In the Mirror: Chapter twenty four. Maze castle

“I'm telling you we're going in circles!” Miroku yelled for the fiftieth time. I was holding Inuyasha's hand as we walked through the castle trying to find Shippo and Rin. Ever since Miroku made the chilling discovery that we passed the same room twice in the same hallway we started looking at the other rooms and checking to see if there were any other rooms like that. There was. In fact all of the rooms had twins, and some of them had triplets.

“Miroku for the last time we CAN'T be going in circles if we haven't made any fucking turns!” Inuyasha said turning to him looking like he was going to rip his throat out. I squeezed his hand silently telling him to calm down; he listened.

“I agree that we haven't taken any turns, but there has to be something making all these rooms look a like. Maybe it's a spell.” Sesshomaru said looking agitated and uptight as ever. I know he must be worried beyond all reason about Rin. I don't blame him, I'm very worried my self and so is Inuyasha and the others. If we don't get Rin out of here soon she' going to die. Now don't think I'm not worried about Shippo too, because I am, but it's just that Shippo can stand the miasma a little longer then she can.

“You think he's using a spell? But why would he do that? Is he trying to confuse us?” Sango asked no one particular.

“I don't know what he's using but it's not going to help him once I wrap my claws around his neck.” Sesshomaru said with the most venom in his voice I've ever heard. He started walking again. Even Inuyasha was smart enough to know not to say anything.

“We have to figure out what's going on in order to find the kids. So it's no use trying to guess what's happening or arguing about what's going on.” Sango said. We all agreed and stared walking again. About ten minutes later the rooms started to change. Nothing big at first but still noticeable. Little things like the room color would change, the chains on the walls would become more rusted, and the dead bodies would become nothing but bones.

But then bigger things would start to happen, the rooms that were clean would become dirty with blood and guts, in one room it would be night out side the window and in the next one the sun would be shining through the window. In one room we saw someone that was still alive, but when we tried to get to him the room would disappear.

“What the fuck is happening here?” Inuyasha said. Miroku was starting to sweat, really badly. And I don't think it was the gas mask that was doing either. I let go of Inuyasha's hand to drop back next to him and ask what was wrong. Inuyasha gave me a questioning glance but I just waived my hand telling him that I'd tell him later.

“Miroku? Are you alright?” I asked him. He looked down at me but didn't answer me for a few minutes, I think he was debating about telling me the truth or not. But I guess he wanted to talk about it.

“I've never been one to stay in small places more then a minute at a time. It makes me panic like no youkai could ever wish to do.” Small places? That's when I took a good look around us. The hall way was really narrow; I didn't even notice it before. Then it hit me.

Miroku was claustrophobic. I guess I didn't realize the size of the place because I'm not claustrophobic.

“I don't know what I can do to help you, but if you think of anything please don't hesitate to ask me okay?” I said placing one of my hands on his arm. He smiled down at me.

“Thank you Kagome-sama; you truly are a very kind person. But the only thing you could do for me now is concentrate on finding the children and getting us out of this hell hole.” He said looking a head of us; then, he stopped walking. I looked ahead and saw why, and almost threw up at the site.

We had walked in to a room that was a giant circle with two doors leading in different directions. And in the middle of the room was what I think is a giant mirror, and in the mirror were the images of Shippo, Rin and another girl that I've never seen before hanging from chains over a boiling vat of lava. They looked alright so far but they were still unconscious. I wanted to cry, how dare that basterd put them in that kind of danger, and who was that other woman? I don't think I've ever seen Inuyasha or Sesshomaru look so furious before. I'm sure the rest of us had the same look on our faces but I didn't look back at Sango or Miroku to see. I couldn't take my eyes off of that mirror.

“That basterd.” Was the only thing Inuyasha could get out of his mouth. Then out of nowhere a voice boomed from above us.

“Welcome my friends, to maze castle!” It was Naraku. “I'm guessing from the looks on your faces that you don't like what you see in Kana's mirror do you? Well that's just too bad now isn't it?”

“You fucking basterd! Why don't you come out here and fight us?!” Inuyasha yelled.

“Because then that would just be to easy wouldn't it? I like to see my enemies suffer. And I wouldn't be able to do that if I killed them right away now would I? So what we're going to do is play a little game. The two doors to the left and right of you are the start of a maze, and at the end of the maze is your little companions, and I'm sure you recognize the other girl don't you Sesshomaru?” We looked at him but he wouldn't take his eyes off of Rin. “Anyway like I was saying, when I say `go' the chains that hold them up will start to drop then into the vat below one link every minute, so I say you'll have about an hour and a half to get through the maze and find them. So what I suggest you do is split up into two groups to find them. If not and you take the wrong door then I'm afraid that your little friends will burn to death, slowly.”

“Your heartless Naraku, why would you involve women and children in this fight? Why wouldn't you just fight us; are you afraid that you'll lose?” Miroku called out to him. The only answer that we got was a laugh and one word.

“Go.”

“Alright guys lets go now. Sango, Miroku and Kirara go left; Sesshomaru Kagome and I will go right. Go as fast as you can and if you find them send Kirara back to get us. I'm sure she'll be able to find us.” Normally Sesshomaru wouldn't have listened to a word Inuyasha said, but there was no time to waist.

“Good luck.” Was all we said to each other before we split up.

I just hope that we live to say more.
