In the Mirror: Chapter twenty five. In the maze part 1

“I can't wait to get my hands on that fucking basterd.” Inuyasha said as they walked through their part of the maze. They had run into three dead ends already and they weren't even a half hour into the maze. They couldn't even find there way back to the entrance of the maze because Naraku had placed sutras all along the maze covering up their scents and the scents of Shippo, Rin and that other girl that Sesshomaru seemed to know.

 

“Don't vent your anger yet little brother; save it for Naraku.” Sesshomaru said just as Inuyasha looked like he was going to explode.

 

“Don't worry; I'm not letting anything out before I find that son of a bitch.” Kagome stayed quite thinking it was the right thing to do when the brothers were mad. She wanted to ask Sesshomaru a question but she was afraid to say anything to anyone; especially Sesshomaru. She could see his ora and it was dancing with little electrical blots signaling that anyone who came near him would be promised a slow and painful death. They took the next right and came to another dead end.

 

“Fuck!” Inuyasha yelled frustrated. He punched the wall and was thrown backwards by an invisible force field. He hit the other wall and stayed down.

 

“Inuyasha!” Kagome yelled running over to his side. She knelt down next to him to see what was wrong. She lifted his head and saw that he was trying to wake up. Sesshomaru walked up behind them looking as the wall, he tried to touch it but when he came about two inches from it little sparks stated flying from his hand.

 

“Just as I thought.” He said taking his hand away and looking at it. It was burnt.

 

“What was that?” She asked looking up at him. Inuyasha was still trying to open his eyes but he was having trouble.

 

“It's a special barrier that humans used to use to keep youkai from braking into there castles. A monk invented it about five hundred years ago during our father's reign. I wasn't born at the time so I didn't see it first hand, but father told me about it one time when I asked why we were training a youkai how to use it. He said that the monk used to go around to the wealthiest humans and sell it to them for a hefty price. But it worked so they would pay him. No youkai was ever to penetrate the barrier until one night tree hundred years ago when a neko youkai found a way to break it.”

 

“What the hell are you talking about?” Mumbled Inuyasha as he sat up rubbing his head.

 

“Nothing your miniature mind would be able to wrap it's self around.” Sesshomaru started walking away.

 

“Inuyasha, are you alright?” Kagome asked him as she held one of his arms to help him up. He stumbled a little and held his head.

 

“Yeah, I'm fine. But what in the hell was he talking about?” Sesshomaru came back around round the corner he just walked too.

 

“It's another dead end.” He said walking back to them.

 

“Oh I'm fine. Thanks for being so concerned big brother.” Inuyasha said sarcastically. Sesshomaru ignored him.

 

“I guess we go left then.” Kagome said. As they started walking kagome kept looking for a way to ask Sesshomaru to continue his story, but every time she was anywhere near asking him his ora would come back twice a strong. But as always with her, her curiosity get her in the end. “Sesshomaru? What happened after the neko youkai found out how to break the barrier?” she waited for the cold glance she was about to get, but it never came. Surprisingly he answered.

 

“She used her own blood. The neko was a trusted friend to a human lord in the southern lands. The monk had passed his sutras on to his next of kin. The lord was one of the ones that had bought the sutras. One night youkai started to attack the castle. The barrier worked and eventually the youkai started to give up and headed back in to forest. But in the castle the lord was having a hard time breathing, but his friend the neko was outside the castle because no youkai would be able to stand being inside the barrier. She saw the lord on the floor struggling to hold onto his life and she started charging at the barrier praying to the gods that they would let her in to help him. She was covered in wounds, and as the bloodied part of her hand hit the barrier it dissipated and he was able to get in to him.”

 

“How touching.” Inuyasha said sarcastically as they made another left. Kagome hit him on the head.

 

“Be quite, I'm trying to listen to him. Go on Sesshomaru.” She said. Sesshomaru had this odd look of satisfaction on his face.

 

“The story of the neko's successes spread like wild fire through the lands and when my father got word he sent for her. When she told him what happened he figured that the love that she held for him and her determination is what enabled her to break the barrier. He hired humans to help him do experiments on the barrier. After years of work they finally came up with a way to enable us youkai to stay inside the barrier keeping our enemies outside the barrier. But there's a spell you have to work to let the youkai stay inside the barrier. That's why we have to train the youkai to use the spell. It's usually a neko.”

 

Something clicked inside of Kagome's head.

 

“Sesshomaru, the youkai women that Naraku has with Shippo and Rin, is she one of the ones that's been trained to use the spell?”

 

“…Yes, her name is Keiko.
