CHAPTER SEVEN

The shock stayed in Kagome's bones even after Kikyo had left the scene, making her grab the bow as
hard as she could. She could not believe that she had blasted the target to hell, literally. Seemingly the
others around had their problems to believe all this too, because nobody dared to come closer once
more, even after Kikyo was long time gone. She looked around and found anybody trying to look
away, expect for her housemates from across the field who looked quite shocked -or cheerful in
Shippou's case.

Kaede could see Inuyasha walk of out of the corner of her eye, exiting the training area with slight
hesitation. He looked back once more at the woman down on the field before he vanished from
Kaede's sight down between the buildings. As the distant sound of an insect brought her back to the
business below, the large insect lowered from the skies and circled the old Miko for a moment.

"Do you honestly think that's a good idea?" She asked the insect critically and it came close once
more, flying another circle. "Fine… If that's his order…" She sighed and nodded, feed with new orders
for the young girl down there as the insect rose again and vanished again, back to those dark
observers controlling the training area and the whole unit from afar.

"It's enough anybody…" Kaede announced, stepping down the stairs from her spot on the side. "Back
to your training…" The petite woman made anybody return to their job, more or less successful and
took the confused young girl carefully by the arm. "Come on Kagome... let us walk for a moment…"

Kagome just nodded and followed the older Miko without complains, up the stairs and along the path
that lead back to the teacher's locker room where a couple of wooden benches were standing. The
place laid in the shadow of a couple of high trees and was luckily kept free of the wet surroundings;
nothing seemed to be really dry since the snow had started melting a couple of days ago. No wonder
with the sun that was shining quite hot for the time of the year.

"Sit down girl..." Kaede soothed the younger woman and took her place beside her. "I know you must
be quite shocked… this was an outburst I seldom saw on an untrained Miko…"

"I am sorry; I can't explain it... really... I never really did anything like this before..." Kagome shrugged
and looked up to the other woman.

"Don't worry child, it isn't bad what happened, you still controlled yourself pretty good… My sister
wasn't that controlled in your age…" She informed the girl, laying a hand on her back to ease the
tenseness. "That might be why she doesn't like you... It also could be that you aren't as frightened of
her as the other students are…"

"Who's your sister..? Wait? Kikyo is your sister? How?" Kagome was confused now, there had to be
good 50 years between the two, how could those two be sisters at all? Mother and daughter perhaps,
but sisters?

"That's a long story…" Kaede lowered her head, looking down to the ground, the bitterns came back
just for a heartbeat before she swallowed it once more. "Let me just say… she was very powerful as
she was younger and lacked in self control… the bitter result was the loss of my eye and her death..."
Kaede sighed and faked a smile for the girl that stared at the one eyed lady. "But no worry, you have
potential… we will schedule more Meditation and train spells for control… I got also news of the
commanding supervisor that they want to make you to my personal student."

Kagome just nodded, she had not fully understood the whole thing with Kikyo and Kaede yet. How
could Kikyo be dead and still walking around. On the other side this would explain why there was this
strange feeling around the older Miko. Kagome was shaking her head, there was nothing like a
walking dead, even in this complicated world.

"Don't worry child... anything will be fine…" Kaede smiled at Kagome and she just nodded. Sango
appeared moments later worried slightly but Kaede promised her that anything was fine with the girl; it
didn't really sooth Sango so she suggested bringing Kagome home and making her relax before the
training ended. Kagome did not complain and was lead off by the older woman to change back in the
black uniform. The insect swirling in the wind above the buildings going unnoticed by them.

There she sat and waited on the benches in the Locker rooms, waiting for Sango to finish changing
over in the teacher's locker rooms. Kirara had stayed for company, now sitting in the young Miko's lap,
rubbing her small head against the belly of the worried girl to help her relax till the teacher would
return. But it did not really work, Kagome only kept thinking about Kikyo and Kaede. Coming to no real
solution for anything told by the old Miko only minutes ago.

"Are you ready?" Her head snapped up from the call of her teacher, bringing her out of her thoughts.
Kagome nodded quickly and nodded seeing her chance in asking the woman for advice.

"Sango… can I ask you something?" Sango just nodded and sat down beside the younger woman.
"Ehm… Supervisor Kaede said that Kikyo was her sister… but... how?"

"Well, that is a complicated story… and I don't know anything... but I can try..." Sango leaned back
against the wall, titling her head in search for the right words. "Kaede-baba is one of the oldest Miko's
she still was trained in the old style… you know in a Shrine and such…" She explained and glanced to
Kagome who nodded. "Kikyo was her older sister and very talented and strong, so strong that the she
drew the attention of the military on herself, she must have been one of the first members of the unit
ever… I don't know anything but Kikyo somehow lost control on her powers in some way, Kaede lost
her eye in this night…" She shrugged. "I don't really know all details…"

"She told me that too… but also that Kikyo died... how can she be dead and still a student here?"
Kagome asked, simply not getting how all this could be.

"I can't answer you that… really not… but a fact is that she came back from a top secret project a
couple of years ago…" Sango explained and got up. "You should not be afraid of her, she can't do
anything to you… now let us go..."

Yeah, nothing but giving her looks that made shivers run down her spine and the North Pole a warm
and homely place. She shivered once more, only from the memory of the look that the woman had
given her shortly before she vanished again. And to her surprise, she recalled that Inuyasha
seemingly got the same looks of hate than she had done.

"Do you know If Inuyasha has something to do with it?" Kagome asked as she stood up.

"Inuyasha? You mean the Hanyou? uhm… I only know that he was Kikyo's trainings partner a while
back… but they got split up because it didn't work… you can ask him yourself on Monday..." Sango
said and picked her cat up into her arms.

"On Monday? Why that? I don't have classes with him..." Kagome frowned at her supervisor
questioning.

"Well, Kaede made you her personal student… Inuyasha is her other one… you will practically train
with him on a daily basis now…" Sango said and exited the locker rooms with the quite shocked
younger girl.

Unknown to both that a pair of dark hateful eyes watched them exit the rooms, glowing with a deep
wish for revenge. Kikyo stepped out of her dark hiding spot, long serpent like creatures following her
out of the darkness. They hissed and whispered to the woman who was brewing with anger, flying
through the room like ghosts not caring for anything solid around. How could this child dare to
challenge Kikyo, how could she challenge a Miko who even won against death with her power. (1)
Nobody ever had dared such a thing without punishment and this girl wouldn't go without it either,
Kikyo would take care of this personally.

The Miko stepped into fully into the light, barely touching the tile ground; she would give this wannabe
Miko a small piece of what it was like to feel the pain of others, to feel how it was to be really
uncontrolled. A small smile crossed her features in an extremely scary way, but it didn't hold long,
something crashed her mood very successfully.

"Don't you think this would be against the rules…?" A voice chirped behind her, a slight chuckle
clinging to it.

"Rules are bendable…" She answered coldly, slowly turning to the shadow that used the same place
for hiding than she had before. "You are the best example for it…"

"Words spoken by the right one…" The shadow chuckled to himself diminishing back into the
darkness. "Do as you like… but keep in mind that I am the Leader here…" His voice turned cold. "And
I don't like disobedience…"

Kikyo rolled her eyes as the dark aura vanished completely from the room, returning to her hate for
this insolent girl and the plan that had formed in her mind. The scary smile found its way back on her
face as she grabbed into the hem of her Miko dress to bring forth a small white orb that started
glowing.

"Go and bring this insolent bitch a good taste of what she's getting herself into with challenging me…"
She commanded and the ball grew to one of those white serpents which surrounded her, taking off
into through the ceiling.

"This will teach you manners... woman"

(1) Yes, Kikyo is dead and yet she isn't. And as you may have noticed, she also has her soul collectors which fetch her the souls
of the dying to have a snack.
