unit and show you
anything…"

"She's youkai?" Kagome observed slightly hesitating, but Sango only nodded.

"She is; she's my partner… Kirara…" The cat gave another mew and made a jump into Kagome's
arms, settling down in the confused girl's arms. "And seemingly she likes you…" She smiled and
waved for the two to walk with her.

It was surprising that Miroku managed to hold himself in check till the bags where safely tucked away
in the back of the car, but less surprising that his control ended there. The slap he earned from Sango
was stronger than he had thought and the glare far more dangerous than that one of Kagome, but so
much more fun at the same time. He ended up on the backseat with the cat beside him but couldn't
wipe the grin of his face all the way to the school.

The road was long and lonely with nobody around as far as you could see. "It's pretty lonely out
here… isn't it?" Miroku wondered from the backseat and Sango nodded.

"Yes… the special unit lays more than 15 miles away from the village… it's a security measure..." She
informed the man on the backseat, fixing him with a death glare in the mirror. "The training areas and
facilities are spread out on over 10 square miles, we have a shuttle bus driving between the housing
area and the training and schooling parts to make that possible…" She explained further. "You will
have classes like the most other students whilst I will supervise the main part of the physical
training… we also have spiritual training…. But you will see all that as soon as we are there..." She
told them as they past two stone pylons that served as streetlights. Kagome could feel something
tingle down her spine and she wondered what it was for a moment before a bright pink light made it
evident.

"Don't worry that is the Sphere around the base…" Sango explained before Kagome could even ask.
"The Cars have spells on them to let them pass, this way we minimise the unwanted intruders..."

Kagome nodded, feeling stranger and stranger. It all was so much at once that she still doubted to be
right here, at least the look on Miroku's face made it clear that she wasn't alone with this. The houses
came into their vision quickly, almost like a small village that crawled up a green now snowy hill. Most
of them weren't so big, linked to each other by stairs that lead up and down between them. Ways laid
in shadow under big old trees and although there where less people than Kagome had expected it still
seemed awfully crowded. She doubted that even half of those which they past in the car were human,
especially the tall dark haired woman that had crossed the street shortly before they reached their
goal. She had a look in her eyes that made Kagome wish for a spot to hide and looked familiar at the
same time, what seemed to fit for the woman too, she stared a bit longer but moved on.

"Don't worry… that was only Kikyo..." Sango explained. "She's just a Miko student like you, although
she likes to play the role of the ghostly and scary…" She added and the cat on the backseat gave a
mew as addition. Kagome couldn't help but think that this woman was more than fitting in the unit, at
least as far as Kagome could tell from the office in the city and the mood in the train. She hoped the
room in which she would spend the nights in the next six months weren't as cold as this woman or the
office she had absolved her test in.

"So there we are…" Sango stopped before a house and parked the van between a couple of others.
Right in front of the only big building around. "This is the facility office and Medical station... you have
to go through the check up and do the paperwork in there… after that I will bring you to your new
home.."

She informed the two and both got out of the car. "You can leave the bags in the car..." She added as
she closed the driver's door and waved them to follow her once more.

This was one of the parts Kagome had been more afraid of than of the tests back in Tokyo. Every
student had to go through a check up once in every semester, for whatever reason. She explained it to
herself with the contact to all that demons that they most probably would have, but still; she could not
figure out what kind of use the gynaecologist would have. She had been through the blood tests and
the normal exam without complication but somehow not really liked the last doc to visit: But which half
way sane woman like this shit at all?

She sat there in the waiting room, quite alone without Miroku who had been lead off to another waiting
room, waiting for the nurse to call for her. She was back to that feeling of homesickness that started
sneaking up on her every free minute of her trip till now, she had not even left home for one day and
was already sick from it.

"Higurashi Kagome..." Her name was called out once more and she followed the nurse to a small room.
A paper dress was given to her and orders to change into it. She did as it was told and moved into the
bigger room where a desk and a stretcher where standing. She sat down on the stretcher, knowing the
procedure from the last time she had done a check up.

It was years ago but she could remember the discomfort pretty clearly; she shifted uncomfortably and
hoped it wouldn't be as bad as the last time she had done this. Her worries where not of much use to
her, the doctor who entered had as much charm and tactfulness as an iceberg and hands at least as
cold as that. After she had bitten her lip to not yelp out at his first not really gentle touch, it got
downhill, literally. Her breast exam was comfortable opposite to his probing and pinching where she
really had no need to have him touching her, not to mention that she somehow had the feeling he
occupied himself a bit too long with her vagina after he had ended the exam.

"You are okay so far…" He explained dryly. "When was the last time that you had sexual contact…"
He asked stripping his gloves of to throw them away and return to the file that laid on a standby table.

"Uhm… more than a ... year ago…" She whispered blushing.

"Can you say that again? With a bit more accuracy this time please…" He looked up and she blushed
even more, repeating it.

"16 Months… I think…" She said this time and he nodded.

"Have you ever suffered of any hormonal unbalance, or used hormonal ways of pregnancy prevention
that aren't written in your history?" He asked and looked at her, she was shaking her head and he took
a look into her report again. "Your last period was 8 days ago, that's good…" He informed her and got
up, returning with a small tablet in his hands that got laid on the standby table.

"What's that?" Kagome managed to utter as she saw him with a syringe which had a god damn big
needle.

"Your pregnancy prevention it also will regulate your hormonal circle to prevent you from ovulating…"
He informed her and moved to disinfect a place on her arm. "The demons around would go berserk
every time a female gets fertile If we wouldn't take that step…" She still frowned at him, but this time
because of the demons. She hadn't thought she really would have so close contact to get really into
this kind of danger, but the real worry was what had happened to make them take this precaution at
all. She shivered at the thought and the doctor raised his injection. "Don't worry, there aren't many
things that can go wrong... it's pretty save…" He assured her and injected her.

Well, it wasn't directly injection but a small bluish piece of plastic that got pushed under her skin and
bandaged up afterwards. He told her that she should write down her circle now, and if anything
happened return for an exam, she nodded and hurried to get clothed. By the time she had gotten her
papers and stepped outside it already grew dark over the hills and she wanted nothing more than go
to bed. She looked around to find Sango somewhere on the car park and found her, just the moment
she slapped Miroku once more. She couldn't help but smile brightly at this, walking over to them.

"A there you are…" Sango greeted her, glancing back at Miroku with an angry growl. "So... I will bring
you home now that we are through with anything… you can meet your housemates there…"

They all got back into the van and Sango drove them to their new house, it laid a bit further down the
hill, past a small shop and several bus stops. Sango explained to them that they got some sort of
pocket money to spend in their free time, which was to spend on base if not told otherwise; there were
a library and possibilities to do sports around to be occupied. She also explained that they would get a
card for the bus once they where in their new home which also would open the doors in some facilities
and identified them as students in the first semester.

The house wasn't very big but laid in a beautiful corner of the base, bamboo grew all around it
covering the space around in shadow and the whistle of the wind in the snowy leaves. It didn't look as
cold as the most other houses owned by the unit and the laughing of a child around made it even
more tolerable, now perhaps it wasn't that cold here.
