InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ In My Wildest Dreams ❯ Reality Bites ( Chapter 2 )
Author's Note: Okay, this took longer than I had hoped it would. I have the ideas, but this chapter is still just setup, anyway. More will happen next chapter, I promise!
Chapter 2: Reality Bites
----------
"Kouga-kun?"
"Hmm?"
Even with his eyes closed, the sun was painful. His body ached all over. This was going to take a few days to recover from.
"You're awake!"
"Kagome?"
Kouga willed his eyes open, to find his Kagome leaning over him in concern. She brushed his bangs from his face and wiped his brow with a cold, wet cloth.
"How do you feel, Kouga-kun? You've been unconscious for an hour!"
"Much better now that you're here, Kagome."
"Gag me," mumbled Shippo as he rifled through the yellow bag looking for a treat. Preferably some pocky, but he wasn't too picky.
"Keh, we ought to be out looking for Naraku. Let's just pry the shards from the mangy wolf's legs and get out of here."
"Inuyasha! Can't you see that Kouga's been badly injured?!"
"Which makes it the perfect time to take the freaking shards!"
"Osuwari!"
She was beautiful, even when she was angry. What he would give to really have her as his woman. If only that dream had been real…
Naraku gone, and Kagome his.
Ah, to dream.
That mutt Inuyasha didn't know what he had. He teased her and insulted her. He argued with her, and he ignored her. He abandoned her to be with that freaky bitch Kikyou. She deserved better, and he would give it to her. But, it just wasn't going to be as simple as it was in the dream.
He couldn't just make a wish, and have her fall madly in love with him. That was all well and good in a dream, but… he wasn't sure he'd really want it that way, anyway. It wasn't fair to her, and he'd rather have her come to love him on her own.
Still, he honestly couldn't see what she saw in the mutt. Whatever it was, it worked.
He'd just have to try harder, is all. He would have to make it perfectly clear who the better man was.
I'll be the mature one. He'll try to pick a fight, but I'll just ignore it.
His back ached and his head throbbed, but he needed to get up. No need to give Inu-koro any more encouragement. He took a seat next to Kagome.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes, then spoke. "So, are we gonna go, or what? We can't just sit around here all day with the wimpy wolf. We have places to be."
"Uh, like where, Inuyasha? We haven't seen Naraku in weeks, and all the shards are accounted for."
"Kagome has a point," Miroku agreed.
"Keh."
Sick of the conversation, Kagome got up and walked over to her oversized yellow backpack. She dug through it for a few minutes until she finally located what she was looking for: instant ramen.
"You're probably hungry, Kouga-kun. I'll make you some dinner!"
Stunned, Inuyasha watched the girl prepare to boil the water. She never made him any ramen. And she knew that was his favorite food! How dare she give it to that stinkin' wolf.
"That's MY ramen," Inuyasha mumbled quietly to himself.
Kouga stifled a laugh. "What was that Inu-koro? Something about ramen?"
All eyes went to the hanyou.
"Keh!" Inuyasha sharply turned his back to the group. "Bastard," he mumbled.
"Oh no, Inu-koro. I don't think I'm the basta-"
"Kouga-kun, please."
"So you wanna fight, wolf? I'm ready when you are!"
"I can fight any time, dog!"
"Inuyasha! I'll say it! Kouga-kun, you're still hurt!"
Both males, standing and ready to fight, slouched and retreated to their respective sides of the clearing upon Kagome's insistence. Both looked rather embarrassed, she noted with satisfaction.
So much for being the mature one... Kouga sighed.
"Oh look, the ramen's ready!" Kagome continued it a voice that was entirely too perky for what had just transpired.
"You're too kind, Kagome. You really shouldn't have."
"If you don't want the freaking ramen, I'll take it," said Inuyasha as he walked towards Kouga.
"Inuyasha! O-"
"FINE!" He retreated to the far end of the clearing and sat down in a huff.
Damned wolf! First he goes after Kagome, and now my RAMEN!
----------
Nightfall came, and the group settled in for the evening. Inuyasha retired to a tree, keeping a cautious eye on Kouga.
He didn't trust that wolf, especially when it came to Kagome. He had voiced his protest when sleeping arrangements were discussed, but she had refused to listen and insisted Kouga stay with their group for the night.
His sleeping spot was located a more than respectable distance from Kagome's but Inuyasha couldn't rest as long as Kouga was in the vicinity.
"Stupid wolf."

Author's Note: I apologize. This is a rather boring chapter. But, as I stated in the beginning this is just setup. I'm already working on the third chapter, and that's where the interesting bit begins.
