"MOM!" a very frantic Kikyo screeched. "Throw me my keys! Hitomi's fever has spiked so I'm taking her to the hospital."
"Just be careful, hon!" Kikyo's mother said, while tossing her the keys.
"I will!" Kikyo caught the keys. She ran to Hitomi, picked her up, and raced to her car. Kikyo buckled Hitomi into her car seat as quickly as possible. She jumped into the car and barreled down the road, thankful that she was on a long, straight stretch of road with no stops.
Upon reaching the business district, she got pissed. She had to weave in and out of cars and sped up to make a left turn at a light that had just turned yellow. She started to press on the brakes. To her horror, they wouldn't work. She screamed as she pumped the breaks, trying to get them to work. The car, no stopping, spun out of control and slammed into a light pole.

Five Hours Later
Kagome flopped onto her bed and organized her notes to prepare for Miroku to come over. She had just gotten herself comfortable when the doorbell rang.
`Dammit!' She silently cursed. "SOUTA! Get the door and send him up!" Kagome yelled to her brother.
"You're too lazy KAGOME!" was the response.
Kagome flipped off her brother… even though it was aimed at the door. She was just satisfied it was in his direction. A few minutes later her bedroom door opened and her bed shifted from a new body of weight being put on it. Kagome heard a sniffle.
A sniffle.
"Miroku?" Kagome asked. She turned to face him. But it wasn't Miroku. It was…
"Inuyasha?!" Kagome stared in shock. What on earth are you doing here?!"
"Kagome." Kagome shuddered at the cold, sad tone of his voice. "Kagome… Kikyo and Hitomi are dead.
Dead. Gone. Deceased. No more.
"What do you mean dead?" She felt like an idiot. `There is only one dead, stupid.'
Either Inuyasha hadn't registered the question or didn't care. "I was called about an hour ago. Kikyo's mom told me that Hitomi got sick all of a sudden and Kikyo rushed her to the hospital. Kikyo crashed into a light pole. They were killed instantly. Cops reported that the brake cable was cut and they're searching for some guy named Naraku who is their main suspect."
Kagome crinkled her nose. "Who's Naraku and why would the cops be investigating him?"
Inuyasha fell onto Kagome and she wrapped her arms around him. "I don't know, Kagome. I asked Kikyo's mom and she said she had to go and hung up."
Both their heads snapped up when they heard someone's voice being cleared.
"Miroku!" Kagome asked, rather than stated.
Inuyasha just didn't want to deal with anyone. He needed Kagome. She always made him feel better when they were younger, and she still did. He pulled the said girl into a tight embrace.
Upon feeling the pull of Inuyasha's arms, Kagome realized how things must have looked. She was sitting up with her back to the wall and Inuyasha's head was on her chest. Their arms were wrapped around each other.
Miroku spoke, "Kagome, what the hell is-"
"SHH!" Kagome scolded him. "Inuyasha? Come on, let me go talk to Miroku. I'll be right back, okay?" Inuyasha whimpered and reluctantly let her up. Kagome walked out of her room and dragged a shocked Miroku with her.
Once they were downstairs, Miroku spun Kagome around to face him and asked, "What the hell's going on, Kagome?!" She winced. He only used her full name if he was angry or very worried. She knew he wasn't worried.
"He… He came over about a half an hour ago." Kagome stuttered.
To say Miroku was angry was a gross understatement. "What about our project?!" He roared.
"It will just have to wait Miroku!" Kagome didn't care that he didn't know the circumstances. He should not be yelling at her for any reason. She figured he was just jealous or something.
"Wait. What?! Why?! All because you want to spend our time with that stupid mutt!?" Oh yeah, he was pissed. And jealous.
Kagome was equally infuriated. "That `stupid mutt's' girlfriend and daughter DIED today, Miroku!"
Miroku felt like a jackass now. "Oh…" was his completely intelligent answer. He was dumbfounded. "When?" was the only thing he could think to say.
"I'm not sure. I only know it was in the last few hours." Miroku could only nod. Kagome pulled him out of his stupor.
"Come on, I want to go check on him." They walked back to the room to find the hanyou asleep. His face was buried deep into Kagome's pillow. Miroku was jealous. He was always berated for going on Kagome's bed.
He watched on as Kagome walked over to Inuyasha and tucked him under the covers. He shifted when he felt the touch, he turned over and whimpered.
"Shh… It's alright, go back to sleep." Kagome cooed. Inuyasha nodded and slipped back into slumber. Kagome sadly smiled and kissed his forehead.
"Hey Kag, let's just work on our project and leave him be." Miroku suggested.
"That's a perfect idea." Kagome said. "He's been through enough today. We should let him stay in the painless place he's in now."
`I just hope it isn't too painful when he wakes up.'

"Inuyasha! Inuyasha! Come look! Hitomi's taking her first steps!" Kikyo yelled to her boyfriend.
Inuyasha came running into the room and crouched about three steps away from Kikyo. "Atta girl, Hitomi! Walk to daddy! You can do it, girl!"
Hitomi giggled and clumsily made her way to him. Inuyasha hugged his baby girl and turned her around to walk back to her mother.
"Come to me Hitomi." And eerily calm, masculine voice said. "Da-da!" Hitomi gurgled.
"Dada?" Inuyasha questioned. He looked up to see a man who had a hold of Kikyo and was reaching for Hitomi. The man had long, wavy black hair and his eyes… Inuyasha gasped when he saw that mystery color Hitomi's eyes were tinted with… crimson. The man laughed evilly.
"Inuyasha, you didn't actually think Hitomi was yours, did you? Oh, of course you did. You're that gullible. Well, now they're back where they belong. With me!" At his last comment, he snapped Kikyo's neck in his right hand and Hitomi's in his left.
"HITOMI! KIKYO!" Inuyasha cried, running toward them, but they all vanished.
