The fight for survival 3

The struggle to maintain consciousness was nothing compared to the struggle to keep your head above water. Kagome at this point found and clung to a branch as if it were a life jacket and fought for air. She had taken swim lessons; CPR training and even was a lifeguard. Despite all that, she knew that she couldn't stay a live if she stayed in the water.

With that in mind she used whatever strength she had left and pulled herself up the branch, praying to any god listening that the branch wouldn't break. During her struggle, a snake decided to take his opportunity to attack. Right when he bit her hip the snake then was suddenly swept way in the torrent waters.

Her heart stopped for only one second, and she continued to struggle to survive. `Almost there keep going.' Kagome chanted to herself. She reached the edge of the branch and she then started to climb on one of the many roots of the tree.

While reaching shore, her foot sank in some mire and she lost a boot. She then sat down pulled her other boot off and threw it in the water and fell back down. “What! You can't kill me that easily.” She taunted the river as she gasped for air, and trying to stop shaking with fear. What she thought was a loud battle cry was nothing more then a whisper, for her throat was raw from what had happened.

It took her a few moments to realize that she still had her yellow bag, so she went to see if she had a spare pair of boots. While putting them on she looked across the river at what was left of the boat she was on. She suddenly hid for she saw the bandits looking along the river for something or someone.

The bandits seemed to be angry, herding those remaining alive into a small group. There was no sign of Charlie, which meant, Kagome stopped herself from thinking for she knew she would lose it. The survivors were all shaking their heads at the bandits as if they were all asked a question. That's when she knew they were after her. They were set to kill her. She then put herself together and started a lonely voyage through the woods.

Two hours later, Kagome couldn't stop shivering as she continued her voyage through the forest. She thought she prepared herself by exercising everyday, taking nutrition classes. She was physically fit, yet she had hot and cold spells.

The wind whipped the area in all directions showering her with leaves and twigs and flowers. If she was here for a hike she would have thought the area was indeed magical. She had no time to worry of scenery; she needed to put the river as far behind her as possible.

Night began to fall; the already dark interior of the forest grew black. Something crashed in the brush to her left, but she continued on without a thought. `I can't afford to think of dangers here.' She thought to herself.
Just as she thought that she saw lizards running around. Some sort of primate was screaming above her. It was then when the little hairs on the back of her neck rose.

“Good bye old Kagome.” She said to herself realizing that she may never set foot in civilized land again.

As darkness blanketed the forest, she noticed that she still could see around her. `I should be blind by now.' She thought in awe of the thought of having some night vision. She then looked around. On the various trees she could see spiders, frogs and lizards in detail as they went on with their business.

Smiling Kagome continued, now understanding why Charlie said she fell in love here. The smile then turned to a frown when she realized that she was the reason why her dear friend passed.

Just then gunfire went off again. It sounded an ominous warning to her, and she speed up.

While walking, she felt that eyes were on her. Not eyes of human though. She was being hunted. She stopped moving and scanned her area. `What beast lives here?' she thought

Charlie told her that there were varieties of predators in the deep forest. What confused her most was that dogs, wolves, boars and leopards all residing here. You'd think that the leopards would vanquish them all, but Charlie stated that they had territories, and they never would cross each ones path. “It's like a peace treaty among the clans.” Charlie mentioned on one of their conversations.

Which one is after her now? She wondered. As she came to a complete stop she heard a growl from behind her. She turned around and gasped.

Standing before her was a white dog with glowing amber eyes. He was the size of a pony. She instantly backed away from him, but stopped. The dog wasn't looking at her. She looked over her shoulder to the object of interest and gasped. It was a leopard. She was walking directly in its path. The cat lowered its head as if apologizing and marched off.

She looked back at the dog and fell to her knees in shock. The dog regarded her as if he was reading her. Slowly the beast approached her.

Kagome backed away again but not before hearing. “Welcome home Kagome.” It was then Kagome once again lost consciousness.
