Chapter Three
One change of clothes (for two people), three large pizza's, and three new hand prints on Miroku's face (courtesy of Sango) later, everyone moved around Kagome's apartment cleaning as much as possible and putting things away. Inuyasha kept Miroku away from Sango as much as he could while they moved the heavier boxes to their marked rooms but that seemed to be no small task as the man was determined to get a feel of her no matter what the cost. Yes, our Miroku was truly smitten.Kagome found the run away faucet in a new hole in the wall and replaced it as best she could even though the water wouldn't be used until she could either hire someone to fix it or figure out how to fix it herself. 'Yeah right.' She sighed and sat down in one of the folding chairs Inuyasha had brought over. While they weren't exactly the oversized plush chairs Kagome had fallen in love with at the furniture store, they were better than sitting on the floor in all of the dust.
Sango yawned and plopped down next to her. They had been working for hours and she was ready to die. "Are you staying here tonight?" She had noticed Kagome had blown up an air mattress in the bedroom so the answer was rather obvious but she could hope couldn't she?
Kagome seemed to catch her train of thought and smiled. "Yeah, I should be fine here tonight."
Sango nodded grimly casting one more glance around the apartment. "Well then I should probably get going..."

Miroku and Inuyasha were in the bedroom closet attempting to put the door back to some semblance of what it used to be when Inuyasha's nose picked up the familiar scent of wolf on Kagome's skin only stronger. Whoever the scent belonged to was coming. He wrinkled his nose when the smell of alcohol hit him as well. Either the wolf was completely wasted (which was hard to do with a hanyou's metabolism let alone a full blooded demon) or he had someone dump a ton of alcohol all over him. He was betting on the first choice. He growled and moved away from the door leaving Miroku holding it all together.
"What the hell?" Miroku muttered in surprise though the surprise over Inuyasha leaving him was short lived when he heard Sango.
"What the hell are you doing here like this?" Tension rang throughout Sango's body. She was ready to hit him and at the moment if she would have, Kouga would have been down. There was a crash from the bedroom as Miroku let go of the door to see what Sango was yelling about. Inuyasha beat him to the living room and the sight (and scent) made him growl deeply. He glanced back at Kagome who sat in her chair seemingly in shock.
"K-Kouga?" She began, standing up and stepping closer to the wolf.
Inuyasha moved forward to catch her before she could get to him and the movement caught Kouga's attention and he stared at Inuyasha in shock. "What the fuck areyou doin' here muttface?" he slurred, squinting in hopes of keeping the hanyou in focus. When had the world started moving around so roughly?
Inuyasha regarded the wolf with a glare of his own. "Keh. I should ask you the same thing. You smell terrible."
"You should talk about scent, mutt." Kouga stumbled forward into Kagome who nearly fell under his weight suddenly landing on her.
Sango was looking on in confusion. 'How does Kagome's neighbor know Kouga?'
She was just about to tell the wolf demon off when Miroku pushed her to the side, all groping forgotten. "I wouldn't right now..." he muttered. "Inuyasha and Kouga are old enemies, let him take care of it."
Sango was about to argue but Kouga beat her to it. "Take care of what? This isn't his house. It's my woman's. He has no right to do a damned thing."
Inuyasha bared his fangs. Had his hat not been hiding his ears everyone would see the normally fluffy triangles of cuteness pressed flatly -or as flat as they could get- against his skull in anger. "FUCK YOU KOUGA!" he snarled fully ready to use his claws on the wolf's throat. Or he was until Kagome jumped in front of her, the look of utter fear in her eyes.
"STOP IT!" She screamed, nearly in tears. She wasn't sure between the two who she should have been more worried about. Well considering Kouga is drunk he would be less likely to defend himself properly... the logic in her mind reminded her. "Just stop...." Her voice lost the edge to it. Now she just sounded defeated.
Inuyasha's ears drooped under the hat. He hadn't meant to make her upset like this. "Keh." He muttered stepping away from the two.
Miroku stared in shock. Did she just get Inuyasha to back down?!
Sango had the same reaction though she didn't know Inuyasha well enough to know he was the most stubborn person -well hanyou- ever. She just wanted to see Kouga get laid out on his ass like he deserved. Fine I'll do it myself! And she would have kicked the shit out of him but Miroku stopped her by grabbing her arm. "Let go of me, Miroku. He's asking for it."
He kept his hand in place. "Do you really think it wise to upset Kagome further?" he motioned to Kagome who looked like she was trying very hard to not break out in tears. She REALLY didn't need this right now.
The tension flowed from Sango's body with a rather large sigh. "Fine." She muttered allowing the man holding onto her arm to pull her back a couple of steps.
"I think it's time we took our leave, Inuyasha." Miroku spoke up.
Inuyasha's attention had been dedicated solely on Kagome and the wolf leaning on her. He was pretty sure he could take Kouga out without Kagome getting hurt what-so-ever but Miroku's voice broke him out of his planning. 'Leave? Fuck no,' But his nose caught the scent of Kagome's tears. 'Fine....' "Keh." He allowed Miroku to push him towards the door.
At the last minute, Miroku turned away from his life long friend and to the woman he was sure was the future mother of his children. He took her hands in his and knelt down. "Sango, my love," He kissed her hands, "have no fear, for I shall return!"
Sango's face darkened into a light blush before she aimed to kick the man in front of her down but Miroku was too fast for her. Before she knew what was going on he was standing with her foot in his hands.
"Decided to take lessons from me after all, love?" Sango glared which made him only want to continue. "Might I say you have beautiful legs..."
"Ugh! Let go!" Sango pulled away from him so fast she nearly fell over.
Miroku shrugged. "Until next time." He blew a kiss and walked out of the door grinning. Sango on the other hand was ready to kill.
Kouga chose that time to open his mouth. "Well it's good to see them gone. Kagome, I don't want you seeing those two ever again."
Kagome just nodded. 'It's probably best not to argue, he's just drunk...' But Sango was livid. "What?! You can't control who she can see and who she can't! You're a jackass! You should be shot! I have the right mind to kick your ass right now!" Her hands turned into fists. There was no one to stop her from laying Kouga's stupid ass on the ground and dammit, she was going to do it!
Kouga also was ready to fight but the world chose that moment to suddenly shake violently and he was on the ground without Sango's help. He sat on his knees glaring up at the enraged woman above him. "C'mon, bitch, ain't you got it in you?"
"Please don't..." Kagome finally jumped in, kneeling next to her fallen boyfriend.
The sound of her voice seemed to suck the fight right out of Sango. "I'm not going to fight with you now, Kouga. You look too pitiful and I would hate myself later for allowing myself to kick the shit out of you when you couldn't fight back." she reached over to the folding chair she had previously vacated and grabbed her jacket. "Not that you're much of a fighter sober..." She made her way to the door.
"Wait!" Kagome called out as her hand was on the handle. She left Kouga on his knees on the dusty floor to go to her friend's side. "I'm sorry, Sango..."
Sango nodded silently and opened the door. She stepped out, pulling Kagome with her and shut the door. "I really think you should think about him. I don't like him and he is a controlling bastard." Kagome looked like she was going to argue but she stopped her with a sigh. "I know I have not right to tell you who you should see and who you shouldn't and asking you not to see him doesn't make me any better than him. Just please promise me that when you go back in there and tells you you're not allowed to see me you won't agree."
Kagome nodded with determination in her eyes. She wasn't about to let anyone push her around and demand things such as that from her. Even if it was Kouga. "He could never order me to not see you." She hugged Sango closely. "You're my best friend and I wouldn't chose him over you."
Sango's arms encircled Kagome. It was good to see Kagome wasn't completely lost to that idiot. "Good. I still have to go... If I don't I'll kill him and won't get any sleep before work tomorrow because I'll be too busy trying to figure out how to hide the body." This brought a laugh from Kagome.
"Okay." She nodded lightly. "I'll be by tomorrow to get the rest of my stuff but I'll need you or Rin to drive me and the rest of it here."
"I'll be there." She hugged Kagome once more before pulling away and walking down the hallway. "I'll see you later." she called over her shoulder.

Kagome opened the door to find Kouga had managed to crawl into one of the chairs. He was not looking good at all.
"Kouga?" She asked gently, causing his gaze to meet hers waveringly.
"'Gome" he slurred before kneeling over and emptying his stomach's contents onto the floor.
She sighed. Tonight was going to be... Amusing. "Come on Kouga, let's get you cleaned up."
She kneeled down to allow Kouga to wrap his arm around her shoulders and lean against her as she took him to the bathroom. As soon as they made it to the bathroom, he practically jumped on top of the toilet, spilling more fluids and whatever else he consumed throughout the night. He even managed to not miss the toilet for a few seconds!
While Kouga gave his offerings to the Brazilian God Kagome concentrated on cleaning up what remained of his mess on her living room floor. It took a while as she tried to focus on anything but the fact she was cleaning up someone's puke. Maybe she could convince herself it was pudding. 'Wait... Pudding?! she shook her head. Where did that come from? she didn't have time to dwell on it thanks to Kouga's moan bringing her back into the present.
Since everything was cleaned up as much as possible in the living room it was time to get Kouga to bed. She turned the corner to see the wolf slumped over the toilet mumbling. "Kouga..." She murmured bring his attention to her. "Let's get you to bed, you look beat." He nodded and let Kagome help him to his feet.
Even though the bedroom was only across a tiny hallway it seemed to take forever to get Kouga into the room considering he out weighed Kagome by a good amount and didn't seem exceptionally into the idea of walking on his own. "Kagome, you smell pretty." he drawled as she leaned down, taking him with her into the bed.
"Thanks, Kouga." she smiled and untangled herself from his drunk limbs enough to escape the confines of the mattress.
"Kagome..." He protested, trying to wrap his arms around her but she wiggled free. "Don't you wanna lay down here with me?"
"I'm sorry, I have to go clean. You just relax and when I'm done I'll come back okay?" She hated to lie but what else could she do?
Kouga didn't reply due to the fact he was already passed out.
Kagome smiled and kissed his forehead. He was going to be in pain tomorrow.
'Now to get on with the cleaning.

Two hours later and every bit of Kouga's messes were cleaned up and Kagome sideways across three of Inuyasha's folding chairs looking out of the cracked windows. It had started raining some time ago and all of Tokyo was lit beneath her. She wasn't in the tallest building in the city by far but her window was still high enough to get a wonderful view of the city at night. That was part of the reason she picked this apartment above all others. That and there was just some kind of charm to it. She couldn't quite put her finger on it but there was something in this apartment that called out to her.
Lightning flashed overhead followed by a clap of thunder and Kagome drew her knees close to her chest and rested her chin on them deep in thought. What was she doing here? Striking out on your own to be with the man you love... A small voice in the back of her mind reminded her. Oh. She thought back to the man -or as far as she knew he was a man- in her bed and something seemed to drop in her chest. Do I really love him or is it just lust? She listed all the signs of love every woman seemed to know. Did the thought of him bring butterflies? It used to... Back in the beginning... Did he consume her every thought? Did she feel the urge to tell him she loved him whenever she could? Did she actually care when he wasn't near her? No, no and no... She shivered slightly and not because of the draft coming from the window. Have I been blinded this whole time? Was it just the spark of a new relationship? The answer was yes but she refused to let it come to that. How could I have lead him on like this? It'll break his heart... She shook her head. No, I won't think about this now. It's just because it's late and Sango's words are starting to get to me. She stood and stretched. It was time to get some sleep before she thought too much more.
A quick search of her tiny home revealed there were no more blankets available. She stepped as quietly as she could into her room only to find Kouga wrapped completely in the blanket on the bed with the only two pillows she brought under him. She wasn't about to risk waking him. A small sigh escaped her. It seemed her choices were either not sleep, sleep and freeze, or magically come up with a blanket.

Fifteen minutes after Kagome's problem was brought into light there was a knock on Inuyasha's door. Who the fuck is that? Inuyasha yawned and sniffed. Miroku had long since vacated the apartment in hopes of catching Kagome's friend. What was her name again? Better queston, why should he care? The scent of lavender hit him full force signaling just who was on the otherside of that door. Probabally had issues with that wolf and needs someone to throw him out. His mind reasoned and she smirked at the thought. He grabbed a bandanna hanging next to the door, put it on, and opened the door in one fluid motion revealing exactly who he thought it was. The only diffrence was her scent was now marred even more deeply with Kouga's scent as well as the alcohol he drank. I probabally shouldn't tell her she stinks... She just stood there staring at him with a rather surprised look on her face.
"Yes?" Inuyasha growled. He didn't really mean to sound so pissed off but she had woken him up.
"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to wake you." Her even if her voice hid the regret she was feeling he was sure her eyes would have given it away.
He relaxed a little, regretting filling his own stomach. "Don't worry about it. What's wrong?"
"I was wondering if I could borrow a blanket and maybe a pillow." She stared as fearlessly as she could into his golden eyes. He didn't say anything so she continued. "I didn't know Kouga was going to come so I didn't bring extra..." her voice trailed off.
He tried to hide his smirk but he failed miserably. "You don't sleep with him?" Of course she didn't. His sense of smell told him as soon as he met her she hadn't been touched like that but he got the feeling he would love to watch her blush.
He was right. "I don't see how that's any of your buisness." She faught the blush that spread accross her cheeks only to lose. That made her angry. After all, what right did he have asking her such personal questions? He just met her today!
He smiled and that just served to fuel her anger. "Calm down, it was just a question." He didn't wait for her reply, instead he turned away and walked further into his apartment to fetch the items she asked for.
Kagome followed, ready to give him a peice of her mind. "Don't tell me to calm down! Do you always ask such personal questions to girls you just meet?"
He chose not to answer. Instead he pushed the items into her hands, spun her body around, and pushed her to the door.
Both of them felt it at the same time. As soon as his hand touched her lower back it was like their stomach's dropped to the ground. They froze. Slowly, she turned around, eyes matching the surprise in his.
He had two options. One: Take the surprise out of her eyes but explaining the metophysics of youkai and all that entailed. Or Two: Push her out of the door and slam it in her face. He chose two.
Before she knew it Kagome was outside of Inuyasha's apartment staring at the door as it closed with a slam. What just happened? It was the second time that night he made her feel breathless.
Inuyasha stood leaning against the door and staring at the hand that had touched her. Well... This is new...
