Since he left his apartment, he has been trudging on without purpose. That is not a metaphor for his life unless you want it to be. His limbs are tired; it's been nearly a week since sleep claimed him.
He smells the blood a mile away. This is on no account hyperbole. He does not rush; he has never rushed. He continues in the direction of the bleeding youkai at the same unhurried pace he has maintained all night.
One last corner, and then he is upon them; one youkai corpse and one human girl.
"The hanyou's miko." An oxymoron.
