ChapterSixteen Twin Moons   Inuyasha rests his arms on my shoulders and looks over my head. I lean back contentedly against him as I sit here and watch my children in the grass.   “Daddy! Daddy, watch me!”   Inu-maru jumps up and down in front of me, trying to make me see him more than I already am. When he’s sure that I’m watching, he runs away, then closes his eyes and makes a face as though he needs to relieve himself. His tail lashes behind him, his ears flicked out sideways. Patient and amused, I wait.   After a moment, he melts away quickly, and in the space of time it would have taken, he is a puppy, pure white with his golden eyes and a marking on his forehead, and a very long tail. With a yip, he runs toward me again. I bend out of Inuyasha’s arms to scoop him up.   “I’ll be damned,” my mate says from behind me, and scratches his son’s head. Inu makes a whining sound and, sitting in my hand, contorts to scratch his neck with his back leg.   “Can I hold him, father?”   I smile slightly down to my other son, pulling Inu from Inuyasha’s reach, and hold him down to Tennin. He takes him carefully, with his solemn eyes, his wavy white hair falling over his shoulders for his brother to snuggle into.   They will both be one hundred next month. They have aged not only uncommonly but almost impossibly slowly; they seem no more than two or two and a half, in human age. Inuyasha has aged beyond most of his awkward teen years and seems responsible and mature… And myself… I have not changed at all. There is a strange sensation of standing still while a river of time washes around me whenever I think of this, but I do not do so often.   Tennin gives one of his extremely rare smiles as his brother licks his nose, and I must smile, watching them, and raise my hand to hold Inuyasha’s on my shoulder.   “Can you change, Tennin?” Inuyasha asked from above and behind me.   My younger son looks up. “No, Uncle Inuyasha,” he says. “Would you like to see what I can do?”   “Of course we would, Tennin,” I tell him. I imagine he probably found his power long ago, but did not think to tell us…   He conscientiously sets his brother on the ground, where he returns to his more human form and scratches his neck again, wearing only red fire-rat pants such a his father favors. Tennin puts a hand on the fur – my fur – on his shoulder for a moment, and I compare it to his height. It seems it is still growing in accordance with him, remaining long enough to brush the ground both in front of and behind him. Good. It will be a good weapon for him some day…   After a moment, he closes his eyes and a strong wind comes from in front of us, blowing everyone’s hair backward. A glance upward shows stormclouds gathering above us, boiling out of thin air. A crash of thunder sounds, and a lightning bolt rips through the air. Despite the trees around, it is coming straight for me. I do not move.   Before it can hit me, a shimmering field materializes between it and us, absorbing the electricity.   Tennin opens his eyes as the clouds dissipate, and looks at me. Inuyasha, I see with a glance, has ducked behind me in an instinctive reaction to the lightning, and Inu I cowering with him; I only smile at Tennin and extend my arm to him. He smiles back and climbs into my lap, taking his accustomed seat, breathing deeply; I imagine he likes the smell of me.   “You are very powerful, Tennin.”   He looks up at me solemnly. “I have no desire for power.” Far from being Naraku’s son, he is mild-mannered and kind… I know not where he learned such attributes, but I am glad for him.   Inuyasha makes a choking sound a though that is a foreign concept, but Inu-maru clambers onto my lap as well and wraps his arms around his brother.   “That’s okay, I’ll take care of you, forever and for always.” Even his tail is wrapped protectively around him, and Tennin snuggles into him.   I look up to meet Inuyasha’s eyes. He smiles and kisses my forehead above the moon, hands on my shoulders again, looking at our family proudly.       A/N:   The End!   Sorry it took me so long. Sorry they don’t end up together. Sorry the whole thing was so pathetically OOC. Thank you for sticking with it until the end, though, and getting past all the pathetically OOCness. ^_^   There is a sequel, already written, I just have to type it. If you care, tell me. ^_^ The kids are about human 12ish in there…
